The knowledge of the stress‐ and deformation‐induced martensite formation in metastable austenitic steels including the formation temperatures and amounts formed is of considerable importance for the understanding of the transformation induced plasticity. For this purpose a stress‐temperature‐transformation (STT) and a deformation‐temperature‐transformation (DTT) diagram have been developed for the steel X5CrNi 18 10 (1.4301, AISI 304). It is shown that the Md‐temperature for γ→?, ?→α', γ→?→α’ and γ→α’ martensite formation is defined by two stress‐temperature curves which show a different temperature dependence. They specify the beginning and the end of the deformation‐induced martensite formation in the range of uniform elongation. The intersection point defines the corresponding Md‐temperature. The stress difference which results from the stresses for the end and the beginning of the martensite formation shows positive values below the Md‐temperature. It defines the amount of martensite being formed. When the Mdγ→? temperature is reached and the formation of the first deformation‐induced amount of ?‐martensite appears, an anomalous temperature dependence of the maximum uniform elongation starts. The highest values of the maximum uniform elongation are registered for the tested steel in the immediate vicinity of the Mdγ→α' or the Mdγ→?→α' temperature ‐ similar as in other metastable austenitic CrNi steels. At this temperature the highest amount of deformation‐induced ?‐phase exists. The transformation plasticity in the test steel is considerably caused by the deformation‐induced ? and α’ martensite formation. Using the new evaluation method, the increase of plasticity ΔA (TRIP‐effect) and strength ΔR can be quantified.  相似文献

The relationship between the mechanical stability of retained austenite(γ') and the cryogenic toughness of Ni9 steel has been investigated and the phenomena of γ' → martensite(α') transformation in the process of impact deformation-fracture have been observed. The results show that the role of γ'-phase itself is beneficial to cryogenic toughness but rather small, the main reason of good cryogenic toughness in large margin is perhaps γ' → α' transformation performed in process of the impact-fracture.  相似文献

High‐strength TRIPLEX light‐weight steels of the generic composition Fe‐xMn‐yAl‐zC contain 18 ‐ 28 % manganese, 9 ‐ 12 % aluminium, and 0.7 ‐ 1.2 % C (in mass %). The microstructure is composed of an austenitic γ‐Fe(Mn, Al, C) solid solution matrix possessing a fine dispersion of nano size κ‐carbides (Fe,Mn)3 AlC1‐x and α‐Fe(Al, Mn) ferrite of varying volume fractions. The calculated Gibbs free energy of the phase transformation γfcc → ?hcp amounts to ΔGγ→? = 1757 J/mol and the stacking fault energy was determined to ΓSF = 110 mJ/m2. This indicates that the austenite is very stable and no strain induced ?‐martensite will be formed. Mechanical twinning is almost inhibited during plastic deformation. The TRIPLEX steels exhibit low density of 6.5 to 7 g/cm3 and superior mechanical properties, such as high strength of 700 to 1100 MPa and total elongations up to 60 % and more. The specific energy absorption achieved at high strain rates of 103 s?1 is about 0.43 J/mm3. TEM investigations revealed clearly that homogeneous shear band formation accompanied by dislocation glide occurred in deformed tensile samples. The dominant deformation mechanism of these steels is shear band induced plasticity ‐SIP effect‐ sustained by the uniform arrangement of nano size κ‐carbides coherent to the austenitic matrix. The high flow stresses and tensile strengths are caused by effective solid solution hardening and superimposed dispersion strengthening.  相似文献

Industrial processing of low‐alloy Transformation Induced Plasticity (TRIP) steels involves various stages of heat‐treating, such as Intercritical Annealing (IA) and Bainitic Isothermal Treatment (BIT), in order to produce a dispersion of retained austenite (γR) particles and bainite (αB) in a ferritic matrix (α). Retained austenite then transforms to martensite (α′) during forming processes undergone by the steel. In the present work an effort was made to model these stages of processing, i.e. IA, BIT and the γR→α′ strain‐induced transformation. Simulation of heat‐treatment stages was implemented using computational kinetics methods. Investigation of the strain‐induced gMR→α′ transformation kinetics was performed by means of a simple analytical model. Simulation of IA and comparison with available experimental data showed that the amount of austenite (γ) forming during IA reaches the values predicted by thermodynamic equilibrium only at high annealing temperatures (>825°C). It was also observed that kinetic and thermodynamic predictions set a lower and an upper limit, respectively, within which the actual amount of austenite experimentally observed is contained. Results from the simulation of the BIT indicated considerable carbon enrichment, and thus stabilization of γR, in agreement with recent experimental observations. As regards the strain‐induced gMR→α′ transformation, the analytical model employed in the present work was fitted to available experimental results, showing reasonably good adaptation to the kinetic behaviour of the microstructure during plastic deformation.  相似文献

The kinetics of martensitic transformation induced by a tensile stress pulse (generated by the reflection of a compressive shock wave at a free surface) in time durations in the microsecond range, were studied in an Fe-32wt%Ni-0.035wt%C alloy. The tensile hydrostatic component of stress interacts with the dilatational strain (~0.04) of the martensitic transformation and increases the Ms temperature. Shock waves were produced by normal impact of a projectile on a target in a one-stage gas gun. Impact experiments were conducted by varying either the temperature (−10 to −50°C), or pulse duration (0.22−1.76 μs) at a constant pressure. The martensitic transformation, normally considered to be athermal in Fe-Ni-C alloys, exhibits an isothermal nature in the microsecond regime. The fraction transformed increases with decrease in temperature at a constant pulse duration, and increase in pulse duration at a constant temperature. The mean volume of the lenticular martensite was found to be constant throughout the progress of the transformation, consistent with the autocatalytic spreading of clusters. The activation energies for γ→α' transformation in the Fe-32wt%Ni-0.035wt%C alloy, calculated with a modified version of Pati and Cohen's kinetic equation [Acta metall. 17, 189 (1969)], range from 38,000 J/mol at −10°C to 25,000 J/mol at −60°C. The activation energies are linearly related to the total driving force (chemical free energy change + mechanical work due to the transformation). The activation volume for the transformation was calculated and found to be equal to approximately 60 atoms (0.7nm3). This indicates that the martensitic nucleation in this alloy, and under the imposed stress conditions, is interface-mobility controlled.  相似文献

Strain-induced martensitic phase transformation and its influence on the formability of newly developed nitrogen-alloyed metastable austenitic stainless steels were systematically investigated. Yield strength for the asreceived steels bearing lownickel content was around 300 MPa and their elongation ratios varied from 55. 2% to61. 7%. Erichsen numbers of these samples differed from 13. 82 to 14. 57 mm. Although its Cu content was lower than that of other samples, steel D2 exhibited better plasticity and formability, which was attributed to γ→α'martensitic phase transformation. EBSD,XRD,and magnetism tests showed that increases in deformation ratio gradually increased the α' martensite phase of a sample, thereby contributing to its strain and inducing the optimal transformation-induced plasticity effect. An M_(d30/50) temperature of around 20 ℃,which is close to the deformation temperature, provided the austenite with adequate stability and gradually transformed it into martensite, thereby endowing lean ASS with better formability.  相似文献

The dynamic behavior of AISI 301LN2B (EN 1.4318) metastable austenitic steel grade has been investigated at 296 K by means of servohydraulic tensile and split Hopkinson bar testing in the strain rate range 0.005–1000 s?1. As delivered, as well as 10% uniaxial, biaxial, and plane strain pre‐strained conditions, without subsequent heat treatment have been tested. A negative strain rate sensitivity is observed in the low strain rate range between 10?4 and 1–10 s?1. Pre‐straining reduces the magnitude of the adiabatic tensile strength softening, especially in the plane strain condition with higher triaxility. The thermal activation related dynamic flow stress increase is not dependent on pre‐straining. The γ → α′ induced additional flow stress increase, however, is highly strain rate and pre‐straining sensitive. The amount of pre‐straining determines the overall ductility at fracture, and therefore the adiabatic temperature increase. The pre‐straining stress state influences the amount of α′‐martensite formed before dynamic testing, and consequently the maximum intensity of the TRIP induced flow stress increase by subsequent dynamic testing.  相似文献

Stress‐Temperature‐Transformation (STT) and Deformation‐Temperature‐Transformation (DTT) diagrams are well‐suited to characterize the TRIP (transformation‐induced plasticity) and TWIP (twinning‐induced plasticity) effect in steels. The triggering stresses for the deformation‐induced microstructure transformation processes, the characteristic temperatures, the yield stress and the strength of the steel are plotted in the STT diagram as functions of temperature. The elongation values of the austenite, the strain‐induced twins and martensite formations are shown in the DTT diagram. The microstructure evolution of a novel austenitic Cr‐Mn‐Ni (16%Cr, 6% Mn, 6% Ni) as‐cast steel during deformation was investigated at various temperatures using static tensile tests, optical microscopy and the magnetic scale for the detection of ferromagnetic phase fraction. At the temperatures above 250 °C the steel only deforms by glide deformation of the austenite. Strain‐induced twinning replaces the glide deformation at temperatures below 250 °C with increasing strain. Below 100 °C, the strain‐induced martensite formation becomes more pronounced. The kinetics of the α'‐martensite formation is described according to stress and deformation temperatures. The STT and DTT diagrams, enhanced with the kinetics of the martensite formation, are presented in this paper.  相似文献

The requirements of the automotive industry for materials exhibiting increased structural performances are continuously increasing. These materials must remain ductile during the forming operations while also exhibiting improved strength and energy absorption capacities. New highly alloyed steel grades have been studied for a few years now, due to their exceptional mechanical properties resulting from interactions between dislocation plasticity, transformation plasticity and mechanical twinning. This study deals with the mechanical properties of steel grades presenting high manganese compositions. At room temperature, several phase transformations (γ→α', γ→? and ?→α′) were found to occur when the samples are deformed. The effect of different annealing conditions on the mechanical properties and the transformation sequence is analysed. The evolution of the work‐hardening of the samples is interpreted in connection with the kinetics of the phase transformations.  相似文献

A further development of dual‐phase‐steels are represented by TRIP (transformation induced plasticity) ‐steels. TRIP‐steels contain austenite, which is metastable at room temperature. It transforms to martensite during straining (TRIP effect). This process improves the strength‐ductility balance of these steels. Two types of TRIP‐steels, low alloyed (L‐TRIP) and high alloyed (H‐TRIP), can be applied in sheet forming processes and exhibit different forming characteristics. Basing on results of uniaxial tensile tests and the evaluation of Young's modulus the forming limits in deep drawing processes and the component properties of deep drawn parts are discussed. The Young's modulus decreases significantly with increasing pre‐strain, especially demonstrated for the L‐TRIP material TRIP700. Forming limit curves determined at different forming temperatures indicate its influence on the forming limits. Martensite transformation is suppressed at a temperature of approximately T = 200 °C and therefore the major strain ?1 decreases significantly. For the investigated stainless steel AISI304 (H‐TRIP) different lubricant types in comparison to chlorinated paraffins have been tested. Lubricants consisting of sulphur additives led to good forming conditions in forming processes, even better than lubricants based on chlorinated paraffins. The evaluation of component properties, compared between L‐TRIP and H‐TRIP, was done based on the analysis of springback and dent resistance. The L‐TRIP material TRIP700 shows higher springback angles than AISI304 resulting from higher yield strength and decreased Young's modulus, resulting from the forming process. The dent resistance of TRIP‐steel was exemplarily demonstrated for AISI304. Uniaxial pre‐strained sheet specimen were analysed to show the dent resistance depending on dent depth. During elastic denting pre‐strain has no influence on dent resistance. Further increasing dent depth lead to increased dent forces for pre‐strained specimens.  相似文献

In-situ high-energy X-ray diffraction and material modeling are used to investigate the strain-rate dependence of the strain-induced martensitic transformation and the stress partitioning between austenite and α′ martensite in a metastable austenitic stainless steel during tensile loading. Moderate changes of the strain rate alter the strain-induced martensitic transformation, with a significantly lower α′ martensite fraction observed at fracture for a strain rate of 10?2 s?1, as compared to 10?3 s?1. This strain-rate sensitivity is attributed to the adiabatic heating of the samples and is found to be well predicted by the combination of an extended Olson–Cohen strain-induced martensite model and finite-element simulations for the evolving temperature distribution in the samples. In addition, the strain-rate sensitivity affects the deformation behavior of the steel. The α′ martensite transformation at high strains provides local strengthening and extends the time to neck formation. This reinforcement is witnessed by a load transfer from austenite to α′ martensite during loading.  相似文献

For the modeling of the mechanical behavior of a two phase alloy with the rule of mixture (RM), the flow stress of both phases is needed. In order to obtain these information for the α′‐martensite in high alloyed TRIP‐steels, compression tests at cryogenic temperatures were performed to create a fully deformation‐induced martensitic microstructure. This martensitic material condition was subsequently tested under compressive loading at ?60, 20, and 100°C and at strain rates of 10?3, 100, and 103 s?1 to determine the mechanical properties. The α′‐martensite possesses high strength and surprisingly good ductility up to 60% of compressive strain. Using the flow stress behavior of the α′‐martensite and that of the stable austenitic steel AISI 316L, the flow stress behavior of the high alloyed CrMnNi TRIP‐steel is modeled successfully using a special RM proposed by Narutani et al.  相似文献

Modern steel developments often use additional deformation mechanisms like the deformation induced martensitic transformation (TRIP‐effect) and mechanical twinning (TWIP‐effect) to enhance elongation and strength. Three high‐alloyed cast CrMnNi‐steels with different austenite stabilities were examined. Dependent on the austenite stability, TRIP‐effect and TWIP‐effect were found. A low austenite stability causes a distinctive formation of deformation induced α'‐martensite and therefore a strong strain hardening. The increase of strain rate leads to an increase in yield strength and flow stress, but also to a counteractive adiabatic heating of the specimen. Dependent on the degree of deformation, low austenite stabilities and high strain rates lead to excellent values in specific energy absorption.  相似文献

The influence of temperature on the deformation behaviour of a Fe‐16.5Cr‐8Mn‐3Ni‐2Si‐1Cu‐0.25N (wt%) austenitic stainless steel alloy was investigated using transmission electron microscopy and X‐ray diffraction measurements. Recrystallized samples were deformed under tension at ?75°C, 20°C, and 200°C and the microstructures were characterized after 5% strain and after testing to failure. Deformation to failure at ?75°C resulted in extensive transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) with over 90% α′‐martensite. The sample deformed to 5% strain at ?75°C shows that the austenite transformed first to ?‐martensite which served to nucleate the α′‐martensite. Transformation induced martensite prohibits localized necking providing total elongation to failure of over 70%. At room temperature, in addition to some TRIP behaviour, the majority of the deformation is accommodated by dislocation slip in the austenite. Some deformation induced twinning (TWIP) was also observed, although mechanical twinning provides only a small contribution to the total deformation at room temperature. Finally, dislocation slip is the dominant deformation mechanism at 200°C with a corresponding decrease in total elongation to failure. These changes in deformation behaviour are related to the temperature dependence on the relative stability of austenite and martensite as well as the changes in stacking fault energy (SFE) as a function of temperature.  相似文献

This paper presents a comprehensive study on the strain-induced martensitic transformation and reversion transformation of the strain-induced martensite in AISI 304 stainless steel using a number of complementary techniques such as dilatometry, calorimetry, magnetometry, and in-situ X-ray diffraction, coupled with high-resolution microstructural transmission Kikuchi diffraction analysis. Tensile deformation was applied at temperatures between room temperature and 213 K (−60 °C) in order to obtain a different volume fraction of strain-induced martensite (up to ~70 pct). The volume fraction of the strain-induced martensite, measured by the magnetometric method, was correlated with the total elongation, hardness, and linear thermal expansion coefficient. The thermal expansion coefficient, as well as the hardness of the strain-induced martensitic phase was evaluated. The in-situ thermal treatment experiments showed unusual changes in the kinetics of the reverse transformation (α′ → γ). The X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the reverse transformation may be stress assisted—strains inherited from the martensitic transformation may increase its kinetics at the lower annealing temperature range. More importantly, the transmission Kikuchi diffraction measurements showed that the reverse transformation of the strain-induced martensite proceeds through a displacive, diffusionless mechanism, maintaining the Kurdjumov–Sachs crystallographic relationship between the martensite and the reverted austenite. This finding is in contradiction to the results reported by other researchers for a similar alloy composition.

Isothermal martensite formation in an AISI 52100 ball bearing steel   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The formation of isothermal martensite from the retained austenite in an AISI 52100 ball bearing steel was investigated. Optical microscopy reveals that there are mainly two types of isothermal martensite formation: the growth of the athermal martensite and the nucleation and growth of new martensite in the retained austenite. X-ray diffraction shows that during the isothermal transformation, the ratio of lattice constantsc/a decreases, and TEM verifies the precipitation of Fe, Cr)3C in martensite. The kinetics of the isothermal transformation in the quenched steel also shows “C” shape characteristic. At the first stage of the isothermal formation, recovery of the athermal martensite occurs with an activation energy of 91.8 kJ mol-1, implying that the diffusion of carbon in athermal martensite results in the precipitation of carbide and the relaxation of the strain energy at the martensite/matrix boundary. In the second stage, the activation energy for the isothermal formation is 130 kJ mol-1; that may be the energy required for the rearrangement of the configuration of dislocations, forming preferred sites for nucleation. The effect of strain rate on strain-induced γα′-martensite transformation and mechanical behavior of austenitic stainless steel grades EN 1.4318 (AISI 301LN) and EN 1.4301 (AISI 304) was studied at strain rates ranging between 3×10−4 and 200 s−1. The most important effect of the strain rate was found to be the adiabatic heating that suppresses the strain-induced γα′ transformation. A correlation between the work-hardening rate and the rate of γα′ transformation was found. Therefore, the changes in the extent of the α′-martensite formation strongly affected the work-hardening rate and the ultimate tensile strength of the materials. Changes in the martensite formation and work-hardening rate affected also the ductility of the studied steels. Furthermore, it was shown that the square root of the α′-martensite fraction is a linear function of flow stress. This indicates that the formation of α′-martensite affects the stress by influencing the dislocation density of the austenite phase. Olson-Cohen analysis of the martensite measurement results did not indicate any effect of strain rate on shear band formation, which was contrary to the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) examinations. The β parameter decreased with increasing strain rate, which indicates a decrease in the chemical driving force of the αα′ transformation.  相似文献

This paper presents multiphase (MP) treatments of a low‐C, low‐Si cold rolled steel. Despite the much lower content of Si compared to a typical TRIP steel, up to about 8 pct of retained austenite (γr) with 1.2 % carbon content can be obtained. Increasing prior cold deformation (i.e. decrease of parent austenite grain size) accelerates the transformation to bainite resulting in a decrease of the volume fraction of residual austenite (γr + martensite). Tensile strength of MP steel intercritically annealed at high temperature increases with higher cold reduction degree due to the smaller grain size of the present phases. On the contrary, the ductility and strength‐ductility balance deteriorate because the banded structure becomes more pronounced and the γr volume fraction diminishes. Decreasing intercritical annealing temperature results in an increasing γr fraction and a uniform distribution of second phases. Hence, the ductility and strength‐ductility balance are improved. Crystallographic preferred orientation is evident in the ferrite and martensite and its extent increases with higher cold deformation.  相似文献

In the present investigation experiments were carried out to find strain history effects on deformation-induced austenite transformation in a metastable stainless steel sheet. The aim of this work was to obtain information on a final amount of martensite formed during γ → α’ transformation under various strain paths. All tests were performed at room temperature and at 0°C. Relationships of volume fraction α’ martensite vs true plastic strain XM = f(ε) are presented and analysed.  相似文献
