The rapid development of the Internet, fast drop of storage cost, and the great improvement of storage capacity have created an environment with an enormous amount of digital data. In addition to the traditional goals like performance, scalability, availability, and reliability, other challenges including manageability, searching for the desired information, energy efficiency, long-term data preservation, and data security become increasingly important for storage systems. We first present the evolution path of the past development of storage systems. The impact of the advancement of disk technology on fault tolerance is discussed next. With the continuing growth of modern communications technology, demand for image transmission and storage is increasing rapidly. Advances in computer technology for mass storage and digital processing have paved the way for implementing advanced data compression techniques to improve the efficiency of transmission and storage of images. In this paper a large variety of algorithms for image data compression are considered. Starting with simple techniques of sampling and pulse code modulation (PCM), state of the art algorithms for two-dimensional data transmission are reviewed. Topics covered include differential PCM (DPCM) and predictive coding, transform coding, hybrid coding, interframe coding, adaptive techniques, and applications. Effects of channel errors and other miscellaneous related topics are also considered. While most of the examples and image models have been specialized for visual images, the techniques discussed here could be easily adapted more generally for multidimensional data compression. Our emphasis here is on fundamentals of the various techniques. A comprehensive bibliography with comments is included for a reader interested in further details of the theoretical and experimental results discussed here.  相似文献

为解决采集系统中大量数据存储及数据传输问题,对数据采集系统中基于单片机大容量静态存储器的应用进行了刨析。闪速存储器采用Atmel公司的AT29C040,对系统的总体设计思想及闪速存储器的特点做了阐述。给出了基于8位单片机进行4Mb高速存储器扩展的具体接口电路及其驱动程序。该系统具有在掉电情况下保存数据的功能,且具有存储数据容量大,体积小,功耗低,数据保存安全可靠等特点,适合于便携式流动性环境下的数据采集系统。  相似文献

In this paper, a Distributed In-Memory Database (DIMDB) system is proposed to improve processing efficiency in mass data applications. The system uses an enhanced language similar to Structured Query Language (SQL) with a key-value storage schema. The design goals of the DIMDB system is described and its system architecture is discussed. To identify a vehicle uniquely and automatically as it passes on the roadway without requiring any action by the driver, one general approach uses a transponder on the vehicle and an interrogator by the roadside. When the identity is passed from the interrogator to a data system which may have data storage, retrieval, computation, display, and actuation capabilities, various functions such as charging for the use of road or parking facilities, fleet management, and fine grain traffic control become possible. The main purpose is to report recent testing of such systems and consider some probable early applications. At the outset, however, the functional requirements are discussed in more detail, and the background of automatic vehicle identification (AVI) development and testing is briefly reviewed.  相似文献

凭借着存储密度大和存储速率高的特点,基于NANDFlash的大容量存储器在星载存储领域得到了广泛的应用,由于NAND Flash本身存在缺陷,基于NAND Flash的大容量存储器在恶劣环境下的可靠性难以保证.提出了通过FPGA设计SRAM对关键数据三模冗余读取和缓冲、NAND Flash阵列热备份和数据的回放校验以及合理的坏块管理等措施,实现了高可靠性的大容量存储器.实验说明该系统不会因为外在偶然因素而造成数据的不完整,而且整个存储系统的成本开销相对于目前的星载存储器也非常低.  相似文献

The IBM 3850 mass storage system is a new concept in large data base storage. This paper explores the principal design objectives and the options chosen in designing the hardware and the data flow for the system. The 3850 is an approach that provides up to 472 × 109bytes of storage, gives reasonable on-line storage cost comparable to manually loaded flexible media products such as half-inch tape drives, provides internally controlled data staging at the request of the host processor, and provides a parallel-path data flow. The parallel-path data flow in turn provides multiple staging and destaging-plus increased availability of data--by using full multiple data paths for all data.  相似文献
