The paper presents a fatigue damage accumulation model, which allows us to predict fatigue life under low cycle uniaxial loadings at elevated temperatures. The structure of the model has been based on the stress–strain curves obtained during the experimental study. The model has been verified experimentally by applying experimental studies carried out on ENAW-2024T3 aluminum alloy and 2Cr–2WVTa steel. Moreover, a comparison between the results of fatigue life prediction using the proposed damage accumulation model was done with the results obtained on the basis of various generally applied models, based on the Manson–Coffin dependency. Furthermore this paper presents the results of experimental studies carried out on the aluminum alloy ENAW 2024 T3 under uniaxial low cycle fatigue loadings in the conditions of elevated temperatures. In the course of the study, material constants and the parameters of the stress–strain curve in the range of low cycle fatigue for four levels of temperatures (20, 100, 200 and 300 °C) were set.  相似文献

A path‐dependent cycle counting method is proposed by applying the distance formula between two points on the tension‐shear equivalent strain plane for the identified half‐cycles first. The Shang–Wang multiaxial fatigue damage model for an identified half‐cycle and Miner's linear accumulation damage rule are used to calculate cumulative fatigue damage. Therefore, a multiaxial fatigue life prediction procedure is presented to predict conveniently fatigue life under a given tension and torsion random loading time history. The proposed method is evaluated by experimental data from tests on cylindrical thin‐walled tubes specimens of En15R steel subjected to combined tension/torsion random loading, and the prediction results of the proposed method are compared with those of the Wang–Brown method. The results showed that both methods provided satisfactory prediction.  相似文献

A (high strain) low‐cycle fatigue (LCF) life prediction model of ultrafine‐grained (UFG) metals has been proposed. The microstructure of a UFG metal is treated as a two‐phase ‘composite’ consisting of the ‘soft’ matrix (all the grain interiors) and the ‘hard’ reinforcement (all the grain boundaries). The dislocation strengthening of the grain interiors is considered as the major strengthening mechanism in the case of UFG metals. The proposed model is based upon the assumption that there is a fatigue‐damaged zone ahead of the crack tip within which the actual degradation of the UFG metal takes place. In high‐strain LCF conditions, the fatigue‐damaged zone is described as the region in which the local cyclic stress level approaches the ultimate tensile strength of the UFG metal, with the plastic strain localization caused by a dislocation sliding‐off process within it. The fatigue crack growth rate is directly correlated to the range of the crack‐tip opening displacement. The empirical Coffin–Manson and Basquin relationships are derived theoretically and compared with experimental fatigue data obtained on UFG copper (99.99%) at room temperature under both strain and stress control. Good agreement is found between the model and the experimental data. It is remarkable that, although the model is essentially formulated for high strains (LCF), it is also found to be applicable at low strains in the high‐cycle fatigue (HCF) regime.  相似文献

The paper deals with low cycle fatigue (LCF) and mechanical properties of Mg–6Zn–1Y–0.6Ce–0.6Zr alloy at both room and elevated temperatures. Fractural microstructures of the test specimens were also analyzed. Based on the experimental results some guidelines about the application of the Mg alloy are provided. A detailed review of existing literature on LCF of other Mg alloys is provided and comparison with appropriate results of other authors was made. Due to scarcity of results, special attention is given to the low cycle fatigue properties at elevated temperatures. LCF results are assessed relative to the loading defined as a fraction of the ultimate tensile stress. With such criterion, it can be said that increase in temperature leads to the more favorable environment for low cycle fatigue of Mg alloy at hand.  相似文献

The damage evolution of unidirectional C/SiC ceramic-matrix composite (CMC) under cyclic fatigue loading has been investigated using a hysteresis loss energy-based damage parameter at room and elevated temperatures. The experimental fatigue hysteresis modulus and fatigue hysteresis loss energy versus cycle number have been analyzed. By comparing the experimental fatigue hysteresis loss energy with theoretical computational values, the interface shear stress corresponding to different cycle number and peak stress has been estimated. The experimental evolution of fatigue hysteresis loss energy and fatigue hysteresis loss energy-based damage parameter versus cycle number has been predicted for unidirectional C/SiC composite at room and elevated temperatures. The predicted results of interface shear stress degradation, stress–strain hysteresis loops corresponding to different number of applied cycles, fatigue hysteresis loss energy and fatigue hysteresis loss energy-based damage parameter as a functions of cycle number agreed with experimental data. It was found that the fatigue hysteresis energy-based parameter can be used to monitor the fatigue damage evolution and predict the fatigue life of fiber-reinforced CMCs.  相似文献

High‐cycle fatigue‐life behavior of commercial multifilamentary BSCCO 2223 powder‐in‐tube tape and reinforced tape was evaluated. Mechanical fatigue at room temperature and 77 K, and the onset of significant superconductivity degradation at 77 K were evaluated under tension perpendicular to the flat faces of the tapes. No fatigue behavior was observed in this transverse configuration for unreinforced tape, but fatigue–life behavior associated with delamination of the reinforcement was found for reinforced tape. Fatigue tolerance of the reinforced tape is very high, about 24 MPa, to at least 100.000 cycles.  相似文献

This paper evaluates the fatigue life properties of low carbon grey cast iron (EN-GJL-250), which is widely used for automotive brake discs. Although several authors have examined mechanical and fatigue properties at room temperatures, there has been a lack of such data regarding brake discs operating temperatures. The tension, compression and low cycle fatigue properties were examined at room temperature (RT) and at brake discs’ working temperatures: 500 °C, 600 °C and 700 °C. The microstructure of the material was documented and analysed. Tensile stress–strain curves, cyclic hardening/softening curves, stress–strain hysteresis loops, and fatigue life curves were obtained for all the above-mentioned temperatures. It was concluded, that Young’s modulus is comparable with both tension and compression, but yield its strength and ultimate strength are approximately twice as great in compression than in tension. All the mechanical properties remained quite stable until 500 °C, where at 700 °C all deteriorated drastically. During fatigue testing, the samples endured at 500 °C on average at around 50% of cycles at room temperature. Similar to other materials’ properties, the cycles to failure have dropped significantly at 700 °C.  相似文献

Rotor components of an aircraft engine in service are usually subjected to combined high and low cycle fatigue (CCF) loadings. In this work, combining with the load spectrum of CCF, a modified damage accumulation model for CCF life prediction of turbine blades is first put forward to take into account the effects of load consequence and load interaction caused by high‐cycle fatigue (HCF) loads and low‐cycle fatigue (LCF) loads under CCF loading conditions. The predicted results demonstrate that the proposed model presents a higher prediction accuracy than Miner, Manson‐Halford model does. Moreover, to evaluate the fatigue reliability of rotor components, reliability model with the failure mode of CCF is proposed on the basis of the stress‐strength interference method when considering the strength degeneration, and its results show that the reliability model with CCF is more suitable for aero‐engine components than that with the failure mode of single fatigue.  相似文献

Load controlled fatigue experiments were performed on 8-ply unidirectional ([0]8) SCS-6-Ti-15-3 metal matrix composites (MMCs) at different temperatures, and the results were interpreted in terms of the overall three-regime framework of fatigue. The emphasis was on understanding the mechanisms and mechanics of constituent damage evolution, and their effects on fatigue life. Most tests were performed at an R-ratio of 0.1, but limited fully-reversed (R = −1) tests were conducted. In regime 1, damage was fiber failure dominated, but the exact mechanisms were different at room and elevated temperatures. In regime 2, observation of matrix cracks and persistent slip bands provided convincing evidence of matrix dominated damage. Weak fiber-matrix interfaces contributed to crack bridging. However, fiber fracture also played an important role in regime 2; tension-tension and tension-compression tests showed similar lives on a maximum fiber stress basis, although the strain range, which primarily controls matrix crack growth, was almost double for R = −1 compared with R = 0 or 0.1. Good agreement was obtained from the different R-ratio tests, between the MMC and matrix data, and data at room and elevated temperatures, when compared based on the strain range in the tension part of a cycle. Analyses and observations of fiber pull-out lengths and fiber fractures in the matrix crack wake provided evidence of fiber damage; the analyses also helped to explain increased fiber bridging with fiber volume fraction. Issues of fatigue life prediction are briefly discussed.  相似文献

A robust crack growth prediction tool has been developed for a class of hybrid skin materials known as Fibre Metal Laminates (FMLs) which has been thoroughly validated for fatigue loading cases at room temperature. This paper provides a brief overview of this predictive model and presents an investigation into its predictive capabilities at various temperatures. Amongst the temperature effects investigated are crack growth rate in the metal layers, delamination growth rate along the metal–fibre interfaces, and residual curing stresses within the laminate. Results from this investigation indicate that the present model accounting for these effects can accurately predict crack growth in FMLs at room temperature and elevated temperature, but is overly conservative for predictions at low temperatures.  相似文献

High‐temperature low‐cycle fatigue tests with and without a 10‐s strain hold period in a cycle were performed on a nickel base superalloy GH4049 under a fully reversed axial total strain control mode. Three creep–fatigue life prediction methods are chosen to analyse the experimental data. These methods are the linear damage summation method (LDS), the strain range partitioning method (SRP) and the strain energy partitioning method (SEP). Their ability to predict creep‐fatigue lives of GH4049 at 700, 800 and 850 °C has been evaluated. It is found that the SEP method shows an advantage over the SRP method for all the tests under consideration. At 850 °C, the LDS and SEP methods give a more satisfactory prediction for creep–fatigue lives. At the temperatures of 700 and 800 °C, the SRP and SEP methods can correlate the life data better than the LDS method. In addition, the differences in predictive ability of these methods have also been analysed. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination of fracture surfaces reveals that under creep–fatigue test conditions crack initiation mode is transgranular, while crack propagation mode is either intergranular plus transgranular or entirely intergranular, dependent on test temperature.  相似文献

Fatigue is one of the principle damage mechanisms in materials especially at elevated temperatures. It possesses a great influence on the material properties and the possible working life. In this work, a novel technique for the analysis of fatigue at elevated temperature is suggested. Material fundamental frequency and its drop are used as the key parameters to predict the remaining useful life of a selected shape specimen, which is operated under low‐cyclic fatigue loading at elevated temperature. Experiments are performed on aluminium 1050 with two different lengths of a non‐prismatic cantilever beam at room temperature, 100, 200 and 300 °C, respectively. The experimental data is further transformed in to an empirical correlation that can predict specimen useful life. The error in this life prediction is less than 5%, and it reduces more once the frequency drop is increased.  相似文献

A fatigue life prediction method for thermo-mechanical fatigue damage under variable temperature and loading amplitudes was proposed. In this approach, a rainflow cycle counting technique was used to extract cycle counts from the mechanical loading history. For each loading cycle, an equivalent damage temperature was determined. Once the equivalent temperature was used, the loop would be guaranteed closed. This approach was based on the assumption that total fatigue damage is defined as the summation of mechanical fatigue damage and oxidation damage. The mechanical fatigue damage was calculated based on the Smith–Watson–Topper (SWT) model at room temperature, while the oxidation damage was calculated based on the Sehitoglu model determined from the stress/strain data at the equivalent temperature. Finally, Miner’s linear damage rule was used for damage accumulation. A case study with automotive exhaust systems was conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The effect of creep damage was excluded in this study.  相似文献

In the present study, the results of the monotonic tension tests and low cycle fatigue tests performed on aluminium alloy EN AW‐2024‐T3 under various operating temperatures are presented in order to assess the fatigue behaviour of the aluminium alloy under evaluated temperatures. Monotonic tests were performed to determine the influence of temperature on mechanical properties of the material. The aim of cyclic tests was to acquire the parameters required for Manson–Coffin equation in order to plot strain–fatigue life curves. Moreover, stress–strain behaviour of the alloy and the cyclic hardening behaviour were evaluated using Ramberg–Osgood equation. Finally, PSWT‐damage parameters for each temperature have been calculated for further investigation of the effects of the temperature on fatigue life using acquired data while taking the account of mean stress effect into calculations. Variations in the experimental data due to various test temperatures are presented for both monotonic and cyclic tests.  相似文献

This paper proposed a simple life prediction model for assessing fatigue lives of metallic materials subjected to multiaxial low‐cycle fatigue (LCF) loading. This proposed model consists of the maximum shear strain range, the normal strain range and the maximum normal stress on the maximum shear strain range plane. Additional cyclic hardening developed during non‐proportional loading is included in the normal stress and strain terms. A computer‐based procedure for multiaxial fatigue life prediction incorporating critical plane damage parameters is presented as well. The accuracy and reliability of the proposed model are systematically checked by using about 300 test data through testing nine kinds of material under both zero and non‐zero mean stress multiaxial loading paths.  相似文献

Abstract: A statistical model for deriving the stress–life from the strain–life curves is presented. In this way, the fatigue characteristics are obtained not only for the high‐ but also for the low‐cycle fatigue domains. The model reproduces the experimentally observed incurvation in the low‐cycle fatigue region. The proposed method is finally illustrated by its application to a real data case.  相似文献

Spray‐formed hypereutectic aluminium silicon alloy DISPAL® S232–T6x is cycled with variable amplitude at ultrasonic frequency up to the very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime under fully reversed tension–compression loading. The Powder Metallurgy alloy is tested using a Gaussian cumulative frequency distribution of load cycles, and lifetimes are compared with constant amplitude data. Miner calculation delivers mean damage sums between 0.5 and 0.9 for mean lifetimes between 8 × 107 and 1.6 × 1010 cycles, respectively. Cracks are initiated at voids, at inclusions or at distributed inhomogeneities (porous areas or oxides) at the surface or in the interior. In situ analysis of vibration properties indicates that cracks are formed and start growing from the beginning of fatigue cycling, even if failure occurs in the very high cycle fatigue regime. Crack initiation stage is negligible. Lifetime prediction calculation is performed using an adapted Paris‐law and considering lifetime as cycles necessary to propagate an initial crack to failure. Measured and predicted mean lifetimes differ by factor 0.4–1.0. Large crack‐initiating defects strongly reduce the fatigue lifetimes, which is successfully covered in the crack propagation model.  相似文献

Fatigue–creep interaction is a key factor for the failures of many engineering components and structures under high temperature and cyclic loading. These fatigue–creep life prediction issues are significant in selection, design and safety assessments of those components. Based on the frequency‐modified Manson–Coffin equation and Ostergren's model, a new model for high temperature low cycle fatigue (HTLCF), a generalized frequency separation–strain energy damage function model is developed. The approach used in this model to reflect the effects of time‐dependent damaging mechanisms on HTLCF life is different from those used in all the earlier models. A new strain energy damage function is used to reduce the difference between the approximate strain energy and real strain energy absorbed during the damage process. This proposed model can describe the effects of different time‐dependent damaging mechanisms on HTLCF life more accurately than others. Comparing traditional frequency separation technique (FS) and strain energy frequency‐modified approach (SEFS), the proposed model is widely applicable and more precise in predicting the life of fatigue–creep interaction. Experimental data from existing literature are used to demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed model. A good agreement is found between the predicted results and experimental data.  相似文献

A considerable amount of research has been carried out on the prediction of mean stress effects on fatigue crack growth in structures. Newer types of structure are now being developed for use in highly dynamic, harsh marine environments, particularly for renewable energy applications. Therefore, the extent to which mean stresses can enhance corrosion‐assisted fatigue damage in these structures needs to be better understood. A new theoretical model that accounts for mean stress effects on corrosion fatigue crack growth is proposed. The model is developed based on the relative crack opening period per fatigue cycle and by considering only the damaging portion of the stress cycle. The baseline data for the modelling exercise are the data obtained at a stress ratio of 0.1 in air and seawater tests conducted on compact tension specimens. The model is validated by comparison with experimental data and with other fatigue crack propagation models. The proposed model correlates fairly well with experimental data and the other models examined.  相似文献

In this paper, a new fatigue lifetime prediction model is presented for the aluminium–silicon–magnesium alloy, A356.0. This model is based on the plastic strain energy density per cycle including two correction factors in order to consider the effect of the mean stress and the maximum temperature. The thermal term considers creep and oxidation damages in A356.0 alloy. To calibrate the model, isothermal fatigue and out‐of‐phase thermo‐mechanical fatigue (TMF) tests were conducted on the A356.0 alloy. Results showed an improvement in predicting fatigue lifetimes by the present model in comparison with classical theories and also the plastic strain energy density (without any correction factors). Therefore, this model is applicable for TMF, low cycle fatigue (LCF) and both TMF/LCF lifetimes of the A356.0 alloy. Furthermore, this model can be easily used for the estimation of thermo‐mechanical conditions in components such as cylinder heads.  相似文献
