A proposed hybrid solar hydrogen system with activated carbon storage for residential power generation is assessed using exergy analysis. Energy and exergy balances are applied to determine exergy flows and efficiencies for individual devices and the overall system. A ‘base case’ analysis considers the proposed system without modification, while a ‘modified case’ extends the base case by considering the possibility of multiple product outputs. It is determined that solar photovoltaic-based sub-systems have the lowest exergy efficiencies (14-18%) and offer the most potential for improvement. A comparison of these two scenarios shows that the additional outputs raise the exergy efficiency of the modified case (11%) relative to the base case (4.0%). An investigation of the energy and exergy efficiencies of separate devices illustrates how energy analyses can be misleading. The hybrid system is expected to have several environmental benefits, which may offset to some degree economic barriers to implementation.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the development of a transient model of the performance of a double solar still and its validation by experiments. the dependence of the daily output of the distillate on wind velocity, ambient temperature and daily insolation has been studied analytically. It is seen experimentally that the presence of a black dye in the lower basin increases the distillate output by 10 to 15 per cent.  相似文献

Exergy analysis of the solar cylindrical-parabolic cooker   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1
Richard Petela   《Solar Energy》2005,79(3):221-233
For the first time the simple solar parabolic cooker (SPC), of the cylindrical trough shape, is analysed from the exergy viewpoint. The paper presents the methodology of detailed exergy analysis of the SPC, the distribution of the exergy losses, and, on the example of the cooker surfaces, explains the general problem of how the exergy loss on any radiating surface, should be determined, if the surface absorbs many radiation fluxes of different temperatures. An imagined surface was used in the considerations to close the system of the cooker surfaces. It was shown that optimization is needed, to increase the energy and exergy efficiencies of the cooker.Equations for heat transfer between the three surfaces: cooking pot, reflector and imagined surface making up the system, were derived. The model allowed for theoretical estimation of the energy and exergy losses: unabsorbed insolation, convective and radiative heat transfer to the ambient, and additionally, for the exergy losses: the radiative irreversibilities on the surfaces, and the irreversibility of the useful heat transferred to the water. The exergy efficiency of the SPC, was found to be relatively very low (1%), and to be about 10 times smaller than the respective energy efficiency which is in agreement with experimental data from the literature. The influence of the input parameters (geometrical configuration, emissivities of the surfaces, heat transfer coefficients and temperatures of water and ambience) was determined on the output parameters, the distribution of the energy and exergy losses and the respective efficiencies.  相似文献

Exergy analysis of renewable energy sources   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Oil crises in the past years made more obvious the dependency of economies on fossil fuels. As a consequence, the need for new energy sources became more urgent. Renewable energy sources could provide a solution to the problem, as they are inexhaustible and have less adverse impacts on the environment than fossil fuels. Yet, renewable energy sources technology has not reached a high standard at which it can be considered competitive to fossil fuels. The present study deals with the exergy analysis of solar energy, wind power and geothermal energy. That is, the actual use of energy from the existing available energy is discussed. In addition, renewable energy sources are compared with the non-renewable energy sources on the basis of efficiency.  相似文献

On account of the energy crisis, several types of solar energy devices have been developed and marketed in various parts of the world with varying degrees of thermal performance. The economic aspect of these solar energy devices becomes more significant when they replace those devices which use conventional fuels. In this paper, an economic analysis of one of the solar energy devices, namely a G.I. sheet multiwick solar distillation plant, has been presented taking into account the various factors, viz. the lifetime of the system, salvage values of the system, interest rate and maintenance cost.  相似文献

An analytical, one-dimensional, steady state model is employed to solve for overpotentials at the catalyst layers along with the liquid water and methanol distributions at the anode, and oxygen transport at the cathode. An iterative method is utilized to calculate the cell temperature at each cell current density. A comprehensive exergy analysis considering all possible species inside the cell during normal operation is presented. The contributions of different types of irreversibilities including overpotentials at the anode and cathode, methanol crossover, contact resistance, and proton conductivity of the membrane are investigated. Of all losses, overpotentials in conjunction with the methanol crossover are considered as the major exergy destruction sources inside the cell during the normal operation. While the exergy losses due to electrochemical reactions are more significant at higher current densities, exergy destruction by methanol crossover at the cathode plays more important role at lower currents. It is also found that the first-law efficiency of a passive direct methanol fuel cell increases as the methanol solution in the tank increases in concentration from 1 M to 3 M. However, this is not the case with the second-law efficiency which is always decreasing as the concentration of the methanol solution in the tank increases.  相似文献

In this Technical Note, an analytical expression for the efficiency of a solar still has been derived as a function of solar still and climatical parameters. The analysis is based on the basic energy balance of the solar still. It is observed that an expression for the efficiency of a solar still is of the same form as obtained for a flat-plate collector.  相似文献

For a given set of operating conditions, the hydrogen production from biomass gasification can be improved through optimization of the operating parameters and efficiencies. The present approach can predict hydrogen production via biomass gasification in a range of 10–32 kg/s from biomass (sawdust wood). The biomass is introduced to a gasifier at an operating temperature range of 1000–1500 K. Also, 4.5 kg/s of steam at 500 K is used as gasification medium. Results indicate that improvement in hydrogen production from biomass steam gasification depending on the amount of steam and quantity of biomass feeding to the gasifier as well the operating temperature. Over the range of feeding biomass, the hydrogen yield reaches 80–130 g H2/kg biomass while in the operating temperature examined, the hydrogen yield reaches 80 g H2/kg biomass. On mole basis it is found that, in the first range of H2 varies from 51 to 63% in the studied range of feeding biomass in existing 4.5 kg/s from steam while H2 gets to 51–53% in existing of 6.3 kg/s from steam.  相似文献

Exergy or the available energy is based on the second law of thermodynamics and goes back to Maxwell and Gibbs. It is the exergy content and not the energy content, that truly represents the potential of the substance to cause change. Exergy is the only rational basis for evaluating the system performance. The aim of this project is to study in detail the exergy variation in the solar assisted absorption system. The influence of the cycle parameters are analysed on the basis of first law and second law effectiveness and the results indicated various ways of improving system performance by better design. Also a better quality of the evaporator has more effect on the system performance than the better quality of other components. It was shown that second law analysis quantitatively visualizes losses within a system and gives clear trends for optimization.  相似文献

Exergy analysis of synthetic natural gas production method from biomass   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The paper presents the results of exergy analysis for a biomass-to-synthetic natural gas (SNG) conversion process. The presented study is based on wood gasification, which is analysed for different gasification conditions like temperature and/or pressure. The analysed temperature was varied in the range from 650 to 800 °C and the pressure range was from 1 to 15 bar. The main process units of biomass-to-SNG conversion technology are gasifier, gas cleaning, synthesis gas compression, CH4 synthesis and final SNG conditioning. The results showed that the largest exergy losses take place in the biomass gasifier, CH4 synthesis part and CO2 capture unit. The overall exergetic efficiency of the biomass-to-SNG process was estimated in the range of about 69.5–71.8%.  相似文献

The present study develops a new solar and geothermal based integrated system, comprising absorption cooling system, organic Rankine cycle (ORC), a solar-driven system and hydrogen production units. The system is designed to generate six outputs namely, power, cooling, heating, drying air, hydrogen and domestic hot water. Geothermal power plants emit high amount of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The presence of H2S in the air, water, soils and vegetation is one of the main environmental concerns for geothermal fields. In this paper, AMIS(AMIS® - acronym for “Abatement of Mercury and Hydrogen Sulphide” in Italian language) technology is used for abatement of mercury and producing of hydrogen from H2S. The present system is assessed both energetically and exergetically. In addition, the energetic and exergetic efficiencies and exergy destruction rates for the whole system and its parts are defined. The highest overall energy and exergy efficiencies are calculated to be 78.37% and 58.40% in the storing period, respectively. Furthermore, the effects of changing various system parameters on the energy and exergy efficiencies of the overall system and its subsystems are examined accordingly.  相似文献

In this paper, a new hybrid system for hydrogen production via solar energy is developed and analyzed. In order to decompose water into hydrogen and oxygen without the net consumption of additional reactants, a steady stream of reacting materials must be maintained in consecutive reaction processes, to avoid reactant replenishment or additional energy input to facilitate the reaction. The system comprises two reactors, which are connected through a proton conducting membrane. Oxidative and reductive quenching pathways are developed for the water reduction and oxidation reactions. Supramolecular complexes [{(bpy)2Ru(dpp)}2RhBr2] (PF6)5 are employed as the photo-catalysts, and an external electric power supply is used to enhance the photochemical reaction. A light driven proton pump is used to increase the photochemical efficiency of both O2 and H2 production reactions. The energy and exergy efficiencies at a system level are analyzed and discussed. The maximum energy conversion of the system can be improved up to 14% by incorporating design modification that yield a corresponding 25% improvement in the exergy efficiency.  相似文献

In this paper, energy and exergy analyses for a 1.2 kWp Nexa PEM fuel cell unit in a solar-based hydrogen production system is undertaken to investigate the performance of the system for different operating conditions using experimental setup and thermodynamic model. From the model results, it is found that there are reductions in energy and exergy efficiencies (about 14%) with increase in current density. These are consistent with the experimental data for the same operating conditions. A parametric study on the system and its parameters is undertaken to investigate the changes in the efficiencies for variations in temperature, pressure and anode stoichiometry. The energy and exergy efficiencies increase with pressure by 23% and 15%, respectively. No noticeable changes are observed in energy and exergy efficiencies with increase in temperature. The energy and exergy efficiencies decrease with increase in anode stoichiometry by 17% and 14%, respectively. These observations are reported for the given range of current density as 0.047–0.4 A/cm2. The results and analyses show that the PEM fuel-cell system has lower exergy efficiencies than the corresponding energy efficiencies due to the irreversibilities that are not considered by energy analysis. In comparison with experimental data, the model is accurate in predicting the performance of the proposed fuel-cell system. The parametric and multivariable analyses show that the option of selecting appropriate set of conditions plays a significant role in improving performance of existing fuel-cell systems.  相似文献

The concept of probability density frequency, which is successfully used for analyses of wind speed and outdoor temperature distributions, is now modified and proposed for estimating solar radiation distributions for design and analysis of solar energy systems. In this study, global solar radiation distribution is comprehensively analyzed for photovoltaic (PV) panel and thermal collector systems. In this regard, a case study is conducted with actual global solar irradiation data of the last 15 years recorded by the Turkish State Meteorological Service. It is found that intensity of global solar irradiance greatly affects energy and exergy efficiencies and hence the performance of collectors.  相似文献

In this paper, a comprehensive study on thermodynamic analysis and assessment, through energy and exergy approaches, is conducted for a multigenerational solar based integrated energy system. The system proposed in this study is based on heliostat solar system integrated with steam turbine. The system is also integrated with seawater reverse osmosis desalination unit and absorption cooling system. The desalination unit operates with energy recovery through the utilization of Pelton turbine. The system produces cooling, heating, fresh water and hydrogen through electrolysis. It is furthermore designed to cover the demand of 4 MW electric power with the production of 1.25 kg/h of hydrogen and 90 kg/s of fresh water. The system advisor model software is applied on a case study for the solar heliostat optimization analysis.  相似文献

A thermal analysis of a passive regenerative solar still is presented for different configurations. Based on an energy balance for each component of the system, an analytical expression for thermal efficiency has been derived in terms of the design parameters. The theoretical results have been validated for special cases of the system. There is reasonable agreement between theoretical and experimental observations.  相似文献

Studies on simultaneous utilization of solar stills as a thermo-concentration cell and as a distillation system have been reported. Cell characteristics have been studied. The electrical energy has been found to increase both with the increase in concentration of sodium chloride (salinity) and the temperature of the saline water. This two way utilization of solar stills has an added advantage that overall utilization efficiency of solar energy is increased against a nominal additional input. For application in rural areas where water needs treatment, (distillation) this extra electrical energy may make it more attractive. The possibility of application of such systems in the industrial sector has also been mentioned.  相似文献

In this paper, a solar combi-system which consists of solar collectors and a carbon dioxide heat pump is proposed and investigated through simulation and optimization. Performance analysis and comparison are primarily conducted to show the feasibility and reasonability of using a CO2 heat pump as an auxiliary heater under local weather conditions. Then, a system model with a test building in TRNSYS is developed for performance optimization. The most influential variables are identified using influence and sensitivity analyzes of single parameters. Subsequently, a multi-parameter optimization using the high-weight parameters is carried out to obtain a final design result. The simulated results of the optimized case show that the average coefficient of performance of the CO2 heat pump is 2.38, and the solar fraction of the system is 69.0% for the entire heating season. The time when a comfortable temperature level can be achieved in the indoor environment accounts for 81.6% of the entire heating season. Furthermore, the performance characteristics of the proposed system are evaluated in terms of the thermal balance, fraction of the thermal energy saving, feasibility of net zero energy, economic factor, and CO2 emissions reduction.  相似文献
