In this work, a hybrid control scheme, uniting bounded control with model predictive control (MPC), is proposed for the stabilization of linear time-invariant systems with input constraints. The scheme is predicated upon the idea of switching between a model predictive controller, that minimizes a given performance objective subject to constraints, and a bounded controller, for which the region of constrained closed-loop stability is explicitly characterized. Switching laws, implemented by a logic-based supervisor that constantly monitors the plant, are derived to orchestrate the transition between the two controllers in a way that safeguards against any possible instability or infeasibility under MPC, reconciles the stability and optimality properties of both controllers, and guarantees asymptotic closed-loop stability for all initial conditions within the stability region of the bounded controller. The hybrid control scheme is shown to provide, irrespective of the chosen MPC formulation, a safety net for the practical implementation of MPC, for open-loop unstable plants, by providing a priori knowledge, through off-line computations, of a large set of initial conditions for which closed-loop stability is guaranteed. The implementation of the proposed approach is illustrated, through numerical simulations, for an exponentially unstable linear system.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a model predictive control (MPC) algorithm for switched nonlinear systems under average dwell-time switching signals. Assuming that a stabilizing MPC controller exists for each of the subsystems, we show that recursive feasibility of the repeatedly solved optimal control problem and asymptotic stability of the closed-loop switched system can be established if a certain average dwell-time condition is satisfied. If the switching times are unknown a priori and cannot be detected instantly, the MPC controller calculated for the previously active subsystem might not be stabilizing for the newly activated subsystem, thus possibly leading to an unstable closed-loop system. It is shown that if the switches can be detected fast enough, then still ultimate boundedness in an arbitrarily small region around the origin can be ensured, i.e., the proposed MPC algorithm is inherently practically robust with respect to small errors in the detection of the switching times. Finally, we apply our results to a continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR) with two different modes of operation.  相似文献

In this work, a predictive control framework is proposed for the constrained stabilization of switched nonlinear systems that transit between their constituent modes at prescribed switching times. The main idea is to design a Lyapunov-based predictive controller for each constituent mode in which the switched system operates and incorporate constraints in the predictive controller design which upon satisfaction ensure that the prescribed transitions between the modes occur in a way that guarantees stability of the switched closed-loop system. This is achieved as follows: For each constituent mode, a Lyapunov-based model predictive controller (MPC) is designed, and an analytic bounded controller, using the same Lyapunov function, is used to explicitly characterize a set of initial conditions for which the MPC, irrespective of the controller parameters, is guaranteed to be feasible, and hence stabilizing. Then, constraints are incorporated in the MPC design which, upon satisfaction, ensure that: 1) the state of the closed-loop system, at the time of the transition, resides in the stability region of the mode that the system is switched into, and 2) the Lyapunov function for each mode is nonincreasing wherever the mode is reactivated, thereby guaranteeing stability. The proposed control method is demonstrated through application to a chemical process example.  相似文献

This article presents a new form of robust distributed model predictive control (MPC) for multiple dynamically decoupled subsystems, in which distributed control agents exchange plans to achieve satisfaction of coupling constraints. The new method offers greater flexibility in communications than existing robust methods, and relaxes restrictions on the order in which distributed computations are performed. The local controllers use the concept of tube MPC – in which an optimisation designs a tube for the system to follow rather than a trajectory – to achieve robust feasibility and stability despite the presence of persistent, bounded disturbances. A methodical exploration of the trades between performance and communication is provided by numerical simulations of an example scenario. It is shown that at low levels of inter-agent communication, distributed MPC can obtain a lower closed-loop cost than that obtained by a centralised implementation. A further example shows that the flexibility in communications means the new algorithm has a relatively low susceptibility to the adverse effects of delays in computation and communication.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a tube-based economic MPC framework for nonlinear systems subject to unknown but bounded disturbances. Instead of simply transferring the design procedure of tube-based stabilizing MPC to an economic MPC framework, we rather propose to consider the influence of the disturbance explicitly within the design of the MPC controller, which can lead to an improved closed-loop average performance. This will be done by using a specifically defined integral stage cost, which is the key feature of our proposed robust economic MPC algorithm. Furthermore, we show that the algorithm enjoys similar properties as a nominal economic MPC algorithm (i.e., without disturbances), in particular with respect to bounds on the asymptotic average performance of the resulting closed-loop system, as well as stability and optimal steady-state operation.  相似文献

On hybrid systems and closed-loop MPC systems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The following five classes of hybrid systems were recently proven to be equivalent: linear complementarity, extended linear complementarity, mixed logical dynamical systems, piecewise affine systems and max-min-plus-scaling systems. Some of the equivalences were obtained under additional assumptions, such as boundedness of certain system variables. In this paper, for linear or hybrid plants in closed-loop with a model predictive control (MPC) controller based on a linear model fulfilling linear constraints on input and state variables and utilizing a quadratic cost criterion, we provide a simple and direct proof that the closed-loop system is a subclass of any of the former five classes of hybrid systems. This result is of extreme importance, as it opens up the use of tools developed for the mentioned hybrid model classes, such as (robust) stability and safety analysis tools, to study closed-loop properties of MPC  相似文献

In the recent paper [Limon, D., Alvarado, I., Alamo, T., & Camacho, E.F. (2008). MPC for tracking of piece-wise constant references for constrained linear systems. Automatica, 44, 2382-2387], a novel predictive control technique for tracking changing target operating points has been proposed. Asymptotic stability of any admissible equilibrium point is achieved by adding an artificial steady state and input as decision variables, specializing the terminal conditions and adding an offset cost function to the functional. In this paper, the closed-loop performance of this controller is studied and it is demonstrated that the offset cost function plays an important role in the performance of the model predictive control (MPC) for tracking. Firstly, the controller formulation has been enhanced by considering a convex, positive definite and subdifferential function as the offset cost function. Then it is demonstrated that this formulation ensures convergence to an equilibrium point which minimizes the offset cost function. Thus, in case of target operation points which are not reachable steady states or inputs for the constrained system, the proposed control law steers the system to an admissible steady state (different to the target) which is optimal with relation to the offset cost function. Therefore, the offset cost function plays the role of a steady-state target optimizer which is built into the controller. On the other hand, optimal performance of the MPC for tracking is studied and it is demonstrated that under some conditions on both the offset and the terminal cost functions optimal closed-loop performance is locally achieved.  相似文献

We propose a novel way for sampled-data implementation (with the zero order hold assumption) of continuous-time controllers for general nonlinear systems. We assume that a continuous-time controller has been designed so that the continuous-time closed-loop satisfies all performance requirements. Then, we use this control law indirectly to compute numerically a sampled-data controller. Our approach exploits a model predictive control (MPC) strategy that minimizes the mismatch between the solutions of the sampled-data model and the continuous-time closed-loop model. We propose a control law and present conditions under which stability and sub-optimality of the closed loop can be proved. We only consider the case of unconstrained MPC. We show that the recent results in [G. Grimm, M.J. Messina, A.R. Teel, S. Tuna, Model predictive control: for want of a local control Lyapunov function, all is not lost, IEEE Trans. Automat. Control 2004, to appear] can be directly used for analysis of stability of our closed-loop system.  相似文献

In this paper we consider discrete-time nonlinear systems that are affected, possibly simultaneously, by parametric uncertainties and other disturbance inputs. The min–max model predictive control (MPC) methodology is employed to obtain a controller that robustly steers the state of the system towards a desired equilibrium. The aim is to provide a priori sufficient conditions for robust stability of the resulting closed-loop system using the input-to-state stability (ISS) framework. First, we show that only input-to-state practical stability can be ensured in general for closed-loop min–max MPC systems; and we provide explicit bounds on the evolution of the closed-loop system state. Then, we derive new conditions for guaranteeing ISS of min–max MPC closed-loop systems, using a dual-mode approach. An example illustrates the presented theory.  相似文献

A fundamental question about model predictive control (MPC) is its robustness to model uncertainty. In this paper, we present a robust constrained output feedback MPC algorithm that can stabilize plants with both polytopic uncertainty and norm-bound uncertainty. The design procedure involves off-line design of a robust constrained state feedback MPC law and a state estimator using linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Since we employ an off-line approach for the controller design which gives a sequence of explicit control laws, we are able to analyze the robust stabilizability of the combined control laws and estimator, and by adjusting the design parameters, guarantee robust stability of the closed-loop system in the presence of constraints. The algorithm is illustrated with two examples.  相似文献

A predictive control strategy for vehicle platoons is presented in this paper, accommodating both string stability and constraints (e.g., physical and safety) satisfaction. In the proposed design procedure, the two objectives are achieved by matching a model predictive controller (MPC), enforcing constraints satisfaction, with a linear controller designed to guarantee string stability. The proposed approach neatly combines the straightforward design of a string stable controller in the frequency domain, where a considerable number of approaches have been proposed in literature, with the capability of an MPC-based controller enforcing state and input constraints.A controller obtained with the proposed design procedure is validated both in simulations and in the field test, showing how string stability and constraints satisfaction can be simultaneously achieved with a single controller. The operating region that the MPC controller is string stable is characterized by the interior of feasible set of the MPC controller.  相似文献

Model predictive control (MPC) is one of the few techniques which is able to handle constraints on both state and input of the plant. The admissible evolution and asymptotic convergence of the closed-loop system is ensured by means of suitable choice of the terminal cost and terminal constraint. However, most of the existing results on MPC are designed for a regulation problem. If the desired steady-state changes, the MPC controller must be redesigned to guarantee the feasibility of the optimisation problem, the admissible evolution as well as the asymptotic stability. Recently, a novel MPC has been proposed to ensure the feasibility of the optimisation problem, constraints satisfaction and asymptotic evolution of the system to any admissible target steady-state. A drawback of this controller is the loss of a desirable property of the MPC controllers: the local optimality property. In this article, a novel formulation of the MPC for tracking is proposed aimed to recover the optimality property maintaining all the properties of the original formulation.  相似文献

In spite of its easy implementation, ability to handle constraints and nonlinearities, etc., model predictive control (MPC) does have drawbacks including tuning difficulties. In this paper, we propose a refinement to the basic MPC strategy by incorporating a tuning parameter such that one can move smoothly from an existing controller to a new MPC strategy. Each change of this tuning parameter leads to a new stabilising control law, therefore, allowing one to gradually move from an existing control law to a new and better one. For the infinite horizon case without constraints and for the general case with state and input constraints, stability results are established. We also examine the practical applicability of the proposed approach by employing it in the nominal prediction model of the tube-based output feedback robust MPC method. The merits of the proposed method are illustrated by examples.  相似文献

This paper presents a new model predictive control (MPC) method that provides robust feasibility with tractable, real-time computation. The method optimizes the closed-loop system dynamics, which involves models of the process (with parametric uncertainty) and controller at each step in the prediction horizon. Such problems are often formulated as a multi-stage stochastic program that suffers from the curse of dimensionality. This paper presents an alternative formulation that yields a bilevel stochastic optimization problem that is transformed by a series of reformulation steps into a tractable problem such that it can be solved through a limited number of second order cone programming sub-problems. The method addresses robust feasibility, manipulated saturation, state and output soft constraints, exogenous and endogenous uncertainty, and uncertainty in the state estimation in an integrated manner. Case study results demonstrate the advantages of the proposed robust MPC over nominal MPC and several other robust MPC formulations.  相似文献

This paper is mainly concerned with the model predictive control (MPC) of networked control systems (NCSs) with uncertain time delay and data packets disorder. The network-induced time delay is described as bounded and arbitrary process. For the usual state feedback controller, by considering all the possibilities of delays, an augmented state space model of the closed-loop system, which characterizes all the delay cases, is obtained. The stability conditions are given according to the Lyapunov method based on this augmented model. The stability property is inherited in MPC which explicitly considers the physical constraints. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed MPC.  相似文献
