The next generation network (NGN) and the speed-up of access lines will sharply increase the demand for one-way applications such as internet protocol television (IP TV) and video on demand (VOD). One-way applications make the downlink bandwidth much larger than the uplink bandwidth. Asymmetric traffic is best supported by using different numbers of wavelengths in the uplink and downlink, which presumes the use of a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network. Unfortunately, the existing 2- or 4-fiber ring network architecture is symmetric, and so it cannot efficiently accommodate asymmetric paths. This paper proposes a novel 1-fiber WDM protection ring that offers a cost-effective optical network architecture for asymmetric traffic as well as symmetric traffic. It also proposes a new 1:1 protection switching scheme and automatic protection switching (APS) control protocol that can reduce capital expenditures for optical-electro-optical termination cards and provide nonrevertive protection switching with extra traffic and APS with end-to-end supervision including optical switching fabrics. Moreover, this paper shows that the proposed wavelength switching scheme offers much better network survivability after multiple wavelength failures than the existing bidirectional switching scheme can offer. 相似文献

With the ongoing popularity of the IEEE 802.11 standard, many analytical studies for the distributed coordination function (DCF) have been reported but due to lack of a comprehensive model, the research has been going on. In this paper, three probabilistic analytical access delay models have been proposed for the IEEE 802.11 DCF mechanism in saturated traffic and noisy industrial applications. The first and second one provide an accurate packet delay model by solving non-linear equations at low and high Signal to Noise Ratios (SNRs) respectively. The third one on the other hand offers an approximate and simple closed-form model which does not need solving any non-linear equation and therefore can easily be utilized in the distributed adaptive network quality of service provisioning algorithms for industrial nodes which usually have limited processing capabilities. Delay-reliability, delay-packet payload and delay-data rate tradeoffs has also been studied. Simulation results match the theoretical derivations in most SNRs, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed models. 相似文献

A novel inband forward-error correction (FEC) method, devised for the electronic-mitigation of physical optical transmission impairments, is implemented and experimentally demonstrated. The proposed inband-FEC scheme, Free-Of-Charge Uniform Shield (FOCUS), is an inherently low-cost approach, applicable to standard synchronous digital hierarchy/synchronous optical network rates, allowing optically transparent signal propagation over longer distances. The performance/efficiency of the FOCUS method is evaluated in terms of tolerance against optical signal-to-noise ratio degradation and chromatic-dispersion, associated with the signal transmission over standard single-mode fiber. Bit-error-rate measurements and coding gain calculations at the standard STM-64 rate (9.953 Gb/s) reveal significant coding-gain improvement for all cases examined 相似文献

Network fragmentation occurs when the accessibility of a network-based resource to an observer is a function of how the observer is connected to the network. In the context of the Internet, network fragmentation is well known and occurs in many situations, including an increasing preponderance of network address translation, firewalls, and virtual private networks. Recently, however, new threats to Internet consistency have received media attention. Alternative namespaces have emerged as the result of formal objections to the process by which Internet names and addresses are provisioned. In addition, various governments and service providers around the world have deployed network technology that (accidentally or intentionally) restricts access to certain Internet content. Combined with the aforementioned sources of fragmentation, these new concerns provide ample motivation for a network that allows users the ability to specify not only the network location of Internet resources they want to view but also the perspectives from which they want to view them. Our vision of a perspective access network (PAN) is a peer-to-peer overlay network that incorporates routing and directory services that allow network perspective-sharing and nonhierarchical organization of the Internet. In this paper, we present the design, implementation, and evaluation of a directory service for such networks. In this paper we present a new simple cooperative relaying scheme. The proposed scheme is compared with simple cooperative schemes with virtual orthogonal space time block coding (OSTBC) and quasi orthogonal space time block coding (QOSTBC). Every of these three schemes includes one base station with two antennas, two relay stations each with a single antenna and one mobile station with a single antenna. The aim of the proposed scheme is to preserve, as much as it is possible bit error rate (BER) performance of the cooperative scheme with virtual OSTBC, but with increased code rate. It is shown that the presented scheme obviously outperforms simple cooperative scheme with virtual QOSTBC, while in comparison with simple cooperative scheme with virtual OSTBC has very similar BER performance and increased code rate. 相似文献
