ABSTRACT

A new model is proposed which calculates fluid bed drying curves without any adaptation of the Sherwood number between panicles and gas. Even the fine-structure of experimental data, i.e. the influence of bed height and gas flow rate, is predicted reliably. This is achieved by considering backmixing of the suspension gas in the kinetic parameter and not in the driving potential. A traditional derivation with reduced driving potential fails in the comparison with experimental results.  相似文献

A MODEL FOR THIN-LAYER DRYING OF LENTILS   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A procedure was developed based on a three-component physical model to simulate the drying characteristics of Laird lentils. In this model, the cotyledons were simplified as a homogeneous slab where moisture transfer was governed by a one-dimensional diffusion equation, and the hilum and seedcoat were considered as two parallel routes for moisture to escape from a seed. The simulation procedure was verified with the experimental data from thin-layer drying testing on samples of 19.0 to 24.5% initial moisture content at temperatures from 23 to 80°C and relative humidities from 5 to 70%. Using previously obtained information on the transport properties of the cotyledons, the seedcoat, and the hilum, the simulation followed the drying data closely over temperatures between 23 and 60°C.  相似文献

Three models of different complexity are proposed to describe the falling rate period of the carrot drying process with shrinkage. A moving or fixed boundary problem as well as a constant or local moisture and temperature dependent effective diffusivity are considered. The moving boundary problem is solved by an explicit finite difference method. Heat transfer coefficient and effective diffusivity identification were carried out. The results of the heat transfer coefficient show a good agreement with other sources. Using experimental data and the models. describing the heat and mass transfer three different expressions for the effective diffusivity are established. Two of them are only temperature dependent considering or not particle shrinkage. The third one takes into account temperature and local moisture as well as shrinkage.

Drying of foods is a complicated process involving simultaneous coupled heat and mass transfer phenomena which occur inside the material being dried (Chiang and Petersen, 1987). Several models are found in the literature, representing mass and energy transfer which take place during food drying (King, 1968; Sokhansanj and Gustafson, 1980). Usually, approximate solutions are obtained with these  相似文献

This paper reviews the data and models used to simulate the field drying of grass in swaths. The main factors influencing the drying rate are solar radiation, vapor pressure, rain, the swath structure and the thin layer drying rate of the grass. Most models consider these factors to some extent. The simulation of swath drying is well developed, with some models considering the heat and mass transfer processes in the swath. But the modelling of swath structure and the effect of rain have received less attention. The models agree on the effect, on the drying rate, of all weather factors except wind speed. Some models predict that more wind is beneficial, others say the opposite. This problem has not been resolved experimentally.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The validation of a dehumidifier wood drying kiln model established previously has been conducted by using the performance data for a commercial scale kiln. The good agreement between the modelled and measured performance results shows that the model can be used for the design and analysis of dehumidifier wood drying kilns.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The drying kinetics of Muscatel grapes at 60°C and a relative air humidity of 22% were determined after various pretreatments had been applied to the grapes. The pretreatment parameters varied were the chemical agent (potassium carbonate solution with or without olive oil, or sodium hydroxide solution); the duration of pretreatment; and the temperature and concentration of the solution. A 3 minute pretreatment with an aqueous solution of K2CO3 and olive oil at 60°C reduced drying time from about 80 h to 20 h. Optimal drying load corresponded to a single layer of almost close-packed grapes on each tray. The experimental drying kinetics were satisfactorily reproduced by a model in which both grape size and the effective coefficient of diffusion are functions of moisture content.

ABSTRACT

Experimental drying curves for Tunisia Deglet Nour dates were obtained in a laboratory dryer under different drying conditions The air temperature was varied from 30 to 69°C, relative humidity from 11.6 to 47.1 % and air velocity from 0.9 to 2.7 m/s. A numerical method to obtain a solution of a diffusion equation in which the diffusivity depends upon temperature and moisture content has been proposed to investigate the moisture movement in a date by assuming the sample to be a homogenous infinite cylinder. To rind the fitting moisture and temperature dependent diffusivity, the calculated drying curves are compared with the observed drying curves and an empirical equation for the moisture diffusivity of the date has presented as a function of temperature and moisture. It has been shown that the moisture distribution in the date during drying can be obtained by using the empirical equation presented.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The superficial and bound moisture removal from soya meal was studied in a pneumatic dryer. The effect of external condition over the effective diffusivity in drying kinetics prediction has been demonstrated and a model that considers time variable diffusion coefficient was developed and correlated with gas temperature and velocities. A simple experimental technique using a pulse injection of humected solid was utilized to determine real drying kinetics under steady state operation with solids recycling. The model fitted the experimental data well over a gas temperature range between 100° C and 300° C and gas velocities of 3.5 m/ s and 20 m/ s.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A transient one dimensional first principles model is developed for the drying of a porous material (paper) that includes both heat and mass transfer. All three modes of heat transfer are considered; conduction, convection and radiation. The conduction is assumed to be in one dimension, through the porous material. The convection is assumed to exist only at the surface as a boundary condition. The radiation is assumed to be a volumetric phenomenon, so that the material internally absorbs, emits, and scatters energy. The absorption and scattering coefficients are spectrally dependent. Furthermore, the material is considered to have a non-unity refractive index with diffuse surfaces. In the mass transfer it is assumed that water exists in three phases: bound, free and vapor. The results provide profiles within the material for each moisture phase, temperature, and pressure and the effect of radiation on these distributions.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A series of experiments on the convective drying of Pinus radiata has been undertaken at the CSIRO Division of Forest Products in Australia. This paper uses the experimental results to compare predictions from both a comprehensive mathematical model, which includes wood temperature, moisture content and pressure distributions, and a simplified model (two versions) which assumes constant total pressure. From the- simulations, it is seen that both models adequately predict the overall kinetics of the wood drying process. For a complete understanding of the heat and mass transfer phenomena that occur in wood during drying the comprehensive model is necessary. However, it is computationally long and expensive, and as such, does not suit the practical drying needs of the timber industry in Australia. Consequently, the simplified model, which has acceptable computation time and sufficient accuracy for engineering purposes, enables die wood drying process to be optimised from both performance and economic perspectives.  相似文献

A diffusional model to study the drying process when volume change is significant is proposed. The effect of the foodstuff shape is taken into account. An empirical relation between moisture content and volume is presented. The resulting differential equations are numerically solved using a moving boundary finite differences technique. A good agreement between numerical results and experimental data is obtained.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A transient one dimensional first principles model is developed for the drying of a porous material (wood is used as an example) that includes both heat and mass transfer. Heat transfer by conduction and convection, mass transfer by binary gas diffusion, pressure-driven bulk flow in the gas and liquid, and diffusion of bound water are included in the analysis. The diffusive mass transfer terms are modeled using a Fickian approach, while the bulk flow is modeled assuming Darcian flow. Depending on the state (pendular or funicular) of the moisture in the wood, appropriate terms are considered in the development of the governing mass equations. The results provide distributions within the material of each moisture phase (vapor, liquid, and bound), temperature, and total pressure. Information regarding the drying rate and evaporation rate is also presented. Average distributions are obtained as a function of time, and compared with experimental data from the literature. It is observed that the total pressure within the material can be considerably above one atmosphere during the drying process.  相似文献

Mass losses and low quality are the most serious disadvantages of traditional grape drying methods. For the production of high quality raisins an increase in the drying rate is required and the grapes should be protected from rain, dust and insects during drying.

Under the terms of a joint German-Greek research program low-cost solar grape dryers were developed in the Institute of Agricultural Engineering of Hohenheim University and were tested in Greece in cooperation with the Crete Agricultural Research Center.

The required data basis for optimizing solar grape dryers was obtained by additional laboratory tests measuring the influence of various drying parameters on drying rate and quality.

Tests with the solar dryers have shown that it is possible to reduce the drying time and improve the quality significantly compared to the traditional drying methods. Also mass losses due to rain can be prevented.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The concentration dependency of diffusion coefficients of hygroscopic materials can usually only be calculated by cumbersome experimental techniques.

Taking the diffusion rate in the fictious steady state with the same mean moisture concentration as in the regular regime of the drying process of a spherical hygroscopic particle (which means the drying period not influenced by initial moisture distributions) into account, a simple method is proposed to estimate the dependency of diffusion coefficients on the moisture concentration for hygroscopic materials from drying rate curves of the single particle.  相似文献
