The poly(l ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(l ‐lactide) block copolymers (PLLA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PLLA) were synthesized in a toluene solution by the ring‐opening polymerization of 3,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐dioxan‐2,5‐dione (LLA) with PEG as a macroinitiator or by transterification from the homopolymers [polylactide and PEG]. Two polymerization conditions were adopted: method A, which used an equimolar catalyst/initiator molar ratio (1–5 wt %), and method B, which used a catalyst content commonly reported in the literature (<0.05 wt %). Method A was more efficient in producing copolymers with a higher yield and monomer conversion, whereas method B resulted in a mixture of the copolymer and homopolymers. The copolymers achieved high molar masses and even presenting similar global compositions, the molar mass distribution and thermal properties depends on the polymerization method. For instance, the suppression of the PEG block crystallization was more noticeable for copolymer A. An experimental design was used to qualify the influence of the catalyst and homopolymer amounts on the transreactions. The catalyst concentration was shown to be the most important factor. Therefore, the effectiveness of method A to produce copolymers was partly due to the transreactions. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2014 , 131, 40419.  相似文献

Biodegradable ABA triblock copolymers with poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(glycolic acid‐valine) blocks were synthesized via ring‐opening polymerization of cyclo(glycolic acid‐valine) using Ca‐alcoholates of hydroxytelechelic PEO as the initiator. The L‐valine residue racemized during copolymerization of cyclo(glycolic acid‐valine). The crystallization of the block copolymers decreases with decreasing PEO content in the triblock copolymers and with increasing length of the poly(glycolic acid‐valine) block. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyurethanes with multiblock copolymers of poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(tetramethylene oxide) glycol (PTMG) or poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as a soft segment were synthesized in situ via reactive extrusion from ?‐caprolactone (CL) and 4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI). The titanium alkoxide mixture generated from an ester‐exchange reaction between titanium propoxide [Ti(OPr)4], and excessive PTMG or PEG was used as an initiator and catalyst. Compared to the reported fabrication of polycaprolactone‐based polyurethane (PCLU), the in situ reactive extrusion preparation not only explored a new rapid route for the fabrication of PCLU but also offered a simplified, controllable approach for the production of PCLU in a successive mass scale. A series of PTMG–PCLUs and PEG–PCLUs with different PCL block‐average degrees of polymerization (DPn's) were prepared by only an adjustment of the relative concentration of CL in the reaction system, with a certain constant molar ratio of MDI to titanium alkoxide. 1H‐NMR, gel permeation chromatography, and differential scanning calorimetry results indicate that all of the CL monomers were converted in the polymerization, and the molecular weight of the copolymers was about 8 × 104 g/mol with a polydispersity index of approximate 2.4. With an increase in the PCL block‐average DPn in PTMG–PCLU from 25 to 40, the tensile strength increased from 16.5 to 22.7 MPa, and the melting point increased from 46.1 to 49.5°C. It was also verified by PEG–PCLU prepared with organic Ti of lowered content in the initiator mixture that the mechanical properties could be greatly affected and dropped with decreasing content of organic Ti in the initiator mixture. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly ε‐caprolactone‐polystyrene block‐copolymers (PCL‐b‐PSt) were synthesized using a modified titanium catalyst as the dual initiator. Alcoholysis of Ti(OPr)4 by 4‐hydroxy 2,2,6,6 tetramethyl piperidinyl‐1‐oxyl (HO‐TEMPO) gave a bifunctional initiator Ti(OTEMPO)4. Poly ε‐caprolactone prepolymer end‐capped with the nitroxide group was first prepared by ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone with this initiator at high conversion. The nitroxide‐end‐capped structure and molar mass (Mn) of the polymers were demonstrated by typical UV absorption band. This analytical technique indicates a near‐quantitative nitroxide functionality and a Mn in good agreement with size exclusion chromatography (SEC) ones. This polyester prepolymer was used to further initiate the radical polymerization with styrene and reach the block copolymers (PCL‐b‐PSt). All the prepolymers and block copolymers were characterized by SEC and NMR spectroscopy. Additionally, the preparation of star polymers bearing two kinds of arms (PCL and PSt) was envisaged and a preliminary result was given. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of amine‐functionalized block copolymers, poly(caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PCL‐b‐PEG), were synthesized by ring‐opening bulk polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) initiated through the hydroxyl end of the amino poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) used as a macroinitiator in the presence of stannous 2‐ethylhexonoate [Sn(Oct)2]. The polymerization and end functionality of the polymer were studied by different physicochemical techniques (1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography and thermogravimetric analysis). Thermal, crystalline and mechanical properties of the polymer were thoroughly analyzed using differential scanning calorimetry, wide‐angle X‐ray diffractometry and tensile testing, respectively. The results showed a linear improvement in crystallinity and mechanical properties of the polymer with the content of PEG. Thus the synthesized functional polymers can be used as excellent biomaterials for the delivery of polyanions, as well as macroinitiators for the synthesis of A–B–C‐type block copolymers. A strategy is introduced for the synthesis of polyethylene‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) block copolymers by a combination of coordination polymerization and ring‐opening polymerization. First, end‐hydroxylated polyethylene (PE‐OH) was prepared with a one‐step process through ethylene/3‐buten‐1‐ol copolymerization catalyzed by a vanadium(III) complex bearing a bidentate [N,O] ligand ([PhN?C(CH3)CHC(Ph)O]VCl2(THF)2). The PE‐OH was then used as macroinitiator for ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone, leading to the desired nonpolar/polar diblock copolymers. The block structure was confirmed by spectral analysis using 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography and differential scanning calorimetry. The unusual topologies of the model copolymers will establish a fundamental understanding for structure–property correlations, e.g. compatibilization, of polymer blends and surface and interface modification of other polymers. © 2014 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Polystyrene terminated with benzyl alcohol units was employed as a macroinitiator for ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone and L ‐lactide to yield AB‐ and ABC‐type block copolymers. Even though there are many reports on the diblock copolymers of poly(styrene‐block‐lactide) and poly(styrene‐block‐lactone), this is the first report on the poly(styrene‐block‐lactone‐block‐lactide) triblock copolymer consisting of two semicrystalline and degradable segments. The triblock copolymers exhibited twin melting behavior in differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis with thermal transitions corresponding to each of the lactone and lactide blocks. The block derived from ε‐caprolactone also showed crystallization transitions upon cooling from the melt. In the DSC analysis, one of the triblock copolymers showed an exothermic transition well above the melting temperature upon cooling. Thermogravimetric analysis of these block copolymers showed a two‐step degradation curve for the diblock copolymer and a three‐step degradation for the triblock copolymer with each of the degradation steps associated with each segment of the block copolymers. The present study shows that it is possible to make pure triblock copolymers with two semicrystalline segments which also consist of degradable blocks. Hexa‐armed star‐shaped poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(L ‐lactide) (6sPCL‐b‐PLLA) with dipentaerythritol core were synthesized by a two‐step ring‐opening polymerization. GPC and 1H NMR data demonstrate that the polymerization courses are under control. The molecular weight of 6sPCLs and 6sPCL‐b‐PLLAs increases with increasing molar ratio of monomer to initiator, and the molecular weight distribution is in the range of 1.03–1.10. The investigation of the melting and crystallization demonstrated that the values of crystallization temperature (Tc), melting temperature (Tm), and the degree of crystallinity (Xc) of PLLA blocks are increased with the chain length increase of PLLA in the 6sPCL‐b‐PLLA copolymers. On the contrary, the crystallization of PCL blocks dominates when the chain length of PLLA is too short. According to the results of polarized optical micrographs, both the spherulitic growth rate (G) and the spherulitic morphology are affected by the macromolecular architecture and the length of the block chains. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A poly[(R,S)‐3‐hydroxybutyrate] macroinitiator (PHB‐MI) was obtained through the condensation reaction of poly[(R,S)‐3‐hydroxybutyrate] (PHB) oligomers containing dihydroxyl end functionalities with 4,4′‐azobis(4‐cyanopentanoyl chloride). The PHB‐MI obtained in this way had hydroxyl groups at two end of the polymer chain and an internal azo group. The synthesis of ABA‐type PHB‐b‐PMMA block copolymers [where A is poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and B is PHB] via PHB‐MI was accomplished in two steps. First, multiblock active copolymers with azo groups (PMMA‐PHB‐MI) were prepared through the redox free‐radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with a PHB‐MI/Ce(IV) redox system in aqueous nitric acid at 40°C. Second, PMMA‐PHB‐MI was used in the thermal polymerization of MMA at 60°C to obtain PHB‐b‐PMMA. When styrene (S) was used instead of MMA in the second step, ABCBA‐type PMMA‐b‐PHB‐b‐PS multiblock copolymers [where C is polystyrene (PS)] were obtained. In addition, the direct thermal polymerization of the monomers (MMA or S) via PHB‐MI provided AB‐type diblocks copolymers with MMA and BCB‐type triblock copolymers with S. The macroinitiators and block copolymers were characterized with ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, cryoscopic measurements, and thermogravimetric analysis. The increases in the intrinsic viscosity and fractional precipitation confirmed that a block copolymer had been obtained. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 94: 1789–1796, 2004  相似文献

Copolymerization of styrene (S) and diethyl fumarate (DEF) at 125°C in the presence of 2,2,6,6‐ tetramethylpiperidin‐1‐yloxyl radical (TEMPO) and initiated with a thermal initiator, 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN), was studied. The molar fraction of DEF in the feed, FDEF, varied within 0.1–0.9. An azeotropic composition, (FDEF)A = 0.38, was found for the copolymerization under study. At FDEF = 0.1–0.4, a quasi‐living process was observed, transforming to a retarded conventional radical copolymerization at a higher content of DEF in the initial mixtures. The obtained TEMPO‐terminated S‐DEF copolymers were used to initiate polymerization of styrene. Poly(styrene‐ co‐diethyl fumarate)‐block‐polystyrene copolymers were prepared with molecular weight distributions depending on the amount of inactive polymer chains in macroinitiators, as indicated by size‐exclusion chromatography. A limited miscibility of the blocks in the synthesized block copolymers was revealed by using differential scanning calorimetry. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(adipic anhydride) (PAA) was prepared by the ring‐opening polymerization of adipic anhydride (AA) initiated by potassium poly(ethylene glycol)ate. The effects of various factors, such as the amount of initiator, concentration of the monomer, reaction time and temperature, and polarity of the solvent on the polymerization were investigated. The crude polymerized product was a mixture of PAA homopolymer and poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(adipic anhydride) block copolymer, as confirmed by 1H‐NMR and gel permeation chromatography. Chain‐transfer reactions occurred intensively for the AA polymerization in both the nonpolar solvent toluene and the polar solvents CHCl3 and tetrahydrofuran, which predominantly determined the molecular weight and the monomer conversion for the polymerized product. The lower monomer conversion in toluene was ascribed to a lower livingness for the initiator in the nonpolar solvent when compared with other two, polar solvents. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Diblock and triblock copolymers of poly‐L ‐lactide (PLLA) and polystyrene (PS) were synthesized and the mechanical properties of these copolymers studied. Free radical polymerization of styrene in the presence of 2‐mercaptoethanol as functional chain transfer agent produced mono‐functionalized PS‐blocks which were used as macroinitiators in the subsequent ring opening polymerization (ROP) of L ‐lactide to produce the diblock copolymers. Furthermore a α‐ω‐bishydroxyl functionalized PS‐block was synthesized by RAFT, which was then engaged as bifunctional initiator for the ROP of L ‐lactide to provide the triblock copolymers PLLA‐PS‐PLLA. Through the copolymerisation and high molar masses, it was possible to achieve an improved mechanical property profile, compared with pure PLLA, or the analogous blends of PLLA and PS. A weight fraction of PS of 10–30% was found to be the optimal range for improving the heat deflection temperature (HDT), as well as mechanical properties such as ultimate tensile strength or elongation at break. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. It is successfully realized that block copolymers are synthesized via metathesis polymerization followed by free‐radical polymerization. This method is performed using styrene (St) and norbornene, one block is synthesized using the Grubbs second generation catalyst in the presence of chain transfer agents, and the subsequent polymerization of St is initiated by azo compounds to complete the additional blocks in the copolymers. The use of free‐radical polymerization instead of controlled radical polymerization or ionic polymerization can be potentially superior for industrialization. As a result, the molecular weights of the block copolymers ranging from 10.4 to 54.3 kDa and polydispersity indices ranging from 1.30 to 1.91 are obtained. In principle, this new method can be potentially useful to prepare a broad range of block copolymers with cyclic olefin groups in the main chains, which may be used in some particular applications.  相似文献

Three different ABA‐type triblock copolymers each containing biodegradable aliphatic polycarbonate as the middle block and poly(l ‐lactide) as the outer blocks were synthesized and the influence of the methylene chain length of the aliphatic polycarbonate middle block on various properties of the triblock copolymers was evaluated. Differential scanning calorimetry and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction studies revealed that the incorporation of the outer blocks reduced the crystallinity of the middle aliphatic polycarbonate block. Variation of methylene chain length of the middle block led to a change in morphology from spherical to cylindrical as evidenced from atomic force microscopy studies. In addition, the mechanical properties of the block copolymers showed semi‐ductile to quasi‐brittle behaviour depending upon the composition of the middle block which was also confirmed using scanning electron microscopy. Dynamic mechanical analysis of the triblock copolymers indicated that storage modulus increased with a decrease in methylene chain length. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Poly(methyl methacrylate)‐block‐polyurethane‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) tri‐block copolymers have been synthesized successfully through atom transfer radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate using telechelic bromo‐terminated polyurethane/CuBr/N,N,N,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine initiating system. As the time increases, the number‐average molecular weight increases linearly from 6400 to 37,000. This shows that the poly methyl methacrylate blocks were attached to polyurethane block. As the polymerization time increases, both conversion and molecular weight increased and the molecular weight increases linearly with increasing conversion. These results indicate that the formation of the tri‐block copolymers was through atom transfer radical polymerization mechanism. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectral results of the triblock copolymers show that the molar ratio between polyurethane and poly (methyl methacrylate) blocks is in the range of 1 : 16.3 to 1 : 449.4. Differential scanning calorimetry results show Tg of the soft segment at ?35°C and Tg of the hard segment at 75°C. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008  相似文献

The chemoenzymatic synthesis of a novel diblock copolymer consisting of a hydrocarbon block of polycaprolactone (PCL) and an epoxy‐based block of poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) was achieved by the combination of enzymatic ring‐opening polymerization (eROP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). A trichloromethyl‐terminated PCL macrointiator was obtained via Novozyme 435‐catalyzed eROP of ε‐caprolactone from a bifunctional initiator, 2,2,2‐trichloroethanol, under anhydrous conditions. PCL‐b‐PGMA diblock copolymers were synthesized in a subsequent ATRP of glycidyl methacrylate. The kinetics analysis of ATRP indicated a ‘living’/controlled radical polymerization. The macromolecular structure and thermal properties of the PCL macroinitiator and of the diblock copolymer were characterized using NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography and differential scanning calorimetry. The well‐defined PCL‐b‐PGMA amphiphilic diblock copolymer self‐assembled in aqueous solution into nanoscale micelles. The size and shape of the resulting micelles were investigated using dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy and tapping‐mode atomic force microscopy. A single‐site ethyl aluminum complex, [2,2‐ diethyl‐1,3‐propylenebis(3,5‐di‐tert‐butyl‐salicylideneiminato)] ethyl aluminum (2), with a geminal diethyl substitutent on the diamino bridge was synthesized by the reaction of AlEt3 with 1 equiv of N,N′‐(2,2‐diethyl‐1,3‐propylene)bis(3,5‐di‐tert‐butylsalicylideneimine). X‐ray diffraction showed that complex 2 contained a five‐coordinate aluminum atom with a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry in the solid state. 1H‐NMR and 13C‐NMR spectra indicated that the two conformational enantiomers of 2 tautomerized quickly on the NMR timescale in solution. In the presence of isopropyl alcohol, the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of rac‐lactide with complex 2 produced a crystalline stereoblock polylactide (PLA). The stereoblocks contained an average of 12 units (L? = 12) of enantiomerically pure lactic acid. There was a linear relationship between the monomer conversion and number‐average molecular weights of the polymer. An induction period was observed for the polymerization. The induction period increased with decreasing concentration of catalyst 2 and isopropyl alcohol. In the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), a PLA/PEG/PLA stereocomplex was prepared directly by the ROP of rac‐lactide with complex 2, which was confirmed by NMR, gel permeation chromatography, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(A)‐block‐poly(B), poly(A)‐block‐poly(B)‐block‐poly(A) and B(A)2 block copolymers were prepared through coordinated anionic ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (CL) and lactic acid (LA) using hydroxy‐terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as initiator. A wide range of well‐defined combinations of PDMS‐block‐PCL and PDMS‐block‐PLA diblock copolymers, PCL‐block‐PDMS‐block‐PCL and PLA‐block‐PDMS‐block‐PLA triblock copolymers and star‐PDMS(PCL)2 copolymers were thus obtained. The number‐average molar masses and the structure of the synthesized block copolymers were identified using various analytical techniques. The thermal properties of these copolymers were established using differential scanning calorimetry. Considering PDMS‐block‐PCL copolymers, the results demonstrate the complex effect of polymer architecture and PCL block length on the ability of the PDMS block to crystallize or not. In the case of diblock copolymers, crystallization of PCL blocks originated from stacking of adjacent chains inducing the extension of the PDMS block that can easily crystallize. In the case of star copolymers, the same tendency as in triblock copolymers is observed, showing a limited crystallization of PDMS when the length of the PCL block increases. In the case of PDMS‐block‐PLA copolymers, melting and crystallization transitions of the PLA block are never observed. Considering the diblock copolymers, PDMS sequences have the ability to crystallize. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Enzymatic polymerization in a non‐natural environment is of interest as an environmentally friendly methodology as an alternative to the use of conventional chemical organometallic catalysts. Chemo‐enzymatic synthesis of the AB‐type diblock copolymer poly(2,2,2‐trichloroethyl 10‐hydroxydecanate)‐block‐polystyrene (PHD‐b‐PSt) was carried out by combining enzymatic self‐condensation polymerization (eSCP) and atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Biocatalyst Novozyme 435 was successful in catalyzing the eSCP of a novel ω‐hydroxyester, i.e. 2,2,2‐trichloroethyl 10‐hydroxydecanate. The resulting ? CCl3‐terminated PHD initiated the ATRP of styrene, a ‘living’/controlled radical polymerization. The analysis of the hydrolysate from the copolymer proved the presence of a block copolymer structure. In addition, the well‐defined diblock copolymer PHD‐b‐PSt self‐assembled into nanoscale micelles in aqueous solution. The chemo‐enzymatic synthesis of diblock copolymer PHD‐b‐PSt was achieved by the combination of eSCP and ATRP. The structures and composition of the block copolymer were characterized by means of NMR, infrared and gel permeation chromatography measurements. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis showed that a microphase‐separation structure was formed in the copolymer, which was caused by the crystallization of the PHD segments. As investigated with atomic force microscopy and dynamic light scattering, these micelles had a mean diameter and a spherical shape. To our knowledge, this is the first example of a chemo‐enzymatic synthesis based on eSCP and ATRP. Copyright © 2007 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
