Laser Beam Machining of Porous Woodceramics   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Laser beam machining was tested as a practical method for machining porous woodceramics (WCS). A black carbonized layer is generally formed on the processed surface when woody materials are processed with laser beam machining. This problem does not occur on the WCS because they are burned. The processed surface temperature during laser beam machining can be estimated from the relationship between the burning temperature and C and O2 component concentrations. Burning (scorching) on the processed surface decreases slightly as the feed speed of the workpiece increases. WCS are more easily processed with laser machining after being burned, using pulse oscillation to reduce the thermal influence.  相似文献

Ductile-Regime Machining of Germanium and Silicon   总被引:22,自引:0,他引:22  
Precision machining of germanium and silicon was studied using single-point diamond turning. Special attention was directed to the so-called ductile regime wherein optical quality surface finishes can be machined directly on brittle materials. A novel interrupted-cutting test and a new model of the machining process were used to measure a critical-depth parameter experimentally. This parameter governs the transition from plastic flow to fracture along the tool nose. The critical-depth parameter can be used to provide physical insight into the effect of various machining parameters such as tool rake angle or tool clearnace angle. Because of a complex interplay between tool geometry, machining parameters, and material response, a large fraction of material removal occurs by fracture even when ductile-regime conditions are achieved.  相似文献

Although the high hardness and chemical stability of cubic boron nitride (cBN) complicate its machining, the mass decrease of cBN in a steam environment at high temperature has been reported. In this study, we investigated hydrothermal-reaction-assisted laser drilling of cBN in various environments. A single-crystalline cBN grain, binder-containing sintered cBN, and binderless sintered cBN were irradiated with an Ar ion laser in water and steam, and in gas atmospheres. The cBN reacted with water, and NH4+ or NH4+-N and boric acid were produced. Hydrothermal-reaction-assisted machining was not effective for binder-containing sintered cBN, but was effective for single-crystalline cBN and binderless sintered cBN.  相似文献

Increasing the current, the frequency, or the pulse duration up to certain values increased the speed of cutting and rate of removal. The amount of liquid smearing the cavities prcduced by dislodging the WC grain and microcracks increased with increasing cobalt content and/or WC grain size. Depletion of carbon and formation of W2C and WC1−x were detected on the surface. An analysis of debris showed that, in addition to melting the cobalt matrix, metallic vapors are formed and condense to hollow noncrystalline spheres which deformed and condense to hollow noncrystalline spheres which deform and crystallize if crushed.  相似文献

Based on previous work, the material properties of zirconium disilicide containing net-shape ceramic compositions are adjusted to minimize the edge flaking that occurs during micromilling of the green bodies. The material compositions (besides ZrSi2, also containing ZrO2, Al2O3, MgO, SiO2, and a polysorbate) are granulated and axially dry pressed to pellets, which are wet milled with a 0.5-mm-diameter tool. The structure's edge flaking is quantitatively determined and compared with previous results. The mechanical properties of the green and sintered bodies are also characterized. The strengths of the green bodies depend on their composition and treatment. Additionally, a correlation between the Weibull moduli of the green compacts and the moduli of the sintered parts is shown. For the sintered ceramics, Weibull strengths of up to 344 MPa can be achieved. It is also shown that the dimensional accuracy of the net-shape material is maintained.  相似文献
