Heat transfer characteristics of γ-Al2O3/water and TiO2/water nanofluids were measured in a shell and tube heat exchanger under turbulent flow condition. The effects of Peclet number, volume concentration of suspended nanoparticles, and particle type on the heat characteristics were investigated. Based on the results, adding of naoparticles to the base fluid causes the significant enhancement of heat transfer characteristics. For both nanofluids, two different optimum nanoparticle concentrations exist. Comparison of the heat transfer behavior of two nanofluids indicates that at a certain Peclet number, heat transfer characteristics of TiO2/water nanofluid at its optimum nanoparticle concentration are greater than those of γ-Al2O3/water nanofluid while γ-Al2O3/water nanofluid possesses better heat transfer behavior at higher nanoparticle concentrations.  相似文献

Heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics are investigated here using experimental and analytical techniques for a dimple plate heat exchanger. The analysis uses the log mean temperature difference method (LMTD) in all its calculations. Whilest the shell side flow highly resembles the flow over a rough or wavy plate, the tube side passage in these represents the flow over short hexagonal tube banks with the flowing across the sectional areas between the hexagons having the shape of a benzene ring. Local and global experimental measurements are carried out around the heat exchanger. Furthermore, analytical models for both sides of the heat exchanger were obtained from the literature. Reasonable cross match between experimental and analytical results could be obtained. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Fluidization and heat transfer experiments have been conducted in gas fluidized beds of two different sizes, viz., 305 × 305 mm2 and 305 × 152.5 mm2 and with particles of silica sands (d?p = 167, 488, 504, and 745 μm), glass beads (dp = 427 μm) and millet seeds (dp = 2064 μm) with immersed smooth vertical heated tubes of diameter 12.7, 28.6, and 50.8 mm. Important conclusions are drawn concerning the dependence of heat transfer coefficient on fluidization velocity, bed particle diameter, tube diameter and nature of bed fluidization. The heat transfer data are employed to assess the available literature correlations for heat transfer coefficient and for its maximum value.  相似文献

The flow structure inside the inner tank and inside the mantle of a vertical mantle heat exchanger was investigated using a full-scale tank designed to facilitate flow visualisation. The flow structure and velocities in the inner tank and in the mantle were measured using a Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system. A Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model of the vertical mantle heat exchanger was also developed for a detailed evaluation of the heat flux at the mantle wall and at the tank wall. The flow structure was evaluated for both high and low temperature incoming flows and for both initially mixed and initially stratified inner tank and mantle. The analysis of the heat transfer showed that the flow in the mantle near the inlet is mixed convection flow and that the heat transfer is dependent on the mantle inlet temperature relative to the core tank temperature at the mantle level.  相似文献

In the present work, the heat transfer study focuses on assessment of the impact of bed temperature on the local heat transfer characteristic between a fluidized bed and vertical rifled tubes (38mm-O.D.) in a commercial circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler. Heat transfer behavior in a 1296t/h supercritical CFB furnace has been analyzed for Geldart B particle with Sauter mean diameter of 0.219 and 0.246mm. The heat transfer experiments were conducted for the active heat transfer surface in the form of membrane tube with a longitudinal fin at the tube crest under the normal operating conditions of CFB boiler. A heat transfer analysis of CFB boiler with detailed consideration of the bed-to-wall heat transfer coefficient and the contribution of heat transfer mechanisms inside furnace chamber were investigated using mechanistic heat transfer model based on cluster renewal approach. The predicted values of heat transfer coefficient are compared with empirical correlation for CFB units in large-scale.  相似文献

Heat transfer enhancement of multi-walled carbon natube(MWNT)/water nanofluid in a horizontal shell and tube heat exchanger has been studied experimentally. Carbon nanotubes were synthesized by the use of catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) method over Co–Mo/MgO nanocatalyst. Obtained MWNTs were purified using a three stage method. COOH functional groups were inserted for making the nanotubes hydrophilic and increasing the stability of the nanofluid. The results indicate that heat transfer enhances in the presence of multi-walled nanotubes in comparison with the base fluid.  相似文献

A finite element model to predict temperature distribution in heat exchangers is reported. The model can be effectively used to analyse and design the heat exchangers with complex flow arrangements for which no regular design procedure is available. Illustrations are provided to explain the application of the method for the analysis of shell and tube heat exchangers.  相似文献

In order to enhance heat transfer and mitigate contamination in the boiling processes, a new type of vapor-liquid-solid (3-phase) circulating fluidized bed boiling system has been designed, combining a circulating fluidized bed with boiling heat transfer. Experimental results show an enhancement of the boiling curve. Flow visualization studies concerning flow hydrodynamics within the riser column are also conducted whose results are presented and discussed.  相似文献

A model for the bed-to-wall heat transfer under low temperature condition in a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) was developed based upon a simplified cluster renewal concept. The age of clusters in contact with the wall at different locations along the height of the CFB was estimated as the weighted average age considering their formation and disintegration. One set of experimental data on heat transfer in a 4.5-metre high, 0.15-metre diameter CFB under low temperature condition (67–77°C) was chosen for comparison with prediction of local heat transfer coefficient. The experimental observation and prediction have shown a qualitative agreement.  相似文献

Flow characteristics of a circulating gas–solid fluidized-bed heat exchanger with multiple vertical pipes were studied. The glass beads were circulated inside the vertical pipes of the heat exchanger with fluidizing air. The pressure drop and the circulation rate of solid particles were measured. In addition, one-dimensional velocity distribution of solid particles and the pressure distribution inside the vertical pipe were analysed. The prediction on the pressure drop with the circulation of solid particles was proved to be reasonably accurate by comparing with the measured results. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Fouling is one of the main problems of heat transfer which can be described as the accumulation on the heat exchanger tubes, i.e.; ash deposits on the heat exchanger unit of the boiler. A decrease in heat transfer rate by this deposition causes loss in system efficiency and leads to increasing in operating and maintenance costs. This problem concerns with the coupling among conduction heat transfer mode between solid of different types, conjugate heat transfer at the interface of solid and fluid, and the conduction/convection heat transfer mode in the fluid which can not be solved analytically. In this paper, fouling effect on heat transfer around a cylinder in cross flow has been studied numerically by using conjugate heat transfer approach. Unlike other numerical techniques in existing literatures, an unstructured control volume finite element method (CVFEM) has been developed in this present work. The study deals with laminar flow where the Reynolds number is limited in the range that the flow field over the cylinder is laminar and steady. We concern the fouling shape as an eccentric annulus with constant thermal properties. The local heat transfer coefficient, temperature distribution and mean heat transfer coefficient along the fouling surface are given for concentric and eccentric cases. From the results, we have found that the heat transfer rate of cross-flow heat exchanger depends on the eccentricity and thermal conductivity ratio between the fouling material and fluid. The effect of eccentric is dominant in the region near the front stagnation point due to high temperature and velocity gradients. The mean Nusselt number varies in asymptotic fashion with the thermal conductivity ratio. Fluid Prandtl number has a prominent effect on the distribution of local Nusselt number and the temperature along the fouling surface.  相似文献

Fluidized bed combustion is one of the advantageous technologies for coal and/or incineration firing especially with respect to the environmental protection of emissions, such as NOx/SOx. Bed material movement in such a fluidized bed has a prime importance in the heat transfer process. Thus, quantitative measurement of the bed material movement and the void fraction are indispensable for better understanding of the fluidized bed. In this investigation, neutron radiography is applied to visualize the bed material movement in a simulated fluidized bed heat exchanger installed with vertical tubes. Bubble behavior and void fraction profile are obtained by the image processing technique. Bubble movement is highly restrained by these vertical tubes, so that the bubbles rise up along the tube. The bubble diameter is well correlated by the modified Mori and Wen's correlation taking into account the pitch of the tube arrangement. The bubble rise velocity and void fraction are well correlated by applying the drift‐flux model. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nanofluid is a heat transfer fluid that can improve the performance of heat exchanger systems. Different parameters such as particle size, shape, and volume concentration affect the performance of these systems. The objective of this paper is to study the effect of different nanoparticle shapes (such as cylindrical, bricks, blades, platelets, and spherical) on the performance of a shell and tube heat exchanger operating with nanofluid analytically. Boehmite alumina (γ-AlOOH) nanoparticles of different shapes were dispersed in a mixture of water/ethylene glycol as the nanofluid. The thermodynamic performance of the shell and tube heat exchanger that is used in a waste heat recovery system was analysed in terms of heat transfer rate and entropy generation. Established correlations were used to measure the thermal conductivity, heat transfer coefficient and rate and entropy generation of nanofluid. The results show an increase in both the heat transfer and thermodynamic performance of the system. However, among the five nanoparticle shapes, cylindrical shape exhibited better heat transfer characteristics and heat transfer rate. On the other hand, entropy generation for nanofluids containing cylindrical shaped nanoparticles was higher in comparison with the other nanoparticle shapes. However, the increased percentage of entropy was below 1%. Therefore, this greater entropy generation could be deemed negligible and cylindrical shaped nanoparticles are recommended to be utilized in heat exchanger systems working with nanofluids.  相似文献

In general heat transfer intensity between solid surface and coolant (fluid) depends on three main parameters: heat transfer coefficient, size of heat exchange surface and temperature difference between surface and fluid. Sometimes the last two parameters (surface size and temperature difference) are strictly limited due to the process or technological requirements, and only increase of heat transfer coefficient is allowed. Simplest way offering sufficient increase in heat transfer rate (heat transfer coefficient as well) is to go from the laminar fluid flow regime to the turbulent one by increasing flow velocity. In many cases it helps despite such disadvantages like more complicated fluid supply system, rise of fluid flow mass rate and growth of energy usage for pumping. But in some cases, for example, in space application, in nuclear engineering, etc. there is not allowed to use high flow velocity of coolant – gas (due to vibration danger) or to apply high mass rate of coolant – liquid (due to limitation concerning weight or mass). One of the possible solutions of that problem could be the usage of two-phase flow as a coolant. An idea to use such two-phase coolant for heat removal from the solid surface is not new. Boiling liquid (water especially), gas flow with liquid droplets and other two-phase systems are widely used for heat and mass transfer purposes in various industries like food, chemical, oil, etc. An application of such two-phase coolants has lot advantages; high value of heat transfer coefficient is one of the most important. Unfortunately nothing is ideal on the Earth. Restrictions on vibration, on coolant weight (or mass rate); necessity to generate two-phase flow separately from the heat removal place; requirements on very low coolant velocities and other constraints do not allow using such type of two-phase coolant for purposes which were mentioned above (space application especially). As a possible way out can be usage of the statically stable foam flow produced from gas (air) and surfactant solutions in liquid (water). Our previous investigations [J. Gylys, Hydrodynamics and Heat Transfer under the Cellular Foam Systems, Technologija, Kaunas, 1998] showed the solid advantages of that type of two-phase coolant, including high values of heat transfer coefficient (up to 1000 W/m2 K and more), low flow velocities (less than 1.0 m/s), small coolant density (less than 4 kg/m3), possibility to generate foam flow apart from the heat removal place, etc. This article is devoted to the experimental investigation of the staggered tube bundle heat transfer to the vertical upward and downward statically stable foam flow. The investigations were provided within the laminar regime of foam flow. The dependency of the tube bundle heat transfer on the foam flow velocity, flow direction and volumetric void fraction were analyzed. In addition to this, the influence of tube position in the bundle was investigated also. Investigation shows that the regularities of the tube bundle heat transfer to the vertical foam flow differ from the one-phase (gas or liquid) flow heat transfer peculiarities. It was showed that the heat transfer intensity of the staggered tube bundle to the foam flow is much higher (from 25 to 100 times) than that for the one-phase airflow under the same conditions (flow velocity). The results of the investigations were generalized using criterion equations, which can be applied for the calculation and design of the statically stable foam heat exchangers with the staggered tube bundles.  相似文献

This experiment was carried out using delta winglet arrays of vortex generators (VG) with inline arrangement in a tube heat exchanger to study enhanced heat transfer and flow behaviour. The experiment was conducted for the turbulent flow (Re = 6000 to 27000). In this experiment, different parameters, pitch ratios (PR = 1.6, 2.4, and 4.8), lengths (L = 10, 15, and 20 mm), and attack angles (B = 0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, and 45°) were studied and then their effect on thermal performance was observed. Results indicate that the PR affected f and Nu significantly. For PR = 1.6, VGs showed the highest f and Nu for all of the cases. Vortex generators with L10 B45 PR4.8 achieved the best TPE with 1.23 at Re = 6000. Attack angle B indicated a significant impact on thermal performance and 45 degree showed the TPE of 1.23 at lower Re. Oil film flow and smoke flow visualization were employed to identify the flow vortices and understand flow mechanism. The oil film flow and smoke flow visualization clearly traced longitudinal vortex, and induced vortex, which induced impingement flow and recirculation zone that lead to significant heat transfer enhancement.  相似文献

The paper presents numerical investigations of a three fluid heat exchanger (TFHE), which is an improvement on the double pipe heat exchanger, where a helical tube is inserted in the annular space between two straight pipes. The helical tube side fluid, that is, hot water continuously transfers heat to the outer annulus side fluid and innermost tube side fluid. The heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of the TFHE are assessed for different flow rates and inlet temperatures. With an increment in the volumetric flow rate of the helical tube side fluid and outer annulus side fluid, the overall heat transfer coefficient increases, and the effectiveness decreases for heat transfer from the helical tube side fluid to outer annulus side fluid in both parallel flow and counter flow configurations. It is also observed that with increment in the helical tube side fluid inlet temperature, the overall heat transfer coefficient and effectiveness increases for heat transfer from the helical tube side fluid to outer annulus side fluid in both flow configurations. The parameter, JF factor, has been proposed to evaluate the thermohydraulic behavior of the TFHE, where it is obtained that the behavior of the TFHE is better at a lower helical tube side fluid velocity and higher outer annulus side fluid velocity.  相似文献

Vaporization of gas oil droplets has significant effects on the gas-solid flow hydrodynamic and heat transfer characteristic. A three dimensional CFD model of the riser section of a CFB have been developed considering three phase flow hydrodynamic, heat transfer and evaporation of the feed droplets. Several experiments were performed in order to obtain the data needed to evaluate the model using a pilot scale CFB unit. The Eulerian approach was used to model both gas and catalyst particle phases comprising of continuity, momentum, heat transfer and species equations as well as an equation for solid phase granular temperature. The flow field and evaporating liquid droplet characteristics were modeled using the Lagrangian approach. The catalyst particle velocity and volume fraction were measured using a fiber optic probe. The comparison between model predictions of catalyst particle velocity and volume fraction with the experimental data indicated that they were in good agreements and the Syamlal-O'Brien was the most accurate drag equation. The CFD model was capable of predicting the main characteristic of the complex gas-solids flow hydrodynamic and heat transfer, including the cluster formation of the catalyst particles near the reactor wall. In addition, the simulation results showed droplet vaporization caused reduction of catalyst particle residence time. Moreover, the higher ratios of the feed to catalyst flow rates led to the lower values of the catalyst temperature profile minimum.  相似文献
