Butadiene was polymerized using a monotitanocene complex of η5‐pentamethylcyclopentadienyltribenzyloxy titanium [Cp*Ti(OBz)3] in the presence of four types of modified methylaluminoxanes (mMAO), which contained different amounts of residual trimethylaluminum (TMA). The titanium oxidation states in Cp*Ti(OBz)3/mMAO and Cp*Ti(OBz)3/mMAO/triisobutylaluminum (TIBA) catalytic systems were determined by redox titration method. The effects of various oxidation states of titanium active species on butadiene polymerization were investigated. It was found that Ti(III) active species is more effective for preparing polybutadiene with high molecular weight. The addition of TIBA to the Cp*Ti(OBz)3/mMAO system could reduce a greater number of Ti(IV) complexes to Ti(III) species and lead to significant increases of polymerization activity and molecular weight of polymer, whereas the polybutadiene microstructure was only slightly changed. On the basis of microstructure and property characterization by FTIR, 13C‐NMR, DSC, and WAXD, all resultant polymers were proved to be amorphous polybutadiene with mixed 1,2; cis‐1,4; and trans‐1,4 structures. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymerizations of ethylene with endo‐dicyclopentadiene (DCP) were performed by using Cp2ZrCl2 (Cp = Cyclopentadienyl), Et(Ind)2ZrCl2 (Ind = Indenyl), and Ph2C(Cp)(Flu)ZrCl2 (Flu = Fluorenyl) combined with MAO as cocatalyst. Among these three metallocenes, Et(Ind)2ZrCl2 showed the highest catalyst performance for the copolymerization. From 1H‐NMR analysis, it was found that DCP was copolymerized through enchainment of norbornene rings. The copolymer was then epoxidated by reacting with m‐chloroperbenzoic acid. 13C‐NMR spectrum of the resulting copolymer indicated the quantitative conversion of olefinic to epoxy groups. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Binary copolymerization of 4‐methyl‐1,3‐pentadiene (4MPD) with styrene, butadiene and isoprene promoted by the titanium complex dichloro{1,4‐dithiabutanediyl‐2,2′‐bis[4,6‐bis(2‐phenyl‐2‐propyl)phenoxy]}titanium activated by methylaluminoxane is reported. All the copolymers are obtained in a wide range of composition and the molecular weight distributions obtained from gel permeation chromatographic analysis of the copolymers are coherent with the materials being copolymeric in nature. The copolymer microstructure was fully elucidated by means of 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry shows an increase of glass transition temperature (Tg) with the amount of 4MPD in the copolymers with butadiene and isoprene, while in the copolymers with styrene Tg is increased on increasing the amount of styrene. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

This article reports the synthesis and characterization of four arm star‐shaped poly(styrene‐b‐[(butadiene)1?x‐(ethylene‐co‐butylene)x]‐b‐styrene) (SBEBS) copolymers. A series of SBEBS copolymers with different compositions of the elastomeric block were produced by hydrogenating a given poly(styrene‐b‐butadiene‐b‐styrene) (SBS) copolymer using a catalyst prepared from bis(η5‐cyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV) dichloride and n‐butyllithium. The characterization was accomplished by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results indicate that there is a selective saturation of the polybutadiene block over the polystyrene block; this selectivity was determined by the Ti/Li molar ratio and the concentration of Ti. It was observed that the saturation rate of the 1,2‐vinyl was higher than that of the 1,4‐trans and 1,4‐cis poly(butadiene)‐b isomers. The DSC and DMA results indicate that the degree of hydrogenation had a profound effect on the polymer's relaxation behavior. All samples exhibited a biphasic system behavior with two distinct transitions corresponding to the elastomeric and polystyrene blocks. SBEBS copolymers with higher saturation levels (>33%) exhibited a crystalline character. The TGA results indicated a characteristic weight loss temperature in all samples, with slightly higher thermal degradation stabilities in the materials with higher degrees of saturation. POLYM. ENG. Syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) was synthesized with a novel monotitanocene complex of η5‐pentamethylcyclopentadienyltri‐4‐methoxyphenoxy titanium [Cp*Ti(OC6H4OCH3)3] activated by methylaluminoxane (MAO) in different polymerization media, including heptane, toluene, chlorobenzene, and neat styrene. In all cases bulk polymerization produced sPS with the highest activity and molecular weight. Solution polymerization produced much better activity in heptane than in the other solvents. Using a solvent with a higher dipole moment, such as chlorobenzene resulted in lower activity and syndiotacticity because of the stronger coordination of solvent with the Ti(III) active species, which controlled syndiospecific polymerization of styrene. With bulk polymerization at a higher polymerization temperature the Cp*Ti(OC6H4OCH3)3–MAO catalyst produced sPS with high catalytic activity and molecular weight. The external addition of triisobutylaluminum (TIBA) to the Cp*Ti(OC6H4OCH3)3–MAO system catalyzing styrene polymerization led to significant improvement of activity at a lower Al:Ti molar ratio, while the syndiotacticity and molecular weight of the yields were little affected. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of nonbridged (cyclopentadienyl) (aryloxy)titanium(IV) complexes of the type, (η5‐Cp′)(OAr)TiCl2 [OAr = O‐2,4,6‐tBu3C6H2 and Cp′ = Me5C5 ( 1 ), Me4PhC5 ( 2 ), and 1,2‐Ph2‐4‐MeC5H2 ( 3 )], were prepared and used for the copolymerization of ethylene with α‐olefins (e.g., 1‐hexene, 1‐octene, and 1‐octadecene) in presence of AliBu3 and Ph3CB(C6F5)4 (TIBA/B). The effect of the catalyst structure, comonomer, and reaction conditions on the catalytic activity, comonomer incorporation, and molecular weight of the produced copolymers was examined. The substituents on the cyclopentadienyl group of the ligand in 1 – 3 play an important role in the catalytic activity and comonomer incorporation. The 1 /TIBA/B catalyst system exhibits the highest catalytic activity, while the 3 /TIBA/B catalyst system yields copolymers with the highest comonomer incorporation under the same conditions. The reactivity ratio product values are smaller than those by ordinary metallocene type, which indicates that the copolymerization of ethylene with 1‐hexene, 1‐octene, and 1‐octadecene by the 1–3/ TIBA/B catalyst systems does not proceed in a random manner. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Phthaldialdehyde and phthaldiketone were treated with substituted phenols of 2‐amino‐4‐methylphenol, 2‐amino‐5‐methylphenol and 2‐amino‐4‐t‐butylphenol, respectively, and then treated with transition metal halides of TiCl4, ZrCl4 and YCl3. A series of novel non‐metallocene catalysts (1–12) with phenoxy‐imine ligands was obtained. The structures and properties of the catalysts were characterized by 1H NMR and elemental analysis. The catalysts (1–12) were used to promote ethylene (co‐)polymerization after activation by methylaluminoxane. The effects of the structures and center atoms (Ti, Zr and Y) of these catalysts, polymerization temperature, Al/M (M = Ti, Zr and Y) molar ratio, concentration of the catalysts and solvents on the polymerization performance were investigated. The results showed that the catalysts were favorable for ethylene homopolymerization and copolymerization of ethylene with 1‐hexene. Catalyst 10 is most favorable for catalyzing ethylene homopolymerization and copolymerization of ethylene with 1‐hexene, with catalytic activity up to 2.93 × 106 gPE (mol Y)?1 h?1 for polyethylene (PE) and 2.96 × 106 gPE (mol Y)?1 h?1 for copolymerization of ethylene with 1‐hexene under the following conditions: polymerization temperature 50 °C, Al/Y molar ratio 300, concentration of catalyst 1.0 × 10?4 L?1 and toluene as solvent. The structures and properties of the polymers obtained were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 13C NMR, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, gel permeation chromatography and DSC. The results indicated that the obtained PE catalyzed by 4 had the highest melting point of 134.8 °C and the highest weight‐average molecular weight of 7.48 × 105 g mol?1. The copolymer catalyzed by 4 had the highest incorporation of 1‐hexene, up to 5.26 mol%, into the copolymer chain. © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The pervaporation performances of a series of functionalized syndiotactic poly(styrene‐co‐4‐methylstyrene) (SPSM) membranes for various alcohol mixtures were investigated. The syndiotactic polystyrene copolymers, poly(styrene‐co‐4‐methylstyrene) (SPSM), were prepared by styrene with 4‐methylstyrene using a Cp*Ti(OCH3)3/methyl aluminoxane (metallocene/MAO) catalyst. The effect of functionalization on the thermal properties and polymer structure of the SPSM membranes were also investigated. The crystallinity of the functionalized SPSM membrane is lower than that of the unfunctionalized SPSM membranes. The water molecules preferentially permeate through the SPSM membranes. Compared with unfunctionalized SPSM membranes, the functionalized SPSM membrane effectively increases the membrane formation performances and the pervaporation performances. The optimun pervaporation performance (a separation factor of 510 and permeation rate of 220 g/m2h) was obtained by the bromination of SPSM (SPSMBr) membrane with a 90 wt % aqueous ethanol solution. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The copolymerization of ethylene and substituted styrenes [RSt's; p‐methylstyrene (MSt), ptert‐butylstyrene (BSt), 2‐vinylnaphthalene (VN), and p‐(tert‐butyldimethylsilyloxy)styrene (BMSiOSt)] were investigated with dimethylsilylene(tetramethylcyclopentadienyl)(Ntert‐butyl)titanium dichloride to yield the corresponding ethylene–RSt copolymers. The substituent on the styrene (St) monomers did not affect the monomer reactivity ratio. The effect of the substituent structure of RSt on the thermal and mechanical properties was studied with differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical thermal spectroscopy, and elongation testing. The glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of the copolymers increased with increasing RSt content, and the order of Tg was as follows: BSt > VN > MSt = St. A copolymer with p‐hydroxystyrene (HOSt) was successively synthesized by means of deprotection of the copolymer with BMSiOSt. The copolymer showed a much higher Tg than the other copolymers because of the hydrogen connection of its OH groups. The mechanical properties of the copolymer in the glass state, at a lower temperature than Tg, were almost independent of the nature of the RSt. The substituent of the St monomers affected the pattern of the stress–strain curve in the elongation testing in the amorphous state. An improvement in the shape memory effect was observed in poly(ethylene‐co‐BSt). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008  相似文献

Copolymerizations of butadiene (Bd) with styrene (St) were carried out with catalytic systems composed of a rare‐earth compound, Mg(n‐Bu)2 (di‐n‐butyl magnesium) and halohydrocarbon. Of all the rare earth catalysts examined, Nd(P507)3–Mg(n‐Bu)2–CHCl3 showed a high activity in the copolymerization under certain conditions: [Bd] = [St] = 1.8 mol l?1, [Nd] = 6.0 × 10?3 mol l?1, Mg/Nd = 10, Cl/Nd = 10 (molar ratio), ageing for 2 h, copolymerization at 50 °C for 6–20 h. The copolymer of butadiene and styrene obtained has a relatively high styrene content (10–30 mol%), cis‐1,4 content in butadiene unit (85–90%), and molecular weight ([η] = 0.8–1 dL g?1). Monomer reactivity ratios were estimated to be rBd = 36 and rSt = 0.36 in the copolymerization. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A series of poly(5,5‐dimethyl‐1,3‐dioxan‐2‐one)‐block‐methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (PDTC‐b‐mPEG) copolymers were synthesized by the ring‐opening polymerization of 5,5‐dimethyl‐1,3‐dioxan‐2‐one (DTC) in bulk, using methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG) as initiator without adding any catalysts. The resulting copolymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra, 1H NMR and gel permeation chromatography. The influences of some factors such as the DTC/mPEG molar feed ratio, reaction time and reaction temperature on the copolymerization were investigated. The experimental results showed that mPEG could effectively initiate the ring‐opening polymerization of DTC in the absence of catalyst, and that the copolymerization conditions had a significant effect on the molecular weight of PDTC‐b‐mPEG copolymer. In vitro drug release study demonstrated that the amount of indomethacin released from PDTC‐b‐mPEG copolymer decreased with increase in the DTC content in the copolymer. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS)/montmorillonite nanocomposites were prepared via in situ intercalative coordination polymerization using mono‐(η5‐pentamethylcyclopenta‐ dienyl) tribenzyloxy titanium [Cp*Ti(OBz)3] complex activated by methylaluminoxanes (MAO) and triisobutylaluminum (TIBA). The influences of polymerization conditions, such as the weight ratio of montmorillonite and styrene, temperature, and monomer concentration, on the preparation of sPS/montmorillonite nanocomposites was investigated. The intercalation spacing in the nanocomposites, as well as the exfoliation of the montmorillonite interlayers, was characterized with wide angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The dispersibility of the nanoscale elements depended on the polymerization conditions and the surfactant treatment. The crystallizability and thermal properties of these nanocomposites were determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Experimental results indicated that the degree of crystallinity of the sPS nanocomposite increased with increasing montmorillonite content and with higher Tg and thermal decomposition temperature than pure sPS. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ferrocene‐substituted conducting polymer namely poly(trans‐1‐(4‐methyl‐3′‐thienyl)‐2‐(ferrocenyl)ethene‐co‐3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) [P(MTFE‐co‐EDOT)] was synthesized and its electrochromic properties were studied. Monomer, MTFE, was obtained using 2‐(ferrocenyl)ethene and 3‐methyl‐4‐bromothiophene. The structure of monomer was determined via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR techniques. The copolymer was synthesized using this monomer and EDOT. The resulting copolymer P(MTFE‐co‐EDOT) was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, FTIR, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and UV–vis spectroscopy. The conductivity measurements of copolymer and PEDOT were accomplished by the four‐probe technique. Although poly(trans‐1‐(4‐methyl‐3′‐thienyl)‐2‐(ferrocenyl)ethene) [P(MTFE)] reveals no electrochromic activity, its copolymer with EDOT has two different colors (violet and gray). Band gap (Eg) and λmax of P(MTFE‐co‐EDOT) were determined. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

The copolymerization of ethylene and 1,7‐octadiene was carried out to synthesize polyethylene with unreacted vinyl groups. The prepared copolymer [poly (ethylene‐co‐1,7‐octadiene) (PEOD)] was epoxidized with peracetic acid, m‐chloroperbenzoic acid, or formic acid/H2O2. Of these, peracetic acid gave the best results. Epoxidized PEOD was subjected to a reaction with 2‐mercaptobenzimidazole and poly(L ‐lactic acid). The bromination of PEOD was also performed in the presence of a Br2/HBr solution at room temperature. The brominated poly(ethylene‐co‐1,7‐octadiene) (PEOD‐Br) was used as a macroinitiator for atom transfer radical polymerization. The polymerization of styrene, butyl methacrylate, and glycidyl methacrylate was performed in bulk or solution at 120°C with a PEOD‐Br/CuBr/2,2′‐dipyridyl initiator system. The thermal properties of the graft copolymers and the efficiency of the graft polymerization were investigated. These graft copolymers have potential applications as interfacial modifiers. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008  相似文献

A strategy is introduced for the synthesis of polyethylene‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) block copolymers by a combination of coordination polymerization and ring‐opening polymerization. First, end‐hydroxylated polyethylene (PE‐OH) was prepared with a one‐step process through ethylene/3‐buten‐1‐ol copolymerization catalyzed by a vanadium(III) complex bearing a bidentate [N,O] ligand ([PhN?C(CH3)CHC(Ph)O]VCl2(THF)2). The PE‐OH was then used as macroinitiator for ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone, leading to the desired nonpolar/polar diblock copolymers. The block structure was confirmed by spectral analysis using 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography and differential scanning calorimetry. The unusual topologies of the model copolymers will establish a fundamental understanding for structure–property correlations, e.g. compatibilization, of polymer blends and surface and interface modification of other polymers. © 2014 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A polymeric alloy (SP–A) containing syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS), atactic polypropylene (aPP), and about 66 wt % sPS‐b‐aPP diblock copolymer, was prepared by the sequential feed of monomers in the presence of the half‐titanocene Cp*Ti(OBz)3 (where Cp* is C5Me5 and Bz is PhCH2), modified methylaluminoxane, and external triisobutylaluminum. The effects of the SP–A alloy as a compatibilizer for sPS and isotactic polypropylene (iPP) blends were evaluated. The blending of sPS and iPP, with and without SP–A, was performed in a single‐screw miniextruder with a side channel that allowed the continuous recycling of materials. The influence of SP–A on the mechanical and thermal properties of the immiscible sPS/iPP blends was investigated over a range of composition. The presence of the SP–A alloy resulted in a significant improvement of the impact strength of the blends compared with that of pure sPS and their pure blends. This improvement was particularly obvious in the sPS/iPP (90/10 wt %) blend containing 5 wt % SP–A. Morphological analysis of the impact‐fractured surface of the ternary blends indicated that the sPS‐b‐aPP diblock copolymer contained in the SP–A alloy acted as an efficient compatibilizer by decreasing the dispersed‐phase iPP particle size, improving the interfacial adhesion, and generating a stable microphase‐separated state. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new strategy for graft copolymerization of thiophene onto a polystyrene (PSt) backbone by a multi‐step process is suggested and the effects of an organoclay on the final properties of the graft copolymer sample are described. For this purpose, first poly(styrene‐co‐4‐chloromethyl styrene) [P(St‐co‐CMSt)] was synthesized via nitroxide‐mediated polymerization. Afterwards, the chlorine groups of P(St‐co‐CMSt) were converted to thiophene groups using the Kumada cross‐coupling reaction and thiophene‐functionalized PSt multicenter macromonomer (ThPStM) was synthesized. The graft copolymerization of thiophene monomers onto PSt was initiated by oxidized thiophene groups in the PSt chains after addition of ferric chloride (FeCl3), an oxidative catalyst for polythiophene synthesis, and FeCl3‐doped polythiophene was chemically grafted onto PSt chains via oxidation polymerization. The graft copolymer obtained was characterized by 1H NMR and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and its electroactivity behavior was verified under cyclic voltammetric conditions. Finally, PSt‐g‐PTh/montmorillonite nanocomposite was prepared by a solution intercalation method. The level of dispersion of organoclay and the microstructure of the resulting nanocomposite were probed by means of XRD and transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the addition of only a small amount of organoclay (5 wt%) was enough to improve the thermal stabilities of the nanocomposite.© 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The copolymerization of styrene with ethylene was promoted by CpTiCl3/BDGE/Zn/MAO catalyst system combining free radical polymerization with coordination polymerization via sequential monomer addition strategy in one‐pot. The effect of polymerization conditions such as temperature, time, ethylene pressure, and Al/Ti molar ratio on the polymerization performance was investigated. The hydroxy‐functionalized aPS‐b‐random copolymer‐b‐PE triblock copolymer was obtained by solvent extraction and determined by GPC, DSC, WAXD, and 13C‐NMR. The DSC result indicated that the aPS‐b‐random copolymer‐b‐PE had a Tg at 87°C and a Tm at 119°C which attributed to the Tg of aPS segment and the Tm of PE segment, respectively. The microstructure of the hydroxy‐functionalized aPS‐b‐random copolymer‐b‐PE was further confirmed by WAXD, 13C‐NMR, and 1H‐NMR analysis; and these results demonstrated that the obtained block copolymer consisted of aPS segment, S‐E random copolymer segment, and crystalline PE segment. The connection polymerization of the hydroxy‐functionalized aPS with random copolymer‐b‐PE was revealed by GPC results. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

A chiral stationary phase (CSP) with poly[styrene‐b‐cellulose 2,3‐bis(3,5‐dimethylphenylcarbamate)] was synthesized by the surface‐initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI‐ATRP) of cellulose 2,3‐bis(3,5‐dimethylphenylcarbamate)‐6‐acrylate after the SI‐ATRP of styrene on the surface of silicon dioxide supports in pyridine. The successful preparation of the CSP with poly[styrene‐b‐cellulose 2,3‐bis(3,5‐dimethylphenylcarbamate)] was confirmed via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermal analysis. The applicability for the chiral resolution of the CSP with poly[styrene‐b‐cellulose 2,3‐bis(3,5‐diphenylcarbamate)] was evaluated with high‐performance liquid chromatography with 10 racemates under various mobile phases of hexane/alcohol, hexane/tetrahydrofuran (THF), and hexane/chloroform. The results show that the CSP with poly[styrene‐b‐cellulose 2,3‐bis(3,5‐diphenylcarbamate)] could be used in THF and chloroform as eluents. The chiral resolutions of the commercial Chiracel OD, the CSP with cellulose 2,3‐bis(3,5‐dimethylphenylcarabmate), and the CSP with poly[styrene‐b‐cellulose 2,3‐bis(3,5‐dimethylphenylcarbamate)] prepared by SI‐ATRP were examined. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, 1‐octene and styrene was copolymerized by the supported catalyst (TiCl4/ID/MgCl2). Subsequently, by sulfonation reaction, sulfonated poly(1‐octene‐co‐styrene)s which were amphiphilic copolymers were prepared. The copolymerization behavior between 1‐octene and styrene is moderate ideal behavior. Copolymers prepared by this catalyst contain appreciable amounts of both 1‐octene and styrene. Increase in the feed ratio of styrene/1‐octene leads to increase in styrene content in copolymer and decrease in molecular weight. As the polymerization temperature increases, the styrene content in the copolymers increases, however, the molecular weight decreases. Hydrogen is an efficient regulator to lower the molecular weights of poly(1‐octene‐co‐styrene)s. The sulfonation degree of the sulfonated poly(1‐octene‐co‐styrene)s increased as the styrene content in copolymer increased or the molecular weight decreased. Thirty‐six hour is long enough for sulfonation reaction. The sulfonated poly(1‐octene‐co‐styrene)s can be used as effective and durable modifying agent to improve the wettability of polyethylene film and have potential application in emulsified fuels and for the stabilization of dispersions. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
