This article presents an innovative onsite 3D marking approach for tracking the progress of construction activities using an Ultra Wide Band (UWB) positioning system. The 3D marking approach is used to track activities that could not be tracked previously using object-based tracking models, including welding and inspection activities for pipelines. A field experimentation study on an industrial-type building construction project was conducted to demonstrate the method and evaluate its performance in a construction environment and a software application was developed using MATLAB to automate the data analysis and progress estimation procedure. The results of the field experiments confirmed the feasibility of the developed 3D marking approach for tracking a number of construction activities, such as welding and inspection, which are not associated with the addition or movement of objects on a site and therefore could not be tracked using traditional object-based models. 相似文献

Inadequate and poorly maintained pavement markings are considered to be one of the largest contributing factors to fatal motor vehicle crashes. As a result, it is essential to apply the appropriate pavement marking material for all weather conditions in order to increase public safety and reduce motor vehicle crashes. Building a strategic plan to renew and re-stripe pavement marking is receiving increasing interest from companies/authorities that manage the pavement marking in order to reach the most cost-efficient management plan of the available pavement marking materials. The objective of this paper is to develop pavement marking performance models that predict the condition of different marking materials under various service conditions including weather, traffic and snow removal plans. The developed models are validated and the results show that the average percent validity varies from 87% to 99%. Marking performance is assessed using a condition rating scale, which numerically ranges from 1 to 5 and linguistically from excellent to critical, respectively. Deterioration curves are developed that assess the condition of the pavement marking based on the developed models. They are expected to benefit academics and practitioners (municipal engineers, consultants, and contractors) to prioritise inspection, stripping, and re-stripping planning for various pavement markings. 相似文献

Poorly maintained pavement marking might certainly contribute to road accidents. The cost of road accidents is estimated to be 10–25 billion Canadian dollars annually. Accordingly, it is necessary for municipalities to develop a strategic cost-effective plan in order to renew and restripe pavement markings. Therefore, the objective of the present research is to model the effect of various factors on pavement marking conditions. Data on Alkyd paint pavement marking material are collected from the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Since the collected data from municipalities in Canada always include input variables and fail to provide output variable(s) (e.g. condition), an unsupervised neural network (UNN) model is first developed to generate the condition of pavement marking (output). Then, regression and neurofuzzy models are developed based upon the results of UNN model. The developed models are validated in which they show satisfactory results. A sensitivity analysis is performed to show the effect of changing the input variables on the developed models’ output(s). 相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to assess the effectiveness of photoluminescent material (PLM) in support of occupant evacuation
in office buildings. The first study completed in 1999 was designed to assess the potential use of PLM as a safety communication
system to support office occupant evacuation. The study measured the occupant premovement time, movement time and evacuation
speed in four stairways with different lighting and PLM installations. The positive outcome of the first study regarding a
comparable speed of movement in the different stairways used and the conclusive feedback from the evacuees regarding the PLM
wayguidance system led to a second study. The second study, completed in 2008, compared 3 stairway installations of PLM markings
and a stairway with emergency lighting, which acted as a reference stairway. Results show comparable speed of movement under
severe crowd conditions for the 4 stairways studied. Overall, two-thirds of the respondents felt comfortable going down the
stairways with PLM markings particularly in the 2 stairways where the marking was installed across each step. The stairway,
which had only emergency lighting, and the stairway with L-shaped markers at the edge of each step were less appreciated by
the occupants. Occupants commented that the landings and mid-landings were difficult to identify in all the stairways, which
suggest that additional marking should be provided in these areas. The findings of these two studies led to the development
of a best practice Guide for installation of PLM marking in exit stairways. 相似文献
