The main contribution of the work is to develop an intelligent system for manufacturing features in the area of CAD/CAM. It brings the design and manufacturing phase together in design stage and provides an intelligent interface between design and manufacturing data by developing a library of features. The library is called manufacturing feature library which is linked with commercial CAD/CAM software package named Creo Elements/Pro by toolkit. Inside the library, manufacturing features are organised hierarchically. A systematic database system also have been developed and analysed for each feature consists of parameterised geometry, manufacturing information (including machine tool, cutting tools, cutting conditions, cutting fluids and recommended tolerances and surface finishing values, etc.), design limitations, functionality guidelines, and Design-for-manufacture guidelines. The approach has been applied in two case studies in which a rotational part (shaft) and a non-rotational part are designed through manufacturing features. Therefore, from manufacturing feature library a design can compose entirely in a bottom-up manner using manufacturable entities in the same way as they would be produced during the manufacturing phase. Upon insertion of a feature, the system ensures that no functionality or manufacturing guidelines are violated. The designers are warned if they attempt to include features that violate Design-for-manufacture and Design functionality guidelines. If a feature is modified, the system validates the feature by making sure that it remains consistent with its original functionality and Design-for-manufacture guidelines are re-applied. The system will be helped the process planner/manufacturing engineer by automatically creating work-piece data structure. 相似文献

This paper addresses the trade-off between structural performance and manufacturing cost of heavy load carrying components
by incorporating virtual machining (VM) technique in computer-aided design (CAD)-based shape optimization problem. A structural
shape optimization problem is set up to minimize total cost, subject to the limits on structural performance measures. For
every design iteration, finite element analysis (FEA) is conducted to evaluate structural performance, and VM is employed
to ascertain machinability and estimate machining time. Design sensitivity coefficients of objective function and constraints
are computed and supplied to the optimization algorithm. Based on the gradients, the algorithm determines design changes,
which are used to update FEA and VM models. The process is repeated until specified convergence criterion is satisfied. Application
programs developed to integrate commercially available CAD/CAM/FEA/Design optimization tools enable implementation in virtual
environment and facilitate automation. The application programs can be reused for similar design problems provided that the

Various 3D modeling software has been developed for design and manufacturing.Most of the commercially available software uses native file formats,which may not be able to be read or understood by other software.This paper deals with the development of a generic approach of a 3D model conversion program for virtual manufacturing(VM),using a lexical analyzer generator Lex and the Open Graphic Library(OpenGL).The program is able to convert 3D mesh data between four universal file formats,i.e.,Stereolithography(STL),Virtual Reality Modeling Language(VRML),eXtensible Markup Language(XML),and Object(OBJ).Simple assembly functions can be applied to the imported models.The quaternion angle is used for object rotation to overcome the problem of gimbal lock or a loss of one degree of rotational freedom.The program has been validated by importing the neutral format models into the program,applying the transformation,saving the new models with a new coordinate system,and lastly exporting into other commercial software.The results showed that the program is able to render and re-arrange accurately the geometry data from the different universal file formats and that it can be used in VM.Therefore,the output models from a VM system can be transferred or imported to another VM system in a universal file format. 相似文献
