Anode-supported proton-conducting fuel cell with BaZr0.1Ce0.7Y0.2O3−δ (BZCY) electrolyte and Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3−δ (BSCF) cathode was fabricated. Peak power densities of ∼420 and 135 mW/cm2 were achieved, respectively, at 700 and 450 °C for a cell with 35 μm thick electrolyte operating on hydrogen fuel. The endothermic nature of the ammonia decomposition reaction, however, resulted in cell temperature 30–65 °C lower than the furnace when operating on ammonia. Accounting the cooling effect, comparable power density was achieved for the cell operating on ammonia and hydrogen at high temperature. At reduced temperature, the cell demonstrated worse performance when operating on ammonia than on hydrogen due to the poor activity of the anode towards NH3 catalytic decomposition. By applying on-line catalytic decomposition products of N2H4 as the fuel, similar cell performance to that with NH3 fuel was also observed.  相似文献

Hydrazine was examined as a fuel for a solid-oxide fuel cell (SOFC) that employed a typical nickel-based anode. An in situ catalytic decomposition of hydrazine at liquid state under room temperature and ambient pressure before introducing to the fuel cell was developed by applying a Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3−δ (BSCF) oxide catalyst. Catalytic testing demonstrated that liquid N2H4 can be decomposed to gaseous NH3 and H2 at a favorable rate and at a temperature as low as 20 °C and H2 selectivity reaching values as high as 10% at 60 °C. Comparable fuel cell performance was observed using either the in situ decomposition products of hydrazine or pure hydrogen as fuel. A peak power density of ∼850 mW cm−2 at 900 °C was obtained with a typical fuel cell composed of scandia-stabilized zirconia and La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 cathode. The high energy and power density, easy storage and simplicity in fuel delivery make it highly attractive for portable applications.  相似文献

The initialization of an anode-supported single-chamber solid-oxide fuel cell, with NiO + Sm0.2Ce0.8O1.9 anode and Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3−δ + Sm0.2Ce0.8O1.9 cathode, was investigated. The initialization process had significant impact on the observed performance of the fuel cell. The in situ reduction of the anode by a methane–air mixture failed. Although pure methane did reduce the nickel oxide, it also resulted in severe carbon coking over the anode and serious distortion of the fuel cell. In situ initialization by hydrogen led to simultaneous reduction of both the anode and cathode; however, the cell still delivered a maximum power density of ∼350 mW cm−2, attributed to the re-formation of the BSCF phase under the methane–air atmosphere at high temperatures. The ex situ reduction method appeared to be the most promising. The activated fuel cell showed a peak power density of ∼570 mW cm−2 at a furnace temperature of 600 °C, with the main polarization resistance contributed from the electrolyte.  相似文献

An anode-supported La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg0.2O3 − δ (LSGM) electrolyte membrane is successfully fabricated by simple, cost-effective spin coating process. Nano-sized NiO and Ce0.8Gd0.2O3 − α (GDC) powders derived from precipitation and citric-nitrate process, respectively, are used for anode support. The dense and uniform LSGM membrane of ca. 50 μm in thickness is obtained by sintering at relatively low temperature 1300 °C for 5 h. A single cell based on the as-prepared LSGM electrolyte membrane exhibits desirable high cell performance and generates high output power densities of 760 mW cm−2 at 700 °C and 257 mW cm−2 at 600 °C, respectively, when operated with humidified hydrogen as the fuel and air as the oxidant. The single cell is characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electrochemical AC impedance. The results demonstrate that it is feasible to fabricate dense LSGM membrane for solid oxide fuel cell by this simple, cost-effective and efficient process. In addition, optimized anode microstructure significantly reduces polarization resistance (0.025 Ω cm2 at 700 °C).  相似文献

The Ba0.5Sr0.5Zn0.2Fe0.8O3−δ (BSZF) complex oxide with cubic perovskite structure was synthesized and examined as a new cobalt-free cathode for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). The electrical conductivity was relatively low with a peak value of 9.4 S cm−1 at about 590 °C, which was mainly caused by the high concentration of oxygen vacancy and the doping of bivalent zinc in B-sites. At 650 °C and under open circuit condition, symmetrical BSZF cathode on Sm-doped ceria (SDC) electrolyte showed polarization resistances (Rp) of 0.48 Ω cm2 and 0.35 Ω cm2 in air and oxygen, respectively. The dependence of Rp with oxygen partial pressure indicated that the rate-limiting step for oxygen reduction was oxygen adsorption/desorption kinetics. Using BSZF as the cathode, the wet hydrogen fueled Ni + SDC anode-supported single cell exhibited peak power densities of 392 mW cm−2 and 626 mW cm−2 at 650 °C when stationary air and oxygen flux were used as oxidants, respectively.  相似文献

This study presents the electrochemical performance of (Ba0.5Sr0.5)0.9Sm0.1Co0.8Fe0.2O3−δ (BSSCF) as a cathode material for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFC). AC-impedance analyses were carried on an electrolyte supported BSSCF/Sm0.2Ce0.8O1.9 (SDC)/Ag half-cell and a Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3−δ (BSCF)/SDC/Ag half-cell. In contrast to the BSCF cathode half-cell, the total resistance of the BSSCF cathode half-cell was lower, e.g., at 550 °C; the values for the BSSCF and BSCF were 1.54 and 2.33 Ω cm2, respectively. The cell performance measurements were conducted on a Ni-SDC anode supported single cell using a SDC thin film as electrolyte, and BSSCF layer as cathode. The maximum power densities were 681 mW cm−2 at 600 °C and 820 mW cm−2 at 650 °C.  相似文献

PrBaCo2O5+δ (PBCO) powder was prepared by a combined EDTA and citrate complexing method. The electrochemical performance of PBCO as a cathode for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs) was evaluated. A porous layer of PBCO was deposited on a 42 μm thick electrolyte consisting of Ce0.8Sm0.2O1.9 (SDC), prepared by a dry-pressing process. A fuel cell with a structure PBCO/SDC/Ni-SDC provides a maximum power density of 866, 583, 313 and 115 mW cm−2 at 650, 600, 550 and 500 °C, respectively, using hydrogen as the fuel and stationary air as the oxidant. The total resistance of the cell was about 0.41, 0.51, 0.57 and 0.77 Ω cm2, respectively. This encouraging data identifies PBCO as a potential cathode material for IT-SOFCs.  相似文献

A polyvinyl alcohol assisted combustion synthesis method was used to prepare Ce0.8Sm0.2O2−δ (SDC) powders for an intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cell (IT-SOFC). The XRD results showed that this combustion synthesis route could yield phase-pure SDC powders at a relatively low calcination temperature. A thin SDC electrolyte film with thickness control was produced by a dry pressing method at a lower sintering temperature of 1250 °C. With Sm0.5Sr0.5Co3-SDC as the composite cathode, a single cell based on this thin SDC electrolyte was tested from 550 to 650 °C. The maximum power density of 936 mW cm−2 was achieved at 650 °C using humidified hydrogen as the fuel and stationary air as the oxidant.  相似文献

Cathode-supported solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), comprising porous Pr0.35Nd0.35Sr0.3MnO3−δ (PNSM)/Sm0.2Ce0.8O1.95 (SDC) cathode supports, SDC function layers, YSZ electrolyte membranes and NiO/SDC anode layers, were successfully fabricated via suspensions coating and single-step co-firing process. The microstructures of electrolyte membranes were observed with scanning electron microscope (SEM). The assembled single cell was electrochemically characterized with humidified hydrogen as fuel and ambient air as oxidant. The open circuit voltage (OCV) of the cell was 1.036 V at 650 °C, and the peak power densities were 657, 472, 290 and 166 mW cm−2 at 800, 750, 700 and 650 °C, respectively. Impedance analysis indicated that the performance of cathode-supported cell was determined essentially by electrode polarization resistance, which suggested that optimizing electrodes was especially important for improving the cell performance.  相似文献

The SrCo0.9Sb0.1O3−δ (SCS) composite oxide with cubic perovskite structure was synthesized by a modified Pechini method and examined as a novel cathode for protonic ceramic membrane fuel cells (PCMFCs). At 700 °C and under open-circuit condition, symmetrical SCS cathode on BaZr0.1Ce0.7Y0.2O3−δ (BZCY7) electrolyte showed low polarization resistances (Rp) of 0.22 Ωcm2 in air. A laboratory-sized tri-layer cell of NiO–BZCY7/BZCY7/SCS was operated from 500 to 700 °C with humidified hydrogen (∼3% H2O) as fuel and the static air as oxidant. A high open-circuit potential of 1.004 V, a maximum power density of 259 mW cm−2, and a low polarization resistance of the electrodes of 0.14 Ωcm2 was achieved at 700 °C.  相似文献

In order to prepare a dense proton-conductive Ba(Zr0.1Ce0.7)Y0.2O3−δ (BZCY7) electrolyte membrane, a proper anode composition with 65% Ni2O3 in weight ratio was determined after investigating the effects of anode compositions on anode shrinkages for co-sintering. The thermal expansion margins between sintered anodes and electrolytes, which were less than 1% below 750 °C, also showed good thermal expansion compatibility. A suspension spray combined with particle gradation method had been introduced to prepare dense electrolyte membrane on porous anode support. After a heat treatment at 1400 °C for 5 h, a cell with La0.5Sr0.5CoO3−δ (LSCO) cathode was assembled and tested with hydrogen and ammonia as fuels. The outputs reached as high as 330 mW cm−2 in hydrogen and 300 mW cm−2 in ammonia at 700 °C, respectively. Comparing with the interface of another cell prepared by dry-pressing method, this one also showed a good interface contact between electrodes and electrolyte. To sum up, this combined technique can be considered as commercial fabrication technology candidate.  相似文献

A Sm0.5Sr0.5CoO3−δ-Ce0.8Sm0.2O2−δ (SSC-SDC) composite is employed as a cathode for proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cells (H-SOFCs). BaZr0.1Ce0.7Y0.2O3−δ (BZCY) is used as the electrolyte, and the system exhibits a relatively high performance. An extremely low electrode polarization resistance of 0.066 Ω cm2 is achieved at 700 °C. The maximum power densities are: 665, 504, 344, 214, and 118 mW cm−2 at 700, 650, 600, 550, and 500 °C, respectively. Moreover, the SSC-SDC cathode shows an essentially stable performance for 25 h at 600 °C with a constant output voltage of 0.5 V. This excellent performance implies that SSC-SDC, which is a typical cathode material for SOFCs based on oxide ionic conductor, is also a promising alternative cathode for H-SOFCs.  相似文献

SmBaCo2O5+x (SBCO), an oxide with double-perovskite structure, has been developed as a novel cathode material for intermediate-temperature solid-oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). The electrical conductivity of an SBCO sample reaches 815–434 S cm−1 in the temperature range 500–800 °C. XRD results show that an SBCO cathode is chemically compatible with the intermediate-temperature electrolyte materials Sm0.2Ce0.8O1.9 (SDC) and La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg0.2O3−δ (LSGM). The polarization resistances of an SBCO cathode on SDC and LSGM electrolytes are 0.098 and 0.054 Ω cm2 at 750 °C, respectively. The maximum power densities of a single cell with an SBCO cathode on SDC and LSGM electrolytes reach 641 and 777 mW cm−2 at 800 °C, respectively. The results of this study demonstrate that the double-perovskite structure oxide SBCO is a very promising cathode material for use in IT-SOFCs.  相似文献

Thin proton-conducting electrolyte with composition BaCe0.8Gd0.2O3−δ (BCGO) was prepared over substrates composed of Ce0.8Gd0.2O1.9 (CGO)-Ni by the dry-pressing method. Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) were fabricated with the structure Ni-CGO/BCGO/Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3−δ (BSCFO)-CGO. The performance of a single cell was tested at 600 and 650 °C, with ammonia directly used as fuel. The open circuit voltages (OCVs) were 1.12 and 1.1 V at 600 and 650 °C, respectively. The higher OCV may be due to both the compaction of the BCGO electrolyte (no porosity) and complete decomposition of ammonia. The maximum power density was 147 mW cm−2 at 600 °C. Comparisons of the cell with hydrogen as fuel indicate that ammonia can be treated as a substitute liquid fuel for SOFCs based on a proton-conducting solid electrolyte.  相似文献

SrCe0.9Y0.1O3−δ (SCY10) powder with a pure perovskite phase is prepared by solid-state reaction method. NiO is dispersed uniformly in SCY10 powder to fabricate NiO-SCY10 anode substrate. The starting powder, the mixture of SrCO3, CeO2 and Y2O3, is deposited directly on the green substrate instead of SCY10 powder by spin coating. After co-firing at 1300 °C for 3 h, the starting powder reacts to form SCY10 top layer on the substrate. SEM micrographs show that the top layer is defect-free and adheres well with the anode substrate without any delamination. A single fuel cell is assembled with anode-supported SCY10 membrane as electrolyte membrane and Ag as cathode. The electrochemical property of the fuel cell is tested with hydrogen as fuel in the temperature range of 600-800 °C. The open circuit voltage (OCV) reaches 1.05 V at 800 °C, and the maximum power density is 50 mW cm−2, 155 mW cm−2, 200 mW cm−2 at 600 °C, 700 °C, 800 °C, respectively.  相似文献

A-site cation-ordered PrBaCo2O5+δ (PrBC) double perovskite oxide was synthesized and evaluated as the cathode of an intermediate-temperature solid-oxide fuel cell (IT-SOFC) on a samarium-doped ceria (SDC) electrolyte. The phase reaction between PrBC and SDC was weak even at 1100 °C. The oxygen reduction mechanism was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy characterization. Over the intermediate-temperature range of 450–700 °C, the electrode polarization resistance was mainly contributed from oxygen-ion transfer through the electrode–electrolyte interface and electron charge transfer over the electrode surface. An area-specific resistance as low as ∼0.4 Ω cm2 was measured at 600 °C in air, based on symmetric cell test. A thin-film SDC electrolyte fuel cell with PrBC cathode was fabricated which delivered attractive peak power densities of 620 and 165 mW cm−2 at 600 and 450 °C, respectively.  相似文献

In order to improve the electrical conductivity of the SrSc0.2Co0.8O3−δ (SrScCo) electrode, a composite of 70 wt% SrSc0.2Co0.8O3−δ and 30 wt% Sm0.5Sr0.5CoO3−δ (SrScCo + SmSrCo) was prepared and investigated for electrochemical oxygen reduction at intermediate temperatures. The phase reaction between SrScCo and SmSrCo and its effect on the electrical conductivity, oxygen vacancy concentration and oxygen mobility were examined by XRD, 4-probe DC conductivity measurement, iodometry titration and O2-TPD experiment, respectively. The results showed that the composite reached a maximum conductivity around 123 S cm−1 at 600 °C, nearly five times that of SrScCo. AC impedance results showed that the electron charge-transfer process was greatly improved by forming the composite electrode, while the oxygen-ion charge-transfer process was somewhat deteriorated. By firing at 1000 °C for 2 h, a SOFC with the SrScCo + SmSrCo cathode and thin-film SDC electrolyte delivered peak power densities of 1100 and 366 mW cm−2 at 600 and 500 °C, respectively, which were only modestly lower than those of a similar cell with a pure SrScCo cathode.  相似文献

A novel Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3 − δ + LaCoO3 (BSCF + LC) composite oxide was investigated for the potential application as a cathode for intermediate-temperature solid-oxide fuel cells based on a Sm0.2Ce0.8O1.9 (SDC) electrolyte. The LC oxide was added to BSCF cathode in order to improve its electrical conductivity. X-ray diffraction examination demonstrated that the solid-state reaction between LC and BSCF phases occurred at temperatures above 950 °C and formed the final product with the composition: La0.316Ba0.342Sr0.342Co0.863Fe0.137O3 − δ at 1100 °C. The inter-diffusion between BSCF and LC was identified by the environmental scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray examination. The electrical conductivity of the BSCF + LC composite oxide increased with increasing calcination temperature, and reached a maximum value of ∼300 S cm−1 at a calcination temperature of 1050 °C, while the electrical conductivity of the pure BSCF was only ∼40 S cm−1. The improved conductivity resulted in attractive cathode performance. An area-specific resistance as low as 0.21 Ω cm2 was achieved at 600 °C for the BSCF (70 vol.%) + LC (30 vol.%) composite cathode calcined at 950 °C for 5 h. Peak power densities as high as ∼700 mW cm−2 at 650 °C and ∼525 mW cm−2 at 600 °C were reached for the thin-film fuel cells with the optimized cathode composition and calcination temperatures.  相似文献

PrBaCo2O5+δ-Ce0.8Sm0.2O1.9 (PBCO-SDC) composite material are prepared and characterized as cathode for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). The powder X-ray diffraction result proves that there are no obvious reaction between the PBCO and SDC after calcination at 1100 °C for 3 h. AC impedance spectra based on SDC electrolyte measured at intermediate temperatures shows that the addition of SDC to PBCO improved remarkably the electrochemical performance of a PBCO cathode, and that a PBCO-30SDC cathode exhibits the best electrochemical performance in the PBCO-xSDC system. The total interfacial resistances Rp is the smallest when the content of SDC is 30 wt%, where the value is 0.035 Ω cm2 at 750 °C, 0.072 Ω cm2 at 700 °C, and 0.148 Ω cm2 at 650 °C, much lower than the corresponding interfacial resistance for pure PBCO. The maximum power density of an anode-supported single cell with PBCO-30SDC cathode, Ni-SDC anode, and dense thin SDC/LSGM (La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg0.2O3−δ)/SDC tri-layer electrolyte are 364, 521 and 741 mW cm−2 at 700, 750 and 800 °C, respectively.  相似文献

In order to develop a simple and cost-effective route to fabricate proton-conductor intermediate-temperature SOFCs, a dense BaZr0.1Ce0.7Y0.2O3−δ (BZCY) electrolyte was fabricated on a porous anode by in situ drop-coating. The PrBaCuFeO5+δ (PBCF) composite oxide with layered perovskite structure was synthesized by auto ignition process and examined as a novel cathode for proton-conductor IT-SOFCs. The single cell, consisting of PBCF/BZCY/NiO-BZCY structure, was assembled and tested from 600 to 700 °C with humidified hydrogen (∼3% H2O) as the fuel and the static air as the oxidant. An open-circuit potential of 1.01 V and a maximum power density of 445 mW cm−2 at 700 °C were obtained for the single cell. A relatively low interfacial polarization resistance of 0.15 Ω cm2 at 700 °C indicated that the PBCF is a promising cathode for proton-conductor IT-SOFCs.  相似文献
