Currently, the Internet of Things (IoT) is revolutionizing communication technology by facilitating the sharing of information between different physical devices connected to a network. To improve control, customization, flexibility, and reduce network maintenance costs, a new Software-Defined Network (SDN) technology must be used in this infrastructure. Despite the various advantages of combining SDN and IoT, this environment is more vulnerable to various attacks due to the centralization of control. Most methods to ensure IoT security are designed to detect Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, but they often lack mechanisms to mitigate their severity. This paper proposes a Multi-Attack Intrusion Detection System (MAIDS) for Software-Defined IoT Networks (SDN-IoT). The proposed scheme uses two machine-learning algorithms to improve detection efficiency and provide a mechanism to prevent false alarms. First, a comparative analysis of the most commonly used machine-learning algorithms to secure the SDN was performed on two datasets: the Network Security Laboratory Knowledge Discovery in Databases (NSL-KDD) and the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity Intrusion Detection Systems (CICIDS2017), to select the most suitable algorithms for the proposed scheme and for securing SDN-IoT systems. The algorithms evaluated include Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Logistic Regression (LR). Second, an algorithm for selecting the best dataset for machine learning in Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) was developed to enable effective comparison between the datasets used in the development of the security scheme. The results showed that XGBoost and RF are the best algorithms to ensure the security of SDN-IoT and to be applied in the proposed security system, with average accuracies of 99.88% and 99.89%, respectively. Furthermore, the proposed security scheme reduced the false alarm rate by 33.23%, which is a significant improvement over prevalent schemes. Finally, tests of the algorithm for dataset selection showed that the rates of false positives and false negatives were reduced when the XGBoost and RF algorithms were trained on the CICIDS2017 dataset, making it the best for IDS compared to the NSL-KDD dataset.  相似文献

Software-defined network (SDN) becomes a new revolutionary paradigm in networks because it provides more control and network operation over a network infrastructure. The SDN controller is considered as the operating system of the SDN based network infrastructure, and it is responsible for executing the different network applications and maintaining the network services and functionalities. Despite all its tremendous capabilities, the SDN face many security issues due to the complexity of the SDN architecture. Distributed denial of services (DDoS) is a common attack on SDN due to its centralized architecture, especially at the control layer of the SDN that has a network-wide impact. Machine learning is now widely used for fast detection of these attacks. In this paper, some important feature selection methods for machine learning on DDoS detection are evaluated. The selection of optimal features reflects the classification accuracy of the machine learning techniques and the performance of the SDN controller. A comparative analysis of feature selection and machine learning classifiers is also derived to detect SDN attacks. The experimental results show that the Random forest (RF) classifier trains the more accurate model with 99.97% accuracy using features subset by the Recursive feature elimination (RFE) method.  相似文献

This paper presents a comprehensive method for evaluating intrusion detection systems (IDSs). It integrates and extends ROC (receiver operating characteristic) and cost analysis methods to provide an expected cost metric. Results are given for determining the optimal operation of an IDS based on this expected cost metric. Results are given for the operation of a single IDS and for a combination of two IDSs. The method is illustrated for: 1) determining the best operating point for a single and double IDS based on the costs of mistakes and the hostility of the operating environment as represented in the prior probability of intrusion and 2) evaluating single and double IDSs on the basis of expected cost. A method is also described for representing a compound IDS as an equivalent single IDS. Results are presented from the point of view of a system administrator, but they apply equally to designers of IDSs.  相似文献

Network Intrusion Detection System (IDS) aims to maintain computer network security by detecting several forms of attacks and unauthorized uses of applications which often can not be detected by firewalls. The features selection approach plays an important role in constructing effective network IDS. Various bio-inspired metaheuristic algorithms used to reduce features to classify network traffic as abnormal or normal traffic within a shorter duration and showing more accuracy. Therefore, this paper aims to propose a hybrid model for network IDS based on hybridization bio-inspired metaheuristic algorithms to detect the generic attack. The proposed model has two objectives; The first one is to reduce the number of selected features for Network IDS. This objective was met through the hybridization of bio-inspired metaheuristic algorithms with each other in a hybrid model. The algorithms used in this paper are particle swarm optimization (PSO), multi-verse optimizer (MVO), grey wolf optimizer (GWO), moth-flame optimization (MFO), whale optimization algorithm (WOA), firefly algorithm (FFA), and bat algorithm (BAT). The second objective is to detect the generic attack using machine learning classifiers. This objective was met through employing the support vector machine (SVM), C4.5 (J48) decision tree, and random forest (RF) classifiers. UNSW-NB15 dataset used for assessing the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid model. UNSW-NB15 dataset has nine attacks type. The generic attack is the highest among them. Therefore, the proposed model aims to identify generic attacks. My data showed that J48 is the best classifier compared to SVM and RF for the time needed to build the model. In terms of features reduction for the classification, my data show that the MFO-WOA and FFA-GWO models reduce the features to 15 features with close accuracy, sensitivity and F-measure of all features, whereas MVO-BAT model reduces features to 24 features with the same accuracy, sensitivity and F-measure of all features for all classifiers.  相似文献

The extensive proliferation of modern information services and ubiquitous digitization of society have raised cybersecurity challenges to new levels. With the massive number of connected devices, opportunities for potential network attacks are nearly unlimited. An additional problem is that many low-cost devices are not equipped with effective security protection so that they are easily hacked and applied within a network of bots (botnet) to perform distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. In this paper, we propose a novel intrusion detection system (IDS) based on deep learning that aims to identify suspicious behavior in modern heterogeneous information systems. The proposed approach is based on a deep recurrent autoencoder that learns time series of normal network behavior and detects notable network anomalies. An additional feature of the proposed IDS is that it is trained with an optimized dataset, where the number of features is reduced by 94% without classification accuracy loss. Thus, the proposed IDS remains stable in response to slight system perturbations, which do not represent network anomalies. The proposed approach is evaluated under different simulation scenarios and provides a 99% detection accuracy over known datasets while reducing the training time by an order of magnitude.  相似文献

The growth of cloud in modern technology is drastic by provisioning services to various industries where data security is considered to be common issue that influences the intrusion detection system (IDS). IDS are considered as an essential factor to fulfill security requirements. Recently, there are diverse Machine Learning (ML) approaches that are used for modeling effectual IDS. Most IDS are based on ML techniques and categorized as supervised and unsupervised. However, IDS with supervised learning is based on labeled data. This is considered as a common drawback and it fails to identify the attack patterns. Similarly, unsupervised learning fails to provide satisfactory outcomes. Therefore, this work concentrates on semi-supervised learning model known as Fuzzy based semi-supervised approach through Latent Dirichlet Allocation (F-LDA) for intrusion detection in cloud system. This helps to resolve the aforementioned challenges. Initially, LDA gives better generalization ability for training the labeled data. Similarly, to handle the unlabelled data, Fuzzy model has been adopted for analyzing the dataset. Here, pre-processing has been carried out to eliminate data redundancy over network dataset. In order to validate the efficiency of F-LDA towards ID, this model is tested under NSL-KDD cup dataset is a common traffic dataset. Simulation is done in MATLAB environment and gives better accuracy while comparing with benchmark standard dataset. The proposed F-LDA gives better accuracy and promising outcomes than the prevailing approaches.  相似文献

In the era of Big data, learning discriminant feature representation from network traffic is identified has as an invariably essential task for improving the detection ability of an intrusion detection system (IDS). Owing to the lack of accurately labeled network traffic data, many unsupervised feature representation learning models have been proposed with state-of-the-art performance. Yet, these models fail to consider the classification error while learning the feature representation. Intuitively, the learnt feature representation may degrade the performance of the classification task. For the first time in the field of intrusion detection, this paper proposes an unsupervised IDS model leveraging the benefits of deep autoencoder (DAE) for learning the robust feature representation and one-class support vector machine (OCSVM) for finding the more compact decision hyperplane for intrusion detection. Specially, the proposed model defines a new unified objective function to minimize the reconstruction and classification error simultaneously. This unique contribution not only enables the model to support joint learning for feature representation and classifier training but also guides to learn the robust feature representation which can improve the discrimination ability of the classifier for intrusion detection. Three set of evaluation experiments are conducted to demonstrate the potential of the proposed model. First, the ablation evaluation on benchmark dataset, NSL-KDD validates the design decision of the proposed model. Next, the performance evaluation on recent intrusion dataset, UNSW-NB15 signifies the stable performance of the proposed model. Finally, the comparative evaluation verifies the efficacy of the proposed model against recently published state-of-the-art methods.  相似文献

Software-defined networking (SDN) represents a paradigm shift in network traffic management. It distinguishes between the data and control planes. APIs are then used to communicate between these planes. The controller is central to the management of an SDN network and is subject to security concerns. This research shows how a deep learning algorithm can detect intrusions in SDN-based IoT networks. Overfitting, low accuracy, and efficient feature selection is all discussed. We propose a hybrid machine learning-based approach based on Random Forest and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). In this study, a new dataset based specifically on Software Defined Networks is used in SDN. To obtain the best and most relevant features, a feature selection technique is used. Several experiments have revealed that the proposed solution is a superior method for detecting flow-based anomalies. The performance of our proposed model is also measured in terms of accuracy, recall, and precision. F1 rating and detection time Furthermore, a lightweight model for training is proposed, which selects fewer features while maintaining the model’s performance. Experiments show that the adopted methodology outperforms existing models.  相似文献

An IDS (intrusion detection system) provides a foremost front line mechanism to guard networks, systems, data, and information. That’s why intrusion detection has grown as an active study area and provides significant contribution to cyber-security techniques. Multiple techniques have been in use but major concern in their implementation is variation in their detection performance. The performance of IDS lies in the accurate detection of attacks, and this accuracy can be raised by improving the recognition rate and significant reduction in the false alarms rate. To overcome this problem many researchers have used different machine learning techniques. These techniques have limitations and do not efficiently perform on huge and complex data about systems and networks. This work focused on ELM (Extreme Learning Machine) technique due to its good capabilities in classification problems and dealing with huge data. The ELM has different activation functions, but the problem is to find out which function is more suitable and performs well in IDS. This work investigates this problem. Here, Well-known activation functions like: sine, sigmoid and radial basis are explored, investigated and applied to measure their performance on the GA (Genetic Algorithm) features subset and with full features set. The NSL-KDD dataset is used as a benchmark. The empirical results are analyzed, addressed and compared among different activation functions of the ELM. The results show that the radial basis and sine functions perform better on GA feature set than the full feature set while the performance of the sigmoid function is almost equal on both features sets. So, the proposal of GA based feature selection reduced 21 features out of 41 that brought up to 98% accuracy and enhanced overall efficiency of extreme learning machine in intrusion detection.  相似文献

In the design and planning of next-generation Internet of Things (IoT), telecommunication, and satellite communication systems, controller placement is crucial in software-defined networking (SDN). The programmability of the SDN controller is sophisticated for the centralized control system of the entire network. Nevertheless, it creates a significant loophole for the manifestation of a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack straightforwardly. Furthermore, recently a Distributed Reflected Denial of Service (DRDoS) attack, an unusual DDoS attack, has been detected. However, minimal deliberation has given to this forthcoming single point of SDN infrastructure failure problem. Moreover, recently the high frequencies of DDoS attacks have increased dramatically. In this paper, a smart algorithm for planning SDN smart backup controllers under DDoS attack scenarios has proposed. Our proposed smart algorithm can recommend single or multiple smart backup controllers in the event of DDoS occurrence. The obtained simulated results demonstrate that the validation of the proposed algorithm and the performance analysis achieved 99.99% accuracy in placing the smart backup controller under DDoS attacks within 0.125 to 46508.7 s in SDN.  相似文献

Applications of internet-of-things (IoT) are increasingly being used in many facets of our daily life, which results in an enormous volume of data. Cloud computing and fog computing, two of the most common technologies used in IoT applications, have led to major security concerns. Cyberattacks are on the rise as a result of the usage of these technologies since present security measures are insufficient. Several artificial intelligence (AI) based security solutions, such as intrusion detection systems (IDS), have been proposed in recent years. Intelligent technologies that require data preprocessing and machine learning algorithm-performance augmentation require the use of feature selection (FS) techniques to increase classification accuracy by minimizing the number of features selected. On the other hand, metaheuristic optimization algorithms have been widely used in feature selection in recent decades. In this paper, we proposed a hybrid optimization algorithm for feature selection in IDS. The proposed algorithm is based on grey wolf (GW), and dipper throated optimization (DTO) algorithms and is referred to as GWDTO. The proposed algorithm has a better balance between the exploration and exploitation steps of the optimization process and thus could achieve better performance. On the employed IoT-IDS dataset, the performance of the proposed GWDTO algorithm was assessed using a set of evaluation metrics and compared to other optimization approaches in the literature to validate its superiority. In addition, a statistical analysis is performed to assess the stability and effectiveness of the proposed approach. Experimental results confirmed the superiority of the proposed approach in boosting the classification accuracy of the intrusion in IoT-based networks.  相似文献

Cyberattacks are developing gradually sophisticated, requiring effective intrusion detection systems (IDSs) for monitoring computer resources and creating reports on anomalous or suspicious actions. With the popularity of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, the security of IoT networks is developing a vital problem. Because of the huge number and varied kinds of IoT devices, it can be challenging task for protecting the IoT framework utilizing a typical IDS. The typical IDSs have their restrictions once executed to IoT networks because of resource constraints and complexity. Therefore, this paper presents a new Blockchain Assisted Intrusion Detection System using Differential Flower Pollination with Deep Learning (BAIDS-DFPDL) model in IoT Environment. The presented BAIDS-DFPDL model mainly focuses on the identification and classification of intrusions in the IoT environment. To accomplish this, the presented BAIDS-DFPDL model follows blockchain (BC) technology for effective and secure data transmission among the agents. Besides, the presented BAIDS-DFPDL model designs Differential Flower Pollination based feature selection (DFPFS) technique to elect features. Finally, sailfish optimization (SFO) with Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM) model is applied for effectual recognition of intrusions. The simulation results on benchmark dataset exhibit the enhanced performance of the BAIDS-DFPDL model over other models on the recognition of intrusions.  相似文献

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a modern approach that enables connection with a wide variety of devices remotely. Due to the resource constraints and open nature of IoT nodes, the routing protocol for low power and lossy (RPL) networks may be vulnerable to several routing attacks. That’s why a network intrusion detection system (NIDS) is needed to guard against routing assaults on RPL-based IoT networks. The imbalance between the false and valid attacks in the training set degrades the performance of machine learning employed to detect network attacks. Therefore, we propose in this paper a novel approach to balance the dataset classes based on metaheuristic optimization applied to locality-sensitive hashing and synthetic minority oversampling technique (LSH-SMOTE). The proposed optimization approach is based on a new hybrid between the grey wolf and dipper throated optimization algorithms. To prove the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a set of experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of NIDS for three cases, namely, detection without dataset balancing, detection with SMOTE balancing, and detection with the proposed optimized LSH-SOMTE balancing. Experimental results showed that the proposed approach outperforms the other approaches and could boost the detection accuracy. In addition, a statistical analysis is performed to study the significance and stability of the proposed approach. The conducted experiments include seven different types of attack cases in the RPL-NIDS17 dataset. Based on the proposed approach, the achieved accuracy is (98.1%), sensitivity is (97.8%), and specificity is (98.8%).  相似文献

Machine learning (ML) algorithms are often used to design effective intrusion detection (ID) systems for appropriate mitigation and effective detection of malicious cyber threats at the host and network levels. However, cybersecurity attacks are still increasing. An ID system can play a vital role in detecting such threats. Existing ID systems are unable to detect malicious threats, primarily because they adopt approaches that are based on traditional ML techniques, which are less concerned with the accurate classification and feature selection. Thus, developing an accurate and intelligent ID system is a priority. The main objective of this study was to develop a hybrid intelligent intrusion detection system (HIIDS) to learn crucial features representation efficiently and automatically from massive unlabeled raw network traffic data. Many ID datasets are publicly available to the cybersecurity research community. As such, we used a spark MLlib (machine learning library)-based robust classifier, such as logistic regression (LR), extreme gradient boosting (XGB) was used for anomaly detection, and a state-of-the-art DL, such as a long short-term memory autoencoder (LSTMAE) for misuse attack was used to develop an efficient and HIIDS to detect and classify unpredictable attacks. Our approach utilized LSTM to detect temporal features and an AE to more efficiently detect global features. Therefore, to evaluate the efficacy of our proposed approach, experiments were conducted on a publicly existing dataset, the contemporary real-life ISCX-UNB dataset. The simulation results demonstrate that our proposed spark MLlib and LSTMAE-based HIIDS significantly outperformed existing ID approaches, achieving a high accuracy rate of up to 97.52% for the ISCX-UNB dataset respectively 10-fold cross-validation test. It is quite promising to use our proposed HIIDS in real-world circumstances on a large-scale.  相似文献

Networks provide a significant function in everyday life, and cybersecurity therefore developed a critical field of study. The Intrusion detection system (IDS) becoming an essential information protection strategy that tracks the situation of the software and hardware operating on the network. Notwithstanding advancements of growth, current intrusion detection systems also experience dif- ficulties in enhancing detection precision, growing false alarm levels and identifying suspicious activities. In order to address above mentioned issues, several researchers concentrated on designing intrusion detection systems that rely on machine learning approaches. Machine learning models will accurately identify the underlying variations among regular information and irregular information with incredible efficiency. Artificial intelligence, particularly machine learning methods can be used to develop an intelligent intrusion detection framework. There in this article in order to achieve this objective, we propose an intrusion detection system focused on a Deep extreme learning machine (DELM) which first establishes the assessment of safety features that lead to their prominence and then constructs an adaptive intrusion detection system focusing on the important features. In the moment, we researched the viability of our suggested DELMbased intrusion detection system by conducting dataset assessments and evaluating the performance factors to validate the system reliability. The experimental results illustrate that the suggested framework outclasses traditional algorithms. In fact, the suggested framework is not only of interest to scientific research but also of functional importance.  相似文献

In recent years, progressive developments have been observed in recent technologies and the production cost has been continuously decreasing. In such scenario, Internet of Things (IoT) network which is comprised of a set of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), has received more attention from civilian to military applications. But network security poses a serious challenge to UAV networks whereas the intrusion detection system (IDS) is found to be an effective process to secure the UAV networks. Classical IDSs are not adequate to handle the latest computer networks that possess maximum bandwidth and data traffic. In order to improve the detection performance and reduce the false alarms generated by IDS, several researchers have employed Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) algorithms to address the intrusion detection problem. In this view, the current research article presents a deep reinforcement learning technique, optimized by Black Widow Optimization (DRL-BWO) algorithm, for UAV networks. In addition, DRL involves an improved reinforcement learning-based Deep Belief Network (DBN) for intrusion detection. For parameter optimization of DRL technique, BWO algorithm is applied. It helps in improving the intrusion detection performance of UAV networks. An extensive set of experimental analysis was performed to highlight the supremacy of the proposed model. From the simulation values, it is evident that the proposed method is appropriate as it attained high precision, recall, F-measure, and accuracy values such as 0.985, 0.993, 0.988, and 0.989 respectively.  相似文献

Crowd Anomaly Detection has become a challenge in intelligent video surveillance system and security. Intelligent video surveillance systems make extensive use of data mining, machine learning and deep learning methods. In this paper a novel approach is proposed to identify abnormal occurrences in crowded situations using deep learning. In this approach, Adaptive GoogleNet Neural Network Classifier with Multi-Objective Whale Optimization Algorithm are applied to predict the abnormal video frames in the crowded scenes. We use multiple instance learning (MIL) to dynamically develop a deep anomalous ranking framework. This technique predicts higher anomalous values for abnormal video frames by treating regular and irregular video bags and video sections. We use the multi-objective whale optimization algorithm to optimize the entire process and get the best results. The performance parameters such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F-score are considered to evaluate the proposed technique using the Python simulation tool. Our simulation results show that the proposed method performs better than the conventional methods on the public live video dataset.  相似文献

In recent years, the application of a smart city in the healthcare sector via loT systems has continued to grow exponentially and various advanced network intrusions have emerged since these loT devices are being connected. Previous studies focused on security threat detection and blocking technologies that rely on testbed data obtained from a single medical IoT device or simulation using a well-known dataset, such as the NSL-KDD dataset. However, such approaches do not reflect the features that exist in real medical scenarios, leading to failure in potential threat detection. To address this problem, we proposed a novel intrusion classification architecture known as a Multi-class Classification based Intrusion Detection Model (M-IDM), which typically relies on data collected by real devices and the use of convolutional neural networks (i.e., it exhibits better performance compared with conventional machine learning algorithms, such as naïve Bayes, support vector machine (SVM)). Unlike existing studies, the proposed architecture employs the actual healthcare IoT environment of National Cancer Center in South Korea and actual network data from real medical devices, such as a patient’s monitors (i.e., electrocardiogram and thermometers). The proposed architecture classifies the data into multiple classes: Critical, informal, major, and minor, for intrusion detection. Further, we experimentally evaluated and compared its performance with those of other conventional machine learning algorithms, including naïve Bayes, SVM, and logistic regression, using neural networks.  相似文献

Identifying fruit disease manually is time-consuming, expert-required, and expensive; thus, a computer-based automated system is widely required. Fruit diseases affect not only the quality but also the quantity. As a result, it is possible to detect the disease early on and cure the fruits using computer-based techniques. However, computer-based methods face several challenges, including low contrast, a lack of dataset for training a model, and inappropriate feature extraction for final classification. In this paper, we proposed an automated framework for detecting apple fruit leaf diseases using CNN and a hybrid optimization algorithm. Data augmentation is performed initially to balance the selected apple dataset. After that, two pre-trained deep models are fine-tuning and trained using transfer learning. Then, a fusion technique is proposed named Parallel Correlation Threshold (PCT). The fused feature vector is optimized in the next step using a hybrid optimization algorithm. The selected features are finally classified using machine learning algorithms. Four different experiments have been carried out on the augmented Plant Village dataset and yielded the best accuracy of 99.8%. The accuracy of the proposed framework is also compared to that of several neural nets, and it outperforms them all.  相似文献
