Most of the colour‐difference formulae were developed to fit data sets having a limited range of colour‐difference magnitudes. Hence, their performances are uncertain when applying them to a range of colour differences from very small to very large colour differences. This article describes an experiment including three parts according to the colour‐difference magnitudes: large colour difference (LCD), small colour difference (SCD), and threshold colour difference (TCD) corresponding to mean ΔE values of 50.3, 3.5, and 0.6, respectively. Three visual assessment techniques were used: ratio judgement, pair comparison, and threshold for LCD, SCD, and TCD experiments, respectively. Three data sets were used to test six colour‐difference formulae and uniform colour spaces (CIELAB, CIE94, CIEDE2000, CAM02‐SCD, CAM02‐UCS, and CAM02‐LCD). The results showed that all formulae predicted visual results with great accuracy except CIELAB. CIEDE2000 worked effectively for the full range of colour differences, i.e., it performed the best for the TCD and SCD data and reasonably well for the LCD data. This study investigated the differences between different large colour‐difference (LCD) data sets (with a mean ΔE value about 10). Six data sets were studied. For each data set, various CIELAB based colour difference models were derived to fit the data. These models were compared to shed light on the difference between the different data sets. It was found that all data sets have very similar characteristics except for the Munsell data. Detailed investigation showed that the discrepancy is mainly due to the balance between the lightness and chromatic differences used previously for the Munsell data set. It was found that one unit of Munsell Value appears to be three times as large colour difference as one unit of Munsell Chroma at least under the experimental conditions for the data sets studied here. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Study of various color difference formulas by the Riemannian approach is useful. By this approach, it is possible to evaluate the performance of various color difference formulas having different color spaces for measuring visual color difference. In this article, the authors present mathematical formulations of CIELAB (ΔE), CIELUV (ΔE), OSA‐UCS (ΔEE) and infinitesimal approximation of CIEDE2000 (ΔE00) as Riemannian metric tensors in a color space. It is shown how such metrics are transformed in other color spaces by means of Jacobian matrices. The coefficients of such metrics give equi‐distance ellipsoids in three dimensions and ellipses in two dimensions. A method is also proposed for comparing the similarity between a pair of ellipses. The technique works by calculating the ratio of the area of intersection and the area of union of a pair of ellipses. The performance of these four color difference formulas is evaluated by comparing computed ellipses with experimentally observed ellipses in the xy chromaticity diagram. The result shows that there is no significant difference between the Riemannized ΔE00 and the ΔEE at small color difference, but they are both notably better than ΔE and ΔE. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An experimental approach is described for measuring colour discrimination thresholds of human observers. Special software was developed for the accurate display of colour pairs on a high resolution CRT, using serial feedback from a spectroradiometer. Discrimination thresholds between a test and a target colour are determined by repeatedly showing an observer a circle composed of four separate quadrants, one of which has a different colour from the other three. Three quadrants are of the test colour and one of the target colour, or vice versa. Observers are asked to select the quadrant that differs from the others. An experiment is described where hue‐dependent effects affecting hue discrimination are investigated. Eighteen hue threshold values around the hue circle, at constant L = 51 and C = 25, were measured for three observers. Hue thresholds were found to vary around the hue circle, exhibiting an abrupt change in the blue to purple region (240° ≤ hab,10 = 300°) This change is not fully accounted for by any CIELAB‐based colour difference formula, including the most recent CIEDE2000 formula. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A grey‐scale psychophysical experiment was carried out for evaluating colour differences using printed colour patches. In total, 446 pairs of printed samples were prepared surrounding 17 colour centers recommended by the CIE with an average δE of 3 units. Each pair was assessed 27 times by nine observers. The visual results were used to test some selected more advanced colour‐difference formulae and uniform colour spaces. The results showed that CIELAB and OSA performed the worst, and the advanced formulae and spaces gave quite satisfactory performance such as CIEDE2000, CIE94, DIN99d, CAM02‐UCS, and OSA‐GP‐Eu. The colour discrimination ellipses were used to compare with those of the earlier studies. The results showed that they agreed well with each other. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Several colour‐difference formulas such as CMC, CIE94, and CIEDE2000 have been developed by modifying CIELAB. These formulas give much better fits for experimental data based on small colour differences than does CIELAB. None of these has an associated uniform colour space (UCS). The need for a UCS is demonstrated by the widespread use of the a*b* diagram despite the lack of uniformity. This article describes the development of formulas, with the same basic structure as the DIN99 formula, that predict the experimental data sets better than do the CMC and CIE94 colour‐difference formulas and only slightly worse than CIEDE2000 (which was optimized on the experimental data). However, these formulas all have an associated UCS. The spaces are similar in form to L*a*b*. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this research, the effect of CO2 laser on various properties of polyester fabric specially dyeing was studied. Three disperse dyes of red, yellow, and blue were used and irradiation was performed before and after dyeing. To evaluate the color changes due to laser treatment, CIELAB ΔE color difference values were calculated. The morphology of the irradiated surfaces was examined by scanning electron microscopy. Other properties including color fastness, bending rigidity, wettability, and crystal size were also examined. The results revealed that laser treatment had an increasing effect on the color difference value. Among the three laser parameters examined in this work, laser power had the strongest effect. While no significant color fastness improvement with low laser intensity was observed, high‐intensity laser irradiation increased the light and rubbing fastness. Properties such as wettability and bending rigidity were negatively affected by an increase in laser intensity. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

Different values are reported in the literature for the intrinsic birefringence of the crystalline (Δn) and the amorphous (Δn) phases in nylon 6. Mostly, these values have either been determined by extrapolation (and then it is assumed that Δn = Δn) or calculated theoretically. In this study, intrinsic birefringence values Δn and Δn for nylon 6 were determined using the Samuels two-phase model which correlates sonic modulus with structural parameters. Three series of fiber samples were used: (1) isotropic samples of different degrees of crystallinity for estimation of E and E moduli at two temperatures. The following modulus values were obtained: 1.62 × 109 and 6.66 × 109 N/m2 for 28.5°C, and 1.81 × 109 and 6.71 × 109 N/m2 for ?20°C; (2) anisotropic, amorphous fiber samples for estimation of Δn = 0.076 and E = 1.63 × 109 N/m2 at 28.5°C; (3) semicrystalline samples of various draw ratios for estimations of Δn = 0.089 and Δn = 0.078. All measurements were carried out with carefully dried samples to avoid erroneous results caused by moisture.  相似文献

The inhibiting action of aniline and some of its derivatives (o‐, m‐ and p‐anisidine) towards the corrosion behaviour of nickel in 1 M HCl solution has been studied using weight loss and polarization techniques. These compounds were found to retard the corrosion rate of nickel. At constant temperature, the corrosion rate decreases with increasing inhibitor concentration. On the other hand, at any inhibitor concentration, the increase in temperature leads to an increase in the corrosion rate. The activation energy, ΔEa, the equilibrium constant, k, as well as the other thermodynamic parameters (ΔG, ΔH and ΔS) for inhibitor process were calculated and analysed. The inhibitor efficiencies calculated from both weight loss and polarization methods are in good agreement and were found to be in the order: p‐anisidine > o‐anisidine > m‐anisidine > aniline. The inhibitive action of these compounds was attributed to the adsorption of molecular species and their inhibitive efficiencies depend on the relative position of the  OCH3 group in the aniline ring. © 1999 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A new colour space, named ULAB, is developed. It is derived from the CIELAB colour space and can be converted to and from CIELAB. Unlike modified CIELAB colour‐difference formulae, ULAB incorporates corrections for lightness, chroma, and hue differences into its colour coordinates. For the small magnitude colour difference data, it shows the performance as good as more complicated formulae such as CIEDE2000. The use of colorimetry within industry has grown extensively in the last few decades. Central to many of today's instruments is the CIE system, established in 1931. Many have questioned the validity of the assumptions made by Wright1 and Guild,2 some suggesting that the 1931 color‐matching functions are not the best representation of the human visual system's cone responses. A computational analysis was performed using metameric data to evaluate the CIE 1931 color‐matching functions as compared to with other responsivity functions. The underlying assumption was that an optimal set of responsivity functions would yield minimal color‐difference error between pairs of visually matched metamers. The difference of average color differences found in the six chosen sets of responsivity functions was small. The CIE 1931 2° color‐matching functions on average yielded the largest color difference, 4.56 ΔE. The best performance came from the CIE 1964 10° color‐matching functions, which yielded an average color difference of 4.02 ΔE. An optimization was then performed to derive a new set of color‐matching functions that were visually matched using metameric pairs of spectral data. If all pairs were to be optimized to globally minimize the average color difference, it is expected that this would produce an optimal set of responsivity functions. The optimum solution was to use a weighted combination of each set of responsivity functions. The optimized set, called the Shaw and Fairchild responsivity functions, was able to reduce the average color difference to 3.92 ΔE. In the final part of this study a computer‐based simulation of the color differences between the sets of responsivity functions was built. This simulation allowed a user to load a spectral radiance or a spectral reflectance data file and display the tristimulus match predicted by each of the seven sets of responsivity functions. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Riemannian metric tensors of color difference formulas are derived from the line elements in a color space. The shortest curve between two points in a color space can be calculated from the metric tensors. This shortest curve is called a geodesic. In this article, the authors present computed geodesic curves and corresponding contours of the CIELAB ( ), the CIELUV ( ), the OSA‐UCS (ΔEE) and an infinitesimal approximation of the CIEDE2000 (ΔE00) color difference metrics in the CIELAB color space. At a fixed value of lightness L*, geodesic curves originating from the achromatic point and their corresponding contours of the above four formulas in the CIELAB color space can be described as hue geodesics and chroma contours. The Munsell chromas and hue circles at the Munsell values 3, 5, and 7 are compared with computed hue geodesics and chroma contours of these formulas at three different fixed lightness values. It is found that the Munsell chromas and hue circles do not the match the computed hue geodesics and chroma contours of above mentioned formulas at different Munsell values. The results also show that the distribution of color stimuli predicted by the infinitesimal approximation of CIEDE2000 (ΔE00) and the OSA‐UCS (ΔEE) in the CIELAB color space are in general not better than the conventional CIELAB (ΔE) and CIELUV (ΔE) formulas. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Spectroradiometric color measurements were performed at 26 regularly spaced points of a standard wine sampler into which 100 cc of wine were poured. Our goal is to describe the color changes occurring in this system, but not to propose a new method for wine‐color measurement. Three samples of three different wines (red, rosé and white) were studied. From experimental measurements, lines of constant lightness (L), chroma (C,10) and hue‐angle (hab,10) were plotted for each wine poured into the wine sampler, as well as lines of constant CIELAB color differences (ΔE,10), with respect to a reference point placed at the axis of the wine sampler and at the zone with the greatest diameter. Considering different points of the wine sampler, the color attribute undergoing the greatest change was lightness (ΔL about 16.0, 15.0 and 11.0 for the red, rosé and white wines, respectively), followed by chroma (ΔC,10 about 2.8, 3.8 and 2.6 for the red, rosé and white wines, respectively) and hue(ΔH,10 lower than 1.0 for all the wines). Lightness variations were related mainly to the thickness differences between various zones of the wine sampler. Large color differences were found among the different points of the wine poured into the wine sampler (about 20.0, 21.0 and 14.0 CIELAB units, for the red, rosé and white wines, respectively). Panels should be aware of these large color variations when wine is visually assessed using standard wine samplers. It should be concluded that a single color specification for a wine poured into a wine sampler gives incomplete information, but hue, which is the main color attribute considered by observers, is nearly constant in the wine sampler. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dynamic viscoelastic properties of Vulcan XC 72 (excess conductive carbon black)‐reinforced solid‐ and closed‐cell microcellular controlled long chain branching grade oil‐extended EPDM (Keltan 7341A) rubber vulcanizates were studied at four frequencies of 3.5, 11, 35, and 110 Hz, and at a temperature range of ?100 to 160°C.The effect of blowing agent (ADC 21) loading on storage modulus (E′) and loss tangent (tan δ) was studied. The log of storage modulus bears a linear relationship with the log of density for both solid and microcellular rubber. Relative storage modulus (E/E) decreases with decrease in relative density (ρfs). Both E′ and tan δ were found to be dependent on frequency and temperature. The master curves of the storage modulus versus log temperature‐reduced frequency were formed by superimposing E′ results and by using shift factors calculated by Arrhenius equation. Strain‐dependent isothermal dynamic viscoelastic properties were carried out for dynamic strain amplitude of 0.08–7%. Cole–Cole plots of microcellular vulcanizates show a circular arc with blowing agent (density). Empirical relationship between tan δ versus E′ is found to be linear, whose slope is independent of blowing agent loading or density. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Commercial ICC‐compliant color‐management software was used to produce color‐managed CMYK‐encoded images for the third edition of Principles of Color Technology. Custom profiles were created for a Scitex Eversmart Pro flatbed scanner and a Kodak Approval proofing device. This enabled objects such as color‐order systems and colorimetric‐encoded, computer‐generated graphical images to be reproduced with reasonable colorimetric accuracy. The GretagMacbeth ColorChecker Color Rendition Chart was used as an independent verification target. Its printed reproduction had an average error of 4.2 ΔE (6.4 ΔE*ab). Colorimetric‐rendering device profiles enabled the visualization of the book's color gamut and of a calibrated visible spectrum. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The elastic constants of closed mesh braided/woven fabrics are generally obtained from finite element analysis, fabric geometry model, and modified classical laminate plate theory. These models are complex and often impractical for industrial design purposes and do not address the cases of open mesh braided/woven fabrics. This paper proposes an alternative to existing models and software packages. Simple regression‐based empirical equations were developed to obtain Ex, Ey, Gxy, and νxy of braided/woven fabrics at any angle‐ply angle using the braid/weave unit cell volume fraction (Vf0), the fiber volume fraction (Vf), and the elastic constants of an equivalent angle‐ply laminate (E, E, G, ν). Design equation predictions were verified by comparing them to a previously validated modified classical laminate plate theory (CLPT) model using various fiber/resin combinations. The computed dependencies of elastic characteristics of branched-network polymers were obtained on the basis of the Takayanagi series model. The moduli ratio (λ) for branched-network and branched polymers increases as a result of an increase of the moduli ratio of network and branched phases (E/E) and the network phase fraction (Vnet). The λ-increase as a function of Vnet is larger than in the case of the E/E dependence. On the basis of computed dependencies, the experimental results for the radiation crosslinked SBS block copolymer were considered. The experimental results agree with the computed de-pendencies for the hetergeneous branched-network polymers with E/E ≈︁ 20. The influence of entanglements on the elastic characteristics of branched-network polymers is discussed. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The tensile behavior of polyethylene/ethylene vinyl acetate (PE/EVA) polymer blends filled with calcium carbonate (CaCO3) was studied using tensile and viscoelastic tests. The relations between tensile properties (modulus, strength, etc) of oriented and unoriented PE/EVA-CaCO3, and void volume of polymer/CaCO3 interface, PE/EVA blend ratio, and CaCO3 content were investigated. The results indicated that the tensile strength and elongation of PE/EVA-CaCO3 decreased with CaCO3 content and PE blend ratio for unoriented PE/EVA-CaCO3 systems. In the case of oriented samples, the relative modulus (E/E, where E and E are the modulus of oriented composites and the modulus of oriented matrix, respectively) of PE/EVA-CaCO3 is larger than that of PE/CaCO3 by increasing the EVA content relative to PE and CaCO3. The value of E/E can be simply expressed as the function of void volume and CaCO3 modulus to polymer matrix modulus.  相似文献

Surface activity and micellar behavior in aqueous media in the temperature range 20–50°C of the two block copolymers, Me2N(CH2)2OE39B18, (DE40B18) and I?Me3N+(CH2)2OE39B18, (TE40B18) in the premicellar and postmicellar regions have been studied by surface tensiometry, viscometry, and densitometry. Where E represents an oxyethylene unit while B an oxybutylene unit. Various fundamental parameters such as, surface excess concentrations (Γm), area per molecule (a) at air/water interface and standard Gibbs free energy for adsorption, ΔG have been investigated for the premicellar region at several temperatures. The thermodynamic parameters of micellization such as, critical micelle concentrations, CMC, enthalpy of micellization, ΔH, standard free energy of micellization ΔG, and entropy of micellization ΔS have also been calculated from surface tension measurements. Dilute solution viscosities have been used to estimate the intrinsic viscosities, solute‐solvent interaction parameter and hydration of micelle. Partial specific volume and density of the micelle were obtained from the density measurements at various temperatures. The effect of modifying the end group of the hydrophilic block was investigated by comparing the behavior of trimethylammonium‐ and dimethylamino‐tipped copolymers, designated TE40B18, and DE40B18, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
