Differences and similarities between LiF-based LiF:Mg,Ti and LiF:Mg,Cu,P are discussed, with respect to their dosimetric properties--sensitivity, non-linearity of dose response and heavy charged particle efficiency, as related to the concentration and the individual role of the Mg, Ti, Cu and P dopants. To study further the role of these dopants, the properties of some new, 'hybrid' phosphors: LiF:Mg,Cu,Ti and LiF:Mg,P, specially developed for this purpose, are also discussed. In the glow curve of LiF:Mg,Cu,P with a low concentration of Mg a new peak was found, which appears to be an analogue of peak 4 in LiF:Mg,Ti, Magnesium apparently controls most of the dosimetric properties of LiF-based phosphors. For instance, charged-particle efficiency appears to be anti-correlated with the concentration of Mg, being much less dependent on the content of other dopants. On the other hand, some properties of LiF-based systems seem to be correlated with changes in the emission spectra. It is suggested that Ti hampers the acceptance of any increased amount of Mg into more traps in LiF:MgTi. The absence of Ti, not the presence of P or Cu, is therefore a key to the high sensitivity of LiF:MgCuP.  相似文献

In this introductory paper, we endeavour to bridge the gaps that currently exist between the three main subdivisions of catalysis: enzymatic, homogeneous and heterogeneous. Hitherto, there has been a tendency for each of these three divisions to grow separately using their own concepts, phrases and techniques. However, there is much that unites them, not least the notion of the catalytically active site and, in particular, its often unusual (constrained) state of electronic or atomic environmental disposition. We identify many points of similarity between, for example, the mode of action of, metalloenzymes on the one hand and the recent generation of transition metal ions embedded within nanoporous (usually siliceous) solids on the other. Useful unifying principles emerge from considerations of free-energy/reaction-coordinate plots.We present a number of tabulations and comparisons designed to facilitate the understanding of the mode of operation of existing, and the performance of new, catalysts. In doing so, we have drawn on our own work as well as that of others, including contributions that are to be found in this volume, with the intention of covering the great variety of catalytic phenomena.  相似文献

Solid-solid and solid-fluid impacts and bouncing are the concern here. A theoretical study is presented on fluid-body interaction in which the motion of the body and the fluid influence each other nonlinearly. There could also be many bodies involved. The clashing refers to solid-solid impacts arising from fluid-body interaction in a channel, while the skimming refers to another area where a thin body impacts obliquely upon a fluid surface. Bouncing usually then follows in both areas. The main new contribution concerns the influences of thickness and camber which lead to a different and more general form of clashing and hence bouncing.  相似文献

Sustainability is generally associated with a definition by the World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987: "... development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs ..." However, there is no mathematical theory embodying these concepts, although one would be immensely valuable in humanity's efforts to manage the environment. The concept of sustainability applies to integrated systems comprising humans and the rest of nature; the structures and operation of the human component (society, economy, law, etc.) must be such that they reinforce the persistence of the structures and operation of the natural component (ecosystem trophic linkages, biodiversity, biogeochemical cycles, etc.). One of the challenges of sustainability research lies in linking measures of ecosystem functioning to the structure and operation of the associated social system. We review the nature of this complex system including its ecological, social, economic, and technological aspects, and propose an approach to assessing sustainability based on Information Theory that bridges the natural and human systems. These principles are then illustrated using a model system with an ecological food web linked to a rudimentary social system. This work is part of the efforts of a larger multidisciplinary group at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Risk Management Research Laboratory.  相似文献

Introducing metal components into gel matrices provides an effective strategy to develop soft materials with advantageous properties such as: optical activity, conductivity, magnetic response activity, self‐healing activity, catalytic activity, etc. In this context, a thorough overview of application‐oriented metallogels is provided. Considering that many well‐established metallogels start from serendipitous discoveries, insights into the structure–gelation relationship will offer a profound impact on the development of metallogels. Initially, design strategies for discovering new metallogels are discussed, then the advanced applications of metallogels are summarized. Graphene, a two-dimensional, single-layer sheet of sp(2) hybridized carbon atoms, has attracted tremendous attention and research interest, owing to its exceptional physical properties, such as high electronic conductivity, good thermal stability, and excellent mechanical strength. Other forms of graphene-related materials, including graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide, and exfoliated graphite, have been reliably produced in large scale. The promising properties together with the ease of processibility and functionalization make graphene-based materials ideal candidates for incorporation into a variety of functional materials. Importantly, graphene and its derivatives have been explored in a wide range of applications, such as electronic and photonic devices, clean energy, and sensors. In this review, after a general introduction to graphene and its derivatives, the synthesis, characterization, properties, and applications of graphene-based materials are discussed.  相似文献
