Since the primary factor contributing to the internal effective dose in the human organism is contaminated food, the control of radionuclides in food represents the most important means of protection. This study was conducted to determine the levels of the dietary exposure of the Lebanese population to gamma-emitting radioisotopes. The activity concentrations of gamma-emitting radioisotopes have been measured in food samples that represent the market basket of an adult urban population in Lebanon. The artificial radionuclide (137)Cs was measured above detection limits in only fish, meat and milk-based deserts. The most abundant natural radionuclide was 40K (31-121 Bq kg(-1)), with the highest content in fish and meat samples. The annual mean effective dose contributed by 40K in the reference typical diet was estimated equal to 186 microSv y(-1), a value reasonably consistent with findings reported by several other countries. 相似文献

The concentrations of (238)U and (226)Ra were determined in different foodstuffs purchased from markets in Tehran. Determinations of the radionuclides have been carried out using alpha spectrometry technique, on samples of egg, lentil, potato, rice, soya, spinach, tea and wheat. Average concentrations of natural radionuclides and foodstuff consumption rate were used to assess annual intake and based on intake values, the annual effective ingestion dose has been estimated for Tehran city residents. The measurement results show that soya has the maximum concentration of (238)U equal to 15.6 +/- 2.6 mBq kg(-1) and tea has the maximum concentration of (226)Ra equal to 1153.3 +/- 265.3 mBq kg(-1). Besides, the maximum annual effective dose from (238)U and (226)Ra were assessed to be 2.88 x 10(-2) +/- 7.20 x 10(-3) and 2.15 +/- 0.54 muSv, respectively, from wheat samples. 相似文献

In order to investigate the radiological hazard of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) and man-made (137)Cs radionuclide in the Bay of Cádiz, 149 samples of sediments have been analysed. Activity concentration in all the samples was determined using a HPGe detection system. Activity concentrations values of (226)Ra, (232)Th, (40)K and (137)Cs in the samples were 12.6±2.6 (2.5-40.6), 18.5±4.0 (2.8-73.4), 451±45 (105-1342) and 3.2±1.3 (0.2-16.0) Bq kg(-1), respectively. Outdoor external dose rate due to natural and man-made radionuclides was calculated to be 35.79±1.69 (4.71-119.16) nGy h(-1) and annual effective dose was estimated to be 43.89±2.27 (5.78-146.14) μSv y(-1). Results showed low levels of radioactivity due to NORM and man-made (137)Cs radionuclide in marine sediments recovered from the Bay of Cádiz (Spain), discarding any significant radiological risks related to human activities of the area. Furthermore, the obtained data set could be used as background levels for future research. 相似文献

The purposes of this study were to establish the difference between empirical and mechanistic–empirical approaches in the flexible pavement design and to quantify the effects of mean annual precipitation and temperature on the flexible pavement distresses using the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) software. Seventy-six specific locations from 13 states throughout the USA were selected based on different climate conditions using virtual climate stations based on the interpolation from the nearest weather stations prior to meeting the objectives. Subsequently, analysis was conducted based on the predicted distresses, including longitudinal cracking, transverse cracking, alligator cracking, asphalt concrete rutting and total pavement permanent deformation. Generally, the pavement structure and materials have been set as constant to control the effects of material on the results. On the basis of the MEPDG analysis, the longitudinal cracking of flexible pavement is significantly affected by both factors (temperature and precipitation), particularly in wet climatic regions. The mean annual temperature has a great influence on the alligator cracking, transverse cracking and permanent deformation of flexible pavement. However, neither factors demonstrated a significant impact on the predicted International Roughness Index of flexible pavement surfaces. 相似文献

A review and analysis of published information combined with the results of recent gamma ray surveys were used to determine the annual effective dose to Canadians from natural sources of radiation. The dose due to external radiation was determined from ground gamma ray surveys carried out in the cities of Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Winnipeg and was calculated to be 219 microSv. A compilation of airborne gamma ray data from Canada and the United States shows that there are large variations in external radiation with the highest annual outdoor level of 1424 microSv being found in northern Canada. The annual effective inhalation dose of 926 microSv from 222Rn and 220Rn was calculated from approximately 14,000 measurements across Canada. This value includes a contribution of 128 microSv from 222Rn in the outdoor air together with 6 microSv from long-lived uranium and thorium series radionuclides in dust particles. Based on published information, the annual effective dose due to internal radioactivity is 306 microSv. A program developed by the Federal Aviation Administration was used to calculate a population-weighted annual effective dose from cosmic radiation of 318 microSv. The total population-weighted average annual effective dose to Canadians from all sources of natural background radiation was calculated to be 1769 microSv but varies significantly from city to city, largely due to differences in the inhalation dose from 222Rn. 相似文献

Inhalation exposure to workers in the Florida phosphate industry due to TENORM aerosols has not been adequately addressed owing to lack of aerosol information. One of the more critical factors is the absorption rate of inhaled radionuclides into blood. In this study, this parameter was characterised using an in vitro dissolution test. The solubility data and other aerosol information were then used for individualised dose assessments at six different Florida phosphate facilities. The solubility data support the selections of ICRP Publication 66 Type M for uranium and lead isotopes and Type S for thorium isotopes. Total annual effective doses are 0.34 +/- 0.12 mSv at granulator areas, 0.30 +/- 0.10 mSv at storage areas and 0.23 +/- 0.02 mSv at shipping areas. These findings are considerably lower than originally postulated in previous studies where no site-specific information on particle size and lung fluid solubility had been available. 相似文献

The outdoor and indoor measurement of natural gamma radiation in Zanjan province (Iran) was made using a Geiger-Muller dosemeter. The average outdoor and indoor dose rates were determined as 127 +/- 20 and 135 +/- 23 nSv h(-1), respectively. The average annual effective dose was calculated as 0.82 mSv, which is more than the same value worldwide. 相似文献

Nowadays the consumption of bottled mineral waters has become very popular. The average consumption of these is 0.36 l d(-1) per person in Europe. A considerable segment of the population drinks almost only mineral water as drinking water, which is about 1 l d(-1). As is known, some kinds of mineral waters contain naturally occurring radionuclides in higher concentration than the usual drinking (tap) water. The WHO (1993) legislation concerning the drinking waters does not include the mineral waters. In our work, the concentrations of (226)Ra, (238)U and (210)Po were determined in mineral waters available in Hungary. To determine the (226)Ra concentration the emanation method was used. The (238)U and (210)Po concentrations were determined by alpha spectrometry using semiconductor detector. The dose contribution was calculated using the radionuclide concentrations and the dose conversion factors from the Basic Safety Standard IAEA (1995), for 1 l d(-1) mineral water consumption. In some cases the calculated doses were considerable higher than the limit for drinking waters. Especially for children the doses can be remarkably high. 相似文献

The average outdoor absorbed dose rate in air and the average annual effective dose equivalent due to terrestrial gamma radiation from 40K, 238U and 232Th in rocks in Ondo and Ekiti States, Southwestern Nigeria have been evaluated from measurements of the concentrations of these radionuclides in this environmental material. The concentration measurements were obtained using a very sensitive gamma spectroscopic system consisting of a 7.6 cm x 7.6 cm NaI(Tl) scintillation detector coupled to a computerised ACCUSPEC installation. The average absorbed dose rate and average annual effective dose equivalent was found to be 8.33 +/- 2.76 nGy x h(-1) and 8.7 +/- 2.9 microSv x y(-1) respectively. 相似文献

The results from 2 years (2001-2002) of experimental measurements of in-board radiation doses received at IBERIA commercial flights are presented. The routes studied cover the most significant destinations and provide a good estimate of the route doses as required by the new Spanish regulations on air crew radiation protection. Details on the experimental procedures and calibration methods are given. The experimental measurements from the different instruments (Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter and the combination of a high pressure ion chamber and a high-energy neutron compensated rem-counter) and their comparison with the predictions from some route-dose codes (CARI-6, EPCARD 3.2) are discussed. In contrast with the already published data, which are mainly focused on North latitudes over parallel 50, many of the data presented in this work have been obtained for routes from Spain to Central and South America. 相似文献

The purpose of the multi-centre study was to assess dose area product (DAP) and effective dose of patients undergoing angiography of the lower limbs in Belgium and to investigate the correlation between DAP and effective dose. DAP values were measured in 12 centres and compared with the national diagnostic reference levels (DRLs). The effective dose (E) was estimated by multiplying the DAP with case-specific conversion coefficients (CCs) that were calculated with Monte Carlo software MCNP5. As a model for the patient, a mathematical hermaphrodite phantom was used. Calculations showed that tube configurations and extra Cu filtration have a large influence on these CCs. Due to the use of Cu filtration, effective dose can be twice as high for comparable DAP values. Also the use of an over-couch tube configuration is a disadvantage when compared with the under-couch tube configuration. For centres working under-couch without the use of extra Cu-filtration, the DAP values correlate very well with effective dose (Spearman's rank correlation rho ; = 0.97). For these conditions, general CCs between DAP and E were calculated. They were 0.083 mSv Gy(-1) cm(-2) (ICRP 60) and 0.065 mSv Gy(-1) cm(-2) (ICRP 103). 相似文献

The difference between weekly measurements and the annual arithmetic mean of radon indoor concentration CRn,Indoor was studied in the Czech Republic. The deviations were analysed for 1537 weekly measurements which were consecutively obtained in 29 rooms over a period of 1 year and the annual arithmetic mean was calculated for each particular room. The relationship of the deviations to three meteorological parameters (i.e. outside temperature, atmospheric pressure, and weekly rainfall) and to the sequential number of a calendar week was studied. The effect of atmospheric pressure and weekly rainfall was not significant. The deviation between a weekly measurement and the annual arithmetic mean depended significantly on outside weekly average temperatures. If the average outside weekly temperature was below 10 degrees C, the radon concentration was systematically higher than that of the annual arithmetic mean. The deviation variability was lower up to a temperature of 10 degrees C. If the weekly average outdoor temperature was higher than 10 degrees C, the uncertainty of a weekly measurement of radon concentration was also higher. 相似文献

Organ and the effective doses of patients undergoing clinical X ray examinations of chest and abdomen were evaluated with an anthropomorphic phantom and a new dosimetry system. The system was comprised of 34 pin photodiode dosemeters placed in/on particular tissues or organs of the anthropomorphic phantom, where the tissues and organs are defined by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) to estimate the effective doses. Dosemeter signals were acquired on a personal computer directly, and converted into absorbed doses, from which the organ and the effective doses were evaluated on the computer. Our study showed that organ doses ranged from <0.01 to 0.72 mGy in routine X-ray radiography of chest and of abdomen and from 0.07 to 55.91 mGy in routine computed tomography (CT) examinations with current multi-slice CT scanners. The effective dose observed in the chest CT examination was approximately 300 times higher than that in chest radiography. 相似文献

The ICRP protection quantities, equivalent and effective dose: their basis and application 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Equivalent and effective dose are protection quantities defined by the The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP). They are frequently referred to simply as dose and may be misused. They provide a method for the summation of doses received from external sources and from intakes of radionuclides for comparison with dose limits and constraints, set to limit the risk of cancer and hereditary effects. For the assessment of internal doses, ICRP provides dose coefficients (Sv Bq(-1)) for the ingestion or inhalation of radionuclides by workers and members of the public, including children. Dose coefficients have also been calculated for in utero exposures following maternal intakes and for the transfer of radionuclides in breast milk. In each case, values are given of committed equivalent doses to organs and tissues and committed effective dose. Their calculation involves the use of defined biokinetic and dosimetric models, including the use of reference phantoms representing the human body. Radiation weighting factors are used as a simple representation of the different effectiveness of different radiations in causing stochastic effects at low doses. A single set of tissue weighting factors is used to take account of the contribution of individual organs and tissues to overall detriment from cancer and hereditary effects, despite age- and gender-related differences in estimates of risk and contributions to risk. The results are quantities that are not individual specific but are reference values for protection purposes, relating to doses to phantoms. The ICRP protection quantities are not intended for detailed assessments of dose and risk to individuals. They should not be used in epidemiological analyses or the assessment of the possibility of occurrence and severity of tissue reactions (deterministic effects) at higher doses. Dose coefficients are published as reference values and as such have no associated uncertainty. Assessments of uncertainties may be appropriate in specific analyses of doses and risks and in epidemiological studies. 相似文献

Radioactivity concentrations in soil and dose assessment for Samsun City Centre, Turkey 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this study, natural gamma radioactivity levels were determined in the soil samples of the Samsun city centre by using the gamma ray spectrometry method. The analysis carried out with the high-purity germanium gamma spectrometry system has shown that average activity concentrations of (238)U, (232)Th, (40)K and (137)Cs were 19±2, 22±4, 521±23 and 15±1 Bq kg(-1), respectively. From the gamma analysis of soil samples, the average value of the absorbed gamma dose rates in air and the average value of the external annual effective dose rates were calculated as 45±4 nGy h(-1) and 55±5 μSv y(-1), respectively. The external hazard index has also been calculated and it has been found that the radiation hazard in Samsun is insignificant. 相似文献

This study assesses the level of background radiation for Kayseri province of Turkey. Natural radionuclide activity concentrations in soil samples were determined using high-resolution gamma spectroscopy. Outdoor gamma dose measurements in air at 1 m above ground level were determined using a portable gamma scintillation detector. The obtained results of uranium and thorium series as well as potassium ((40)K) are discussed. The present data were compared with the data obtained from different areas in Turkey. From the measured gamma-ray spectra, the average activity concentrations were determined for (238)U (range from 3.91 to 794.25 Bq kg(-1)), (232)Th (range from 0.68 to 245.55 Bq kg(-1)) and (40)K (range from 23.68 to 2718.71 Bq kg(-1)). The average activity concentrations of (238)U, (232)Th and (40)K were found to be 35.51, 37.27 and 429.66 Bq kg(-1), respectively, and 11.53 Bq kg(-1) for the fission product (137)Cs. The highest values of (238)U, (232)Th and (40)K concentrations (794.25 Bq kg(-1), 245.55 Bq kg(-1), 2718.71 Bq kg(-1), respectively) were observed in abnormal samples at Hayriye village. The average outdoor gamma dose rate in air at 1 m above the ground was determined as 114.43 nGy h(-1). Using the data obtained in this study, the average annual effective dose for a person living in Kayseri was found to be about 140.34 μSv. 相似文献

The concentrations of naturally occurring radionuclides in the sediments of the Ogun River in Southwestern Nigeria were measured using NaI(Tl) gamma-ray spectrometry. The measurements were made in an effort to better understand the spatial distribution of natural radioactivity and to form a database of radioactivity levels of the Ogun River. The total average activity concentrations of (40)K, (226)Ra and (232)Th in the sediment samples representing the whole Ogun River from the upper region through the middle to the lower region of the river were 499.476±59.167, 12.649±3.476 and 11.774±5.126, respectively. The range of the activity concentrations of (40)K, (226)Ra and (232)Th for the Ogun River were found to be from 370.969±19.261 (at Olopade) to 608.023±24.658 (at Owere), 5.567±2.359 (at Ekerin) to 20.395±4.516 (at Sokori) and 5.037±2.244 (at Mile 12-Maidan) to 23.096±4.806 (at Sokori). The values obtained were compared with internationally accepted values. No man-made radionuclides were detected at any of the locations. 相似文献

Monitoring of radiation exposure of aircrew is a legal requirement for many airlines in the EU and a challenging task in dosimetry. Monte-Carlo simulations of cosmic particles in the atmosphere can contribute to the understanding of the corresponding radiation field. Calculations of secondary neutron fluences in the atmosphere produced by galactic cosmic rays together with the resulting neutron-effective dose rates are shown in this paper and compared with results from the AIR project. The PLANETOCOSMICS package based on GEANT4 and two models for the local interstellar spectra of galactic cosmic rays have been used for the calculations. Furthermore, secondary muon fluences have been computed and are compared with CAPRICE measurements. 相似文献

Radioactivity concentrations and dose assessment for soil samples from Kestanbol granite area, Turkey 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The concentrations and distribution of natural and anthropogenic radionuclides in soils from around the Kestanbol (Canakkale), Turkey were investigated with an aim of evaluating the environmental radioactivity and radiological health hazard. Concentrations of radionuclides in the samples were determined by gamma ray spectrometer using HPGe detector. In the soils in general, the concentration of (232)Th was found to be higher than that of the (238)U and the activities of (232)Th and (238)U in this area are higher than the world average. (137)Cs was observed in all the samples, ranging from 0.37 +/- 0.22 to 36.03 +/- 0.54 Bq kg(-1). The mean radium equivalent activity, external hazard index and terrestrial absorbed dose rate for the area under study are 498 Bq kg(-1), 1.4 and 219 nGy h(-1), respectively. The annual effective dose to the public was found to be 269 muSv. The present data were compared with data obtained from different countries. 相似文献

About 300 samples of groundwater were collected in the region of Extremadura (Spain) in order to analyse their radon activity concentrations. Correlations with the geological characteristics of the aquifer soil were studied. Internal doses by inhalation due to radon exhalation from the water sample and doses by ingestion were estimated. A model was used to calculate the lung dose due to inhalation of radon exhaled from the water. The estimated lung dose range found for the samples was from 2.1 x 10(-3) to 13 mSv a(-1) (the average contribution to the dose due to radon inhalation in Spain being approximately 1.2 mSv a(-1)). The estimated dose by ingestion ranged from 4.1 x 10(-4) to 3.3 mSv a(-1). 相似文献
