Optimal color filters in the presence of noise   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The effect of noise on the number of effective channels (color filters) used to record a color image is investigated. Transmittances of color filters are calculated that minimize the mean square error that occurs when estimating, from the recorded data, the colors in the image under a collection of viewing illuminants. Since the results indicate that a significant improvement in color correction accuracy is achieved by using four channels, there is good reason to consider using four-tuples for representation of colorimetric information.  相似文献

This paper describes the design of color filters for a surface color measurement device. The function of the device is to return the XYZ tristimulus vector characterizing the color of the surface. The device is designed to measure emissive as well as reflective surfaces. It uses an internal set of LEDs to illuminate reflective surfaces while characterizing their color under assumed standard illuminants. In the design of the filters, we formulate a nonlinear optimization problem with the goal of minimizing error in the uniform color space CIE L*a*b*. Our optimization criteria employs a technique to retain a linear structure while approximating the true L*a*b* error. In addition, our solution is regularized to account for system noise, filter roughness, and filter implementation errors. Experimental results indicate average and worst-case device accuracy of 0.27 L*a*b* DeltaE units and 1.56 L*a*b* DeltaE units for a "system tolerance" of 0.0005.  相似文献

Color correction is the transformation of response values of scanners or digital cameras into a device- independent color space. In general, the transformation is not unique due to different acquisition and viewing illuminants and non-satisfaction of the Luther–Ives condition by a majority of devices. In this paper we propose a method that approximates the optimal color correction in the sense of a minimal mean error. The method is based on a representative set of reflectance spectra that is used to calculate a special basic collection of device metameric blacks and an appropriate fundamental metamer for each sensor response. Combining the fundamental metamer and the basic collection results in a set of reflectances that follows the density distribution of metameric reflectances if calculated by Bayesian inference. Transforming only positive and bounded spectra of the set into an observer’s perceptually uniform color space results in a point cloud that follows the density distribution of device metamers within the metamer mismatch space of acqcuisition system and human observer. The mean value of this set is selected for color correction, since this is the point with a minimal mean color distance to all other points in the cloud. We present the results of various simulation experiments considering different acquisition and viewing illuminants, sensor types, noise levels, and existing methods for comparison.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a methodology to design filters for an imaging system to improve the accuracy of the spectral measurements for families of reflective surfaces. We derive the necessary and sufficient conditions that the sensor space of the system must obey in order to measure the spectral reflectance of the surfaces accurately. Through simulations, we show how these conditions can be applied to design filters using a set of sample spectral data acquired from extracted teeth. For this set of data, we also compare our results to those of Wolski's method, a conventional filter design method which produces filters that recover tristimulus values of surfaces accurately under several illuminants. We show that our method produces filters that capture the spectral reflectance better given the same number of measurements. The errors in predicting the color of the sample data are much lower under every test illuminant when the filters designed with our method are used.  相似文献

RGB, a nonuniform color space, is almost universally accepted by the image processing community as the means for representing color. On the other hand, perceptually uniform spaces, such as L*a*b*, as well as approximately-uniform color spaces, such as HSV, exist, in which measured color differences are proportional to the human perception of such differences. This paper compares RGB with L*a*b* and HSV in terms of their effectiveness in color texture analysis. There has been a limited but increasing amount of work on the color aspects of textured images. The results have shown that incorporating color into a texture analysis and recognition scheme can be very important and beneficial. The presented methodology uses a family of Gabor filters specially tuned to measure specific orientations and sizes within each color texture. Effectiveness is measured by the classification performance of each color space, as well as by classifier-independent measures. The processing of color image data using directional information is studied. The class of vector directional filters (VDF), which was introduced by the authors in a previous work, is further considered. The analogy of VDF to the spherical median is shown, and their relation to the spatial median is examined. Moreover, their statistical and deterministic properties are studied, which demonstrate their appropriateness in image processing. VDF result in optimal estimates of the image vectors in the directional sense; this is very important in the case of color images, where the vectors' direction signifies the chromaticity of a given color. Issues regarding the practical implementation of VDF are also considered. In addition, efficient filtering schemes based on VDF are proposed, which include adaptive and/or double-window structures. Experimental and comparative results in image filtering show very good performance measures when the error is measured in the L*a*b* space. L*a*b* is known as a space where equal color differences result in equal distances, and therefore, it is very close to the human perception of colors. Moreover, an indication of the chromaticity error is obtained by measuring the error on the Maxwell triangle; the results demonstrate that VDF are very accurate chromaticity estimators.  相似文献

A CMOS image sensor that employs a vertically integrated double-junction photodiode structure is presented. This allows color imaging with only two filters. The sensor uses a 184*154 (near-QCIF) 6-transistor pixel array at a 9.6-/spl mu/m pitch implemented in 0.35-/spl mu/m technology. Results of the device characterization are presented. The imaging performance of an integrated two-filter color sensor is also projected, using measurements and software processing of subsampled images from the monochrome sensor with two color filters.  相似文献

Colors in a scene change under different illuminants. By adopting models that are used to describe human color constancy, the maximum-spectral-value method is proposed to estimate the illuminant from the maximum distribution of reflected lights in an image. Multi-view video plus depth (MVD) format is considered as the next-generation standard for advanced 3D video systems. MVD consists of multiple color videos with a depth value associated with each texture pixel. Relying on this representation and by using depth-image-based rendering techniques, new viewpoints for multi-view video applications can be generated. However, since MVD is captured from different viewing angles with different cameras, significant illumination and color differences can be observed between views. These color mismatches degrade the performance of view rendering algorithms by introducing visible artifacts leading to a reduced view synthesis quality. To cope with this issue, we propose an effective method for correcting color inconsistencies in MVD. Firstly, to avoid occlusion problems and allow performing correction in the most accurate way, we consider only the overlapping region when calculating the color mapping function. These common regions are determined using a reliable feature matching technique. Also, to maintain the temporal coherence, correction is applied on a temporal sliding window. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces the color difference between views and improves view rendering process providing high-quality results.  相似文献

Various types of multi-view camera systems have been proposed for capturing three dimensional scenes. Yet, color distributions among multi-view images remain inconsistent in most cases, degrading multi-view video coding performance. In this paper, we propose a color correction algorithm based on the camera characteristics to effectively solve such a problem. Initially, we model camera characteristics and estimate their coefficients by means of correspondences between views. To consider occlusion in multi-view images, correspondences are extracted via feature-based matching. During coefficient estimation with nonlinear regression, we remove outliers in the extracted correspondences. Consecutively, we generate lookup tables for each camera using the model and estimated coefficients. Such tables are employed for fast color converting in the final color correction process. The experimental results show that our algorithm enhances coding efficiency with gains of up to 0.9 and 0.8 dB for luminance and chrominance components, respectively. Further, the method also improves subjective viewing quality and reduces color distance between views.  相似文献

Natural scene-illuminant estimation using the sensor correlation   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This paper describes practical algorithms and experimental results concerning illuminant classification. Specifically, we review the sensor correlation algorithm for illuminant classification and we discuss four changes that improve the algorithm's estimation accuracy and broaden its applicability. First, we space the classification illuminants evenly along the reciprocal scale of color temperature, called "mired," rather than the original color-temperature scale. This improves the perceptual uniformity of the illuminant classification set. Second, we calculate correlation values between the image color gamut and the reference illuminant gamut, rather than between the image pixels and the illuminant gamuts. This change makes the algorithm more reliable. Third, we introduce a new image scaling operation to adjust for overall intensity differences between images. Fourth, we develop the three-dimensional classification algorithms using all three-color channels and compare this with the original two algorithms from the viewpoint of accuracy and computational efficiency. Finding color representations that are stable to illuminant changes is still an open problem in computer vision. Until now, most approaches have been based on physical constraints or statistical assumptions derived from the scene, whereas very little attention has been paid to the effects that selected illuminants have on the final color image representation. The novelty of this paper is to propose perceptual constraints that are computed on the corrected images. We define the category hypothesis, which weights the set of feasible illuminants according to their ability to map the corrected image onto specific colors. Here, we choose these colors as the universal color categories related to basic linguistic terms, which have been psychophysically measured. These color categories encode natural color statistics, and their relevance across different cultures is indicated by the fact that they have received a common color name. From this category hypothesis, we propose a fast implementation that allows the sampling of a large set of illuminants. Experiments prove that our method rivals current state-of-art performance without the need for training algorithmic parameters. Additionally, the method can be used as a framework to insert top-down information from other sources, thus opening further research directions in solving for color constancy.  相似文献

This paper presents a comparative evaluation of liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) and cathode-ray tube (CRT) displays from a color-rendition and color-calibration perspective. Common display calibration models and assumptions are reviewed and their applicability to LCDs and CRTs is evaluated through an experimental study. The displays are compared with respect to the color-calibration accuracy, ease of calibration, and achievable color gamut. The offset, matrix, and tone-response correction model commonly employed for CRT color calibration is also suitable for color calibration of LCDs for most applications, though the calibration error for LCDs is higher For the prototype LCDs used in the experimental study, large color variations significantly above the calibration accuracy are observed with changes in viewing angle. Under typical viewing conditions, LCDs provide a significantly larger color gamut than CRTs primarily due to their higher luminances  相似文献

The problem of the design of color scanning filters is addressed in this paper. The problem is posed within the framework of the vector space approach to color systems. The measure of the goodness of a set of color scanning filters presented in earlier work is used as an optimization criterion to design color scanning filters modeled in terms of known, smooth, nonnegative functions. The best filters are then trimmed using the gradient of the mean square DeltaE(ab) error to obtain filters with a lower value of perceptual error.
