Efficient hydrogen production via water splitting is significant because of the zero-carbon emission property. Developing low-cost and highly efficient electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), a key half-reaction of water splitting, is critical. Herein, we designed Cu(OH)2@NiCo layered double hydroxide core-shell nanoarray supported on copper foam (CF) with different La doping amount (abbreviated as Cu(OH)2@NiCoLa LDH/CF) via the facile electrodeposition method. Owing to the synergistic effect between La and NiCo LDH by electronic structure tuning, Cu(OH)2@NiCoLa LDH/CF shows excellent OER performance with the lowest overpotential of 254 mV to drive the current density of 10 mA cm?2 and outstanding long-term durability for 24 h. The idea of doping rare-earth metal into non-noble NiCo-based LDHs core-shell nanoarray structure in this work can inspire the design of other efficient electrocatalysts.  相似文献

The production of hydrogen, a favourable alternative to an unsustainable fossil fuel remains as a significant hurdle with the pertaining challenge in the design of proficient, highly productive and sustainable electrocatalyst for both oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, the dysprosium (Dy) doped copper oxide (Cu1-xDyxO) nanoparticles were synthesized via solution combustion technique and utilized as a non-noble metal based bi-functional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting. Due to the improved surface to volume ratio and conductivity, the optimized Cu1-xDyxO (x = 0.01, 0.02) electrocatalysts exhibited impressive HER and OER performance respectively in 1 M KOH delivering a current density of 10 mAcm?2 at a potential of ?0.18 V vs RHE for HER and 1.53 V vs RHE for OER. Moreover, the Dy doped CuO electrocatalyst used as a bi-functional catalyst for overall water splitting achieved a potential of 1.56 V at a current density 10 mAcm?2 and relatively high current density of 66 mAcm?2 at a peak potential of 2 V. A long term stability of 24 h was achieved for a cell voltage of 2.2 V at a constant current density of 30 mAcm?2 with only 10% of the initial current loss. This showcases the accumulative opportunity of dysprosium as a dopant in CuO nanoparticles for fabricating a highly effective and low-cost bi-functional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting.  相似文献

The speed of the oxygen evolution reaction seriously affects the hydrogen production efficiency of water electrolysis. Hence it is crucial to develop efficient and durable OER electrocatalysts. Construction of heterojunction catalysts is also one of the strategies to develop efficient catalysts. In this paper, a pea-like Cu/Cu2S–C3 Mott?Schottky electrocatalyst was self-constructed by vapor deposition, while CF (copper foam) was used as substrate material and copper source, and thiourea was served as sulfur source. The built-in electric field is formed at the metal-semiconductor interface, which endows it with promising electrocatalytic performance. As the working electrode, the overpotentials of Cu/Cu2S–C3 required to reach the current density of 10 and 50 mA cm?2 were about 170 and 335 mV. The impact of the Mott-Schottky structure on the catalyst was also reflected in stability. The i-t tests of the sample Cu/Cu2S–C3 were carried out under 10 and 60 mA cm?2 and performed well.  相似文献

Non-precious transition metal electrocatalysts with high catalytic performance and low cost enable the scalable and sustainable production of hydrogen energy through water splitting. In this work, based on the polymerization of CoMoO4 nanorods and pyrrole monomer, a heterointerface of carbon-wrapped and Co/Mo2C composites are obtained by thermal pyrolysis method. Co/Mo2C composites show considerable performance for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution in alkaline media. In alkaline media, Co/Mo2C composites show a small overpotential, low Tafel slope, and excellent stability for water splitting. Co/Mo2C exhibits a small overpotential of 157 mV for hydrogen evolution reaction and 366 mV for oxygen evolution reaction at current density of 10 mA cm−2, as well as a low Tafel slope of 109.2 mV dec−1 and 59.1 mV dec−1 for hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction, respectively. Co/Mo2C composites also exhibit an excellent stability, retaining 94% and 93% of initial current value for hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction after 45,000 s, respectively. Overall water splitting via two-electrode water indicates Co/Mo2C can hold 91% of its initial current after 40,000 s in 1 M KOH.  相似文献

Development of electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) plays a critical role in electrochemical water splitting systems. In this aim, iron based perovskite oxides with composition GdFe1-x Cux O3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3) have been investigated. The effect of copper doping, calcination temperature on the OER performance in alkaline media was studied. The incorporation of Cu2+ (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3) decreases the activity of calcined electrodes at 800 °C from 6.33 to 2.79 mA cm−2, while that containing 0.2 mol of copper calcined at 600 °C, exhibits the higher activity (9.66 mA cm−2) at 0.66 V. The stability study during 8 h indicates that the undoped electrode calcined at 800 °C, exhibits relatively a better stability of the OER performance compared to that doped with 20% of copper calcined at 600 °C. The achieved results show promising potential for cost-effective hydrogen generation using earth-abundant materials and cheap fabrication processes.  相似文献

It is an inevitable choice to find efficient and economically-friendly electrocatalysts to reduce the high overpotential of oxygen evolution reaction (OER), which is the key to improve the energy conversion efficiency of water splitting. Herein, we synthesized Cu2S/Ni3S2 catalysts on nickel foam (NF) with different molar ratios of Ni/Cu by a simple two-step hydrothermal method. Cu2S/Ni3S2-0.5@NF (CS/NS-0.5@NF) effectively reduces the overpotential of OER, displaying small overpotentials (237 mV@100 mA cm?2 and 280 mV@500 mA cm?2) in an alkaline solution, along with a low Tafel slope of 44 mV dec?1. CS/NS-0.5@NF also presents an excellent durability at a relatively high current density of 100 mA cm?2 for 100 h. The excellent performance is benefited by the prominent structural advantages and desirable compositions. The nanosheet has a high electrochemical active surface area and the porous structure is conducive to electrolyte penetration and product release. This work provides an economically-friendly Cu-based sulfide catalyst for effective electrosynthesis of OER.  相似文献

Among the most critical components for water-derived hydrogen fuel, the study of electrocatalysts as anode for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is an important topic in the water splitting process. In this work, the CuCo2O4–CuO composite electrode is synthesized directly on nickel foam to evaluate its potential as OER catalyst in an alkaline medium. An interesting strategy is to use flaxseed oil as a polymerizing agent in a sol-gel process combined with hydrothermal. A low overpotential value of 289 mV vs RHE at 10 mA cm−2 current density and a Tafel slope of 71 mV dec−1 were observed, which represents an electrocatalytic performance superior to other Cu and Co based oxides in the literature. Short-term stability testing of 15 h demonstrates stable overpotential with no observable secondary phase after measurements. The successful outcome of this work is a result of the promising green chemical approach herein used to obtain electrocatalysts grown directly on conductive substrates for water oxidation.  相似文献

Active site engineering for electrocatalysts is an essential strategy to improve their intrinsic electrocatalytic capability for practical applications and it is of great significance to develop a new excellent electrocatalyst for overall water splitting. Here, Co3O4/nickel foam (NF) and Co2(P4O12)/NF electrocatalysts with flower-shaped and sea urchin-shaped structures are synthesized by a simple hydrothermal process and followed by a post-treatment method. Among them, Co2(P4O12)/NF shows good catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), and at the current density of 10 mA cm?2, the overpotential is only 113 mV Co3O4/NF exhibits good catalytic activity for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and the overpotential is 327 mV at 20 mA cm?2. An alkaline electrolyzer with Co3O4/NF and Co2(P4O12)/NF catalysts respectively as anode and cathode displays a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a cell voltage of 1.59 V. This work provides a simple way to prepare high efficient, low cost and rich in content promising electrocatalysts for overall water splitting.  相似文献

Electrolysis of seawater gets an attention to produce hydrogen for renewable energy technology. It significantly reduces the use of fresh water instead of seawater. Development of low temperature fabrication of electrocatalyst can explore seawater splitting by avoiding chloride reduction during the hydrogen production. In the present work, we fabricated low temperature hydrothermal growth of Cu2S electrocatalyst on Ni foam at constant temperature of 80 °C at different growth times of 1–3 h. The prepared Cu2S electrocatalyst grown for 1 h exhibited low overpotentials of 76 and 118 mV at 10 mA/cm2 (289 and 358 mV overpotentials at 100 mA/cm2) in 1 M KOH deionized water and seawater, respectively for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The Tafel plot of Cu2S catalyst grown for 1 h showed lesser Tafel slope value of 128 mVdec?1 than that of other growth times 2 h (136 mVdec?1) and 3 h (142 mV dec?1) indicating elevated electrocatalytic behaviour of Cu2S grown for 1 h. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) showed charge transfer resistance of 12.8Ω, 19.6 Ω and 25.7Ω, for Cu2S grown for 1, 2 and 3 h, respectively, this lower charge transfer resistance indicated higher charge transfer properties. The Cu2S electrocatalyst grown for 1 h sustained retention of 80% after 12 h continuous stability test. Therefore, the cost-effective and low temperature fabrication of Cu2S electrocatalyst proceeds for development of largescale seawater splitting for hydrogen production.  相似文献

The development of efficient, cheap and stable electrodes is the key to achieve the industrialization of hydrogen production from electrochemical water splitting. In this paper, NixSy-Ni2P mixtures on Ni foam (NixSy-Ni2P/NF) were synthesized by hydrothermal process followed by sulfurization and phosphorization approach. The combination of NixSy and Ni2P exposes a large number of active sites, thus greatly improving the catalytic activity of the material. As expected, the NixSy-Ni2P/NF material exhibits ultra-small overpotentials of 211 and 320 mV for water oxidation reaction at the current densities of 10 and 100 mA/cm2, respectively. What is noteworthy is that the material also present superior hydrogen evolution reaction properties (122 mV@10 mA cm?2). Moreover, when the material is acted as a bifunction electrode to drive the overall water splitting, only a cell voltage of 1.54 V is required to drive a current density of 10 mA/cm2, which is one of the superior catalytic properties reported up to now. Experimental results show that the good electrochemistry performance of the NixSy-Ni2P/NF material is attributed to the improved charge transfer rate, exposure of more active site and superior electrical conductivity. This work provides an effective way to explore environmentally friendly catalysts based on transition metal sulfide and phosphide.  相似文献

Self-standing and hybrid MoS2/Ni3S2 foam is fabricated as electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline medium. The Ni3S2 foam with a unique surface morphology results from the sulfurization of Ni foam showing a truncated-hexagonal stacked sheets morphology. A simple dip coating of MoS2 on the sulfurized Ni foam results in the formation of self-standing and hybrid electrocatalyst. The electrocatalytic HER performance was evaluated using the standard three-electrode setup in the de-aerated 1 M KOH solution. The electrocatalyst shows an overpotential of 190 mV at ?10 mA/cm2 with a Tafel slope of 65.6 mV/dec. An increased surface roughness originated from the unique morphology enhances the HER performance of the electrocatalyst. A density functional approach shows that, the hybrid MoS2/Ni3S2 heterostructure synergistically favors the hydrogen adsorption-desorption steps. The hybrid electrocatalyst shows an excellent stability under the HER condition for 12 h without any performance degradation.  相似文献

The development of cheap, efficient, and active non-noble metal electrocatalysts for total hydrolysis of water (oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER)) is of great significance to promote the application of water splitting. Herein, a heterogeneous structured electrode based on FeAlCrMoV high-entropy alloy (HEA) was synthesized as a cost-effective electrocatalyst for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions in alkaline media. In combination of the interfacial synergistic effect and the high-entropy coordination environment, flower-like HEA/MoS2/MoP exhibited the excellent HER and OER electrocatalytic performance. It showed a low overpotential of 230 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm−2 for OER and 148 mV for HER in alkaline electrolyte, respectively. Furthermore, HEA/MoS2/MoP as both anode and cathode also exhibited an overpotential of 1.60 V for overall water splitting. This work provides a new strategy for heterogeneous structure construction and overall water splitting based on high-entropy alloys.  相似文献

Designing cost-effective and high-efficiency non-noble electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) remains a significant challenge for electrochemical water splitting to store clean and renewable energy. Herein, we have developed Ni–Fe–Sn electrocatalysts grown on Ni foam (Ni–Fe–Sn@NF) for the HER through a simple and facile synthetic route of cyclic voltammetry electrodeposition. The optimized Ni–Fe–Sn electrocatalysts possess excellent electrocatalysis toward hydrogen evolution with a low overpotential of 103 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2, together with a small Tafel slope value of 97.4 mV·dec−1 in 1 M KOH. The electrocatalyst also features excellent stability even after 2000 cycles and strong durability after 50 h under alkaline condition. The high HER performance can be attributed to the moderately optimized electronic structure of the Ni, Fe, and Sn center and bind-free nature of the electrode, which facilitates electron transfer and speeds up reaction kinetics. Moreover, the improved electrochemical surface area also enhances the performance on hydrogen production. This strategy presents a facile and simple tactic for the synthesis of noble-metal-free electrocatalysts with excellent HER performance.  相似文献

Developing cost-effective and remarkable electrocatalysts toward oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performs excelling role in boosting the hydrogen energy application. Herein, a novel in-situ one-pot strategy is developed for the first time to synthesize molybdenum carbide nanoparticles (Mo2C NPs) incorporated on nitrogen (N) and phosphorous (P) co-doped stereotaxically carbon (SC). The optimized Mo2C NPs/N, P–SC–800 electrocatalyst exhibits lower overpotentials of 131 and 287 mV for HER and OER to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm?2 in 1.0 M KOH medium with smaller Tafel slopes of 58.9 and 74.4 mV/dec, respectively. In addition, an electrolyzer using Mo2C NPs/N, P–SC–800 electrode as cathode and anode delivers a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a small voltage of 1.64 V for overall water splitting. The excellent water splitting performance could be ascribed to optimum Mo2C NPs for more accessible active sites, highly active N, P-SC networks for accelerated electron transfers, and synergetic effect between Mo2C NPs and N, P-SC networks. The N, P-SC network not only enhances the overall dispersion of Mo2C NPs but also contributes numerous electroactive edges to enhance the performance of HER, OER, and overall water splitting activity. This research work explores the in-situ one-step strategies of advanced, cost-effective, and non-precious metal electrocatalysts for efficient water splitting and motivates the consideration of a novel class of heteroatom doped stereotaxically carbon nanocomposites for sustainable energy production.  相似文献

Earth-abundant, non-precious metal-based bifunctional electrocatalysts with efficient water splitting activity are of valuable importance in the limitation of energy losses in an alkaline environment. Herein, we report NiCo–NiCoO2 nano-heterostructures embedded on the oxidized surface of copper foam (NiCo–NiCoO2@Cu2O@CF) as an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting in 1 M KOH electrolyte solution. In this study, metallic Ni and Co interlinkage with NiCoO2 nanoparticles (NPs) are suggested to form by thermal decomposition of nickel-cobalt hydroxide precursors embedding on copper foam under a nitrogen environment. Bimetallic thin layered nano-heterostructures of NiCo–NiCoO2@Cu2O@CF exhibits a synergic effect of doubly active metals Ni and Co to achieve remarkable small overpotentials of 133 and 327 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm?2 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The influential synergetic and structural effects have been extensively discussed to understand the overall water splitting for designing an efficient electrocatalyst. Hence, this phenomenon for surface modification of conductive substrate (CF) with a suitable combination of metal/metal oxide alloying as catalytic material helps us to design and synthesize low cost, highly efficient, non-precious metal-based electrocatalysts for overall water splitting.  相似文献

Exploiting environmentally friendly and robust oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrodes is still a great difficulty to promote the water oxidation for electrocatalytic water splitting. In the work, molybdenum-doped nickel copper hydrotalcite (NiCuMox LDH) nanoarrays have been firstly in situ grown on nickel foam (NF) via a typical hydrothermal process. When NiCuMo0.2 LDH/NF was used as a OER electrocatalyst, it displays superior electrocatalytic performance with the need of small overpotentials of only 290 mV to drive 40 mA cm−2 and a low Tafel slope of 39.8 mV dec−1, which are almost one of the best water oxidation activities reported so far. The enhanced electrocatalytic performance is attributed to unique urchin-like structure, more exposure to active sites and enhanced charge transfer rate owing to the synergistic effect of Mo doping and NiCu LDH. The work put forward a new method for the development of efficient water oxidation electrocatalysts, which will fill the gap for the exploitation of trimetal LDH-based electrodes in large-scale water splitting applications in the future.  相似文献

The urea solution electrolysis has become more attractive than water splitting, because it not only produces clean H2 via the cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with lower cell voltage, but also treats sewage containing urea through anodic urea oxidation reaction (UOR). However, lack of efficient electrocatalysts for HER and UOR has limited its development. Herein, hairy sphere -like Ni9S8/CuS/Cu2O composites were synthesized on nickel foam (NF) in situ by a two-step hydrothermal method. The Ni9S8/CuS/Cu2O/NF exhibited good electrocatalytic activity for both HER (?0.146 V vs. RHE to achieve 10 mA cm?2) and UOR (1.357 V vs. RHE to achieve 10 mA cm?2). Based on the bifunctional properties of Ni9S8/CuS/Cu2O/NF, a dual-electrode urea solution electrolytic cell was constructed, which only needed a low voltage of 1.47 V to reach a current density of 10 mA cm?2, and displayed a good stability during a 20-h test. In addition, the reason for the good catalytic activity of Ni9S8/CuS/Cu2O/NF was analyzed and the UOR mechanism was discussed in detail. Our research shows that Ni9S8/CuS/Cu2O/NF is a very promising low-cost dual-function electrocatalyst, which can be used for high-efficiency electrolysis of urea solution to produce hydrogen and treat wastewater.  相似文献

Hydrogen production from electrolyzed water is a mature technology and has great development prospects in terms of energy conversion and utilization. However, the kinetically sluggish oxygen-evolution reaction becomes the limiting step in the electrolysis of water. Copper-based materials have been reported as a good choice to catalyze the oxygen evolution reaction, but their performance is poor. We describe a Cu2-xSe@CuO/copper foam core–shell structure from the in situ electrochemical oxidation of Cu2Se/copper foam to promote the oxygen-evolution reaction performance. The presence of a semi-metallic Cu2-xSe core and nanostructured CuO shell at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 requires a low overpotential of 253 mV. The Tafel slope was only 73 mV dec−1. The preparation of Cu2-xSe@CuO on three-dimensional copper foam facilitates the reaction.  相似文献

Iridium-based bimetallic alloy system with unique performance is of great interest for high-temperature corrosive environment as a barrier layer or for water splitting of hydrogen/oxygen evolution reactions as a highly efficient and stable electrocatalyst. In this work, iridium-cobalt (Ir–Co) thin films were galvanostatically electrodeposited on a copper (Cu) foam electrode as an electrocatalyst for water splitting in 1.0 M KOH alkaline medium. The effects of loading and solution temperature on hydrogen evolution performance of Ir–Co deposits were investigated. The results show that Ir–Co deposits were adhered to substrates, with porous structure and hollow topography. The concentrations of Ir in the deposits with the loadings of 4.6, 3.2 and 0.8 mg·cm?2 were 88, 88 and 75 wt%, respectively. Ir–Co deposit with the loading of 3.2 mg·cm?2 required an overpotential of 108 mV for hydrogen evolution reaction to reach a current density of 30 mA cm?2, having a low Tafel slope value of 36 mV·dec?1. The changes in the solution temperature and catalyst loading had a significant effect on hydrogen evolution performance of Ir–Co/Ir–Co–O electrocatalysts. With the increasing of catalyst loading, the electrocatalytic activity increased firstly and then decreased. As the solution temperature was increased from 20 to 40 °C, the electrocatalytic activity of Ir–Co–O electrocatalyst increased, and then decreased with the rising of temperature. The apparent thermal activation energy obtained from Arrhenius plot was ~13.9 kJ mol?1. Ir–Co/Ir–Co–O deposits exhibited relatively good electrocatalytic stability and durability. The present work demonstrates a possible pathway to develop a highly active and durable substitute for thin film electrocatalysts for water splitting of hydrogen evolution reaction.  相似文献

The development of non-precious metal-based highly active bi-functional electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is critical factor for making water electrolysis a viable process for large-scale industrial applications. In this study, bi-functional water splitting electrocatalysts in the form of nickel-sulfide/nickel nanoparticles integrated into a three-dimensional N-doped porous carbon matrix, are prepared using NaCl as a porous structure-forming template. Microstructures of the catalytic materials are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and N2 adsorption-desorption analysis. The most active catalyst synthesized in this study exhibits a low HER overpotential of 70 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and a low Tafel slope of 45 mV dec−1. In OER, the optimized sample performs better than a state-of-the-art RuO2 catalyst and produces an overpotential of 337 mV at 10 mA cm−2, lower than that of RuO2. The newly obtained materials are also used as HER/OER electrocatalysts in a specially assembled two-electrode water splitting cell. The cell demonstrates high activity and good stability in overall water splitting.  相似文献
