In this thermodynamic investigation, an integrated energy system based on hydrogen fuel is developed and studied energetically and exergetically. The liquefied hydrogen fueled solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) based system is then integrated with a steam producing cycle to supply electricity and potable water to ships. The first heat recovery system, after the fuel cells provide thrust for the ship, is by means of a turbine while the second heat recovery system drives the ship's refrigeration cycle. This study includes energy and exergy performance evaluations of SOFC, refrigeration cycle and ship thrust engine systems. Furthermore, the effectiveness of SOFCs and a hydrogen fueled engine in reducing greenhouse gas emissions are assessed parametrically through a case study. The main propulsion, power generation from the solid oxide fuel cells, absorption chiller, and steam bottoming cycle systems together have the overall energy and exergy efficiencies of 41.53% and 37.13%, respectively.  相似文献

A necessary step in the use of natural gas (methane) in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) is its preliminary conversion to hydrogen and carbon monoxide. To perform methane conversion within fuel cells and avoid catalyst carbonization the molar ratio between methane and steam (or steam with carbon dioxide) should be 1:2 or higher at the SOFC inlet. In this article two possible technological approaches to provide this desirable ratio in a combined SOFC–gas turbine system are compared. The first approach involves generation of the required steam in the coupled gas turbine cycle. The second (which is more traditional) involves recycling some part of the exhaust gases around the anodes of the SOFC stack.  相似文献

Today, effective and low-emission energy systems have been needed to combat environmental problems and to satisfy the growing energy requirement in a sustainable way. In this case, it has gained importance to the production of different useful commodities with the multigeneration plant that is obtained by integrating different systems. With this viewpoint, the key objective of this work is to design and analyze the solar collector and combustion chamber-assisted multigeneration model for power, heating, hydrogen, ammonia and freshwater generation. A newly designed plant comprises a gas turbine cycle, which includes a parabolic dish solar collector and combustion chamber, a Rankine power plant, a multi-effect desalination part, a hydrogen generation part, an ammonia generation part, and a solid oxide fuel cell unit. Comprehensive thermodynamic modeling, economic analysis and multiobjective optimization are executed to observe the performance of the whole plant and sub-system by employing energetic and exergetic approaches. Moreover, a parametric investigation is addressed to review the impacts of some important point changes on the modeled plant's efficiency. Analyses consequences display that the power and hydrogen generation amounts are 12,835 kW and 0.0607 kgs?1. Also, freshwater generation capacity with desalination unit is computed as 4.89 kgs?1. Moreover, total cost rate of the modeled plant is computed as 1074 $/h. Finally, the evaluated plant's energetic and exergetic efficiency is 58.38% and 54.21%, respectively.  相似文献

In this study, both energetic and exergetic performances of a combined heat and power (CHP) system for vehicular applications are evaluated. This system proposes ammonia-fed solid oxide fuel cells based on proton conducting electrolyte (SOFC-H+) with a heat recovery option. Fuel consumption of combined fuel cell and energy storage system is investigated for several cases. The performance of the portable SOFC system is studied in a wide range of the cell’s average current densities and fuel utilization ratios. Considering a heat recovery option, the system exergy efficiency is calculated to be 60-90% as a function of current density, whereas energy efficiency varies between 60 and 40%, respectively. The largest exergy destructions take place in the SOFC stack, micro-turbine, and first heat exchanger. The entropy generation rate in the CHP system shows a 25% decrease for every 100 °C increase in average operating temperature.  相似文献

Increasing environmental concerns and decreasing fossil fuel sources compel engineers and scientists to find resilient, clean, and inexpensive alternative energy options Recently, the usage of renewable power resources has risen, while the efficiency improvement studies have continued. To improve the efficiency of the plants, it is of great significance to recover and use the waste heat to generate other useful products. In this paper, a novel integrated energy plant utilizing a geothermal resource to produce hydrogen, ammonia, power, fresh water, hot water, heated air for drying, heating, and cooling is designed. Hydrogen, as an energy carrier, has become an attractive choice for energy systems in recent years due to its features like high energy content, clean, bountiful supply, non-toxic and high efficiency. Furthermore in this study, hydrogen beside electricity is selected to produce and stored in a hydrogen storage tank, and some amount of hydrogen is mixed with nitrogen to compound ammonia. In order to determine the irreversibilities occurring within the system and plant performance, energy and exergy analyses are then performed accordingly. In the design of the plant, each sub-system is integrated in a sensible manner, and the streams connecting sub-systems are enumerated. Then thermodynamic balance equations, in terms of mass, energy, entropy and exergy, are introduced for each unit of the plant. Based on the system inputs and outputs, the energy and exergy efficiencies of the entire integrated plant is found to be 58.68% and 54.73% with the base parameters. The second part of the analysis contains some parametric studies to reveal how some system parameters, which are the reference temperature, geothermal resource temperature and mass flow rate, and separator inlet pressure in the geothermal cycle, affect both energy and exergy efficiencies and hence the useful outputs.  相似文献

In order to meet the energy and fuel needs of societies in a sustainable way and hence preserve the environment, there is a strong need for clean, efficient and low-emission energy systems. In this regard, it is aimed to generate cleaner energy outputs, such as electricity, hydrogen and ammonia as well as some additional useful commodities by utilizing both methane gas and the waste heat of an integrated unit to the whole system. In this paper, a novel multi-generation plant is proposed to generate power, hydrogen and ammonia as a chemical fuel, drying, freshwater, heating, and cooling. For this reason, the Brayton cycle as prime unit using methane gas is integrated into the s-CO2 power cycle, organic Rankine cycle, PEM electrolyzer, freshwater production unit, cooling cycle and dryer unit. In order then to evaluate the designed integrated multigeneration system, thermodynamic analyses and parametric studies are performed, revealing that the energy and exergy efficiencies of the whole plant are found to be 69.08% and 65.42%. In addition, ammonia and hydrogen production rates have been found to be 0.2462 kg/s and 0.0631 kg/s for the methane fuel mass flow rate of 1.51 kg/s. Also, the effects of the reference temperature, pinch point temperature of superheater, combustion chamber temperature, gas turbine input pressure, and mass flow rate of fuel on numerous parameters and performance of the plant are investigated.  相似文献

In this paper, a comprehensive thermodynamic evaluation of an integrated plant with biomass is investigated, according to thermodynamic laws. The modeled multi-generation plant works with biogas produced from demolition wood biomass. The plant mainly consists of a biomass gasifier cycle, clean water production system, hydrogen production, hydrogen compression, gas turbine sub-plant, and Rankine cycle. The useful outputs of this plant are hydrogen, electricity, heating and clean water. The hydrogen generation is obtained from high-temperature steam electrolyzer sub-plant. Moreover, the membrane distillation unit is used for freshwater production, and also, the hydrogen compression unit with two compressors is used for compressed hydrogen storage. On the other hand, energy and exergy analyses, as well as irreversibilities, are examined according to various factors for examining the efficiency of the examined integrated plant and sub-plants. The results demonstrate that the total energy and exergy efficiencies of the designed plant are determined as 52.84% and 46.59%. Furthermore, the whole irreversibility rate of the designed cycle is to be 37,743 kW, and the highest irreversibility rate is determined in the biomass gasification unit with 12,685 kW.  相似文献

A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC)–polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) combined system was investigated by numerical simulation. Here, the effect of the current densities in the SOFC and the PEFC stacks on the system's performance is evaluated under a constant fuel utilization condition. It is shown that the SOFC–PEFC system has an optimal combination of current densities, for which the electrical efficiency is highest. The optimal combination exists because the cell voltage in one stack increases and that of the other stack decreases when the current densities are changed. It is clarified that there is an optimal size of the PEFC stack in the parallel-fuel-feeding-type SOFC–PEFC system from the viewpoint of efficiency, although a larger PEFC stack always leads to higher electrical efficiency in the series-fuel-feeding-type SOFC–PEFC system. The 40 kW-class PEFC stack is suitable for the 110 kW-class SOFC stack in the parallel-fuel-feeding type SOFC–PEFC system.  相似文献

In this paper, the optimization of a hybrid solid oxide fuel cell–gas turbine (SOFC–GT) power plant is presented. The plant layout is based on an internal reforming SOFC stack; it also consists of a radial gas turbine, centrifugal compressors and plate-fin heat exchangers. In the first part of the paper, the bulk-flow model used to simulate the plant is presented. In the second part, a thermoeconomic model is developed by introducing capital cost functions. The whole plant is first simulated for a fixed configuration of the most important synthesis/design (S/D) parameters in order to establish a reference design configuration. Next a S/D optimization of the plant is carried out using a traditional single-level approach, based on a genetic algorithm. The optimization determined a set of S/D decision variable values with a capital cost significantly lower than that of the reference design, even though the net electrical efficiency for the optimal configuration was very close to that of the initial one. Furthermore, the optimization procedure dramatically reduced the SOFC active area and the compact heat exchanger areas.  相似文献

A detailed system study on an integrated gasifier-SOFC test system which is being constructed for combined heat and power (CHP) application is presented. The performance of the system is evaluated using thermodynamic calculations. The system includes a fixed bed gasifier and a 5 kW SOFC CHP system. Two kinds of gas cleaning systems, a combined high and low temperature gas cleaning system and a high temperature gas cleaning system, are considered to connect the gasifier and the SOFC system. A complete model of the gasifier-SOFC system with these two gas cleaning systems is built and evaluated in terms of energy and exergy efficiencies. A sensitivity study is carried out to check system responses to different working parameters. The results of this work show that the electrical efficiencies of the gasifier-SOFC CHP systems with different gas cleaning systems are almost the same whereas the gasifier-SOFC CHP systems with the high temperature gas cleaning system offers higher heat efficiency for both energy and exergy.  相似文献

Despite its shortcomings, fossil-based fuels are still utilized as the main energy source, accounting for about 80% of the world's total energy supply with about one-third of which comes from coal. However, conventional coal-fired power plants emit relatively higher amounts of greenhouse gases, and the derivatives of air pollutants, which necessitates the integration of environmentally benign technologies into the conventional power plants. In the current study, a H2–CO synthesis gas fueled solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is integrated to the coal-fired combined cycle along with a concentrated solar energy system for the purpose of promoting the cleaner energy applications in the fossil fuel-based power plants. The underlying motivation of the present study is to propose a novel design for a conventional coal-fired combined cycle without altering its main infrastructure to make its environmentally hazardous nature more ecofriendly. The proposed SOFC integrated coal-fired combined cycle is modeled thermodynamically for different types of coals, namely pet coke, Powder River Basin (PRB) coal, lignite and anthracite using the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) and the Ebsilon software packages. The current results show that the designed hybrid energy system provide higher performance with higher energy and exergy efficiencies ranging from 70.6% to 72.7% energetically and from 35.5% to 43.8% exergetically. In addition, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced varying between 18.31 kg/s and 30.09 kg/s depending on the selected coal type, under the assumption of 10 kg per second fuel inlet.  相似文献

In this paper, a solar power-based combined plant for power, hydrogen, methane, ammonia and urea production is proposed. A parabolic trough collector is utilized for the system prime mover. Moreover, steam Rankine cycle, organic Rankine cycle, hydrogen production and compression subsystem, ammonia, methane and urea production units, single-effect absorption cooling unit, and freshwater production plant are integrated together to develop the present system for better system performance and cost-effectiveness and reduced environmental impact. In order to analyze and evaluate the proposed multigeneration plant, thermodynamic, parametric and economic studies are performed. According to the assessment results, it is found that energetic and exergetic efficiencies of the present multigeneration plant are 66.12% and 61.56%, respectively. The comparisons of the subsystem and overall plant efficiencies show that the highest energetic and energetic efficiencies belong to freshwater production plant by 79.24% and 75.62%, respectively. In addition, the present parametric analysis indicates that an increase in the reference temperature, solar radiation intensity and working pressure of the solar process has a positive effect on the plant's performance. The cost analysis reveals that as the solar radiation intensity and the working pressure of the solar process increase, the hydrogen generation cost decreases. Furthermore, the hydrogen generation cost is achieved to be 1.94 $/kgH2 at 650 W/m2 of the solar radiation intensity, with other parameters remaining constant.  相似文献

An integrated process of biomass gasification and solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) is investigated using energy and exergy analyses. The performance of the system is assessed by calculating several parameters such as electrical efficiency, combined heat and power efficiency, power to heat ratio, exergy destruction ratio, and exergy efficiency. A performance comparison of power systems for different gasification agents is given by thermodynamic analysis. Exergy analysis is applied to investigate exergy destruction in components in the power systems. When using oxygen-enriched air as gasification agent, the gasifier reactor causes the greatest exergy destruction. About 29% of the chemical energy of the biomass is converted into net electric power, while about 17% of it is used to for producing hot water for district heating purposes. The total exergy efficiency of combined heat and power is 29%. For the case in which steam as the gasification agent, the highest exergy destruction lies in the air preheater due to the great temperature difference between the hot and cold side. The net electrical efficiency is about 40%. The exergy combined heat and power efficiency is above 36%, which is higher than that when air or oxygen-enriched air as gasification agent.  相似文献

The study examines a novel system that combined a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) for cooling, heating and power production (trigeneration) through exergy analysis. The system consists of an SOFC, an ORC, a heat exchanger and a single-effect absorption chiller. The system is modeled to produce a net electricity of around 500 kW. The study reveals that there is 3-25% gain on exergy efficiency when trigeneration is used compared with the power cycle only. Also, the study shows that as the current density of the SOFC increases, the exergy efficiencies of power cycle, cooling cogeneration, heating cogeneration and trigeneration decreases. In addition, it was shown that the effect of changing the turbine inlet pressure and ORC pump inlet temperature are insignificant on the exergy efficiencies of the power cycle, cooling cogeneration, heating cogeneration and trigeneration. Also, the study reveals that the significant sources of exergy destruction are the ORC evaporator, air heat exchanger at the SOFC inlet and heating process heat exchanger.  相似文献

This study presents an analysis and assessment study of an integrated system which consists of cryogenic air separation unit, polymer electrolyte membrane electrolyzer and reactor to produce ammonia for a selected case study application in Istanbul, Turkey. A thermodynamic analysis of the proposed system illustrates that electricity consumption of PEM electrolyzer is 3410 kW while 585.4 kW heat is released from ammonia reactor. The maximum energy and exergy efficiencies of the ammonia production system which are observed at daily average irradiance of 200 W/m2 are found as 26.08% and 30.17%, respectively. The parametric works are utilized to find out the impacts of inlet air conditions and solar radiation intensity on system performance. An increase in the solar radiation intensity results in a decrease of the efficiencies due to higher potential of solar influx. Moreover, the mass flow rate of inlet air has a substantial effect on ammonia production concerning the variation of generated nitrogen. The system has a capacity of 0.22 kg/s ammonia production which is synthesized by 0.04 kg/s H2 from PEM electrolyzer and 0.18 kg/s N2 from a cryogenic air separation unit. The highest exergy destruction rate belongs to PEM electrolyzer as 736.2 kW while the lowest destruction rate is calculated as 3.4 kW for the separation column.  相似文献

Both high temperature (HT) and intermediate temperature (IT) SOFC performances are evaluated using numerical models that are built in Aspen customer modeller and integrated in Aspen Plus™. Two types of combined cycles are compared: a combined cycle consisting of a two-staged combination of IT-SOFC and HT-SOFC and another consisting of two stages of IT-SOFC. In both combined cycles, the anode flows of the first and second stage fuel cell stacks are connected in parallel while the cathode flow is connected serially. The simulation results show that a single-staged HT/SOFC and IT/SOFC have an efficiency of 57.6% and 62.3%, respectively. A combined cycle of two-staged IT-SOFC can give 65.5% under standard operational conditions. Furthermore, by optimizing the heat recovery and the gas turbine use, the efficiency can go up to 68.3%.  相似文献

A new integrated power generation system driven by the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is proposed to improve the conversion efficiency of conventional energy by using a Kalina cycle to recover the waste heat of exhaust from the SOFC-GT. The system using methane as main fuel consists an internal reforming SOFC, an after-burner, a gas turbine, preheaters, compressors and a Kalina cycle. The proposed system is simulated based on the developed mathematical models, and the overall system performance has been evaluated by the first and second law of thermodynamics. Exergy analysis is conducted to indicate the thermodynamic losses in each components. A parametric analysis is also carried out to examine the effects of some key thermodynamic parameters on the system performance. Results indicate that as compressor pressure ratio increases, SOFC electrical efficiency increases and there is an optimal compressor pressure ratio to reach the maximum overall electrical efficiency and exergy efficiency. It is also found that SOFC electrical efficiency, overall electrical efficiency and exergy efficiency can be improved by increasing air flow rate. Also, the largest exergy destruction occurs in the SOFC followed by the after-burner, the waste heat boiler, the gas turbine. The compressor pressure ratio and air flow rate have significant effects on the exergy destruction in some main components of system.  相似文献
