In this work, a high speed ultrasonic multitransducer pulse-echo system using a four transducer method was used for the dynamic characterization of gas-liquid two-phase separated flow regimes. The ultrasonic system consists of an ultrasonic pulse signal generator, multiplexer, 10 MHz (0.64 cm) ultrasonic transducers, and a data acquisition system. Four transducers are mounted on a horizontal 2.1 cm inner diameter circular pipe. The system uses a pulse-echo method sampled every 0.5 ms for a 1 s duration. A peak detection algorithm (the C-scan mode) is developed to extract the location of the gas-liquid interface after signal processing. Using the measured instantaneous location of the gas/liquid interface, two-phase flow interfacial parameters in separated flow regimes are determined such as liquid level and void fraction for stratified wavy and annular flow. The shape of the gas-liquid interface and, hence, the instantaneous and cross-sectional averaged void fraction is also determined. The results show that the high speed ultrasonic pulse-echo system provides accurate results for the determination of the liquid level within +/-1.5%, and the time averaged liquid level measurements performed in the present work agree within +/-10% with the theoretical models. The results also show that the time averaged void fraction measurements for a stratified smooth flow, stratified wavy flow, and annular flow qualitatively agree with the theoretical predictions.  相似文献

A new version of a system to monitor the average void fraction, φ, the quality, x, and the mass flow rate, G, of two-phase liquefied natural gas (LNG) flows is offered. It is based on a combination of a gamma-densitometer with a Cs-137 radioactive source and a narrowing device. The metrological characteristics of this system are estimated and its practical realization is substantiated. A model of ID =100 mm has been manufactured and tested at the State Primary Special Standard of the Unit of Mass Flow Rate of Gas-Liquid Mixtures GET 195-2011 (Kazan, Russia) with simulated two-phase flows “Exxsol – compressed air”. The offered system can be used for pipelines up to ID =500 mm by applying a gamma source with the necessary activity. The experiments on GET 195–2011 have shown that the void fraction error and the relative mass flow rate error for Exxsol do not exceed 5% and 2%, respectively, at φ<50%. It appears to be suitable for practical application. If one adds a second gamma-source (for example, Am-241) to the proposed system, it can serve as a separationless three-phase flow-meter for mixtures “oil-gas-formation water”.  相似文献

Based on Biot–Savart law and single-phase flow Kármán vortex characteristics, flow field has been analyzed when gas–liquid flow past a fixed bluff body with high void fraction. Vortex signal characteristics have been studied for stratified two-phase flow on atmospheric conditions in a horizontal pipe. To discuss the relation between void fraction and vortex signal amplitude spectrum, this paper sets up the vortex-induced pressure field model for gas–liquid two-phase flow and gives the relationship between void fraction and relative amplitude spectrum of two-phase flow to single-phase flow. An algorithm is proposed for predicting the two-phase flow parameters. Experiments were performed using air–water as working fluid along with a test tube diameter of 50 mm, at gas volume flow rate of 20–68 m3/h, and void fraction of 0.9–1. The results indicate that calculations by the vortex-induced pressure field model on the amplitude spectrum of vortex signal are in good agreement with the experimental data, and relative errors of the algorithm predictions on gas volume flow rate and liquid volume flow rate are 0.08 and 0.56, respectively.  相似文献

Capacitance sensor for void fraction measurement in water/steam flows   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A capacitance sensor operating at RF range for void fraction measurements was developed. Two electrodes of the capacitor are mounted on the outer side of pipe walls. The variations in the percentage of phases in two-phase flow cause changes of the equivalent permittivity of the dielectric between the electrodes. The capacitor is connected in a resonant circuit of an oscillator tuned to high frequency of 80 MHz. The changes of frequency generated by the oscillator are the measure of the void fraction in the two-phase flow. An eight-channel system with capacitance sensors of this type was used for determination of the phase conversion along a steam injector.  相似文献

Inline fluid separation is a concept, which is used in the oil and gas industry. Inline fluid separators typically have a static design and hence changing inlet conditions lead to less efficient phase separation. For introducing flow control into such a device, additional information is needed about the relationship of upstream and downstream conditions. This paper introduces a study on this relationship for gas/liquid two-phase flow. The downstream gas core development was analyzed for horizontal device installation in dependence of the inlet gas and liquid flow rates. A wire-mesh sensor was used for determining two-phase flow parameters upstream and a high-speed video camera to obtain core parameters downstream the swirling device. For higher accuracy of the calculated void fraction, a novel method for wire-mesh sensor data analysis has been implemented. Experimental results have shown that void fraction data of the wire-mesh sensor can be used to predict the downstream behavior for a majority of the investigated cases. Additionally, the upstream flow pattern has an impact on the stability of the gas core downstream which was determined by means of experimental data analysis.  相似文献

The performance of a turbine meter in two-phase (water/air) flow in a vertical pipe is assessed. If the single phase (water) meter factor is used in two-phase flow, the total (water and air) flowrate is found to be underpredicted. The error can be as much as 12.5% at a void fraction of 25%. A technique for using measurements of the fluctuations in the turbine meter rotor velocity to determine void fraction (= air flowrate/total flowrate) is described. A single meter is then used to measure, using this technique, both the water flowrate to an accuracy of ± 2% and void fraction to an accuracy of ±0.02.  相似文献

In order to investigate the characteristics of an electromagnetic flowmeter in two-phase flow, an alternating-current electromagnetic flowmeter was designed and manufactured. The signals and noise from the flowmeter under various flow conditions were obtained, and analyzed in comparison with the flow patterns observed with a high-speed charge-coupled device camera.

An experiment with void simulators, in which a rod-shaped non-conducting material was used, was carried out to investigate the effect of bubble position and void fraction on the flowmeter. Two-phase flow experiments, encompassing bubbly to slug flow regimes, were conducted with a water–air mixture.

The simple relation ΔUTPUSP/(1−), relating the flowmeter signal between single-phase flow and two-phase flow, was verified with measurements of the potential difference and the void fraction for a bubbly flow regime. Due to the lack of homogeneity in a real two-phase flow, the discrepancy between the relation and the present measurement increased slightly with increasing void fraction and superficial liquid velocity jf.

Whereas there is no difference in the shape of the raw signal between single-phase flow and bubbly flow, the signal amplitude for bubbly flow is higher than that for single-phase flow at the same water flow rate, since the passage area of the water flow is reduced. In the case of slug flow, the phase and the amplitude of the flowmeter output show dramatically the flow characteristics around each slug bubble and the position of the slug bubble itself. Therefore, the electromagnetic flowmeter shows a good possibility of being useful for identifying the flow regimes.  相似文献

An analytical model is developed to estimate the two-phase damping ratio for upward cross-flow through horizontal tube bundles. The present model is formulated based on Feenstra’s model (2000) for void fraction and various models (homogeneous, Levy, Martinelli-Nelson and Marchaterre) for two-phase friction multiplier. The analytical results of drag coefficient on a cylinder and two-phase Euler number are compared with the experimental results by Sim-Mureithi (2013). The correlation factor between frictional pressure drop and the hydraulic drag coefficient is evaluated by considering the experimental results. The two-phase damping ratios given by the analytical model are compared with existing experimental results. The model based on Marchaterre’s model is suitable for air-water mixture, whereas the Martinelli-Nelson’s model is suitable for steam-water and Freon mixtures. The two-phase damping ratio is independent of pitch mass flux for air-water mixture, but is more or less influenced by the mass flux for steam-water/Freon (134) mixtures. The two-phase damping ratios given by the present model agree well with experimental results for a wide range of pitch mass ratio, quality, and p/d ratios.  相似文献

Gas/liquid two-phase flow regime identification by ultrasonic tomography   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A gas/liquid two-phase flow is considered as a strongly inhomogeneous medium with respect to high contrast in acoustic impedance distribution. Based upon a binary logic operation and a method of “time-of-propagation along straight path”, an ultrasonic facility for tomographic imaging of gas/liquid two-phase flow was developed. In this paper the principle and construction of this facility are briefly introduced. Emphasis is placed on the evaluation of its performance in flow regime identification and cross-sectional void fraction measurement. Several flow pattern models were used and the corresponding monitoring results given. Finally, limitations and possible future improvements of the system are discussed.  相似文献

Flow regime identification based on local parameters of axial upward two-phase flow in vertical tube bundles, at high-temperature and high-pressure, was performed using optical probes. A staggered arrangement of the tube bundles was simulated inside a non-circular test channel, the tube size and pitch are same as that in a real steam generator of a PWR under design. Optical probes were utilized to acquire the void fraction, interface frequency, and fluctuation characteristics of the local void fraction at two typical locations (centroid of the three tubes, named op-1, and centre of the minimum gap between two tubes, named op-2). The system pressure ranged from 5 to 9 MPa, mass flux from 100 to 350 kg m−2 s−1, thermodynamic steam quality from 0 to 1, and inlet fluid temperature from 263.9 to 303.3 °C, depending on the saturation pressure. This study investigated local parameters and flow pattern characteristics of high-pressure steam-water two-phase flow in vertical tube bundles using optical probes, with the measurement error of less than 2%. Results showed that local void fraction at op-1 was much larger than that at op-2, and the local void fraction difference between op-1 and op-2 increased first and then gradually decreased, which was primarily affected by the transition in flow regimes. The flow pattern characteristics of steam-water two-phase flow were described based on three aspects, namely, variation in interface frequency with local void fraction, fluctuation characteristics of local void fraction, and statistical analysis of local void fraction deviating from the average. Additionally, the flow regime identification criteria, applicable to the steam-water two-phase flow in vertical tube bundles, were proposed based on local parameters.  相似文献

An image enhancement technique for a visualization of gas–liquid metal two-phase interfaces is developed for a real time neutron radiography (RTNR) technique, where the dynamic motion of bubbles inside liquid metal cannot be observed optically. The proposed image enhancement technique consisted of noise reduction, pipe–fluid interface determination, and image smoothing procedures. The results show that the RTNR technique is able to visualize the dynamics of gas–liquid metal interfaces, and also is able to determine more accurate two-phase flow parameters such as void fraction.  相似文献

A real-time neutron radiography (RTNR) system and a high speed X-ray computed tomography (X-CT) system are compared for measurement of two-phase flow. Each system is used to determine the flow regime, and the void fraction distribution in a vertical annulus flow channel with particular attention on the temporal resolution of the systems and the time behaviour of the two-phase flow. The annulus flow channel is operated as a bubble column and measurements obtained for gas flow rates from 0.0 to 30.0 l/min. Both the RTNR and the X-CT systems show that the two-dimensional void fraction distribution can be obtained. The X-CT system is shown to have a superior temporal resolution capable of resolving the void fraction distribution in an (r,θ) plane in 4.0 ms. The RTNR system is shown to obtain void fraction distribution in a (r,z) plane in 33.0 ms. Void fraction distribution for bubbly flow and slug flow is determined.  相似文献

Multiphase flow rate metering is a challenging problem, specially for flow patterns other than wet-gas. This paper brings forward a new comparative analysis of three differential pressure calibration models suited for liquid dominated two-phase flows, in a total of seven model configurations. First, the models are compared theoretically and classified in terms of the type of input data required. Then, experimental data of over 300 horizontal air–water experiments, for 1” and 2” pipe diameters, supports quantitative analyses of the prediction accuracies and sensitivity of the superficial velocities of gas and liquid to measurement errors in the model input variables. Finally, a method for assessing the decoupled measurement errors for the void fraction and gas velocity is shown, as these variables are typically subject to higher uncertainties. It results that, though the void fraction is shown to be systematically under evaluated in more than 10%, the total mass flow rate is estimated through the Paz et al. (2010) model with an overall root mean squared deviation (RMSD) of 5.75% for the 2” data. Also, the use of gas velocity measurements, even if subject to considerable errors, decreased the RMSD for the gas superficial velocity by more than half for the 1” data.  相似文献

A technique for void fraction and gas velocity measurements in two-phase gas-liquid bubbly flow is described. The double-point resistivity probe, appropriate signal-conditioning units and a personal computer have been integrated to form a data acquisition and analysis package enabling the determination of local flow properties. The system has been tested in an adiabatic air-water vertical up-flow situation and typical results are presented here.  相似文献

A method for air–water two-phase flow measurement is proposed using a Venturi meter combined with an Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT) sensor. Firstly, the real-time flow pattern of the two-phase flow is identified using the ERT sensor. Secondly, the void fraction of the two-phase flow is calculated from the conductance values through a void fraction measurement model, developed using the LS-SVM regression method. Thirdly, the mass quality is determined from the void fraction through void fraction-quality correlation. And finally, the mass flowrate of the two-phase flow is calculated from the mass quality and the differential pressure across the Venturi meter. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective for the measurement of the mass flowrate of air–water flow. The proposed method introduces the flow pattern information in the measurement process, which minimizes the influence of flow pattern on the conventional differential pressure based methods. In addition, the mass quality is calculated from the void fraction, so the difficulty to obtain the mass quality in conventional methods is also overcome. Meanwhile, the new method is capable for providing concurrent measurements of multiple parameters of the two-phase flow including void fraction, mass quality and mass flowrate as well as an indication of the flow pattern.  相似文献

The miniaturisation context leads to the rise of micro-machining processes. Micro-milling is one of the most flexible and fast of them. Although it is based on the same principles as macro-cutting, it is not a simple scaling-down of it. This down-sizing involves new phenomena in the chip formation, such as the minimum chip thickness below which no chip is formed. This paper presents a review of the current state of the art in this field from an experimental and a numerical point of view. A 2D finite element model is then developed to study the influence of the depth of cut on the chip formation. After the model validation in macro-cutting, it highlights the phenomena reported in literature and allows to perform a minimum chip thickness estimation.  相似文献

In remote regions with availability of wind energy, a RDG (renewable distributed generation) system is an advantageous alternative to increase the provision of electrical supply. Usually, these systems are structured on the basis of a connection to an existing weak grid. When the grid is out of service, the system may operate in islanding mode, if the RDG configuration allows it, continuing the provision of energy with standard voltage and frequency values. Facing the latter situation, a wind-diesel/gas generation system is proposed, with a conversion and control strategies based on a variable speed wind turbine employing a DFIG (doubly fed induction generator), a SC (ultracapacitor) storage system and a SG (synchronous generator) driven by a diesel/gas engine.  相似文献

Heat transfer coefficients were measured and new correlations were developed for two-phase heat transfer in a horizontal pipe for different flow patterns. Flow patterns were observed in a transparent circular pipe (2.54 cm I. D. and L/D=96) using an air/water mixture. Visual identification of the flow patterns was supplemented with photographic data, and the results were plotted on the How regime map proposed by Taitel and Dukler and agreed quite well with each other. A two-phase heat transfer experimental setup was built for this study and a total of 150 two-phase heat transfer data with different flow patterns were obtained under a uniform wail heat 11 ux boundary condition. For these data, the superficial Reynolds number ranged from 640 to 35,500 for the liquid and from 540 to 21,200 for the gas. Our previously developed robust two-phase heat transfer correlation for a vertical pipe with modified constants predicted the horizontal pipe air-water heat transfer experimental data with good accuracy. Overall the proposed correlations predicted the data with a mean deviation of 1.0% and an rms deviation of 12%.  相似文献

The use of Coriolis mass flow metering for two-phase (gas/liquid) flow is an emerging theme of both academic research and industrial application. The key issues are maintaining flow-tube operation, and modelling and correcting for the errors induced in the mass flow and density measurements. Experimentally-derived data is used to illustrate that these errors vary most notably with gas void fraction (GVF) and liquid flow rate, but other factors such as flow-tube geometry and orientation, and fluid properties such as viscosity are also influential. While undoubtedly a universal two-phase flow correction model is the ultimate research goal, there is currently no obvious candidate to explain the range of behaviours observed. This paper describes and demonstrates an empirical methodology that has proven effective in developing good correction models for a given choice of Coriolis flow-tube and flow mixture.

A growing proportion of the world’s oil reserves may be described as “heavy”, implying high density and high viscosity. Of the various metering challenges heavy oil poses, one of the most significant is its ready entrainment of gas, and the difficulties entailed in separating gas from the oil. Accurate two-phase measurement of heavy oil is therefore an especially desirable technical goal.

Trials were carried out at the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL), Scotland on a 75 mm flowmeter using a high viscosity oil. Flowrates from 1 kg/s to 10 kg/s were examined, with gas void fraction (GVF) up to 80%. The resulting models were tested online in a commercial Coriolis mass flow meter and demonstrated good performance for both steady and slugging two-phase flows, with the corrected measurements typically within 1%–5% of the nominal mass flow and density.

Field trials in Venezuela have confirmed the performance of this two-phase solution.

While research continues into the development of a generic two-phase correction, this case study demonstrates that the current state of the art can provide, for economically important fluids, tailored models with good two-phase flow performance.  相似文献
