In this paper Poly(methylmethacrylate)/Polypyrrole-Graphene Oxide (PMMA/PPy-GO) nanocomposites were prepared using in-situ chemical polymerization method and its structure and properties were studied. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis confirmed that PPy nanopraticles covered the GO nanosheets surface and PMMA/PPy-GO nanocomposite were prepared successfully. The mechanical, electrical and thermal stability of the PMMA nanocomposites were also investigated using Tensile, Impact, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and four-point probe methods. Correlation between direct morphological observation and final properties demonstrated that network structure formed by PPy-GOs in PMMA matrix. Tensile analysis showed that the addition of 0.4 wt % PPy-GO hybrids lead to 24.4 % enhancement in the Young’s modulus of PMMA compared to 5.0 % improvement that achieved at the same loading level of GO. Electrical conductivity measurement showed that dispersion of PPy-GO in PMMA matrix increased AC conductivity in the range of 8 orders of magnitude compared to PMMA. TGA analysis showed that the thermal stability of the PMMA nanocomposites improved over 20 ?C.  相似文献

This study concentrates on the effect of organophilic montmorillonite (OMMT) nanolayers on conductivity, structure, morphology, and mechanical properties of the polypropylene/polyaniline (PP/PANI) composites. The composite was prepared by in situ polymerization of aniline at different composition ratios in the presence of PP powder. The structure and conductivity of ternary PP/PANI/OMMT nanocomposites were compared with those of PP/PANI composites. DC electrical conductivity measurements indicated that electrical conductivity decreased in the presence of OMMT layers. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the surface of ternary nanocomposites have more rough regions. The interaction between PANI and OMMT was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The distribution of OMMT layers in the polymer matrix, as an effective parameter on the properties of nanocomposite, was investigated and confirmed using X‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed an exfoliated array for OMMT layers in the nanocomposite structure. The shear storage modulus for PP/PANI composites was lower than that for pure PP; however, it was increased for PP/PANI/OMMT nanocomposites. The data from the tensile and izod impact strength showed that the Young's modulus and izod impact strength were increased slightly by the addition of OMMT, whereas the elongation at break was decreased. Polypropylene (PP)/polyolefin elastomer (POE) blends and MgO/PP/POE nanocomposites were fabricated by melt blending. The morphology, mechanical, and electrical properties of the nanocomposites were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the surface‐modified MgO nanoparticles were well dispersed in the polymer matrix at low loadings of less than 3 phr. X‐ray diffraction demonstrated that the crystalline phases of PP in the composites were changed and that the β phase significantly increased. An examination of the electrical properties revealed that the direct‐current (dc) electric breakdown strength and space‐charge suppression effect were remarkably improved by the introduction of the surface‐modified MgO nanoparticles. In addition, obvious enhancements in the tensile modulus and strength were obtained as a result of the synergistic toughening of the POE and MgO nanoparticles. Thus, MgO/PP/POE nanocomposites with enhanced mechanical and electrical properties have great potential to be used as recyclable insulation materials for high‐voltage dc cables with large transmission capacities and high operating temperatures. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of different surfactants on the properties of multiwalled carbon nanotubes/polypropylene (MWCNT/PP) nanocomposites prepared by a melt mixing method have been investigated. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (NaDDBS) were used as a means of noncovalent functionalization of MWCNTs to help them to be dispersed uniformly into the PP matrix. The effects of these surfactant‐treated MWCNTs on morphological, rheological, thermal, crystalline, mechanical, and electrical properties of MWCNT/PP composites were studied using field emission scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, rheometry, tensile, and electrical conductivity tests. It was found that the surfactant‐treatment and micromixing resulted in a great improvement in the state of dispersion of MWCNTs in the polymer matrix, leading to a significant enhancement of Young's modulus and tensile strength of the composites. For example, with the addition of only 2 wt % of SDS‐treated and NaDDBS‐treated MWCNTs, the Young's modulus of PP increased by 61.1 and 86.1%, respectively. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polypropylene (PP)/silica nanocomposites were prepared by the sol–gel reaction of silicon alkoxide that was impregnated in the confined amorphous nanospace of PP with the aid of supercritical carbon dioxide. This novel technique enabled us to prepare nanocomposites having a variety of silica morphology without altering the higher-order structures of PP, being ideal to study relationships between the silica morphology and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. The synthesized silica particles were highly dispersed in PP with dimensions comparable to the amorphous thickness (<10 nm), while their mass fractal dimension acquired by small-angle X-ray scattering was dependent on the sol–gel conditions. We found that the Young's modulus as well as the storage modulus in melt viscoelastic measurements was negatively correlated with the mass fractal dimension of silica nanoparticles: A lower mass fractal dimension resulted in not only higher reinforcement but also percolation network formation at a lower silica loading.  相似文献

Polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles in polystyrene (PS) matrix were synthesized by emulsion polymerization using ferric sulfate, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and n-amyl alcohol as an oxidant, emulsifier and dopant, and co-emulsifier, respectively. The content of PPy nanoparticles in the composites varied from 14.11 to 34.63 wt%, as calculated from elemental analysis. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy images showed spherical nanopartciles of PPy with diameters of 30–74 nm were well dispersed in PS matrix. It was found that the thermal stability and electrical conductivity of PS/PPy composites increased with increasing content of PPy nanoparticles.  相似文献

Hessian cloth (jute fabrics) reinforced poly(propylene) (PP) composites (45 wt% fiber) were prepared by compression molding and the mechanical properties were evaluated. Jute fabrics and PP sheets were treated with UV radiation at different intensities and then composites were fabricated. It was found that mechanical properties of the irradiated jute and irradiated PP-based composites were found to increase significantly compared to that of the untreated counterparts. Irradiated jute fabrics were also treated with aqueous starch solution (1–5%, w/w) for 2–10 min. Composites made of 3% starch-treated jute fabrics (5 min soaking time) and irradiated PP showed the best mechanical properties. Tensile strength, bending strength, tensile modulus, bending modulus and impact strength of the composites were found to improve 31, 41, 42, 46 and 84% higher over untreated composites. Water uptake, thermal degradation and dielectric properties of the resulting composites were also performed.  相似文献

This work addresses the effect of organomodified layer double hydroxide (OLDH) on the properties of PP/LDH nanocomposites prepared by melt intercalation method using a single screw extruder with maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MA) as a compatibilizer. For this, Ni-Al LDH was first prepared by the co-precipitation method at constant pH using their nitrate salts. The above synthesized pristine LDH was organically modified using sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) by the regeneration method. The structural and thermal properties of LDH and PP nanocomposites were performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The influence of LDH loading on the mechanical and thermal properties of the nanocomposite was also investigated. The XRD results confirmed the formation of exfoliated PP/LDH nanocomposites. PP/LDH nanocomposites exhibited enhanced thermal stability relative to the pure PP. When 10% weight loss was selected as a point of comparison, the decomposition temperature of PP/LDH (5 wt%) nanocomposite was 15.3°C higher than that of pure PP. The DSC result indicated an increase in crystallization and melting temperature of the PP/LDH nanocomposites compared to pure PP. Overall, the mechanical properties of the PP/LDH nanocomposites increased with an increase in the LDH content. The maximum improvement of tensile strength, Young's modulus, flexural strength, and flexural modulus for the PP/LDH nanocomposite was found to be 11, 22.5, 28, and 22%, respectively, over neat PP. For comparison purposes, a nanocomposite with 5 wt% modified bentonite (PP/B5) was also prepared under the same operating condition and there was no significant improvement in mechanical properties (tensile strength and modulus).  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP)/exfoliated graphite nanoplatelet (xGnP) nanocomposites with various intrinsic aspect ratios of graphite nanoplatelets (GnPs; large and small in diameter) were prepared by a melt‐mixing procedure. Transmission electron microscopy showed that all types of xGnP were well‐dispersed in the polymer matrix. The effects of the dimensions and loading of the xGnPs on the morphology, mechanical reinforcement, and electrical properties of PP/xGnP were studied. A differential scanning calorimetry study of the PP/xGnP morphology indicated that all types of xGnP additives were heterogeneous nucleation sites for PP crystallization. Tensile testing, DMA, and thermogravimetric analysis of PP/xGnPs with different types of GnP additives showed enhancements in their mechanical properties, heat resistance, and thermal stability compared to plain PP. We also found a significant increase in the conductivity of PP/xGnP. The PP/xGnP with a large diameter of GnPs demonstrated the lowest percolation threshold, equal to 4 vol % of the xGnP loading. The mechanical properties were estimated by means of micromechanical modeling. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 2013  相似文献

The effect of successive injection moldings on the thermal, rheological, and mechanical properties of a polypropylene impact copolymer (PP) was investigated. The crystal content decreased as the molecular weight decreased due to chain scission with repeated injection molding. The Young modulus and the yield stress remained constant, despite a drop in the strain to break. Virgin and recycled PP matrix were filled with nanosized calcium carbonate (CaCO3) particles. The effect of morphology on the thermal and mechanical properties of nanocomposites of virgin and recycled PP filled with nanosized CaCO3 particles was also studied. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were strongly influenced by the intrinsic toughness of the matrix and the concentration and dispersion of the filler. The yield strength and strain of virgin PP decreased gradually, while its Young's modulus increased slightly with increasing CaCO3 loading. These phenomena were less pronounced for the recycled matrix. Incorporation of nanoparticles to virgin matrix produced an increase in tensile stiffness and ductility, when good dispersion of the filler was achieved. However, the impact strength dropped dramatically for high filler contents. A significant increase in impact strength was observed for the recycled PP. POLYM. ENG. Polypropylene (PP)/C60 nanocomposites with improved interfacial interaction were prepared via in situ melt radical reaction. It was found that the relaxation time of PP/C60 nanocomposites containing peroxide increased due to the reaction between C60 and PP macroradicals and the formation of long chain branched or crosslinking structure. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results showed that the thermal stability of PP/C60 nanocomposites was enhanced. The initial decomposition temperatures and activation energy of PP/C60 nancomposites were strongly influenced by the content of unreacted C60. Because of the improved interfacial interaction, PP/C60 nanocomposites containing peroxide showed obvious increase in tensile strength, Young' modulus, flexural strength, flexural modulus, and impact strength, compared to PP/C60 nanocomposites (without peroxide) containing the same content of C60. Polpyrrole (PPy)/Ag nanocomposites were successfully synthesized at the interface of water and ionic liquid by one-step UV-induced polymerization. Highly dispersed PPy/Ag nanoparticles were obtained by controlling the experimental conditions. The results of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that the UV-induced interface polymerization leaded to the formation of PPy incorporating silver nanoparticles. It was also found that the electrical conductivity of PPy/Ag nanocomposite was about 100 times higher than that of pure PPy.  相似文献

Structural variation and its influence on morphology, mechanical, thermal, and electrical conductivity properties of polyethylene oxide/poly(propylene glycol)-block-poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(propylene glycol)/2,4-toluene diisocyanate/polypyrrole (PEO/P(P-E-P)G/TDI/PPy) blends and nanocomposites with varying PPy content were reported. The chemical and fundamental linkages were confirmed by FTIR. SEM micrographs demonstrated homogeneous PEO/P(P-E-P)G/TDI/PPy blend formation and globular morphology for nanocomposites. The mechanical and DSC parameters were found to increase systematically with increasing PPy content in blend films. While for nanocomposites, better results were observed for 0.1% PPy content. Maximum electrical conductivity and good shape recovery of 94% was obtained for the nanocomposite with 1% PPy content.  相似文献

A study of the improvement of the mechanical and thermal properties of nanocomposites prepared with polypropylene (PP) and different graphene samples [graphene oxide (GO), reduced GO (RGO), and commercial graphene (G)] is presented. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy characterization were applied to the graphene samples. The nanocomposites were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, XRD, differential scanning calorimetry, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), tensile, and impact resistance tests. PP/RGO nanocomposites showed significant improvement in mechanical and thermal properties. Sample PP/RGO-0.75 resulted in an increment in Young's modulus (51%), tensile strength (24%), and elongation at break (15%). This is attributed to a good dispersion state, a higher crystallinity percentage, and a good interfacial adhesion between PP and RGO. Sample PP/RGO-0.50 exhibited an increase of 197 °C in the temperature at which a loss in weight of 5% occurred, compared to that for pure PP. The height of stacked layers calculated by XRD measurements was similar to the value observed by TEM. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2020 , 137, 48258.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP)/layered-silicate organoclay nanocomposites and their fibers were prepared by melt compounding and melt spinning, respectively, in the presence or absence of compatibilizer (PP-based maleic anhydride compatibilizer) to examine the effects of the organoclay dispersion and rheological behavior on the internal structure and tensile properties of the nanocomposite fibers. The compatibilized nanocomposites showed solidlike plateau behavior and strain hardening due to a three-dimensional network structure in the shear and uniaxial elongational flows. The tensile properties of the nanocomposite fibers were reduced compared with those of the pure PP fibers because some of the layered silicates were present as partially aggregated forms and the molecular weight of the compatibilizer was lower than that of the pure PP matrix. It was also found that the tenacity of the nanocomposite fiber increased and then decreased as the compatibilizer content increased because the compatibilizer affected the internal structure of the nanocomposite fibers. The positive effect of the compatibilizer was to generate a more effective exfoliated structure of organoclay in the polymer matrix. The negative effect was that the melt-spun nanocomposite fiber had a lower molecular weight than the pure PP fiber because the compatibilizer had a lower molecular weight. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An ultrasound‐assisted extrusion system was added to melt extrusion process to prepare polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs). The relationships among the ultrasound vibration, exfoliation, and dispersion morphology of GNPs in PP matrix, the crystallinity, and the macroscopic properties of nanocomposites were investigated. The properties measurement results showed that the present of ultrasound vibrations increased the conductive properties, decreased the apparent viscosity and crystallinity of PP/GNPs nanocomposites. FESEM results revealed that the ultrasound vibration increased the exfoliation and dispersion of GNPs in PP matrix. This morphology was benefit for forming electrical and thermal network, therefore the electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity of PP/GNP nanocomposites were increased. But the powerful vibration that provided by 300 W ultrasound power would reduce the diameter of GNPs, then reduce its conductive properties. FTIR and TGA results showed that ultrasound vibration had less effect on the chemical bond and the degradation of PP/GNPs nanocomposites. POLYM. ENG. Polypropylene (PP)/clay nanocomposites prepared by melt blending technique using different percentages of clay with and without maleic anhydride grafted PP (MA‐PP) were studied. The intercalated and exfoliated structure of nanocomposites was characterized by X‐Ray Diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Because of the typical intercalated and exfoliated structure, the tensile modulus of the nanocomposites were improved significantly as compared to virgin PP. The viscoelastic behavior of the nanocomposites was studied by dynamical mechanical analysis (DMA) and the results showed that with the addition of treated clay to PP there was substantial improvement in storage modulus increases. The thermal stability and crystallization of the PP nanocomposites as studied by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) were also improved significantly compared to PP. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In the present research, the reinforcement effect of vapor grown carbon nanofiber (VGCNF) was studied in relation to the mechanical properties and electrical conduction behavior of fabricated nanocomposites. Different weight fractions of nanofillers into epoxy resin, from 0.05 to 1 wt% and up to 2 wt% for mechanical and electrical properties were investigated. It was found that the optimum improvement in mechanical properties of nanocomposite is obtained at 0.25 wt% of carbon nanofibers. At this filler content, 23 % enhancement in tensile strength and 10 % in flexural strength have been observed. The degree of the VGCNF dispersion has been monitored by means of viscosity variation of the suspension during the sonication process to obtain the optimum sonication time. Finally, the quality of the dispersion for post-cured nanocomposites is characterized by fractured surfaces using the scanning electron microscopy. Agglomerates had a direct effect on the reduction of tensile and flexural strength of nanocomposites. The electrical conductivity was obtained by means of surface measuring method. The optimum amount of filler for the generation of a fine electrical conductivity was found to be around 0.5 wt% of VGCNF. After the threshold point, the electrical conductivity of nanocomposites was slightly raised in spite of adding more filler contents.  相似文献

Polypropylene/Pine apple leaf fiber (PP/PALF)‐reinforced nanocomposites were fabricated using melt blending technique in a twin‐screw extruder (Haake Rheocord 9000). Variation in mechanical properties, crystallization behavior, water absorption, and thermal stability with the addition of nanoclay in PP/PALF composites were investigated. It was observed that the tensile, flexural, and impact properties of PP increase with the increase in fiber loading from 10 to 30 wt %. Composites prepared using 30 wt % PALF and 5 wt % MA‐g‐PP exhibited optimum mechanical performance with an increase in tensile strength to 31%, flexural strength to 45% when compared with virgin PP. Addition of nanoclay results in a further increase in tensile and flexural strength of PP/PALF composites to 20 and 24.3%, which shows intercalated morphology. However, addition of nanoclay does not show any substantial increase in impact strength when compared with PP/PALF composites. Dynamic mechanical analysis tests revealed an increase in storage modulus (E′) and damping factor (tan δ), confirming a strong influence between the fiber/nanoclay and MA‐g‐PP. Differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis thermograms also showed improved thermal properties when compared with the virgin matrix. TEM micrographs also showed few layers of agglomerated clay galleries along with mixed nanomorphology in the nanocomposites. Wide angle X‐ray diffraction studies indicated an increase in d‐spacing from 22.4 Å in Cloisite 20A to 40.1 Å in PP/PALF nanocomposite because of improved intercalated morphology. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) were prepared via melt extrusion. A special sheet die containing with two shunt plates was designed. The relationships among the flow field of the special die, exfoliation, and dispersion morphology of the GNPs in PP and the macroscopic properties of the nanocomposites were analyzed. Flow field simulation results show that the die with shunt plates provided a high shear stress, high pressure, and high velocity. The differential scanning calorimetry, X‐ray scattering, and electron microscopy results reveal that the nanocomposites prepared by the die with the shunt plates had higher crystallinity values and higher exfoliation degrees of GNPs. The orientation of the GNPs parallel with the extrusion direction was also observed. The nanocomposites prepared by the die with shunt plates showed a higher electrical volume conductivity, thermal conductivity, and tensile properties. This indicated that the high shear stress exfoliated the GNPs effectively to a thinner layer and then enhanced the electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J.
