This paper describes recent technical challenges and the progress toward the realization of the optical transport network (OTN) based on 43 Gb/s channel. We describe the new digital frame format "OTU3: Optical Channel Transport Unit 3," which is standardized in ITU-T for OTN, for the enhancement of the network management capability in the OTN based on 43-Gb/s channels. We first proposed 43-Gb/s/ch dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) dispersion-managed transmission system using carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (CS-RZ) format that has several attractive features; it advances the evolution of OTN into 100 GHz-spaced long-haul DWDM transport networks. The first wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) field trials confirmed the superiority of CS-RZ format in the DWDM transmission performance for the first time. The first 1 Tb/s (25 /spl times/ 43 Gb/s) WDM field trial confirmed the excellent network management capability of OTU3 in future data-centric OTN using the newly developed 43-Gb/s OTN line-terminal prototype.  相似文献

We review recent progress and the future of 40-Gbit/s electrical time division multiplexed (ETDM) channel technologies for the optical transport network (OTN), where optical technologies, including high-speed ETDM channel transmission and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), dramatically enhance network flexibility while reducing transport node cost as well as transmission cost. The 40 Gbit/s channel has recently been specified to be one of the optical channels in OTN. A new digital frame for the optical channels [optical channel transport unit (OTU)] was introduced for the network node interface of OTN in International Telecommunication Union-Telecommunication (ITU-T) standard. The specified data bit rates are 2.7 Gbit/s (OTU1), 10.7 Gbit/s (OTU2), and 43.0 Gbit/s (OTU3). These OTU frames have additional overhead bytes that support the network management overhead for OTN and out-of-band forward error correcting (FEC) codes. We discuss the feasibility and impact of the OTU3 frame in terrestrial networks. A newly developed 43-Gbit/s OTN line terminal prototype that confirms the feasibility of 43-Gbit/s ETDM channels and the OTU3 management capability is discussed. As a guide to the evolution of OTN, modulation formats for 43Gbit/s-based DWDM transmission are described for long distance application with the total capacity over one terabit per second.  相似文献

针对G.654.E光纤即将商用于超100 Gbit/s OTN系统而无相应规范标准的问题,本文首先利用香农定理和光信噪比公式理论分析传输速率的受制因素,接着分析OTN系统的最大光放段损耗值中的中继段损耗、活接头损耗和色散补偿光纤插损,然后推算出G.654.E光纤承载超100 Gbit/s OTN系统中不同传输速率下的复用段距离,并与实际测试值进行对比分析,最后结合骨干网络现状情况,提出G.654.E光纤承载超100 Gbit/s OTN技术应用建议。  相似文献

Optical systems and technologies have been radically changing the telecommunication networks for past 15 years; today wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology, optical amplifiers, and simple optical switching elements like optical add-drop multiplexers (OADMs) are used in the backbone networks of all operators worldwide. Optical systems nowadays provide the basis for cost-effective transmission of large amounts of bandwidth over the Internet, and will enable its future growth and the spreading of new applications and services. This paper summarizes the main trends in optical networking and investigates potential future application areas. Optical system technology has become so pervasive in network design that it needs to be considered in the context of provisioning new applications and services. Therefore, the analysis is not limited to the aspects of physical transmission, but also takes into account recent developments in integrated network design as well as network control and management. The following sections describe the key functionalities of future optical network architectures, and the key findings of the theoretical analysis are supported by the results of a field trial of advanced transmission technology.  相似文献

The optical transport network (OTN) based on 43-Gb/s channels is expected to be the carriers' next-generation core network. This paper discusses its system architecture, from the requirements of services, protection, and management, and shows a feasible scenario to ensure the rapid penetration of the 43-Gb/s-based OTN. It also describes the design concept and functions of the first 43-Gb/s OTN line terminal. The line terminal deploys time-division multiplexing to handle client signals and provides high-quality, multiple transparent services, such as synchronous optical network/synchronous digital hierarchy and gigabit Ethernet. 在三网融合形势下,多媒体业务与数据传输需求不断增加,对传统骨干传输网络提出更高的要求。传统的基于WDM、SHD技术的光纤通信网络虽可满足传输容量需求,但存在成本较高、扩展和调度能力差、业务多样化能力弱等问题,不能进行有效的组网,难以满足未来发展的需要,因此选用新一代的OTN技术进行组网成为发展的必然趋势。通过相关资料研究,结合工作实践经验,对OTN技术的特点、OTN在光通信网络中的组网方式进行总结分析,以期促进OTN技术的应用与发展。  相似文献
