Several of the events that marked the origins of feminist psychology in Canada are discussed in this paper beginning with an account of the "Underground Symposium" which took place in Montreal in 1972. Four other influential events from the early days are described--the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) Task Force on the Status of Women in Canadian Psychology, the founding of the CPA Interest Group on Women and Psychology in 1976, the implementation of an Institute on Women and Psychology in 1978, and the establishment of the CPA Status of Women Committee. Parallels with comparable events in the American Psychological Association are identified. The paper concludes with a forecast of the future of the psychology of women as a specialization within the discipline. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

The present survey of the publishing habits of women in the Journal of Counseling Psychology found that women published in this journal in higher proportion than would be expected by their membership in Division 17 of the American Psychological Association at the end of the past decade. Women published in the Journal of Counseling Psychology at the end of the 1970s in proportion to the percentage of women who earned counseling psychology PhDs in the mid-1970s. Women published most often with members of the opposite sex, whereas men published with members of the same sex. When men and women published together, first authors were generally men; however, when articles where one man published with one woman were examined, first authorship was shared equally between the sexes. The Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science is the fourth venture in journal publication of the Canadian Psychological Association. The first was the Bulletin, a modest little quarterly which from 1940 to 1946 served the association as an embryonic scientific journal and newsletter. By 1946 the number of reports of scholarly and scientific works which it received indicated clearly that a proper scientific journal was required. Hence, in 1947 the association undertook its second, but first major journal publishing venture, the Canadian Journal of Psychology. This replaced the Bulletin. In 1950, the association established another journal to serve as a house organ and named it the Canadian Psychologist. In May 1967, the association decided that if funds could be found, a journal devoted to theory, research, and application in the areas of psychology concerned with social problems would be established and called the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science. In January 1968 President W. H. Coons reported the gratifying news that the Canada Council had agreed to provide the needed funds. With the wholehearted support of the members of the association the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science should soon become a sister of the Canadian Journal of Psychology of which the Canadian psychological community can be justly proud. Often many positive programs which are being carried on around the country become lost due to a lack of communication and/or daily routine. One program which the Division 2 Committee on High School Psychology endorses wholeheartedly is that of some members of the Psychology Department at the University of Tennessee. If we are to have the public accept us as a scientific discipline, there is no better place to start than in the high school. If contacts, such as these, have been made, the Division 2 Committee on High School Psychology would certainly welcome and appreciate any and all feedback so that we can act as a "clearinghouse" for ideas for others. Reports an error in "The specialty of neuropsychology" by Anne L. Hess and Robert P. Hart (Neuropsychology, 1990[Jan], Vol 4[1], 49-52). This article does not represent an attempt by the Division 40 Committee on Professional Affairs to define the specialty of clinical neuropsychology, and was not prepared at the request of the Division 40 Committee on Professional Affairs of the American Psychological Association. The publisher extends its apologies for any confusion this may have caused. (The following abstract of the original article appeared in record 1991-13156-001.) Presents an attempt by the Division 40 Committee on Professional Affairs of the American Psychological Association to define the specialty of clinical neuropsychology. The specialty should be defined for psychologists and consumers of psychological services (e.g., government agencies, insurance companies) so that all concerned can have a clearer sense of expectations of qualifications and standards of practice for this field.
