In architectural education, graduation projects represent the transition from academia to the profession, and they are the courses that encourage architecture students to demonstrate the knowledge acquired and the skills developed throughout the educational program. This study aims to explore the instructors’ perspectives on improving the pedagogy of architectural graduation projects. To achieve this aim, this study has adopted a qualitative method, applied analytical and deductive methodologies, and conducted a survey among 44 academic architects from architectural schools worldwide. This paper is structured into three sections. The first section provides an overview of the topic and its current related issues. The second section introduces the survey, its methods, tools, and procedures, and the participants’ profiles. The third section presents the qualitative survey findings and their discussion. The conclusions of this study confirm the results of some previous studies. Some conclusions contradict common practices related to graduation projects, but the original approaches have been provided. The importance of this study inherits the relevance of adopting these courses; that is, for educators and employers to assess the extent to which graduates have acquired the competence necessary to practice architecture.  相似文献

One of the approaches used by educational institutions to ensure that their programs reflect advances and changes in the architectural profession is the inclusion of elective courses. This study aims to establish a basis for integrating elective courses into architectural curricula by investigating the component of elective courses in 30 highly-ranked undergraduate architectural programs around the world. The need for this study arose as a result of the limited literature and lack of scientific foundation with which to support the process of merging elective courses into architectural curricula. This study has raised many questions in terms of direction, amount, subject, and timing of elective courses in architectural education. This study adopts an analytical deductive methodology supported by quantitative research. It is structured into four sections: topic overview, survey and its procedures, findings of the survey, anddiscussion. The discussion includes a proposal for integrating elective courses into architectural education. This study draws conclusions to its research questions, which broadens its impact on the quality of architectural programs and benefits for those concerned with architectural accreditation.  相似文献

本研究基于CDIO工程教育的构思、设计、实现和运作一体化教学计划理念,分析土木工程专业建筑类课程一体化教学设计和课程的选修学期等特点对学生知识体系架构的形成和毕业设计质量的影响,以此探索通过建筑类课程的一体化教学设计提高土木工程专业毕业设计质量和学生执业能力的方法。研究将作者所属高校2017届至2020届毕业生作为对象。结果表明,建筑类课程循序渐进的一体化教学设计,有助于学生对建筑知识的全面掌握。同时,虽教学团队从“授”的角度对建筑类课程间的连贯性具有明确的认知,但学生从“受”的角度,对课程间的连贯性认知尚不明确,停留于对每门课程内容的掌握,未能达到CDIO所要求的“一体化学习经验”。  相似文献

针对我国建筑学专业本科教育中普遍存在的重艺术轻技术、学生学习建筑技术类课程动力不足等问题,综合运用定量研究和定性研究,开展了建筑技术类课程现状调研与教学方法探讨工作。对河北工业大学63名建筑学专业本科生所有建筑技术类课程、设计类课程的单门课程成绩和学年课程模块成绩进行了统计,结合问卷调查,分析了建筑技术类课程和设计类课程的相关性、课程体系设计和教学的薄弱环节。基于教学现状,着重探讨了与课程各环节紧密结合的教学方法,提出要积极引进课程思政教育、人文化教学方法和实践性教学模式,以期实现建筑学专业学生的总体培养目标。  相似文献

Foreign (non-mainland Chinese) architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) firms may face difficulties managing construction projects in China because they are unfamiliar with this new operating environment. This study investigates project management (PM) practices adopted by Singaporean AEC firms in China. It determines the performance level of their projects in China; identifies PM practices that led to better performance; and recommends key PM practices that could be adopted by foreign AEC firms in China to achieve project success. A structured questionnaire was designed and data were collected via a self-administered postal and email survey, targeting Singaporean AEC firms that had undertaken and managed projects in China. The study finds that certain PM practices do indeed affect project performance. The most important of these are practices relating to scope management, such as controlling the quality of the contract document, quality of response to perceived variations and extent of changes to the contract. It is recommended that foreign firms adopt some of the PM practices highlighted in this study to help them achieve better project performance in China.  相似文献

The older adult population requires special consideration in terms of interior architectural design. This paper presents a methodology which aims to investigate the risk of falling associated with the architectural design of staircase elements, in order to suggest best practices to create elderly-friendly design that enhances safety for older adults. The proposed methodology uses the concept of evidence-based assessment to evaluate staircase elements such as handrail and step design. This paper also presents a scenario-based rating system that assesses the degree of the risk of falling for different types of architectural staircase design. The proposed rating system was incorporated into a mathematical model and a Design Assessment Tree (DAT) that calculate the degree of risk associated with architectural staircase design to facilitate a building information modeling (BIM) approach. A hypothetical case study is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology and highlights the essential features of the proposed model.  相似文献

This article is devoted to two graduate courses: ARCH 600, Comprehensive Design Studio, and ARCH 611, Advanced Technology. The studio explores the relationship between conceptual and technical aspects of architectural form and its assembly. Advanced Technology is a concurrent course that focuses on the integration of building systems. The intent of these courses is to narrow the gap between design and material realization by concentrating on the impact of material and technique on form in a studio setting. The pedagogy and method of the courses build a bridge between the theories and the practice of architecture. In this article, we discuss the pedagogical goals of an integrated design development methodology and the role of drawing and modeling exercises in that process.  相似文献

While marketing is a known element of successful practice, architects are yet to be convinced of its full potential. Little was known about the marketing practice in architectural firms in Singapore. Attempts were made to determine the realities of formalized marketing approaches and their importance to architectural firms in Singapore through a questionnaire survey (where 95 architectural firms participated) and follow-up interviews. A total of 34 usable responses were collected. This was investigated using the ‘Architecture Business Development Process’ as a framework, which found evidence to suggest that marketing has been recognized as an important component of architectural practice in Singapore. The results show that the adoption of the ‘marketing concept’ in the architecture profession is still in its formative stages. Architectural firms – and small and medium ones in particular – need to fully capitalize on this area of business knowledge in order to influence, command and understand the market for them to remain financially viable as a practice. Despite little attention being paid to measuring the performance of marketing outcomes, almost all the respondents and interviewees acknowledged its increasing importance. With greater corporate governance, these firms are beginning to realize the significance of marketing, and are evaluating their practices to ride the market for success. This move indicates a positive step in bridging the disparities between architecture practice and design.  相似文献

Landscape architects are facing unprecedented challenges and complexities associated with design projects of today. To better adapt and evolve in light of these issues, the toolbox for the profession is currently expanding beyond traditional implements and devices to include emerging tools that have originated in other industries. The barriers to entry for these tools are continuously being lowered due to more user-friendly hardware, more intuitive software, and increased affordability, allowing them to get into the hands of more people. Yet, many of these emerging tools now available to professionals originated elsewhere and cannot be simply transferred over to the design world. This article argues that there is a need to critically evaluate and assess new technologies for use in landscape architectural practice. It unpacks how the XL Research and Innovation Lab at SWA Group has experimented with and tested the limitations of three new tools — unmanned aerial vehicles, immersive environment technologies, and machine learning algorithms — to better understand their potential for design. For each tool, the article provides an overview of its technology, a case study testing the technology for use in landscape architectural practice, a list of observed strengths and limitations, and a projected roadmap for future applications.  相似文献

Abstract

This article reconsiders a joint seminar and studio that studied how an expanded vision of site and culture influences architectural production. The Barnes Foundation controversy provided a vehicle for this study. The Barnes is a private, world-renowned collection of art situated in an unlikely suburban Philadelphia neighborhood. Arguing that its current home was untenable, in 2002 the foundation announced plans to relocate—a move that runs counter to its founding charter, which bars any change to the collection, its content, or its location. Against a background of continued public protest and legal appeals, the Barnes decision prompts myriad vexing questions that are valuable for consideration in architectural education. Chief among these: is replication a valid, meaningful, or sufficient way to preserve cultural value, and if so, how?  相似文献
