A type of feedback linearizing excitation control is simulated on a very large (5000-bus) model of the Northeast Power Coordinating Council System. The control is implemented on two groups of machines, one in the New York City/Long Island area and one in the Lake Ontario area of New York State. A series of system faults is simulated, the most serious involving the loss of a very large portion of the transmission capacity from Northwest New York State to the New York City area, under extreme loading conditions. The nonlinear control prevents a breakup of the system which would otherwise result in a widespread blackout, at the expense of a rise in the system voltage at the Lake Ontario end. Simulations are also run with PSS/static exciter combinations on the same groups of generators, as a rough comparison of the performance of conventional vs. feedback linearizing control 相似文献

Horatio Burt Williams was likely the first American clinical electrophysiologist. He published the first paper on ECG in the western hemisphere, constructed the first string galvanometer in America, plotted the first vectorcardiogram, discovered the ventricular vulnerable period, and first quantitated the amount of 60-Hz current required to produce ventricular fibrillation with body-surface electrodes; he also showed that ventricular defibrillation could be achieved with body-surface electrodes using high-intensity 60-Hz current. Williams died at the age of 78 on November 1, 1955, at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York. He was born on September 17, 1877, in Utica, New York 相似文献

In the United States, Lee De Forest, who patented the first triode vacuum tube (audion) in 1907 and 1908, was experimenting with a high-frequency spark-gap generator for use in surgery and filed a U.S. patent application describing his work on 10 February 1907, which was issued on 17 December 1907. This device was the first electrosurgical unit, and there are no better words than his own in his patent for describing it; he stated: Be it known that I, Lee De Forest, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful improvement in Cauteries, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates to devices for producing burning effects by means of high-frequency electrical currents, and more particularly to cauteries employed in surgery. (A cautery is a heated rod used to cut and coagulate living tissue.) I have discovered that when a conductor is attached to any part of a high-frequency oscillating circuit, the high-frequency electrical current passing into a body, for example, a human body, will produce a heating or burning effect at the point of contact of the electrode conveying such currents to said body, and that the intensity of said heating or burning effect is inversely proportional to the terminal area of said electrode. If therefore the electrode ends in a fine point or cutting edge, or relatively small area of other shape, an extremely intense burning effect may be obtained. 相似文献

A test procedure was developed to obtain accurate governor models for hydroelectric stations owned by the New York Power Authority to improve the accuracy of stability simulations of the New York State system. Tests were performed on units at three stations and values for parameters of previously available model structures were derived from the information obtained during these tests. However, it was found that the model structures were not adequate to represent the entire range of operating conditions. Additional examination of test measurements and model structures indicated that the model structure needed to be refined. This paper reports on the refinements made to the hydro turbine-governor models which enabled reproduction of the physical system responses. Simulation results indicate that the refined models with the corresponding identified parameters produce responses which closely fit those recorded from the tests performed on three hydro units 相似文献

In this research, the fundamental premises for deregulation of the electric power industry are reevaluated. The authors develop a simple model to represent the wholesale electricity market with a highly congested network. The model is developed by simplifying the power system and market in the New York ISO based on available data for the New York ISO in 2004 along with some estimation. Based on the developed model and construction cost data from the past, the economic impact of transmission line addition on market participants and the impact of deregulation on power plant additions in a market with transmission congestion are studied. Simulation results show that market signals may fail to facilitate proper capacity additions and results in the undesirable overconstruction and insufficient construction cycle of capacity addition. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Access to and affordability of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure are the two prominent barriers for EV adopttion. While major efforts are underway in the United States to roll-out public EV charging infrastructure, persistent social disparities in EV adoption call for interventions. In this paper, we analyze the existing EV charging infrastructure across New York City (NYC) to identify such socio-demographic and transportation features that correlate with the current distribution of EV charging stations. Our results demonstrate that population density is not correlated with the density of EV chargers, hindering New York’s EV adoption and decarbonization goals. On the contrary, the distribution of EV charging stations is heavily skewed against low–income, Black–identifying, and disinvested neighborhoods in NYC, however, positively correlated to presence of highways in a zip code. The results underscore the need for policy frameworks that incorporate equity and justice in the roll-out of EV charging infrastructure. 相似文献

This work demonstrates the application of Genetic Algorithm (GA) technique for the simultaneous stabilization of power systems using a Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC). The GA is applied to find the optimal location of the UPFC and to tune its control parameters under different operating conditions. The problem is formulated as a multiobjective optimization problem which aims at maximizing the damping ratio of the electromechanical modes using different lines fitted with the UPFC. The approach is successfully tested on the 16-machine 68-bus New England–New York interconnected system and on the Iraqi National Super Grid System (INSGS) to validate its effectiveness in the damping of local and inter-area modes of oscillations. In addition, the proposed approach demonstrated better performance when compared to a fuzzy-based UPFC damping controller. 相似文献
