Vehicular Pollution and environmental degradation are on the rise with increasing vehicles and to stop this strict regulation have been put on vehicular emissions. Also, the depleting fossil fuels are of great concern for energy security. This has motivated the researchers to invest considerable resources in finding cleaner burning, sustainable and renewable fuels. However renewable fuels independently are not sufficient to deal with the problem at hand due to supply constraints. Hence, advanced combustion technologies such as homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI), low-temperature combustion (LTC), and dual fuel engines are extensively researched upon. In this context, this work investigates dual fuel mode combustion using a constant speed diesel engine, operated using hydrogen and diesel. The engine is operated at 25, 50 and 75% loads and substitution of diesel energy with hydrogen energy is done as 0, 5, 10 and 20%. The effect of hydrogen energy share (HES) enhancement on engine performance and emissions is investigated. In the tested range, slightly detrimental effect of HES on brake thermal efficiency (BTE) and brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) is observed. Comparision of NO and NO2 emissions is done to understand the non-thermal influence of H2 on the NOx emissions. Hence, HES is found beneficial in reducing harmful emissions at low and mid loads.  相似文献

The utilization of renewable gaseous fuels in the diesel engine has gained significant interest in recent years due to its clean-burning nature and higher availability. In this study, hydrogen-rich reformed biogas was used as a gaseous fuel in a common rail diesel engine with diesel as pilot fuel. The hydrogen-rich reformed gas was synthesized through dry-oxidative reforming. The experimentations were performed in the load range from 6 to 24 N m with two different flow rates of gaseous fuel (0.5 and 1.5 kg/h) at a constant speed of 1800 RPM. The effects on engine performance parameters (brake thermal efficiency, brake specific energy consumption, and brake specific diesel consumption), combustion parameters (rate of pressure rise and maximum heat release rate) and emission parameters (Unburnt hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide) were assessed. The induction of gaseous fuel led to an increase in brake thermal efficiency by 10.5%, reduction in brake specific energy consumption by 13.6%, and a reduction of 26.4% in brake specific diesel consumption with a flow rate of 0.5 kg/h when compared to diesel-only mode at 24 N m load. The HC, NOX and CO2 emissions were reduced by 18.2%, 7.4% and 1.4% with a flow rate of 0.5 kg/h when compared to diesel-only mode at 24 N m load due to lower availability of carbon content in the combustible mixture. The utilization of renewable fuel like hydrogen-rich reformed biogas has great potential for overcoming the issue related to both biogas and hydrogen in diesel engines. Moreover, the higher diesel substitution also demonstrates the potential for cost-saving and fossil fuel conservation.  相似文献

Diesel engines are indispensable in daily life. However, the limited supply of petroleum fuels and the stringent regulations on such fuels are forcing researchers to study the use of hydrogen as a fuel. In this study, a diesel engine is operated using hydrogen–diesel dual fuel, where hydrogen is introduced into the intake manifold using an LPG-CNG injector and pilot diesel is injected using diesel injectors. The energy contents of the total fuel, 0%, 16%, 36% and 46% hydrogen (the 0% hydrogen energy fraction represents neat diesel fuel), were tested at 1300 rpm of constant engine speed and 5.1 kW of constant indicated power. According to test results, the indicated thermal efficiency of the engine decreases and the isfc increases with an increasing hydrogen energy fraction. Additionally, indicated specific CO, CO2 and smoke emissions decrease with an increasing percentage of hydrogen fuel. However, indicated specific NOx emissions do not change at the 16% hydrogen energy fraction, in other words, with an increase in the hydrogen amount (36% and 46% hydrogen energy fraction of total fuel), a dramatic increase (58.8% and 159.7%, respectively) is observed. Additionally, the peak in-cylinder pressure and the peak heat release rate values increase with the increasing hydrogen rate.  相似文献

With an alarming enlargement in vehicular density, there is a threat to the environment due to toxic emissions and depleting fossil fuel reserves across the globe. This has led to the perpetual exploration of clean energy resources to establish sustainable transportation. Researchers are continuously looking for the fuels with clean emission without compromising much on vehicular performance characteristics which has already been set by efficient diesel engines. Hydrogen seems to be a promising alternative fuel for its clean combustion, recyclability and enhanced engine performance. However, problems like high NOx emissions is seen as an exclusive threat to hydrogen fuelled engines. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), on the other hand, is known to overcome the aforementioned problem. Therefore, this study is conducted to study the combined effect of hydrogen addition and EGR on the dual fuelled compression ignition engine on a single cylinder diesel engine modified to incorporate manifold hydrogen injection and controlled EGR. The experiments are conducted for 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% loads with the hydrogen energy share (HES) of 0%, 10% and 30%. The EGR rate is controlled between 0%, 5% and 10%. With no substantial decrement in engine's brake thermal efficiency, high gains in terms of emissions are observed due to synergy between hydrogen addition and EGR. The cumulative reduction of 38.4%, 27.4%, 33.4%, 32.3% and 20% with 30% HES and 10% EGR is observed for NOx, CO2, CO, THC and PM, respectively. Hence, the combination of hydrogen addition and EGR is observed to be advantageous for overall emission reduction.  相似文献

In this research work, four different diesel injection schedules have been experimented at a BMEP of 2 bar (Low load) in hydrogen diesel dual fuel (HDDF) mode, which are namely single pulse, double pulse phase-1, double pulse phase-2 and multi-pulse. The maximum possible hydrogen energy shares (HES) for single pulse, double pulse phase-1, double pulse phase-2 and multi-pulse injection schedules were 73.99%, 48.98%, 34.46% and 24.39% respectively. Over the injection schedules, double pulse phase-2 improved the brake thermal efficiency (BTE) from 19.50% (single pulse) to 21.61% with a penalty in NO emission. On the other hand, multi-pulse moderately increased the BTE with significant reduction in NO beside rise in smoke emission. At a BMEP of 5 bar (Medium load) operation, there was a considerable reduction in NO emission at maximum range of HES level with 18.21% of EGR, moreover the engine stability was improved with minor increase in smoke emission.  相似文献

The prime intention of this work is to provide a maximum replacement for diesel using hydrogen in a common rail direct injection equipped diesel engine. The experiment was conducted upto 5.2 kW brake power constant speed water-cooled engine. In the combustion chamber, diesel fuel was injected at a crank angle of 23⁰ bTDC, making it an ignitor for the premixed mixture of hydrogen and air. Hydrogen is injected at 6 different proportions ranging from 6 to 36 liter per min (LPM). The air and hydrogen gas were mixed homogeneously using the timed manifold injection technique, which was controlled through the in-house PC based data acquisition (DAQ) program developed on data factory. The electronic control unit helps to induct the hydrogen for a period of 211⁰ CA during the suction stroke. Performance, emission and combustion studies were made with the different levels of hydrogen injection, which proves that the 30 LPM of hydrogen provide the best results. Further, 30.65% improvement was achieved in brake thermal efficiency with 23.48% decreased brake specific energy consumption. This also helped to reduce the harmful emissions like CO, CO2, UHC and smoke by 22.3%, 14%, 32.74% and 43.86%, respectively. However, oxides of nitrogen emission level was increased by 7.3% compared to that of the diesel fuel at its maximum power output setting. The duration of the combustion also reduced due to the higher flame speed character of hydrogen. Thus, the overall results conclude that the addition of hydrogen improved the performance factors and reduced all the emission values of the common rail direct injection diesel engine at an optimum level of 30 LPM.  相似文献

Today, the world faces a number of challenges on global level. The optimum replacement for fossil fuels is one of these challenges. Hydrogen in the past has been and continues to be used by numerous researchers in diesel engines. However, high NOx emissions and low replacement of hydrogen fuel are the concern with many researchers. In the present study, di-tert butyl peroxide (DTBP) has been used as an additive in diesel fuel, to investigate the performance and exhaust emissions of the diesel engine working on dual fuel mode by using hydrogen as secondary fuel. At low, medium and high load conditions, the maximum increase in brake thermal efficiency was observed to be 87.50%, 14.68% and 5.89% respectively for 1%, 3% and 5% of additive (DTBP) by 40% of hydrogen fuel substitution, as compared to diesel fuel operation. Moreover, by addition of 4% di-tert butyl peroxide (DTBP) in diesel engine working on dual fuel mode showed 33.82%, 10.27% and 29.27% reduction in NOx emission at low, medium and high load conditions respectively at 40% hydrogen substitution, as compared to dual fuel operation using hydrogen as secondary fuel without additives. By addition of 5% additive (DTBP) at 69% load condition and 40% hydrogen substitution, reduces CO emissions by 38.66% as compared to dual fuel operation, using hydrogen as secondary fuel.  相似文献

An experimental investigation on DI diesel engine with hydrogen fuel   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The internal combustion engines have already become an indispensable and integral part of our present day life style, particularly in the transportation and agricultural sectors [Nagalingam B. Properties of hydrogen. In: Proceedings of the summer school of hydrogen energy, IIT Madras, 1984]. Unfortunately the survival of these engines has, of late, been threatened due to the problems of fuel crisis and environmental pollution. Therefore, to sustain the present growth rate of civilization, a nondepletable, clean fuel must be expeditiously sought. Hydrogen exactly caters to the specified needs. Hydrogen, even though “renewable” and “clean burning”, does give rise to some undesirable combustion problems in an engine operation, such as backfire, pre-ignition, knocking and rapid rate of pressure rise [Srinivasa Rao P. Utilization of hydrogen in a dual fueled engine. In: Proceedings of the summer school of hydrogen energy, IIT Madras, 1984; Siebers DL. Hydrogen combustion under diesel engine conditions. Hydrogen Energy 1998;23:363–71]. The present investigation compares the performance and emission characteristics of a DI diesel engine with gaseous hydrogen as a fuel inducted by means of carburation technique and timed port injection technique (TPI) along with diesel as a source of ignition [Swain N, Design and testing of dedicated hydrogen-fueled engine. SAE 961077, 1996]. In the present study the specific energy consumption, NOx emission and the exhaust gas temperature increased by 6%, 8% and 14%, respectively, and brake thermal efficiency and smoke level reduced by 5% and 8%, respectively, using carburation technique compared to baseline diesel. But in the TPI technique, the specific energy consumption, exhaust gas temperature and smoke level reduced by 15%, 45% and 18%, respectively. The brake thermal efficiency and NOx increased by 17% and 34%, respectively, compared to baseline diesel. The emissions such as HC, CO, and CO2 is very low in both carburation and TPI techniques compared baseline diesel.  相似文献

Energy is an essential prerequisite for economical and social growth of any country. Skyrocketing of petroleum fuel cost s in present day has led to growing interest in alternative fuels like CNG, LPG, Producer gas, Biogas in order to provide suitable substitute to diesel for a compression ignition engine. This paper discusses some experimental investigations on dual fuel operation of a 4 cylinder (turbocharged and intercooled) 62.5 kW gen-set diesel engine with hydrogen, producer gas (PG) and mixture of producer gas and hydrogen as secondary fuels. Results on brake thermal efficiency and emissions, namely, un-burnt hydrocarbon (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), and NOx are presented here. The paper also contains vital information relating to the performances of an engine at a wide range of load conditions with different gaseous fuel substitutions. When only hydrogen is used as secondary fuel, maximum increase in the brake thermal efficiency is 7% which is obtained with 20% of secondary fuel. When only producer gas is used as secondary fuel, maximum decrease in the brake thermal efficiency of 8% is obtained with 30% of secondary fuel. Compared to the neat diesel operation, proportion of un-burnt HC and CO increases, while, emission of NOx reduces in all Cases. On the other hand, when 40% of mixture of producer gas and hydrogen is used (in the ratio (60:40) as secondary fuel, brake thermal efficiency reduces marginally by 3%. Further, shortcoming of low efficiency at lower load condition in a dual fuel operation is removed when a mixture of hydrogen and producer gas is used as the secondary fuel at higher than 13% load condition. Based on the performance studied, a mixture of producer gas and hydrogen in the proportion of 60:40 may be used as a supplementary fuel for diesel conservation.  相似文献

Diesel engines have proved its utility in transport, agriculture and power sector. Environmental norms and scared fossil fuel have attracted the attention to switch the energy demand to alternative energy source. Oil derived from Jatropha curcas plant has been considered as a sustainable substitute to diesel fuel. However, use of straight vegetable oil has encountered problem due to its high viscosity. The aim of present work is to reduce the viscosity of oil by heating from exhaust gases before fed to the engine, the study of effects of FIT (fuel inlet temperature) on engine performance and emissions using a dual fuel engine test rig with an appropriately designed shell and tube heat exchanger (with exhaust bypass arrangement). Heat exchanger was operated in such a way that it could give desired FIT. Results show that BTE (brake thermal efficiency) of engine was lower and BSEC (brake specific energy consumption) was higher when the engine was fueled with Jatropha oil as compared to diesel fuel. Increase in fuel inlet temperature resulted in increase of BTE and reduction in BSEC. Emissions of NOx from Jatropha oil during the experimental range were lower than diesel fuel and it increases with increase in FIT. CO (carbon monoxide), HC (hydrocarbon), CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions from Jatropha oil were found higher than diesel fuel. However, with increase in FIT, a downward trend was observed. Thus, by using heat exchanger preheated Jatropha oil can be a good substitute fuel for diesel engine in the near future. Optimal fuel inlet temperature was found to be 80 °C considering the BTE, BSEC and gaseous emissions.  相似文献

The high flammability of hydrogen gas gives it a steady flow without throttling in engines while operating. Such engines also include different induction/injection methods. Hydrogen fuels are encouraging fuel for applications of diesel engines in dual fuel mode operation. Engines operating with dual fuel can replace pilot injection of liquid fuel with gaseous fuels, significantly being eco-friendly. Lower particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions are the significant advantages of operating with dual fuel.Consequently, fuels used in the present work are renewable and can generate power for different applications. Hydrogen being gaseous fuel acts as an alternative and shows fascinating use along with diesel to operate the engines with lower emissions. Such engines can also be operated either by injection or induction on compression of gaseous fuels for combustion by initiating with the pilot amount of biodiesel. Present work highlights the experimental investigation conducted on dual fuel mode operation of diesel engine using Neem Oil Methyl Ester (NeOME) and producer gas with enriched hydrogen gas combination. Experiments were performed at four different manifold hydrogen gas injection timings of TDC, 5°aTDC, 10°aTDC and 15°aTDC and three injection durations of 30°CA, 60°CA, and 90°CA. Compared to baseline operation, improvement in engine performance was evaluated in combustion and its emission characteristics. Current experimental investigations revealed that the 10°aTDC hydrogen manifold injection with 60°CA injection duration showed better performance. The BTE of diesel + PG and NeOME + PG operation was found to be 28% and 23%, respectively, and the emissions level were reduced to 25.4%, 14.6%, 54.6%, and 26.8% for CO, HC, smoke, and NOx, respectively.  相似文献

With higher rate of depletion of the non-renewable fuels, the quest for an appropriate alternative fuel has gathered great momentum. Though diesel engines are the most trusted power sources in the transportation industry, due to stringent emission norms and rapid depletion of petroleum resources there has been a continuous effort to use alternative fuels. Hydrogen is one of the best alternatives for conventional fuels. Hydrogen has its own benefits and limitations in its use as a conventional fuel in automotive engine system. In the present investigation, hydrogen-enriched air is used as intake charge in a diesel engine adopting exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technique with hydrogen flow rate at 20 l/min. Experiments are conducted in a single-cylinder, four-stroke, water-cooled, direct-injection diesel engine coupled to an electrical generator. Performance parameters such as specific energy consumption, brake thermal efficiency are determined and emissions such as oxides of nitrogen, hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide, particulate matter, smoke and exhaust gas temperature are measured. Usage of hydrogen in dual fuel mode with EGR technique results in lowered smoke level, particulate and NOx emissions.  相似文献

Diesel engines provide the major power source for transportation in the world and contribute to the prosperity of the worldwide economy. However, recent concerns over the environment, increasing fuel prices and the scarcity of fuel supplies have promoted considerable interest in searching for alternatives to petroleum based fuels. Based on this background, the main purpose of this investigation is to evaluate clove stem oil (CSO) as an alternative fuel for diesel engines. To this end, an experimental investigation was performed on a four-stroke, four-cylinder water-cooled direct injection diesel engine to study the performance and emissions of an engine operated using the CSO–diesel blended fuels. The effects of the CSO–diesel blended fuels on the engine brake thermal efficiency, brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), specific energy consumption (SEC), exhaust gas temperatures and exhaust emissions were investigated. The experimental results reveal that the engine brake thermal efficiency and BSFC of the CSO–diesel blended fuels were higher than the pure diesel fuel while at the same time they exhibited a lower SEC than the latter over the entire engine load range. The variations in exhaust gas temperatures between the tested fuels were significant only at medium speed operating conditions. Furthermore, the HC emissions were lower for the CSO–diesel blended fuels than the pure diesel fuel whereas the NOx emissions were increased remarkably when the engine was fuelled with the 50% CSO–diesel blended fuel.  相似文献

Internal combustion engines continue to dominate in many fields like transportation, agriculture and power generation. Among the various alternative fuels, hydrogen is a long-term renewable and less polluting fuel (Produced from renewable energy sources). In the present experimental investigation, the performance and emission characteristics were studied on a direct injection diesel engine in dual fuel mode with hydrogen inducted along with air adopting carburetion, timed port and manifold injection techniques. Results showed that in timed port injection, the specific energy consumption reduces by 15% and smoke level by 18%. The brake thermal efficiency and NOX increases by 17% and 34% respectively compared to baseline diesel. The variation in performance between port and manifold injection is not significant. The unburnt hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide emissions are lesser in port injection. The oxides of nitrogen are higher in hydrogen operation (both port and manifold injection) compared to diesel engine. In order to reduce the NOX emissions, a selective catalytic converter was used in hydrogen port fuel injection. The NOX emission reduced upto a maximum of 74% for ANR (ratio of flow rate of ammonia to the flow rate of NO) of 1.1 with a marginal reduction in efficiency. Selective catalytic reduction technique has been found to be effective in reducing the NOX emission from hydrogen fueled diesel engines.  相似文献

The environmental degradation and depletion of fossil fuel, urges the need of renewable fuel for IC engines. Among the renewable fuel, biodiesel are widely used as alternative fuel but for recent years hydrogen is also considered as alternative fuel because of zero emission but it possess higher auto ignition temperature. In order to reduce the self-ignition temperature of hydrogen and another liquid fuel is mixed and operated as a dual fuel mode condition in CI engine. The current investigation aims to analyse the impact of natural antioxidant additive on hydrogen-enriched biodiesel operation in a diesel engine. During the experimentation process hydrogen is admitted at the intake manifold and B20 blend of juliflora biodiesel is injected in combustion cylinder. The three test fuel samples are used for the experimentation process such as diesel, B20 and B20 with hydrogen in different flow rates such as 8, 10, 12, 16,20lpm. B20 with hydrogen shows an increment of brake thermal efficiency (BTE). Among the test fuels B20 + 16lpm and B20 + 20lpm blends have better improvement of BTE of 28.815% and 28.32%, which is higher than the conventional engine at maximum load CO, HC emission is also lower for B20 + 16lpm and B20 + 20lpm than other blends but the NOx emission increases of 26 and 28% than diesel respectively. In order to minimize the NOx emission, natural antioxidant additive Melia Azedarach (MA) of 1000 ppm is added to B20 + 16lpm and found that B20 + 16lpm with MA shows an improvement of BTE 2.17% higher than B20 + 16lpm without additive and the NOx emission for B20 + 16lpm with additive is 1079 ppm, which is 21.9% lower than B20 + 16lpm without additives. Therefore B20 + 16lpm with additive is superior than other test blends.  相似文献

This paper presents some experimental investigations on dual fuel operation of a 4 cylinder (turbocharged and intercooled) 62.5 kW gen-set diesel engine with hydrogen, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and mixture of LPG and hydrogen as secondary fuels. Results on brake thermal efficiency and emissions, namely, un-burnt hydrocarbon (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), NOx and smoke are presented here. The paper also includes vital information regarding performances of the engine at a wide range of load conditions with different gaseous fuel substitutions. When only hydrogen is used as secondary fuel, maximum enhancement in the brake thermal efficiency is 17% which is obtained with 30% of secondary fuel. When only LPG is used as secondary fuel, maximum enhancement in the brake thermal efficiency (of 6%) is obtained with 40% of secondary fuel. Compared to the pure diesel operation, proportion of un-burnt HC and CO increases, while, emission of NOx and smoke reduces in both cases. On the other hand, when 40% of mixture of LPG and hydrogen is used (in the ratio 70:30) as secondary fuel, brake thermal efficiency enhances by 27% and HC emission reduces by 68%. Further, shortcoming of low efficiency at lower load condition in a dual fuel operation is removed when a mixture of hydrogen and LPG is used as the secondary fuel at higher than 10% load condition.  相似文献

The present study highlights the influence of fuel injection pressure (FIP) and fuel injection timing (FIT) of Jatropha biodiesel as pilot fuel on the performance, combustion and emission of a hydrogen dual fuel engine. The hydrogen flow rates used in this study are 5lit/min, 7lit/min, and 9lit/min. The pilot fuel is injected at three FIPs (500, 1000, and 1500 bar) and at three FITs (5°, 11°, and 17?bTDC). The results showed an increase in brake thermal efficiency (Bth)from 25.02% for base diesel operation to 32.15% for hydrogen-biodiesel dual fuel operation with 9lit/min flow rate at a FIP of 1500 bar and a FITof17?bTDC. The cylinder pressure and heat release rate (HRR) are also found to be higher for higher FIPs. Advancement in FIT is found to promote superior HRR for hydrogen dual fuel operations. The unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) and soot emissions are found to reduce by 59.52% and 46.15%, respectively, for hydrogen dual fuel operation with 9lit/min flow rate at a FIP of 1500 bar and a FIT of 11?bTDC. However, it is also observed that the oxides of nitrogen (NOX) emissions are increased by 20.61% with 9lit/min hydrogen flow rate at a FIP of 1500 bar and a FIT of 17?bTDC. Thus, this study has shown the potential of higher FIP and FIT in improving the performance, combustion and emission of a hydrogen dual fuel engine with Jatropha biodiesel as pilot fuel.

In this study, the combustion, performance and emission characteristics of CRDI diesel engine assisted CNG dual fuel research engine operated at constant speed of 1500 rpm with variable engine load (16, 20 and 24 NM) to analyses the influence of fuel injection timings (7.5, 12.5 and 17.5 SOI) and fuel injection pressure (500, 750 and 1000 bar) under reactivity-controlled compression ignition (RCCI) mode. In the case of a fuel injection pressure of 1000 bar, the maximum brake specific fuel consumption of 0.42 kg/kWh is registered with a brake mean effective pressure of 3.2 bar. Response surface methodology has been used in this analysis for predicting the optimal input parameters (engine load, fuel injection timing, and fuel injection pressure), which results in an optimal combination of performance (BP, BTHE, and BSFC) and emission (HC, NOx, and CO) parameters. A variety of optimal solutions based on the desirability method is obtained from the model, and optimal input parameters is suggested as load 20(Nm), injection pressure 750(Bar), and injection timing (BTDC) 12.5. Additionally, to obtain a ‘regression model’ a statistically significant test (ANOVA) is developed. Results have shown that the suggested ‘Regression Model’ is best fitted to 0.095 standard deviations, 0.972 corrected R2, and 18.482 acceptable accuracy.  相似文献

In the present study, the energy and exergy analysis were carried out for a Deutz dual fuel (diesel + hydrogen) engine at different gas fuel-air ratios (øH2 = 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, and 0.8) and constant diesel fuel amount (6.48 mg/cycle). The energy analysis was performed during a closed cycle by using a three-dimensional CFD code and combustion modeling was carried out by Extend Coherent Flame Model- Three Zone model (ECFM-3Z). For the exergy analysis, an in-house computational code is developed, which uses the results of the energy analysis at different fuel-air ratios. The cylinder pressure results for natural gas/diesel fuelled engine are verified with the experimental data in the literature, which shows a good agreement. This verification gives confidence in the model prediction for hydrogen- fuelled case. With crank position at different gas fuel-air ratios, various rate and cumulative exergy components are identified and calculated separately. It is found that as gas fuel-air ratio increases from 0.3 to 0.8, the exergy efficiency decreases from 43.7% to 34.5%. Furthermore, the value of irreversibility decreases from 29.8% to 26.6% of the mixture fuels chemical exergies. These values are in good agreement with data in the literature for dual fuel engines.  相似文献

This paper focuses on optimizing the hydrogen TMI (timed manifold injection) system through valve lift law and hydrogen injection parameters (pressure, injection inclination and timing) in order to prevent backfire phenomena and improve the volumetric efficiency and mixture formation quality of a dual fuel diesel engine operating at high load and high hydrogen energy share. This was achieved through a numerical simulation using CFD code ANSYS Fluent, developed for a single cylinder hydrogen-diesel dual fuel engine, at constant engine speed of 1500 rpm, 90% of load and 42.5% hydrogen energy share. The developed tool was validated using experimental data. As a results, the operating conditions of maximum valve lift = 10.60 mm and inlet valve closing = 30 °CA ABDC (MVL10 IVC30) prevent the engine from backfire and pre-ignition, and ensure a high volumetric efficiency. Moreover, a hydrogen start of injection of 60 °CA ATDC (HSOI60) is appropriate to provide a pre-cooling effect and thus, reduce the pre-ignition sources and helps to quench any hot residual combustion products. While, the hydrogen injection pressure of 2.7 bar and an inclination of 60°, stimulate a better quality of hydrogen-air mixture. Afterwards, a comparison between combustion characteristics of the optimized hydrogen-diesel dual fuel mode and the baseline (diesel mode) was conducted. The result was, under dual fuel mode there is an increase in combustion characteristics and NOx emissions as well as a decrease in CO2 emissions. For further improvement of dual fuel mode, retarding diesel start of injection (DSOI) strategy was used.  相似文献
