The problem of arbitrarily incident plane-wave scattering from rod structures of thick conducting plates arranged with two-dimensional (2D) periodicity has been examined. The square approximation as well as truncated-square approximation of circular cross sections is used in this study. The impedance of cascaded screens and the reflection coefficient is calculated using the multimodal variational method for both TE- and TM-polarized incident electric field. The 2D periodic structure of holes described in this paper can be used for the purpose of designing new guiding microwave structures. A transverse resonance method is applied to solve this problem. The convergence behavior of the technique has also been examined. The numerical results of the reflection coefficient, surface impedance, and dispersion curves are presented  相似文献

A discrete-time approach is introduced for the analysis of periodic waveguide gratings with gain (or loss) extending concepts developed for transfer matrix and Gel'fand-Levitan-Marchenko (GLM) inverse scattering techniques. The periodic waveguide grating with gain (or loss) is modeled as a lossy layered dielectric that allows for a digital signal processing (DSP) formulation of the forward and inverse scattering problem. It is shown that the DSP forward scattering formulation as an asymmetric two-component wave system is equivalent to the impedance matching matrix method. A numerical example is presented to emphasize this result. The DSP formulation is an exact discrete design, not just an approximation to a continuous design, and includes all multiple reflections, transmission scattering losses, and absorption effects. A comparison of the continuous GLM, discrete GLM, and discrete Krein inverse problem formulations for a medium with gain (or loss) is presented. The discrete lossy formulations generalize previous lossless results and are found from two different types of reflection data. Since slab gratings are discrete (not continuous) structures, the integral equations used to describe the continuous inverse problem are shown to become matrix equations. Thus, our result enables fast algorithms to be used to solve the inverse problem. A fast algorithm is presented allowing for the complete reconstruction of the grating parameters from its two-sided response in a recursive (slab by slab) fashion  相似文献

A novel vectorial modal method is presented for studying guidance and scattering of frequency-selective structures based on lossy all-dielectric multilayered waveguide gratings for both TE and TM polarizations. The wave equation for the transverse magnetic field is written in terms of a linear differential operator satisfying an eigenvalue equation. The definition of an auxiliary problem whose eigenvectors satisfy an orthogonality relationship allows for a matrix representation of the eigenvalue equation. Our proposed technique has been applied to the study of lossy all-dielectric periodic guiding media with periodicity in one dimension. This method yields the propagation constants and field distributions in such media. The reflection and transmission coefficients of a single layer under a plane-wave excitation can be obtained by imposing the boundary conditions. Study of the scattering parameters of the whole multilayered structure is accomplished by the cascade connection of components as characterized by their scattering parameters. Results obtained with this method for the propagation characteristics of a one-dimensional periodic dielectric medium are compared with those presented by other authors, and results for the scattering of several dielectric frequency-selective surfaces (DFSS) are compared with both theoretical and experimental results presented in the literature, finding a very good agreement. A symmetrical band-stop filter with a single waveguide grating is also demonstrated theoretically.  相似文献

The Wiener-Hopf tectilque is used to obtain an exact solution to a two-dimensional scattering problem. In the problem solved, an incident TE/sub 10/ mode, traveling from z= -/spl infin/ in the positive z direction, is confined by infinite bounding planes; these planes have infinite conductivity for z<0 and an impedance Z/sub 1/, for z>0. The scattering from the junction at z=0 gives rise to reflection and transmission coefficients that are exactly determined. An approximate solution for the reflection coefficients is also given when the TE/sub 10/ mode is incident from the opposite direction. Finally, a table is presented which lists some transmission and reflection coefficients for rectangular and circular waveguides with discontinuities in the wall impedances.  相似文献

A periodic structure that is a pair of Bragg gratings produced by a decaying acoustic wave is considered. The problem of light diffraction by such structures is solved. Changes of the cavity transmission function are found with allowance for the attenuation of the propagating acoustic wave. Analytical expressions for the light wave transmission and reflection functions are derived, and it is also shown that narrow reflection (or transmission) lines are formed along with standard transmission windows. In contrast to cavities formed by dielectric mirrors, such a cavity supports a mode with a modulated Q factor. In particular, it is stated that a Fabry-Perot cavity can be applied in the terahertz wavelength band.  相似文献

The band structure for normal propagation of crystals with finite straight metallic wires is studied for different wire diameters and lengths. The crystal is considered as a set of parallel grids. Dispersion characteristics are obtained by using a transmission line model where the parameters are calculated from the reflection and transmission coefficients of the grids. These coefficients are computed rigorously with a finite difference time domain (FDTD) code. Simulated and experimental results for two structures with the dual behavior, pass-band and stop-band, are presented. This study have potential applications in electrically controlled microwave components.  相似文献

A general solution to the problem of determining first the aperture field distribution and then the transmission and reflection coefficients of an infinite planar conducting sheet perforated periodically with apertures has been formulated. The excitation is considered to be a plane wave incident at any arbitrary angle. The aperture dimensions and array element spacings were assumed to be comparable with the wavelength of the incident electromagnetic field. The solution given can include the effect of a dielectric slab used to support the thin conducting sheet. The solution is obtained by matching the tangential field components at the surface of the screen. The resulting integral equation is solved by the method of moments which reduces the integral equation to a system of linear algebraic equations that can be solved with the use of a digital computer. Accurate results for both the magnitude and phase of the aperture field distribution and the transmission coefficients for the propagating modes are determined explicitly for a specific example of slots arranged in an equilateral triangular lattice. The balance of power flow between the reflected and the transmitted waves has been checked with satisfactory results. The solution can be applied to the problem of scattering from a conducting screen with periodic apertures and to the complementary problem of scattering from a set of conducting plates by the use of Babinet's principle.  相似文献

Combined the effective mirror surface model with the transfer matrix method, a detailed theoretical and numerical study on Fabry–Perot cavity consisting of two chirped fiber Bragg gratings is investigated. Results demonstrate that transmission responses of the Fabry–Perot cavity can be adjusted by changing the cascading sequences of the two gratings. When the two gratings are connected in the direction of same chirping, approximately uniform resonance and group delay are exhibited. However, some distinctive non-uniformity of the neighboring resonance peaks intervals is shown if the two gratings are cascaded in the opposite chirping sequences. In addition, for the Fabry–Perot cavity constructed by chirped-fiber-Bragg-gratings with different amplitudes or bandwidths, efficient resonances are achieved only in the common reflection range.  相似文献

Ideal reflector simulation of wire gratings is considered. Results for infinite plane gratings under linearly polarized plane waves, based on Astrakhan's averaged boundary conditions, yield conclusions on influence of wire orientation, mesh size, and wire connection. The grating sag is considered. Its influence on strength and phase shift of the reflection is estimated from a simple scatter problem, using Kirchhoff's approximation. A smoothness criterion is given. The results of the work are related to an unstationary method to measure radiation patterns of aircraft antennas in flight.  相似文献

A formally exact full-wave solution is presented for the problem of scattering at a nonchiral-chiral interface in a coaxial waveguide. The field components for the axisymmetric modes in a coaxial chirowaveguide are initially obtained. A new orthogonality relation for the modes is then proposed and used to find expansion coefficients for the electromagnetic fields in the coaxial chirowaveguide. The scattering matrix for the nonchiral-chiral dielectric discontinuity in a coaxial waveguide is finally derived by enforcing the continuity conditions of the tangential field components across the interface. A scattering transfer matrix factorization based algorithm for cascaded lossless commensurate line synthesis is presented. The characteristic impedances of the extracted commensurate lines and the reflection factors of the remaining networks are formulated in terms of reflection factor coefficients of the whole circuit. There is no need to use root search routines so as to cancel common terms, to get degree reduction. The formulation of the method is explained, and an example is included, to illustrate the implementation of the synthesis algorithm.  相似文献

基于铁磁性基体与金属线阵列复合结构等效电磁参数的长波近似模型,设计了一种应用铁磁性基体的二维双负材料。根据带有介质包裹层的金属线的散射特性,采取多重散射方法计算了铁磁性基体与金属线阵列复合结构的传输谱;还通过全波仿真提取了单元结构的等效电磁参数。这些数值结果与长波近似模型的理论结果取得了很好的一致,确认了该模型的正确性。通过仿真周期复合体系中的电磁场分布,在所设计的双负频带内观察到了反向波现象,进一步验证了所设计的复合体系的双负特性。  相似文献

Fiber gratings operating in the transmission mode can provide high dispersion at wavelengths close to the Bragg resonance. When multiple gratings are cascaded for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) applications, the net dispersion between the stop bands of any two consecutive gratings is significantly modified. We discuss the dispersion characteristics of such cascaded fiber gratings and propose a dispersion compensator for simultaneous compensation of group-velocity dispersion (GVD) for multiple channels of a WDM lightwave system. A square waveguide with periodic septums is considered with a view towards determining the parameters of a structure which suppresses three of four possible propagating modes. The analysis is presented in two parts, the first of which is concerned with the isolated septum. Using available techniques, semi-infinite scattering matrices are determined for the semi-infinite septum for arbitrary TE/sub N0/, TE/sub N1/, and TM/sub N1/ incident modes. These are used to derive Fredholm matrix equations which yield the field everywhere near the finite length septum. The leading terms of the inverted equations are the far-field transmission and reflection coefficients. The solutions are evaluated for several frequencies, and fifth degree polynomials are fitted for the computation of S/sub 11/ and S/sub 12/. The analysis for the TE/sub 10/ mode is applicable to an arbitrary height waveguide and may be used without modification for the "finite length" septum in conventional waveguide. The second part is concerned with the periodic waveguide and assumes that the septums are far apart. A contour chart is introduced to visualize the performance of the periodic structure. The chart is especially useful when more than one propagating mode is involved and simplifies the design problem so that the parameters of practical structures may be obtained with little effort.  相似文献

The paper presents a rigorous solution of the scattering problem by a circular dielectric and perfectly conducting cylinders of any radius and any height in the rectangular waveguide oriented perpendicularly to a wall. The method is based on the representation of fields in waveguide and dielectric medium by cylindrical eigenfunctions and application of boundary conditions on surfaces of the cylinder to evaluate the fields inside and outside the cylinder. The reflection and transmission coefficients are expressed through the fields. As an example the reflection and transmission coefficients versus frequency for various dielectric and metallic cylinders are computed. Frequency-scanned gratings consisting of periodic arrays of thin conducting elements are investigated. The principle used is to let the first higher-order diffracted wave propagate and serve as the frequency-scanned beam. The grating structures are designed for optimum blazing to the desired diffracted wave (i.e., for optimal power conversion from the incident wave to the diffracted wave) by the use of an iterative optimization process. Both reflection and transmission gratings are considered; the elements investigated are single dipoles and crossed dipoles. The theoretical analysis is based on Floquet's theorem and the method of moments. Several numerical examples are presented showing that this type of grating structure has a high blazing efficiency and is suitable for frequency scanning.
