The mechanical and tribological properties of carbon fiber (CF) reinforced polyamide 66 (PA66)/polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) blend composite were studied in this article. It was found that CF reinforcement greatly increases the mechanical properties of PA66/PPS blend. The friction coefficient of the sample decreases with the increase of CF content. When CF content is lower (below 30%), the wear resistance is deteriorated by the addition of CF. However, the loading of higher than 30% CF significantly improves the tribological properties of the blend. The lowest friction coefficient (0.31) and the wear volume (1.05 mm3) were obtained with the PA66/PPS blend containing 30% CF. The transfer film and the worn surface formed by sample during sliding were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The observations revealed that the friction coefficient of PA66/PPS/CF composite depends on the formation and development of a transfer film on the counterface. The abrasive wear caused by ruptured CFs (for lower CF content) and the load bearing ability of CFs (for higher CF content) are the major factors affecting the wear volume. In addition, the improvements of mechanical properties, thermal conductivity, and self‐lubrication of bulk CFs are also contributed to the wear behavior of PA66/PPS/CF composite. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Silane surface modification method was used for the surface treatment of carbon fiber to improve the interfacial adhesion of the carbon fiber reinforced bismaleimide(BMI) composite. The surface characteristics of untreated and treated carbon fiber were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscope. The friction and wear properties of the BMI composites filled with differently surface treated carbon fibers(20 vol%), were investigated on a ring-on-block tribometer. Experimental results revealed that silane treatment largely reduced the friction and wear of CF/BMI composites. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) of worn surfaces of BMI composites showed that surface treated CF/BMI composite had the strongest interfacial adhesion.  相似文献

Friction and wear tests of the C3D/MCN composites with untreated and treated carbon fabric were conducted. The characteristics of the carbon fiber, the interface strength, the hardness, and the worn surface morphologies of the C3D/MCN composites were analyzed. The results show that the specific surface area of treated carbon fiber was far higher than that of untreated carbon fiber and there formed a functional group of -C=O on the carbon fiber surface after air oxidation. The oxidation of the carbon fibers improved the interface strength between the carbon fibers and the matrix and had little effect on the hardness of the composites. The friction coefficient and wear rate of C3D/MCN composites with oxidized carbon fibers were apparently lower than those with untreated carbon fibers. In conclusion, the oxidation of the fibers showed good effects on the improvement of the interface strength and the tribological properties of the composites.  相似文献

Abstract

Polyacrylonitrile based carbon fibres were submitted to nitric acid oxidation treatments to improve the interfacial adhesion of the carbon fibre reinforced polyimide (CF/PI) composite. The carbon fibre surfaces were characterised by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Nitric acid oxidation not only affects the oxygen concentration, but also produces an appreciable change in the nature of the chemical functions, namely the conversion of hydroxy type oxygen into carboxyl functions. Nitrogen concentration of nitric acid oxidation treated carbon fibre is ~1·2 times higher compared with untreated one. The mechanical and tribological properties of the CF/PI composites treated with nitric acid oxidation were investigated. Results showed that the tensile strength of the CF/PI composites improved remarkably due to nitric acid treatment along with enhancement in friction and wear performance.  相似文献

The carbon fibers have been exposed to nitric acid oxidation treatments and introduced into polyoxymethylene composites (POM/CF). The nitric acid treatment increases the number of the flaws, roughness of the surface, and disorder of carbon atoms on fiber, as well as introduces reactive functional groups, which could lead to a better mechanical bonding between fiber and the matrix. It is shown that the impact strength and fiber‐matrix adhesion in composites (POM/mCF) are superior to those for POM/CF composites. Simultaneously, the addition of mCF improves flexural strength and modulus relative to virgin POM significantly. Average friction coefficient values of POM/CF composites are lower than that of POM/mCF composites. As the percentage of fiber increases, the trend of wear ratio of the composites goes down initially and bumps up afterwards. The results indicate that the proper contents of CF and mCF in composites range from 5 wt % to 20 wt %. Scanning electron microscopy of worn surface morphology has revealed that the main wear mechanism of the composites were adhesive wear and ploughing wear. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. 采用碳纤维(CF)改性聚酰胺(PA)6,从而获得PA 6/CF复合材料。结果表明:CF被浓硝酸氧化后,表面会引入碳氮、碳氧等极性基团,增加了PA 6与CF的界面反应活性;CF经浓硝酸处理后表面有许多沟槽出现,增大的表面积对PA 6与CF间机械锁合有利;随着浓硝酸处理CF时间的延长,复合材料的悬臂梁缺口冲击强度略有提高,拉伸强度提高较大;CF被过度氧化时,复合材料的缺口冲击强度、拉伸强度均降低;经浓硝酸氧化处理后,增强了CF界面黏结效果,CF被PA 6紧密包覆,断裂时两者有黏结现象发生;未经浓硝酸处理的样条在纤维拔出后会留下大量空洞,经浓硝酸处理后CF表面极性基团增加,提高了CF与基体树脂的黏结强度。  相似文献

The hydroxylate carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grafted by chemical method on the surface of the oxidized carbon fibers (CF) to improve the mechanical and tribological properties of polyimide (PI). The microstructure and fracture surface of the polyimide composites indicated that CF–CNTs hybrid as a multiscale reinforcement can distribute into the PI matrix homogeneously. Tribo-tests further showed that CF–CNTs hybrid had a better effect on hardness increment, impact strength enhancement, friction reduction, and wear resistance. Compared to the neat PI, the friction coefficient and wear rate of CF–CNTs/PI composite deceased by 23.2 and 55.9%, respectively. In particular, the loading capacity and high speed resistance of CF–CNTs/PI composite were greatly improved. Based on previous work, 70 vol % PA66/30 vol % PPS blend was selected as a matrix, and the PA66/PPS blend reinforced with different content of glass fiber (GF) was prepared in this study. The mechanical properties of PA66/PPS/GF composites were studied, and the tribological behaviors were tested on block‐on‐ring sliding wear tester. The results showed that 20–30 vol % GF greatly increases the mechanical properties of PA66/PPS blend. When GF content is 20 vol %, the friction coefficient of composite is the lowest (0.35), which is decreased by 47% in comparison with the unfilled blend. The wear volume of the GF‐reinforced PA66/PPS blend composite decreases with the increase of GF content. However, the wear‐resistance is not apparently improved by the addition of GF in the experimental range for comparison with unfilled PA66/PPS blend. The worn surface and the transfer film on the counterface were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The observations revealed that the friction coefficient of composite depends on the formation and development of a transfer film. The wear mechanism involves polymer matrix wear and fiber wear. The former consists of melting wear and plastic deformation of the matrix, while the latter includes fiber sliding wear, cracking, rupturing, and pulverizing. The contributions of the matrix wear and the fiber wear determine the ultimate wear volume of PA66/PPS/GF composite. The interfacial adhesion of the carbon fiber (CF) reinforced polyurethane (PU) composite was improved by the means of anodic oxidation treatment. The mechanical and reciprocating sliding wear properties were studied and results showed that the anodic oxidation treatment have definitely improved the mechanical strength. And the wear and the friction coefficient of PU decreased with the addition of CF. The friction coefficients of anodic oxidation treated CF/PU composites are lower than those of PU and CF/PU composite. The interfacial adhesion between the CF and PU dominated the main wear mechanisms.  相似文献

Dielectric barrier discharges (DBD) in ambient air are used on carbon fiber to improve the carbon fiber surface activity. Carbon fibers with length of 75 um are placed into the plasma configuration. The tribological properties of polypropylene filled with untreated and DBD treated carbon fiber are comparatively investigated. Results show that DBD treatment greatly improve the friction and wear properties of carbon fiber reinforced polypropylene composite (CF/PP).  相似文献

The melt‐mixing polyamide 66 (PA66) composite samples that incorporated pure, acid‐ and amine‐functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared in order to enhance mechanical and frictional properties of PA66 composites. The homogeneous dispersion of amine‐functionalized MWCNTs (D‐MWCNTs) in PA66 matrix was observed from the significantly uniform morphology of tensile fractured surface of the composites. Differential scanning calorimetry measurement indicates that D‐MWCNTs acted as effective nucleation agent for PA66 matrix and the crystallinity of PA66 was increased. The fracture stress and tensile modulus of the composites were significantly improved with the incorporation of D‐MWCNTs, owing to the good dispersion of D‐MWCNTs. Compared with PA66, the PA66 composites with 1.0 wt% D‐MWCNTs were improved considerably in both wear and friction properties owing to the change of the tribological mechanisms. The good dispersion of D‐MWCNTs in PA66 and good interface compatibility between D‐MWCNTs and PA66 favored the formation of a thin layer on the contact surfaces during wear and friction test, which played an important role in reducing wear and friction of the composite and in suppressing the transverse cracks. These results prove the importance of D‐MWCNTs in a positive change of the mechanical and frictional properties of PA66 composites and suggest the applicability prospect of PA66/D‐MWCNTs composites in engineering components.POLYM. Polyamide 66(PA66)/clay nanocomposites were prepared by direct melt compounding. The mechanical and tribological properties were evaluated. It was found that addition of clay into PA66 increased the bending strength and microhardness of PA66. And also, the incorporation of clay can reduce the friction coefficient of PA66. The nanocomposites which have the mass fraction less than 5% show less wear rate compared with neat PA66. High fraction of clay can cause severe agglomerated abrasives. The differences in the friction and wear behaviors of PA66 and PA66/clay nanocomposites are attributed to the differences in their surface morphologies, transfer film characteristic. The agglomerated abrasives on the worn surface contribute to the increase of wear rate of nanocomposites of higher mass fraction clay. The friction and wear behaviors of PA66 and its nanocomposites under high temperature exhibit similar tendency with those under 25°C. POLYM. ENG. 研究了聚酰胺66(PA66)改性玻璃纤维(GF)增强聚苯硫醚(PPS)(PPS/PA66/GF)复合体系的摩擦因数、磨损体积、磨损后表面的微观形貌及损耗因子峰值、储能模量对摩擦因数的影响。结果表明,PA66的加入显著改善了复合材料的摩擦学性能,当PA66含量为40 %(质量分数,下同)时,磨损最小,为5.24 mm3,相对于PPS+30 %GF(13.60 mm3)下降了61 %;扫描电镜分析磨损表面,随着PA66含量的增加,磨损机理由磨粒磨损转为粘着磨损;复合材料损耗因子峰值越大,摩擦因数越小;初始储能模量越大,摩擦因数越小。  相似文献

The tribological, mechanical, and thermal properties of carbon series additions reinforced CF/PTFE composites at high speed were investigated. In this work, carbon fiber (CF) filled polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) composites, which have excellent tribological properties under normal sliding speed (1.4 m/s), were filled with some carbon materials [graphene (GE), carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphite (Gr)] respectively to investigate the tribological properties of CF/PTFE composites at high sliding speed (2.1 and 2.5 m/s). The results reveal that the carbon series additions can improve the friction and anti‐wear performances of CF/PTFE, and GE is the most effective filler. The wear rate of 0.8 wt % GE/CF/PTFE was decreased by 50 ? 55%, 55 ? 60%, 40 ? 45% at 1.4, 2.1, and 2.5 m/s compared with CF/PTFE. SEM study shows GE could be helpful to form smooth and continuous transfer film on the surface of counterparts. Meanwhile, GE can improve its tensile strength and elastic modulus obviously. Thin layer structure of GE could enhance the thermal conductivity, which can be helpful to dissipate heat of CF/PTFE composites wear surface. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. 研究了芳纶纤维增强丁腈橡胶(NBR)复合材料的物理机械性能和摩擦性能,并用扫描电子显微镜分析了芳纶纤维增强NBR复合材料的磨损表面和磨屑形貌。结果表明,芳纶的加入提高了NBR的拉伸强度;随着芳纶用量的增大,复合材料的扯断伸长率降低;芳纶的加入降低了NBR的摩擦系数和磨损率;当芳纶用量为20份时,复合材料的综合性能最佳。加入芳纶对NBR摩擦磨损形式的改变是NBR摩擦性能提高的重要原因。  相似文献

The effect of air-oxidation and ozone surface treatment of carbon fibers (CF) on tribological properties of CF reinforced Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) composites under oil-lubricated condition was investigated. Experimental results revealed that ozone treated CF reinforced PTFE (CF/PTFE) composite had the lowest friction coefficient and wear. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) study of carbon fiber surface showed that the increase in the amount of oxygen-containing groups enhanced interfacial adhesion between CF and PTFE matrix. With strong interfacial adhesion of the composite, stress could be effectively transmitted to carbon fibers; carbon fibers were strongly bonded with PTFE matrix.  相似文献

根据气体压缩机阀片的要求,制备了碳纤维(CF)和二硫化钼(MoS2)填充热塑性聚酰亚胺(PI)复合材料;研究了不同组成材料的力学性能、摩擦性能,考察了载荷对材料摩擦性能的影响,观察了材料磨损面形貌,并对磨损面进行了元素分析。结果表明:通过填充碳纤维,可以有效增强聚酰亚胺材料的强度;填充MoS2后,材料的力学性能有所下降,但可有效提高材料的极限PV值;随载荷增加,材料的磨损率及摩擦系数都不断减小;该材料适于作高压气体压缩机构件。  相似文献
