Heavy fossil fuels consumption has raised concerns over the energy security and climate change while hydrogen is regarded as the fuel of future to decarbonize global energy use. Hydrogen is commonly used as feedstocks in chemical industries and has a wide range of energy applications such as vehicle fuel, boiler fuel, and energy storage. However, the development of hydrogen energy in Malaysia is sluggish despite the predefined targets in hydrogen roadmap. This paper aims to study the future directions of hydrogen economy in Malaysia considering a variety of hydrogen applications. The potential approaches for hydrogen production, storage, distribution and application in Malaysia have been reviewed and the challenges of hydrogen economy are discussed. A conceptual framework for the accomplishment of hydrogen economy has been proposed where renewable hydrogen could penetrate Malaysia market in three phases. In the first phase, the market should aim to utilize the hydrogen as feedstock for chemical industries. Once the hydrogen production side is matured in the second phase, hydrogen should be used as fuel in internal combustion engines or burners. In the final phase hydrogen should be used as fuel for automobiles (using fuel cell), fuel-cell combined heat and power (CHP) and as energy storage.  相似文献

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the development of zero-emissions, sustainable energy systems utilising the potential of hydrogen energy technologies. However, the improper long-term economic assessment of costs and consequences of such hydrogen-based renewable energy systems has hindered the transition to the so-called hydrogen economy in many cases. One of the main reasons for this is the inefficiency of the optimization techniques employed to estimate the whole-life costs of such systems. Owing to the highly nonlinear and non-convex nature of the life-cycle cost optimization problems of sustainable energy systems using hydrogen as an energy carrier, meta-heuristic optimization techniques must be utilised to solve them. To this end, using a specifically developed artificial intelligence-based micro-grid capacity planning method, this paper examines the performances of twenty meta-heuristics in solving the optimal design problems of three conceptualised hydrogen-based micro-grids, as test-case systems. Accordingly, the obtained numeric simulation results using MATLAB indicate that some of the newly introduced meta-heuristics can play a key role in facilitating the successful, cost-effective development and implementation of hydrogen supply chain models. Notably, the moth-flame optimization algorithm is found capable of reducing the life-cycle costs of micro-grids by up to 6.5% as compared to the dragonfly algorithm.  相似文献

This paper examines the current state of the art of hydrogen refuelling stations-based production and storage systems for fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles (FCHEV). Nowadays, the emissions are increasing rapidly due to the usage of fossil fuels and the demand for hydrogen refuelling stations (HRS) is emerging to replace the conventional vehicles with FCHEVs. Hence, the availability of HRS and its economic aspects are discussed. In addition, a comprehensive study is presented on the energy storage systems such as batteries, supercapacitors and fuel cells which play a major role in the FCHEVs. An energy management system (EMS) is essential to meet the load requirement with effective utilisation of power sources with various optimizing techniques. A detailed comparative analysis is presented on the merits of Reinforcement learning (RL) for the FCHEVs. The significant challenges are discussed in depth with potential solutions for future work.  相似文献

A numerical method was developed for optimising solar–hydrogen energy system to supply renewable energy for typical household connected with the grid. The considered case study involved household located in Diyala Governorate, Iraq. The solar–hydrogen energy system was designed to meet the desired electrical load and increase the renewable energy fraction using optimum fuel cell capacity. The simulation process was conducted by MATLAB based on the experimental data for electrical load, solar radiation and ambient temperature at a 1-min time-step resolution. Results demonstrated that the optimum fuel cell capacity was approximately 2.25 kW at 1.8 kW photovoltaic power system based on the average of the daily energy consumption of 6.8 kWh. The yearly renewable energy fraction increased from 31.82% to 95.82% due to the integration of the photovoltaic system with a 2.25 kW fuel cell used as a robust energy storage unit. In addition, the energy supply, which is the economic aspect for the optimum system, levelised electricity cost by approximately $0.195/kWh. The obtained results showed that the proposed numerical analysis methodology offers a distinctive property that can be used effectively to optimise hybrid renewable energy systems.  相似文献

In this paper, the performance of a solar gas turbine (SGT) system integrated to a high temperature electrolyzer (HTE) to generate hybrid electrical power and hydrogen fuel is analyzed. The idea behind this design is to mitigate the losses in the electrical power transmission and use the enthalpy of exhaust gases released from the gas turbine (GT) to make steam for the HTE. In this context, a GT system is coupled with a solar tower including heliostat solar field and central receiver to generate electrical power. To make steam for the HTE, a flameless boiler is integrated to the SGT system applying the SGT extremely high temperature exhaust gases as the oxidizer. The results indicate that by increasing the solar receiver outlet temperature from 800 K to 1300 K, the solar share increases from 22.1% to 42.38% and the overall fuel consumption of the plant reduces from 7 kg/s to 2.7 kg/s. Furthermore, flameless mode is achievable in the boiler while the turbine inlet temperature (TIT) is maintained at the temperatures higher than 1314 K. Using constant amounts of the SGT electrical power, the HTE voltage decreases by enhancing the HTE steam temperature which result in the augmentation of the overall hydrogen production. To increase the HTE steam temperature from 950 K to 1350 K, the rate of fuel consumption in the flameless boiler increases from 0.1 m/s to 0.8 m/s; however, since the HTE hydrogen production increases from 4.24 mol/s to 16 mol/s it can be interpreted that the higher steam temperatures would be affordable. The presented hybrid system in this paper can be employed to perform more thermochemical analyses to achieve insightful understanding of the hybrid electrical power-hydrogen production systems.  相似文献

In this study, a practical fuel cell vehicle considering the Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning system is considered to analyze hydrogen consumption under different working conditions. As a prevalent hydrogen-fueled vehicle, Toyota Mirai has been meticulously modeled in Simecenter Amesim software. The simulated model covers all of the vehicle's components with a concentration on Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning system. Since the air temperature and ‘weather conditions can significantly impact the vehicle's overall performance, various environmental conditions, including temperature variations, humidity, and varied solar fluxes, are taken into account. Furthermore, New York City is chosen as a densely populated megacity to simulate the dynamic behavior of the fuel cell vehicle under actual driving circumstances. The results illustrate that the Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning system can notably alter hydrogen consumption under real driving conditions. In this regard, turning on the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning system results in a 19% increase in fuel consumption. Moreover, the degradation phenomenon, which is a typical result of using fuel cell vehicles under urban driving conditions, impacts the vehicle's mileage and hydrogen consumption. The simulation results indicate that a fresh fuel cell stack consumes 80 g of hydrogen, while for 2500 and 5500 working hours fuel cells, the stack consumes 89.6 and 107 g of hydrogen, respectively. Based on the obtained results, a 33.75% increase in fuel consumption occurs by implementing a degraded fuel cell stack under real driving conditions.  相似文献

This paper proposes an efficient hybrid technique for the system modeling and the optimal energy management of the MG with low cost. The novelty of the proposed approach is the combination of the ANFIS and MDA named as ANFMDA that performs the decision making with the multi-objective problem. Moreover, the proposed method is the cost-effective power production of the microgrids and effective utilization of renewable energy sources without wasting the available energy. The strategy is worried about the mathematical optimization problems that include in excess of one objective function to be optimized at the same time. The MDA algorithm optimizes the MG configuration at minimum fuel cost to take care of the required load demand by using the inputs of MG like WT, PV array, MT, and ESS with corresponding cost functions. In the proposed approach, the ANFIS learning phase is employed to predict the load demand. Based on the predicted load demand the minimum annual fuel cost characteristics, the operation cost and also the replacement cost is decreased with all the subsequent points of the MDA. The performance of the proposed method is examined by comparison with the other techniques such as ABC algorithm, DA, and HOMER. The comparison results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed technique and confirm its potential to solve the problem.  相似文献

This paper presents a grid-connected HRES using a hybrid controller with PHS for optimal power flow control and minimizing the production cost. The novelty of the proposed approach is the joined execution of the SSA and CSA named as SSA-CS are apparently a very new metaheuristic algorithm. Moreover, the proposed method is the cost-effective power production of the microgrids and effective utilization of renewable energy sources without wasting the available energy. Here, the energy sources in particular PV system, WT, MT and battery with PHS are utilized to generate the power of the MG system. In the proposed approach, the required power demand of the energy system is predicted by the ANN technique. After that, the production cost minimization is done in view of the anticipated load demand by utilizing the optimization approaches to be a specific SSA-CS algorithm. The result of the proposed approach is actualized in the MATLAB/Simulink working platform. The performance of the proposed approach is examined by comparing the current methodologies such as SSA and PSO with the proposed SSA-CS approach. The simulation results show that the proposed method generates maximum power and furthermore the proposed framework has less production cost in light of the power demand.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to build the first Energy and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) comparison between buses with internal combustion engine currently used in the city of Rosario, Province of Santa Fe, Argentina, and some technological alternatives and their variants focusing on buses with an electrical engine powered by compressed hydrogen that feet fuel cells of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM). This LCA comprehend raw material extraction up to its consumption as fuel. Specifically, hydrogen production considering different production processes from renewable sources called “green hydrogen” (Velazquez Abad and Dodds, 2020) [1] and non-renewable sources called “grey hydrogen” (Velazquez Abad and Dodds, 2020) [1]. Renewable sources for hydrogen production are rapid cut densified poplar energy plantation, post-industrial wood residues such as chips pallets, and maize silage. For non-renewable hydrogen production sources are the local electrical power grid from water electrolysis and natural gas from the steam methane reforming process.Buses whose fuel would be renewable hydrogen, produced near the City of Rosario, Province of Santa Fe, Argentina, meet one of the main criteria of sustainability biofuels of the European Union (EU) taken into account Renewable Energy Directive (RED) 2009/28 [2] and EU RED Directive 2018/2001 [3] that need significant reduction on net greenhouse gases (GHG) from biomass origin row material respect fossil fuels. At least 70% of GHG would be avoided from its main fossil counterpart of the intern combustion engine (ICE), in the worst and current scenario of the emission factor of the electrical grid of Argentina in the point of use that is about 0.40 kg CO2eq/kWh with energy and environmental load of 100% in the allocation factor in the hydrogen production stage of the LCA analysis.  相似文献

In this study, different hydrogen refueling station (HRS) architectures are analyzed energetically as well as economically for 2015 and 2050. For the energetic evaluation, the model published in Bauer et al. [1] is used and norm-fitting fuelings according to SAE J2601 [2] are applied. This model is extended to include an economic evaluation. The compressor (gaseous hydrogen) resp. pump (liquid hydrogen) throughput and maximum pressures and volumes of the cascaded high-pressure storage system vessels are dimensioned in a way to minimize lifecycle costs, including depreciation, capital commitment and electricity costs. Various station capacity sizes are derived and energy consumption is calculated for different ambient temperatures and different station utilizations. Investment costs and costs per fueling mass are calculated based on different station utilizations and an ambient temperature of +12 °C. In case of gaseous trucked-in hydrogen, a comparison between 5 MPa and 20 MPa low-pressure storage is conducted. For all station configurations and sizes, a medium-voltage grid connection is applied if the power load exceeds a certain limit. For stations with on-site production, the electric power load of the hydrogen production device (electrolyzer or gas reformer) is taken into account in terms of power load. Costs and energy consumption attributed to the production device are not considered in this study due to comparability to other station concepts. Therefore, grid connection costs are allocated to the fueling station part excluding the production device. The operational strategy of the production device is also considered as energy consumption of the subsequent compressor or pump and the required low-pressure storage are affected by it. All station concepts, liquid truck-supplied hydrogen as well as stations with gaseous truck-supplied or on-site produced hydrogen show a considerable cost reduction potential. Long-term specific hydrogen costs of large stations (6 dispensers) are 0.63 €/kg – 0.76 €/kg (dependent on configuration) for stations with gaseous stored hydrogen and 0.18 €/kg for stations with liquid stored hydrogen. The study focuses only on the refueling station and does not allow a statement about the overall cost-effectiveness of different pathways.  相似文献

Recently, South Korea has become a pioneer in implementing hydrogen fuel cell energy production; however, sustainable development of hydrogen fuel cell as an energy source in South Korea remains limited. Hence, it is necessary to address these challenges that hinder such development. This study aims to identify the barriers to developing hydrogen fuel cell energy in South Korea and classify them. We used the combined qualitative methodology, which includes both expert Delphi surveys and Analytic Hierarchy Process techniques. Five factors were identified, each of which has three sub-factors derived for the Delphi survey. The results show that the most serious barriers are institutional and political factors; in addition, the cost of the unit and infrastructure of the fuel cell are significant barriers.  相似文献

This paper deals with the emission reduction in synthesis-gas production by better integration and increasing the energy efficiency of a high-temperature co-electrolysis unit combined with the Fischer-Tropsch process. The investigated process utilises the by-product of Fischer-Tropsch, as an energy source and carbon dioxide as a feedstock for synthesis gas production. The proposed approach is based on adjusting process streams temperatures with the further synthesis of a new heat exchangers network and optimisation of the utility system. The potential of secondary energy resources was determined using plus/minus principles and simulation of a high-temperature co-electrolysis unit. The proposed technique maximises the economic and environmental benefits of inter-unit integration. Two scenarios were considered for sharing the high-temperature co-electrolysis and the Fischer-Tropsch process. In the first scenario, by-products from the Fischer-Tropsch process were used as fuel for a high-temperature co-electrolysis. Optimisation of secondary energy sources and the synthesis of a new heat exchanger network reduce fuel consumption by 47% and electricity by 11%. An additional environmental benefit is reflected in emission reduction by 25,145 tCO2/y. The second scenario uses fossil fuel as a primary energy source. The new exchanger network for the high-temperature co-electrolysis was built for different energy sources. The use of natural gas resulted in total annual costs of the heat exchanger network to 1,388,034 USD/y, which is 1%, 14%, 116% less than for coal, fuel oil and LPG, respectively. The use of natural gas as a fuel has the lowest carbon footprint of 7288 tCO2/y. On the other hand, coal as an energy source has commensurable economic indicators that produce 2 times more CO2, which can be used as a feedstock for a high-temperature co-electrolysis. This work shows how in-depth preliminary analysis can optimise the use of primary and secondary energy resources during inter-plant integration.  相似文献

In spite of significant achievements in alkaline exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs) in recent years, they are still lagging behind proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) due to performance instability. Among the relevant operational parameters of AEMFC, the researchers have found that poor water management within the cell was the main reason for failure of the system. In the past five years, numerous modeling and experimental works were reported proposing different strategies to improve water management of AEMFC. With proper water management, the achievable power output in AEMFCs is comparable with that of PEMFCs or even more. Efforts have to be continued, but AEMFCs can become a strong competitor in the market place. This review paper discusses the strategies and developments impacting water management of AEMFCs providing knowledge source for upcoming studies.  相似文献

This paper investigates the economics of a fuel cell bus fleet powered by hydrogen produced from electricity generated by a wind park in Austria. The main research question is to simultaneously identify the most economical hydrogen generation business model for the electric utility owning wind power plants and to evaluate the economics of operating a fuel cell bus fleet, with the core objective to minimize the total costs of the overall fuel supply (hydrogen production) and use (bus and operation) system. For that, three possible operation modes of the electrolyzer have been identified and the resulting hydrogen production costs calculated. Furthermore, an in-depth economic analysis of the fuel cell buses as well as the electrolyzer technology has been conducted. Results show that investment costs are the largest cost factor for both technologies. Thus, continuous hydrogen production with the smallest possible electrolyzer is the economically most favorable option. In such an operation mode (power grid), the costs of production per kg/H2 were the lowest. However, this means that the electrolyzer cannot be solely operated with electricity from the wind park, but is also dependent on the electricity mix from the grid. For fuel cell buses, the future cost development will depend very much on the respective policies and funding programs for the market uptake, as to date, the total cost of use for the fuel cell bus is more than two times higher than the diesel bus. The major final conclusion of this paper is that to make fuel cell electric busses competitive in the next years today severe policy interferences, such as subsidies for these busses as well as electrolyzers and bans for fossil energy, along with investments in the setup of a hydrogen infrastructure, are necessary.  相似文献

Demand for fossil fuels is increasing day by day with the increase in industrialization and energy demand in the world. For this reason, many countries are looking for alternative energy sources against this increasing energy demand. Hydrogen is an alternative fuel with high efficiency and superior properties. The development of hydrogen-powered vehicles in the transport sector is expected to reduce fuel consumption and air pollution from exhaust emissions. In this study, the use of hydrogen as a fuel in vehicles and the current experimental studies in the literature are examined and the results of using hydrogen as an additional fuel are investigated. The effects of hydrogen usage on engine performance and exhaust emissions as an additional fuel to internal combustion gasoline, diesel and LPG engines are explained. Depending on the amount of hydrogen added to the fuel system, the engine power and torque are increased at most on petrol engines, while they are decreased on LPG and diesel engines. In terms of chemical products, the emissions of harmful exhaust gases in gasoline and LPG engines are reduced, while some diesel engines increase nitrogen oxide levels. In addition, it is understood that there will be a positive effect on the environment, due to hydrogen usage in all engine types.  相似文献

Hydrogen can be a promising clean energy carrier for the replenishment of non-renewable fossil fuels. The set back of hydrogen as an alternative fuel is due to its difficulties in feasible storage and safety concerns. Current hydrogen adsorption technologies, such as cryo-compressed and liquefied storage, are costly for practical applications. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are crystalline materials that have structural versatility, high porosity and surface area, which can adsorb hydrogen efficiently. Hydrogen is adsorbed by physisorption on the MOFs through weak van der Waals force of attraction which can be easily desorbed by applying suitable heat or pressure. The strategies to improve the MOFs surface area, hydrogen uptake capacities and parameters affecting them are studied. Hydrogen spill over mechanism is found to provide high-density storage when compared to other mechanisms. MOFs can be used as proton exchange membranes to convert the stored hydrogen into electricity and can be used as electrodes for the fuel cells. In this review, we addressed the key strategies that could improve hydrogen storage properties for utilizing hydrogen as fuel and opportunities for further growth to meet energy demands.  相似文献

Airport ground operations have a great impact on the environment. Various innovative solutions have been proposed for aircraft to perform taxi movements by deactivating their main engines. Although these solutions are environmentally beneficial, onboard and external electric taxiing solutions that are actively used and planned to be used in airports are not completely carbon-free. The disadvantages of the existing solutions can be alleviated by using an external fuel cell hybrid power unit to meet the energy required for taxiing that does not put additional weight on the aircraft. To reveal the power and energy required by the system, Airbus A320-200, which is a narrow-body aircraft and frequently used in airports, has been considered in this study. To determine the physical requirements of the aircraft for taxiing, a total of 900 s taxi-out movement consisting of four different periods with different runway slope, headwind, and maximum speeds were examined. According to the determined physical requirements, the conceptual design of the proposed fuel cell battery system was created and the physical data of the system for each period were obtained using the Matlab Simulink environment. As a result of the simulation, it is seen that the system consumes approximately 1.96 g of hydrogen per second. In addition, it has been calculated that 578.34 kg of CO2 is emitted during the taxi-out movement. The results also show that as a result of using the proposed system, approximately 14.6 million tons of CO2 emission per year can be prevented.  相似文献

Hydrogen energy is increasingly incorporated into long-distance transportation systems. Whether the coupled hydrogen-based transportation system can achieve a sustainable business operation mode requires quantification of environmental and economic performance by a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis. This study proposes a cost-based life cycle assessment method to evaluate the environmental and economic benefits of hydrogen-based long-distance transportation systems. The innovative cost assessment method introduces internal and external economic costs to conduct a multi-scenario assessment. According to the key factors of mileage, government subsidies and hydrogen fuel prices, this research identifies the key cost component of the hydrogen-based transportation system in China by using a multilevel comparison with cell-driven and oil-fueled vehicles. The results show that hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles are competitive in terms of both fuel costs and environmental costs. As hydrogen costs are expected to be gradually reduced by 43% in the future, hydrogen logistics vehicles and heavy trucks are expected to have better life-cycle economics than other energy vehicles by approximately 2030. Hydrogen buses will outperform other vehicles by approximately 2033, while hydrogen passenger cars will have a reduced life-cycle cost per kilometre within 0.1 CHY/km compared to other vehicles by approximately 2035. Ultimately, fuel consumption, average annual mileage, and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle policy are three factors that have greater impacts. Policy implications are put forward to implement optimal investment plan for hydrogen transportation systems.  相似文献

Hydrogen has the highest gravimetric energy density of all fuels; however, it has a low volumetric energy density, unfavorable for storage and transportation. Hydrogen is usually liquefied to meet the bulk transportation needs. The exothermic interconversion of its spin isomers is an additional activity to an already energy-intensive process. The most significant temperature drop occurs in the precooling cycle (between ?150 °C and up to ?180 °C) and consumes more than 50% of the required energy. To reduce the energy consumption and improve the exergy efficiency of the hydrogen liquefaction process, a new high-boiling component, Hydrofluoroolefin (HFO-1234yf), is added to the precooled mixed refrigerant. As a result, the specific energy consumption of precooling cycle reduces by 41.8%, from 10.15 kWh/kgLH2 to 5.90 kWh/kgLH2, for the overall process. The exergy efficiency of the proposed case increases by 43.7%; however, the total equipment cost is also the highest. The inflated cost is primarily due to the added ortho-to-para hydrogen conversion reactor, boosting the para-hydrogen concentration. From the perspective of bulk storage and transportation of liquid hydrogen, the simplicity of design and low energy consumption build a convincing case for considering the commercialization of the process.  相似文献

Natural H2 in useful quantities is negligible, which makes hydrogen unsuitable as an energy resource compared to other fuels. H2 production by solar, biological, or electrical sources needs more energy than obtained by combusting it. Lower generation of pollutants and better energy efficiency makes hydrogen a potential energy carrier. Hydrogen finds potential applications in automobile and energy production. However, the cost of producing hydrogen is extremely high. Chemical-looping technology for H2 generation has caught widespread attention in recent years. This work, presents some recent findings and provides a comprehensive overview of different chemical looping techniques such as chemical looping reforming, syngas chemical looping, coal direct chemical looping, and chemical looping hydrogen generation method for H2 generation. The above processes are discussed in terms of the relevant chemical reactions and the associated heat of reactions to ascertain the overall endothermicity or exothermicity of the H2 production. We have compared the H2 yield data of different Fe/Ni, spinel and perovskites-based oxygen carriers (OC) reported in previous literature. This review is the first comprehensive study to compare the H2 yield data of all the previously reported oxygen carriers as a function of temperature and redox cycles. In addition, the article summarizes the characteristics and reaction mechanisms of various oxygen carrier materials used for H2 generation. Lastly, we have reviewed the application of Density Function Theory (DFT) to study the effect of various dopant addition on the efficiency of H2 production of the oxygen carriers and discussed ASPEN simulations of different chemical looping techniques.  相似文献
