Application of bifurcation control to practical circuit design

Bifurcations delimit the operation bands of many nonlinear circuits. Thus, the capability to preset these bifurcations at the desired parameter values will be of invaluable interest for practical design. In this paper, simple conditions for bifurcation control are presented. They are based on the use of auxiliary generators and can be implemented in both in-house and commercial harmonic-balance simulators. The control is performed through the introduction into the circuit of feedback networks, whose values are calculated in order to fulfill the desired bifurcation conditions. Through the control techniques, it is possible to preset the operation bands of complex circuits, such as synchronized and voltage-controlled oscillators and frequency dividers. They also enable the elimination of hysteresis phenomena. They have been tested by means of their application to practical microwave circuits, with very good results in comparison with measurements.

A 3.3-V, low-distortion ISDN line driver with a novel quiescentcurrent control circuit

A U-interface line driver for a single-chip ISDN (integrated services digital network) NT (network termination) in an advanced 3.3-V, 0.5-μm CMOS technology is presented. It features a THD (total harmonic distortion) better than -68 dB for an output swing of 5 V_pp on a 67-Ω load in a band up to 60 kHz. A novel quiescent current control circuit is implemented. The advantages of this new approach lie in the reduction of the variation of the quiescent current and the facilitation of the driver's circuits and compensation scheme

A PCM transcoder circuit and remote metering generator for line circuit applications

The two functions are implemented in a custom integrated circuit (TCF). The system, circuit, and technological aspects of the design are described. The TCF chip performs transcoding from/to 13-bit linear to/from 8 bit, A-law or /spl mu/-law companded PCM, for 32 multiplexed channels. Every channel is transcoded, in both directions, every 125 /spl mu/s. A second function of the device is the generation of metering signal bursts free of audible clicks. The metering frequency is selectable at 12 or 16 kHz. In order to achieve low power consumption and minimal area, all the circuitry is implemented using fully dynamic CMOS.

A monolithic 70-V subscriber line interface circuit

The design of a new monolithic 70-V BIMOS line interface circuit (BLIC), developed as a direct interface to the subscriber line, is described. This is the basic analog segment of a new subscriber-line interface circuit (SLIC). The LSI chip has been designed using a 70-V BIMOS process, combining high- and low-voltage bipolar transistors (70 and 15 V) with CMOS (15-V) transistors all using the same junction depths. The LSI chip meets stringent requirements on several specifications and performs ten basic functions.
