Promoting contextual vocabulary learning through an adaptive computer‐assisted EFL reading system

The study developed an adaptive computer‐assisted reading system and investigated its effect on promoting English as a foreign language learner‐readers' contextual vocabulary learning performance. Seventy Taiwanese college students were assigned to two reading groups. Participants in the customised reading group read online English texts, each of which was customised by the developed system to offer immediate and repeated meetings with previously encountered unknown words, while participants in the typical reading group read online texts without control on unknown word recurrence. After the 4‐week online reading treatment, the two groups of learners were tested by online immediate and delayed vocabulary tests, and the students from the customised reading group were also required to complete the questionnaire regarding system use. The results showed that the vocabulary mean scores from both immediate and delayed testing demonstrated significantly better results in word gain and word retention with the customised reading group and that the adaptive reading system was appealing for the students. The study demonstrated that by providing customised reading with word recurrence specific to individuals' unknown words, this adaptive computer‐assisted English as a foreign language reading system creates a more favourable condition for foreign language vocabulary growth.     

Web-based synchronized multimedia lecture system design for teaching/learning Chinese as second language

In the past decade, the use of computer technology for language instruction has expanded rapidly. In Taiwan, overseas students whose native languages are not Chinese mostly get trouble in learning and communicating particularly during the first year of their study. To overcome their language barrier in National Chi Nan University (NCNU), a Web-based Chinese classroom (http://chinese.csie.ncnu.edu.tw) exploiting advanced Web and multimedia technologies has been initiated since 2002. This paper presents the core developments of the Web-based Synchronized Multimedia Lecture (WSML) system for fulfilling language learning requirements on listening, speaking, reading and writing. It facilitates students in Chinese comprehension self-learning on the Web and can easily be customized for different foreign language learning. Technical issues are addressed from two perspectives to meet the pedagogical approaches of teaching and learning foreign languages: (1) the synchronized multimedia tutoring and the exercise practice functions for students, and (2) the multimedia lecture authoring and the exercise management tools for teachers.

Exploiting Airline Reservation Technologies to Improve Navy Training Management

The Navy trains hundreds of thousands of students every year. For Navy training, yield management means offering the right school seats to the right customers (e.g. active duty, reservists, foreign nationals) at the right time to maximize fleet readiness. The yield management methods will permit the Navy to make the best use of its limited training resources. This paper discusses the yield management technologies that will be tightly integrated into the Navy's new on-line training seat reservation system.     

我国高校工商管理专业管理信息系统教学改革探讨

管理信息系统是工商管理专业中一项重要的学习课程。然而目前的管理信息系统教学与实际结合不够紧密,计算机知识欠缺,学生难以较好的掌握学习内容,因此,我国高校管理信息系统的教学重点已不能适应企业的发展,必须进行有效地改革。笔者针对目前的管理新系统教学方法提出了改革意见。     

PBL教学法在课程教学中的教学研究——以《信息系统项目管理》课程教学为例

PBL教学法是一种以学生为主体、问题为导向的教学方法。该文意在《信息系统项目管理》课程教学中引入该教学法,从而提高该课程的授课质量,提升教学水平,使学生更加积极、主动地参与学习,提高学生的动手能力、理论与实践的综合应用能力、分析解决问题的能力,使学生能提高利用计算机来解决现实生活中遇到实际问题的能力,即使走上工作岗位以后也可以利用所学的计算机知识解决专业领域遇到的问题,也能使该课程更好地围绕计算机信息管理专业。     

综合布线虚拟仿真实验设计

针对传统网络综合布线教学实际,分析网络综合布线实验室的现状以及虚拟仿真实验系统的优点,设计开发了3D效果直观、交互性强、具有一定考核作用的3D虚拟仿真系统。网络综合布线虚拟仿真实验系统能结合实训使学生积累实践经验,通过虚实结合提高动手能力,有效地训练学生创新实验和解决问题的能力,能够让学生更好地完成对项目设计,质量管理和维护管理等一系列的工作。21世纪是一个信息爆炸的时代,也正是一个数字化时代,虚拟仿真技术在现代社会中扮演的角色不仅仅限于娱乐,与教育结合也会突现闪光点。     

Design of educational and ICT conditions to integrate differences in learning: Contextual learning theory and a first transformation step in early education

Educational differentiation and ICT can be designed to better recognize and integrate learning differences across students particularly by assisting instructional management and the self-regulation of students. A conceptual framework for such practice is elaborated here. First, learning as an interactional co-constructive process at various levels is considered. The diagnostic, instructional, management, and system aspects of the learning process can be stimulated and maximized. Second, differentiation of learning procedures and materials, design of integrating ICT support, and improvement of development and learning progress are recommended as contextual conditions to optimize the learning process. The combination of the learning aspects with these contextual conditions provides theoretical guidelines for the transition from a nondifferentiating system of education to a differentiating, ICT-based system of instructional management for all students. Information is given about the realization of two of the differentiation guidelines and all ICT design guidelines. The first products were used in kindergarten, to start the improvement of educational practice. This occurred in co-development with kindergarten teachers of three Dutch kindergartens. Information is given about the process and outcomes of this first transformation step in practice. Finally, next co-development steps are discussed.     

职院学生宿舍管理系统的设计与实现

结合罗定职业技术学院学生宿舍管理现状．设计并开发一款适合该校学生的宿舍管理系统。目前该系统已投入使用,运行状况良好。实践证明,该系统的使用,能大大提高学校对学生宿舍管理工作的效率。方便学校的学生宿舍管理工作。但系统的某些功能以及安全性方面还有待进一步的提高和完善。
