Design optimization without considering uncertainties of system variables and parameters can be problematic in real life. In order to take into account the effect of uncertainties, reliable and robust design schemes have proven effective, but limited studies have been reported to compare their difference in a multiobjective framework. This paper takes a typical vehicle structure subject to offset frontal crashing scenario as an example to compare reliable and robust designs with their deterministic counterpart. The thicknesses of some key components of vehicle frontal structures were selected as design variables, the vehicle weight and energy absorption as the objectives, deceleration and firewall intrusion as the constraints. The deterministic multiobjective optimization problem was first solved by adopting Design of Experimental (DOE), metamodels and Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II). Take into account the uncertainties, a Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) is adopted to generate random distributions of the objective and constraint functions for each design. For the reliability-based optimization the desired reliabilities of 90 %, 95 % and 99 % are considered, respectively. For the robustness-based optimization, two different formulation strategies are adopted. The optimization showed that the reliable and robust Pareto fronts are shifted away from their deterministic counterpart due to uncertainties. The different Pareto fronts yielded from the deterministic, reliable and robust designs are compared to provide some quantitative insights into how to apply these different design schemes for resolving uncertainty problems. It is shown that, compared with the baseline design, the optimizations enhance the crashworthiness of vehicle, though more conservative solutions could have been generated from the reliable and robust optimizations.  相似文献

This paper presents a methodology for reliability-based multiobjective optimization of large-scale engineering systems. This methodology is applied to the vehicle crashworthiness design optimization for side impact, considering both structural crashworthiness and occupant safety, with structural weight and front door velocity under side impact as objectives. Uncertainty quantification is performed using two first order reliability method-based techniques: approximate moment approach and reliability index approach. Genetic algorithm-based multiobjective optimization software GDOT, developed in-house, is used to come up with an optimal pareto front in all cases. The technique employed in this study treats multiple objective functions separately without combining them in any form. It shows that the vehicle weight can be reduced significantly from the baseline design and at the same time reduce the door velocity. The obtained pareto front brings out useful inferences about optimal design regions. A decision-making criterion is subsequently invoked to select the “best” subset of solutions from the obtained nondominated pareto optimal solutions. The reliability, thus computed, is also checked with Monte Carlo simulations. The optimal solution indicated by knee point on the optimal pareto front is verified with LS-DYNA simulation results.  相似文献

Although deterministic optimization has to a considerable extent been successfully applied in various crashworthiness designs to improve passenger safety and reduce vehicle cost, the design could become less meaningful or even unacceptable when considering the perturbations of design variables and noises of system parameters. To overcome this drawback, we present a multiobjective robust optimization methodology to address the effects of parametric uncertainties on multiple crashworthiness criteria, where several different sigma criteria are adopted to measure the variations. As an example, a full front impact of vehicle is considered with increase in energy absorption and reduction of structural weight as the design objectives, and peak deceleration as the constraint. A multiobjective particle swarm optimization is applied to generate robust Pareto solution, which no longer requires formulating a single cost function by using weighting factors or other means. From the example, a clear compromise between the Pareto deterministic and robust designs can be observed. The results demonstrate the advantages of using multiobjective robust optimization, with not only the increase in the energy absorption and decrease in structural weight from a baseline design, but also a significant improvement in the robustness of optimum.  相似文献

Uncertainties in design variables and problem parameters are often inevitable and must be considered in an optimization task if reliable optimal solutions are sought. Besides a number of sampling techniques, there exist several mathematical approximations of a solution's reliability. These techniques are coupled in various ways with optimization in the classical reliability-based optimization field. This paper demonstrates how classical reliability-based concepts can be borrowed and modified and, with integrated single and multiobjective evolutionary algorithms, used to enhance their scope in handling uncertainties involved among decision variables and problem parameters. Three different optimization tasks are discussed in which classical reliability-based optimization procedures usually have difficulties, namely (1) reliability-based optimization problems having multiple local optima, (2) finding and revealing reliable solutions for different reliability indices simultaneously by means of a bi-criterion optimization approach, and (3) multiobjective optimization with uncertainty and specified system or component reliability values. Each of these optimization tasks is illustrated by solving a number of test problems and a well-studied automobile design problem. Results are also compared with a classical reliability-based methodology.  相似文献

In this paper, fuzzy threshold values, instead of crisp threshold values, have been used for optimal reliability-based multi-objective Pareto design of robust state feedback controllers for a single inverted pendulum having parameters with probabilistic uncertainties. The objective functions that have been considered are, namely, the normalized summation of rising time and overshoot of cart (SROC) and the normalized summation of rising time and overshoot of pendulum (SROP) in the deterministic approach. Accordingly, the probabilities of failure of those objective functions are also considered in the reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) approach. A new multi-objective uniform-diversity genetic algorithm (MUGA) is presented and used for Pareto optimum design of linear state feedback controllers for single inverted pendulum problem. In this way, Pareto front of optimum controllers is first obtained for the nominal deterministic single inverted pendulum using the conflicting objective functions in time domain. Such Pareto front is then obtained for single inverted pendulum having probabilistic uncertainties in its parameters using the statistical moments of those objective functions through a Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) approach. It is shown that multi-objective reliability-based Pareto optimization of the robust state feedback controllers using MUGA with fuzzy threshold values includes those that may be obtained by various crisp threshold values of probability of failures and, thus, remove the difficulty of selecting suitable crisp values. Besides, the multi-objective Pareto optimization of such robust feedback controllers using MUGA unveils some very important and informative trade-offs among those objective functions. Consequently, some optimum robust state feedback controllers can be compromisingly chosen from the Pareto frontiers.  相似文献

Most controllers optimization and design problems are multiobjective in nature, since they normally have several (possibly conflicting) objectives that must be satisfied at the same time. Instead of aiming at finding a single solution, the multiobjective optimization methods try to produce a set of good trade-off solutions from which the decision maker may select one. Several methods have been devised for solving multiobjective optimization problems in control systems field. Traditionally, classical optimization algorithms based on nonlinear programming or optimal control theories are applied to obtain the solution of such problems. The presence of multiple objectives in a problem usually gives rise to a set of optimal solutions, largely known as Pareto-optimal solutions. Recently, Multiobjective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEAs) have been applied to control systems problems. Compared with mathematical programming, MOEAs are very suitable to solve multiobjective optimization problems, because they deal simultaneously with a set of solutions and find a number of Pareto optimal solutions in a single run of algorithm. Starting from a set of initial solutions, MOEAs use iteratively improving optimization techniques to find the optimal solutions. In every iterative progress, MOEAs favor population-based Pareto dominance as a measure of fitness. In the MOEAs context, the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II) has been successfully applied to solving many multiobjective problems. This paper presents the design and the tuning of two PID (Proportional–Integral–Derivative) controllers through the NSGA-II approach. Simulation numerical results of multivariable PID control and convergence of the NSGA-II is presented and discussed with application in a robotic manipulator of two-degree-of-freedom. The proposed optimization method based on NSGA-II offers an effective way to implement simple but robust solutions providing a good reference tracking performance in closed loop.  相似文献

This work deals with the multiobjective robust design optimization of rail vehicle systems moving in short radius curved tracks. Two criteria are considered simultaneously, i.e., safety (considered by the derailment risk) and comfort given by noise level. The authors show that the deterministic optimal solutions, for the nominal design parameters, can be altered seriously by the design parameters uncertainty. The authors of this paper propose an original algorithm that combines Genetic Algorithms and Monte Carlo Simulation in order to be used for the robust multiobjective optimization of the rail vehicle design. The obtained solutions, presented by design vectors of the rail vehicle, are analyzed in terms of performances and robustness. The authors show that the robust multiobjective optimization can yield solutions less sensitive to the design parameters uncertainties.  相似文献

This paper proposes an intelligent multiobjective simulated annealing algorithm (IMOSA) and its application to an optimal proportional integral derivative (PID) controller design problem. A well-designed PID-type controller should satisfy the following objectives: 1) disturbance attenuation; 2) robust stability; and 3) accurate setpoint tracking. The optimal PID controller design problem is a large-scale multiobjective optimization problem characterized by the following: 1) nonlinear multimodal search space; 2) large-scale search space; 3) three tight constraints; 4) multiple objectives; and 5) expensive objective function evaluations. In contrast to existing multiobjective algorithms of simulated annealing, the high performance in IMOSA arises mainly from a novel multiobjective generation mechanism using a Pareto-based scoring function without using heuristics. The multiobjective generation mechanism operates on a high-score nondominated solution using a systematic reasoning method based on an orthogonal experimental design, which exploits its neighborhood to economically generate a set of well-distributed nondominated solutions by considering individual and overall objectives. IMOSA is evaluated by using a practical design example of a super-maneuverable fighter aircraft system. An efficient existing multiobjective algorithm, the improved strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm, is also applied to the same example for comparison. Simulation results demonstrate high performance of the IMOSA-based method in designing robust PID controllers.  相似文献

The design of blast-resistant vehicle provides an appropriate level of protection for the vehicle and occupants against the serious threat from landmine and improvised explosive devices (IED). Mathematically, the objective of this research is to optimize the configuration of light armored vehicle installed multilayer honeycomb sandwich structures (MHSS), shock-mitigating seat and seat belt, and cope with the challenge of highly computational cost on dealing with the large scale, multi-parameter, nonlinear and fluid-structure interaction simulation models. Multi material Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (MM-ALE) method is used to obtain the high-precision vehicle responses and occupant injuries under blast wave. The baseline model validated by the blast test is built, and the optimization model for blast-resistant vehicle is defined. Then, identifying important design parameters accurately is so difficultly when sufficient samples are not provided due to the expensive computational cost, and it’s inappropriate to screen parameters with inconsistent sequence of variable sensitivities for occupant injuries. Factor analysis based multi-parameter optimization (FAMO) is proposed to reduce the computational cost on improving the blast resistant performance of vehicle. The normal-boundary intersection (NBI) and the R 2 metric are used to obtain optimal compromise solution which noticeable reduced the peak value of occupant injuries, and the physical insights which drive the optimal solution to reduce the occupant injuries is analyzed. Additional studies are conducted on comparing between proposed algorithm and the conventional algorithm, including shape of the Pareto front, optimal compromise solution, design variables and responses.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the development of an optimization tool with the aim to obtain robust and reliable designs in short computational time. The robustness measures considered here are the expected value and standard deviation of the performance function involved in the optimization problem. When using these robustness measures combined, the search of optimal design appears as a robust multiobjective optimization (RMO) problem. Reliable design addresses uncertainties to restrict the structural probability of failure. The mathematical formulation for the reliability based robust design optimization (RBRDO) problem is obtained by adding a reliability based constraint into the RMO problem. As both, statistics calculations and the reliability analysis could be very costly, approximation technique based on reduced-order modeling (ROM) is also incorporated in our procedure. The selected ROM is the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method, with the aim to produce fast outputs considering structural non-linear behavior. Moreover, to obtain RBRDO designs with reduced CPU time we propose others developments to be added in the integrated tool. They are: Probabilistic Collocation Method (PCM) to evaluate the statistics of the structural responses and, also, an approximated reliability constraints procedure based on the Performance Measure Approach (PMA) for reliability constraint assessment. Finally, Normal-Boundary Intersection (NBI) or Normalized Normal-Constraint (NNC) multiobjective optimization techniques are employed to obtain fast and even spread Pareto robust designs. To illustrate the application of the proposed tool, optimization studies are conducted for a linear (benchmark) and nonlinear trusses problems. The nonlinear example consider different loads level, exploring the material plasticity. The integrated tool prove to be very effective reducing the computational time by up to five orders of magnitude, when compared to the solutions obtained via classical standard approaches.  相似文献

This paper presents a new method that effectively determines a Pareto front for bi-objective optimization with potential application to multiple objectives. A traditional method for multiobjective optimization is the weighted-sum method, which seeks Pareto optimal solutions one by one by systematically changing the weights among the objective functions. Previous research has shown that this method often produces poorly distributed solutions along a Pareto front, and that it does not find Pareto optimal solutions in non-convex regions. The proposed adaptive weighted sum method focuses on unexplored regions by changing the weights adaptively rather than by using a priori weight selections and by specifying additional inequality constraints. It is demonstrated that the adaptive weighted sum method produces well-distributed solutions, finds Pareto optimal solutions in non-convex regions, and neglects non-Pareto optimal solutions. This last point can be a potential liability of Normal Boundary Intersection, an otherwise successful multiobjective method, which is mainly caused by its reliance on equality constraints. The promise of this robust algorithm is demonstrated with two numerical examples and a simple structural optimization problem.  相似文献

Occupant Restraint System (ORS) can effectively protect passengers from severe injury in vehicle collision, thus its design signifies a key issue in automobile engineering. To ensure a high safety rating, e.g. five or at least four stars in the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro-NCAP) rating system, which has been widely used to rate the different vehicles from different manufacturers, design optimization becomes essential. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of conventional mathematical programming methods directly integrated with numerical simulation and sensitivity analysis for optimization is of limited practical value, due to high complexity of structures, nonlinearity of materials and deformation involved. To address the issue, this paper combines a Kriging (KRG) model with Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) for vehicle ORS design. The ORS design of a 40% Offset Deformable Barrier (ODB) frontal impact test with the collision speed of 64 km/h is exemplified for the presented method. The results show that the KRG model can well predict the ORS responses for the design. Finally, the optimum result is verified by using sled physical tests. It is found that the ORS performance can be substantially improved for meeting product development requirements through the proposed approach.  相似文献

When dealing with multiobjective optimization (MO) of the tire-suspension system of a racing car, a large number of design variables and a large number of objectives have to be taken into account. Two different models have been used, both validated on data coming from an instrumented car, a differential equation-based physical model, and a neural network purely numerical model. Up to 23 objective functions have been defined, at least 14 of which are in strict conflict of each other. The equivalent scalar function based and the objective-as-constraint formulations are intentionally avoided due to their well-known limitations. A fuzzy definition of optima, being a generalization of Pareto optimality, is applied to the problem. The result of such an approach is that subsets of Pareto optimal solutions (on such a problem, a big portion of the entire search space) can be properly selected as a consequence of input from the designer. The obtained optimal solutions are compared with the reference vehicle and with the optima previously obtained with design of experiment techniques and different MO optimization strategies. The proposed strategy improves both the reference (actual) car and previously obtained optima (scalar preference function) in the majority of objectives with technically significant improvements. Moreover, the strategy offers an univoque criterion for the choice among tradeoff solutions in the 14-dimensional objective space. The problem is used as a test of a proposed optimal design strategy for industrial problems, integrating differential equation and neural networks modeling, design of experiments, MO, and fuzzy optimal-based decision making. Such a linked approach gives also a unified view of where to concentrate the computational effort.  相似文献

The process of distributed engineering design calls for a methodology making use of the most recent advances in optimization-based design including multidisciplinary and multiobjective optimization. In distributed design, the participating teams do not have access to the design problems of other teams but may exchange limited information about their own current designs, making negotiation among themselves a key mechanism to reach a desired compromise which, nevertheless, is also a Pareto design to the original problem. A mathematical model of this distributed but decomposable design process is posed and solved using Lagrangian relaxation, while Pareto optimality is equivalently converted to single-objective optimality by means of multicriteria decision making strategies. The proposed coordination algorithm allows negotiation among the teams (subproblems) by sharing only limited information that is restricted to values of optimization quantities. The proposed modeling and solution scheme is applied to a numerical example representing the design of vehicle subsystems and components.  相似文献

提出基于遗传算法求解多目标优化问题的方法,将多目标问题分解成多个单目标优化问题,用遗传算法分别在每个单目标种群中并行搜索.在进化过程中的每一代,采用精英选择和个体迁移策略加快多个目标的并行搜索,提出了控制Pareto最优解数量并保持个体多样性的有限精度法,同时还提出了多目标遗传算法的终止条件.数值实验说明所提出的算法能较快地找到一组分布广泛且均匀的Pareto最优解.  相似文献

差分进化是一种有效的优化技术,已成功用于多目标优化问题。但也存在Pareto最优集合的收敛慢和多样性差等问题。针对上述不足,本文提出了一种基于分解和多策略变异的多目标差分进化算法(MODE/DMSM)。该算法利用基于分解的方法将多目标优化问题分解为多个单目标优化问题;通过高效的非支配排序方法选择具有良好收敛性和多样性的解来指导差分进化过程;采用了多策略变异方法来平衡进化过程中收敛性和多样性。在ZDT和DTLZ的10个测试函数上的仿真结果表明,本文算法在Parato最优集合的收敛性和多样性优于其他六种代表性多目标优化算法。  相似文献

As the main safety facility on the highway, a guardrail system is very essential for the highway traffics safety. In this paper, the Finite Element (FE) models of the vehicle and the corrugated beam guardrail system were created. Two types of widely used corrugated beam semi-rigid guardrails were simulated, which were the W-beam guardrail and the Thrie-beam guardrail. The collision between the corrugated beam guardrail systems and the vehicle body was analyzed. In the collision process, the snagging effect of the post to the vehicle body was also concerned. Under the considerations of the collision safety and the mechanism of the snagging effect, the multiobjective optimization problem was defined with dimensional sizes of guardrails to be the design variables. And the radial basis function (RBF) was applied to construct the regression models of the analytical objective, which increased the accuracy of fitting. The Pareto set and the optimal solution were obtained. After the optimization design, the W-beam guardrail and Thrie-beam guardrail were both greatly improved, that increased the collision safety between the corrugated beam guardrail and the vehicle body. This kind of analytical method can also be used for the crashworthiness optimization between any other cars and guardrails.  相似文献

In automotive industry, structural optimization for crashworthiness criteria is of special importance. Due to the high nonlinearities, however, there exists substantial difficulty to obtain accurate continuum or discrete sensitivities. For this reason, metamodel or surrogate model methods have been extensively employed in vehicle design with industry interest. This paper presents a multiobjective optimization procedure for the vehicle design, where the weight, acceleration characteristics and toe-board intrusion are considered as the design objectives. The response surface method with linear and quadratic basis functions is employed to formulate these objectives, in which optimal Latin hypercube sampling and stepwise regression techniques are implemented. In this study, a nondominated sorting genetic algorithm is employed to search for Pareto solution to a full-scale vehicle design problem that undergoes both the full frontal and 40% offset-frontal crashes. The results demonstrate the capability and potential of this procedure in solving the crashworthiness design of vehicles.  相似文献

This paper proposes a novel model predictive control (MPC) scheme based on multiobjective optimization. At each sampling time, the MPC control action is chosen among the set of Pareto optimal solutions based on a time-varying, state-dependent decision criterion. Compared to standard single-objective MPC formulations, such a criterion allows one to take into account several, often irreconcilable, control specifications, such as high bandwidth (closed-loop promptness) when the state vector is far away from the equilibrium and low bandwidth (good noise rejection properties) near the equilibrium. After recasting the optimization problem associated with the multiobjective MPC controller as a multiparametric multiobjective linear or quadratic program, we show that it is possible to compute each Pareto optimal solution as an explicit piecewise affine function of the state vector and of the vector of weights to be assigned to the different objectives in order to get that particular Pareto optimal solution. Furthermore, we provide conditions for selecting Pareto optimal solutions so that the MPC control loop is asymptotically stable, and show the effectiveness of the approach in simulation examples.  相似文献
