In this thermodynamic investigation, an integrated energy system based on hydrogen fuel is developed and studied energetically and exergetically. The liquefied hydrogen fueled solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) based system is then integrated with a steam producing cycle to supply electricity and potable water to ships. The first heat recovery system, after the fuel cells provide thrust for the ship, is by means of a turbine while the second heat recovery system drives the ship's refrigeration cycle. This study includes energy and exergy performance evaluations of SOFC, refrigeration cycle and ship thrust engine systems. Furthermore, the effectiveness of SOFCs and a hydrogen fueled engine in reducing greenhouse gas emissions are assessed parametrically through a case study. The main propulsion, power generation from the solid oxide fuel cells, absorption chiller, and steam bottoming cycle systems together have the overall energy and exergy efficiencies of 41.53% and 37.13%, respectively.  相似文献

A novel solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) multigeneration system fueled by biogas derived from agricultural waste (maize silage) is designed and analyzed from the view point of energy and exergy analysis. The system is proposed in order to limit the greenhouse gas emissions as it uses a renewable energy source as a fuel. Electricity, domestic hot water, hydrogen and cooling load are produced simultaneously by the system. The system includes a solid oxide fuel cell; which is the primary mover, a biogas digester subsystem, a cascaded closed loop organic Rankine cycle, a single effect LiBr-water absorption refrigeration cycle, and a proton exchange membrane electrolyzer subsystem. The proposed cascaded closed-loop ORC cycle is considered as one of the advanced heat recovery technologies that significantly improve thermal efficiency of integrated systems. The thermal performance of the proposed system is observed to be higher in comparison to the simple ORC and the recuperated ORC cycles. The integration of a splitter to govern the flue gas separation ratio is also introduced in this study to cater for particular needs/demands. The separation ratio can be used to vary the cooling load or the additional power supplied by the ORC to the system. It is deduced that net electrical power, cooling load, heating capacity of the domestic hot water and total energy and exergy efficiency are 789.7 kW, 317.3 kW, 65.75 kW, 69.86% and 47.4% respectively under integral design conditions. Using a parametric approach, the effects of main parameters on the output of the device are analyzed. Current density is an important parameter for system performance. Increasing the current density leads to increased power produced by the system, decreased exergy efficiency in the system and increased energy efficiency. After-burner, air and fuel heat exchangers are observed to have the highest exergy destruction rates. Lower current density values are desirable for better exergy-based sustainability from the exergetic environmental impact assessment. Higher current density values have negative effect on the environment.  相似文献

Fuel cell and renewable-based poly-generation plants (PGPs) are proven as advanced technologies for multiple generation purposes. To limit the greenhouse gas emissions, an innovative PGP generating electricity, cooling, desalinated water, and hydrogen is proposed in the current study. The system consists of a solid oxide fuel cell as a prime mover integrated with a gas turbine, a biomass combustion chamber, an organic Rankine cycle, an ejector refrigeration cycle, a desalination unit, and a proton exchange membrane electrolyzer integrated with solar collectors. As the most effective tools for performance evaluation, exergoeconomic, and environmental analyses have been applied. The system produces electricity of 4.4 MW, refrigeration capacity of 0.16 MW, and desalinated water of 0.96 kg/s. The attained freshwater enters the electrolyzer during 12 daylight hours, leading to hydrogen and sanitary water generation with the values of 1.55 g/s and 0.94 kg/s, respectively. The cost per unit exergy and the total cost rate of the products are 11.28 $/GJ, 223 $/h, correspondingly. Carbon dioxide emission of the system is estimated to be 10.79 kmol/MWh. According to the evaluation, the total cost rate increases with increasing current density and fuel cell inlet temperature and decreasing fuel utilization factor.  相似文献

A 100 kWe hybrid plant consisting of gasification system, solid oxide fuel cells and organic Rankine cycle is presented. The nominal power is selected based on cultivation area requirement. For the considered output a land of around 0.5 km2 needs to be utilized. Woodchips are introduced into a fixed bed gasification plant to produce syngas which fuels the combined solid oxide fuel cells – organic Rankine cycle system to produce electricity. More than a hundred fluids are considered as possible alternative for the organic cycle using non-ideal equations of state (or state-of-the-art equations of state). A genetic algorithm is employed to select the optimal working fluid and the maximum pressure for the bottoming cycle. Thermodynamic and physical properties, environmental impacts and hazard specifications are also considered in the screening process. The results suggest that efficiencies in the region of 54–56% can be achieved. The highest thermal efficiency (56.4%) is achieved with propylcyclohexane at 15.9 bar. A comparison with the available and future technologies for biomass to electricity conversion is carried out. It is shown that the proposed system presents twice the thermal efficiency achieved by simple and double stage organic Rankine cycle plants and around the same efficiency of a combined gasification, solid oxide fuel cells and micro gas turbine plant.  相似文献

The study examines a novel system that combined a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) for cooling, heating and power production (trigeneration) through exergy analysis. The system consists of an SOFC, an ORC, a heat exchanger and a single-effect absorption chiller. The system is modeled to produce a net electricity of around 500 kW. The study reveals that there is 3-25% gain on exergy efficiency when trigeneration is used compared with the power cycle only. Also, the study shows that as the current density of the SOFC increases, the exergy efficiencies of power cycle, cooling cogeneration, heating cogeneration and trigeneration decreases. In addition, it was shown that the effect of changing the turbine inlet pressure and ORC pump inlet temperature are insignificant on the exergy efficiencies of the power cycle, cooling cogeneration, heating cogeneration and trigeneration. Also, the study reveals that the significant sources of exergy destruction are the ORC evaporator, air heat exchanger at the SOFC inlet and heating process heat exchanger.  相似文献

Based on the current models of the solid oxide fuel cell and gas turbine, a generic model of a solid oxide fuel cell-gas turbine hybrid system is established, in which the multiple irreversibilities existing in real hybrid systems are taken into account. Expressions for the efficiencies and power outputs of both the subsystems and the hybrid system are analytically derived. The general performance characteristics of the hybrid system are revealed and the optimum criteria of the main performance parameters are determined. The effects of some key irreversibilities existing in the fuel cell and gas turbine on the performance of the hybrid systems are discussed in detail. The results obtained may be directly used to discuss some special cases of the hybrid system.  相似文献

This study proposes a trigeneration system based on solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) for generating power, cooling and heating simultaneously. The system mainly contains a SOFC, a gas turbine (GT), an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), a steam ejector refrigerator (SER) and a heat exchanger. The thermodynamic, exergoeconomic and exergoenvironmental models of proposed trigeneration system are developed, and the effects of design parameters on system performances are analyzed. The results indicate that the system average product cost and environmental impact per unit of exergy increase with SOFC inlet temperature and working pressure, the pinch point temperature difference and evaporating pressure of Generator, while decrease with the current density of fuel cell. Finally, optimization is performed to achieve the optimal exergy-based performance. It is revealed that though the system exergy efficiency is decreased by 7.64% after optimization, the system average product cost and environmental impact per unit of exergy are significantly reduced.  相似文献

Performance improvement being a major need of the power sector aims at increasing efficiency, lowering air pollutants and ultimately cost. This paper explores a quadruple cycle, a hybrid of solid oxide fuel cell integrated with gas turbine, steam turbine and organic Rankine cycle totaling four cycles (SOFC-GT-ST-ORC), fueled primarily by natural gas for stationary power generation. A mathematical model of the configuration of the quadruple cycle is developed and the performance investigated through a parametric study of the thermodynamic components. The power output, efficiency and other results were validated with those found in literature. The quadruple cycle produced an efficiency of 66.1% with 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane, R134a as the organic working fluid. This efficiency exceeded the performance of traditional thermodynamic cycles like single steam cycle, combined and triple cycle at similar operating conditions. Lastly, the quadruple cycle presents a potential for optimization with waste heat recovery.  相似文献

Renewable energy-based hydrogen production plants can offer potential solutions to both ensuring sustainability in energy generation systems and designing environmentally friendly systems. In this combined work, a novel solar energy supported plant is proposed that can generate hydrogen, electricity, heating, cooling and hot water. With the suggested integrated plant, the potential of solar energy usage is increased for energy generation systems. The modeled integrated system generally consists of the solar power cycle, solid oxide fuel cell plant, gas turbine process, supercritical power plant, organic Rankine cycle, cooling cycle, hydrogen production and liquefaction plant, and hot water production sub-system. To conduct a comprehensive thermodynamic performance analysis of the suggested plant, the combined plant is modeled according to thermodynamic equilibrium equations. A performance assessment is also conducted to evaluate the impact of several plant indicators on performance characteristics of integrated system and its sub-parts. Hydrogen production rate in the suggested plant according to the performance analysis performed is realized as 0.0642 kg/s. While maximum exergy destruction rate is seen in the solar power plant with 8279 kW, the cooling plant has the lowest exergy destruction rate as 1098 kW. Also, the highest power generation is obtained from gas turbine cycle with 7053 kW. In addition, energetic and exergetic efficiencies of solar power based combined cycle are found as 56.48% and 54.06%, respectively.  相似文献

This paper performed a comparative analysis of organic Rankine cycle (ORC) using different working fluids, in order to recover waste heat from a solid oxide fuel cell‐gas turbine hybrid power cycle. Depending on operating parameters, criteria for the choice of the working fluid were identified. Results reveal that due to a significant temperature glide of the exhaust gas, the actual ORC cycle thermal efficiency strongly depends on the turbine inlet temperature, exhaust gas temperature, and fluid's critical point temperature. When exhaust gas temperature varies in the range of 500 K to 600 K, R123 is preferred among the nine dry typical organic fluids because of the highest and most stabilized mean thermal efficiency under wide operating conditions and its reasonable condensing pressure and turbine outlet specific volume, which in turn results in a feasible ORC cycle for practical concerns. In this study, energy analysis of a trigeneration plant based on solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is conducted. The physical and thermodynamic elements of the plant include an SOFC, an ORC, a heat exchanger for the heating process and a single-effect absorption chiller for cooling. The results obtained from this study show that there is at least a 22% gain in efficiency using the trigeneration plant compared with the power cycle (SOFC and ORC). The study also shows that the maximum efficiency of the trigeneration plant is 74%, heating cogeneration is 71%, cooling cogeneration is 57% and net electricity is 46%. Furthermore, it is found that the highest net power output that can be provided by the trigeneration plant considered in this study is 540 kW and, the highest SOFC-AC power is 520 kW. The study reveals that the inlet pressure of the turbine has an insignificant effect on the efficiency. The study also examines the effect of both the SOFC current density and the SOFC inlet flow temperature on the cell voltage and voltage loss.  相似文献

A novel cooling, heat, and power (CHP) system has been proposed that features a semi-closed Brayton cycle with pressurized recuperation, integrated with a vapor absorption refrigeration system (VARS). The semi-closed Brayton cycle is called the high-pressure regenerative turbine engine (HPRTE). The VARS interacts with the HPRTE power cycle through heat exchange in the generator and the evaporator. Waste heat from the recirculated combustion gas of the HPRTE is used to power the absorption refrigeration unit, which cools the high-pressure compressor inlet of the HPRTE to below ambient conditions and also produces excess refrigeration in an amount that depends on ambient conditions. Water produced as a product of combustion is intentionally condensed in the evaporator of the VARS, which is designed to provide sufficient cooling for the inlet air to the high-pressure compressor, water extraction, and for an external cooling load. The computer model of the combined HPRTE/VARS cycle predicts that with steam blade cooling and a medium-sized engine, the cycle will have a thermal efficiency of 49% for a turbine inlet temperature of 1400°C. This thermal efficiency, is in addition to the large external cooling load, generated in the combined cycle, which is 13% of the net work output. In addition, it also produces up to 1.4 kg of water for each kg of fuel consumed, depending upon the fuel type. When the combined HPRTE/VARS cycle is optimized for maximum thermal efficiency, the optimum occurs for a broad range of operating conditions. Details of the multivariate optimization procedure and results are presented in this paper. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A novel power/cooling system integrated with organic Rankine cycle and absorption-compression refrigeration cycle was proposed in order to realize the cascade utilization of low-grade energy. In the proposed system, R1234ze(E) (trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene) is used as the working fluid for the organic Rankine cycle subsystem and the binary mixtures of R1234ze(E) with three ionic liquids [HMIM][BF4], [EMIM][BF4] and [OMIM][BF4] are used as working fluid for absorption-compression refrigeration cycle subsystem due to their superior environmental protection property and physicochemical property. Moreover, in order to recover the heat of the exhaust gas from turbine in organic Rankine cycle subsystem, the exhaust gas is mixed with R1234ze(E)/ionic liquid solution directly in desorber, while the heat of refrigerant from desorber is recovered to reduce the heat load of condenser. The proposed system has much higher energy and exergy efficiency and lower heat load of condenser than reference system. Under specific conditions, increases of 0.24 and 0.07 in thermal efficiency and exergy efficiency of reference system can be achieved. The effect of distribution ratio, expansion ratio, heat source temperature, condensation temperature, generation temperature, evaporation temperature and compression ratio were analyzed for better design in actual application.  相似文献

A multieffect refrigeration system that is based on a waste‐heat‐driven organic Rankine cycle that could produce refrigeration output of different magnitudes at different levels of temperature is presented. The proposed system is integration of combined ejector–absorption refrigeration cycle and ejector expansion Joule–Thomson (EJT) cooling cycle that can meet the requirements of air‐conditioning, refrigeration, and cryogenic cooling simultaneously at the expense of industrial waste heat. The variation of the parameters that affect the system performance such as industrial waste heat temperature, refrigerant turbine inlet pressure, and the evaporator temperature of ejector refrigeration cycle (ERC) and EJT cycles was examined, respectively. It was found that refrigeration output and thermal efficiency of the multieffect cycle decrease considerably with the increase in industrial waste heat temperature, while its exergy efficiency varies marginally. A thermal efficiency value of 22.5% and exergy efficiency value of 8.6% were obtained at an industrial waste heat temperature of 210°C, a turbine inlet pressure of 1.3 MPa, and ejector evaporator temperature of 268 K. Both refrigeration output and thermal efficiency increase with the increase in turbine inlet pressure and ERC evaporator temperature. Change in EJT cycle evaporator temperature shows a little impact on both thermal and exergy efficiency values of the multieffect cycle. Analysis of the results clearly shows that the proposed cycle has an effective potential for cooling production through exploitation of lost energy from the industry. Cogeneration has improved sustainability as it can improve the energy utilization efficiency significantly. In this paper, a novel ammonia-water cycle is proposed for the cogeneration of power and refrigeration. In order to meet the different concentration requirements in the cycle heat addition process and the condensation process, a splitting /absorption unit is introduced and integrated with an ammonia–water Rankine cycle and an ammonia refrigeration cycle. This system can be driven by industrial waste heat or a gas turbine flue gas. The cycle performance was evaluated by the exergy efficiency, which is 58% for the base case system (with the turbine inlet parameters of 450 °C/11.1 MPa and the refrigeration temperature below −15 °C). It is found that there are certain split fractions which maximize the exergy efficiency for given basic working fluid concentration. Compared with the conventional separate generation system of power and refrigeration, the cogeneration system has an 18.2% reduction in energy consumption.  相似文献

The gas turbine engine is characterized by its relatively low capital cost compared with steam power plants. It has environmental advantages and short construction lead time. However, conventional industrial engines have lower efficiencies especially at part load. One of the technologies adopted nowadays for improvement is the “combined cycle”. Hence, it is expected that the combined cycle continues to gain acceptance throughout the world as a reliable, flexible and efficient base load power generation plant. In this article, 12 research investigations, carried out by the author and associates during the last 10 years are briefly reviewed. These cover 12 gas turbine systems which would contribute towards efficient use of energy. They entail fundamental studies in addition to applications of combined systems in industry including: the closed gas turbine cycle; the organic Rankine cycle; repowering; integrated power and refrigeration; cryogenic power; liquefied natural gas (LNG) gasification; and inlet air cooling.  相似文献

Hybrid solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) cycles of varying complexity are widely studied for their potential efficiency, carbon recovery and co-production of chemicals. This study introduces an alternative de-coupled fuel cell-gas turbine hybrid arrangement that retains the high efficiency thermal integration of a topping cycle without the high temperature heat exchanger of a bottoming cycle. The system utilizes a solid-state oxygen transport membrane to divert 30%–50% of the oxygen from the turbine working fluid to the intermediate temperature SOFC. Thermodynamic modeling delineates design trade-offs and identifies a flexible operating regime with peak fuel-to-electric efficiency of 75%. Co-production of electricity and high purity hydrogen result in net energy conversion efficiencies greater than 80%. The potential to retrofit existing turbine systems, particularly micro-turbines and stand-by ‘peaker’ plants, with minimal impact to compressor stability or transient response is a promising pathway to hybrid fuel cell/turbine development that does not require turbomachinery modification.  相似文献

International trade volumes have grown due to acceleration of marine transportation of goods between continents. However, there is a concomitant increase in fossil fuel consumption and adverse environmental impact. This paper presents a new design of marine engines comprising of gas Brayton cycle, solid oxide fuel cell, and two organic Rankine cycles to replace two-stroke internal combustion engines. Hydrogen, methane, dimethyl ether, ethanol, and methanol are potentially selected as green fuels. In addition, liquified natural gas is used for cooling processes. This integrated hybridized marine engine is thermodynamically analyzed using the Aspen Plus software to assess its performance energetically and exergetically. It is found that the engine's total power is boosted by 33% to an average of 15758 kW with average energetic and exergetic efficiencies of 38% and 46%, respectively. The maximum power is fulfilled using all sustainable fuel blends to reach 16087 kW with a maximum carbon emission reduction of 83% and minimum specific fuel consumption. The proposed engine has better performance and less environmental impact, which is a more convenient choice than traditional engines.  相似文献

Because of the requirement of the utilization of energy resources in a way that is both effective and efficient, solid oxide fuel cells have become a notable preference due to their advantages such as high efficiency and use with different fuels. In addition, the integration of these systems in the production of alternative fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia are important for a sustainable future to combat environmental problems. For this reason, the main intention of this paper is to introduce a new plant combining the different systems that use the solid oxide fuel cell for a cleaner and sustainable future. In the modeled work, a solid oxide fuel cell, a gas turbine, an organic Rankine cycle, a Kalina cycle with ejector, a hydrogen generation and storage process, a wood steaming plant, and an ammonia production system is integrated, to generate useful products. Detailed thermodynamic modeling is performed through energy and exergy methods, to determine the performance of the advised system and subsystem. Moreover, energy efficiency, exergy efficiency, and exergy destruction analyses methods are applied to each sub-plant and the whole system separately. In addition, parametric research is carried out to examine the effects of modifying key parameters on the plant's and subsystems' performance. Looking at the analysis results, the amount of the hydrogen and ammonia generation capacities of this work are 0.0085 kgs?1and 0.2023 kgs?1, respectively. In addition, the modeled power plant produces a power rate of about 20,180 kW. As a result, this proposed study is calculated to have 61.04% energy efficiency, and 57.13% exergy efficiency.  相似文献

This paper presents an analysis of the fuel flexibility of a methane-based solid oxide fuel cell-gas turbine (SOFC-GT) hybrid system. The simulation models of the system are mathematically defined. Special attention is paid to the development of an SOFC thermodynamic model that allows for the calculation of radial temperature gradients. Based on the simulation model, the new design point of system for new fuels is defined first; the steady-state performance of the system fed by different fuels is then discussed. When the hybrid system operates with hydrogen, the net power output at the new design point will decrease to 70% of the methane, while the design net efficiency will decrease to 55%. Similar to hydrogen, the net output power of the ethanol-fueled system will decrease to 88% of the methane value due to the lower cooling effect of steam reforming. However, the net efficiency can remain at 61% at high level due to increased heat recuperation from exhaust gas. To increase the power output of the hybrid system operating with non-design fuels without changing the system configuration, three different measures are introduced and investigated in this paper. The introduced measures can increase the system net power output operating with hydrogen to 94% of the original value at the cost of a lower efficiency of 45%.  相似文献
