Modernizing the K-1000-60/1500 turbine unit’s condensers by replacing the material of cooling tubes

The results obtained from modernization of the K-1000-60/1500 turbine’s lateral condensers are described. This modernization, in which tubes with thinner walls were used, resulted in a larger heat-transfer surface area and in better average vacuum. A 3.2-MW gain in the power unit capacity was obtained, and better reliability of the condenser itself was achieved.     

A numerical analysis of the serial design of the T-250/300-23.5 cogeneration turbine low-pressure cylinder’s exhaust hood

A mathematical model of the low-pressure cylinder’s exhaust compartment used in the serial design version of the T-250/300-23.5 turbine is constructed. The exhaust compartment consists of the turbine flow path last stage, a moisture removal chamber, and an exhaust hood (the EH stage). The effect of individual elements of the low-pressure cylinder exhaust compartment’s flow path on its gas dynamic characteristics in condensing modes of operation is numerically modeled for a wide range of steam flow rates. For the compartment with the exhaust hood completely filled with its inner elements, the flow patterns are calculated in partial modes of operation with presenting data on losses and flow-averaged integral characteristics at the diffuser inlet. The calculation results have been verified against the data of full-scale and model tests.

Shaft torque observer and excitation control for turbine–generator torsional oscillation

In recent years, gas turbines have been attracting a lot of attention in the field of dispersed generations and co-generation systems. The gas turbine generation system always has the problem of the shaft torsional oscillation, and their counter measures that can apply especially for the in-house generating plants at 10 MW scale are required. For technical and financial reasons, the number of sensors has to be reduced to an acceptable minimum, and generally it is not possible to measure the torsional oscillations at all critical shaft locations. Thus the torsional oscillations on the crucial components should be estimated by using the measured rotating speed at turbine shaft end. This paper presents the shaft torque observer and coordinated controllers for the in-house generating plants. In this study the turbine model with 7-mass has been used, and the rate of the in-house generating shaft is 5 MVA. Linear quadratic regulat or theory (LQR) is used to design the observer gain, which provides acceptable estimated values. The estimation accuracy of this observer is within 10%, and the influence by the measurement error of the shaft parameter is also a little.

On the local approximation of the electron–photon interaction self-energy

We investigate the impact of the so-called local, i.e., diagonal, approximation for the electron–photon scattering self-energy, within the nonequilibrium Green’s function formalism. We report on three different systems to show that the local approximation may dramatically degrade expected selection rules, but that this degradation has minor impacts on the physical properties of realistic systems in which other scattering processes are assumed.

Water chemistry of the system for cooling the electrical generator’ stator of the power unit at a thermal power station

Results from studies of the water chemistry used in the system for cooling the stator windings of alternators used in supercritical-pressure power units are presented, and a solution is suggested using which the standardized pH value of cooling water is maintained in the range 8.0–9.0. It is shown that addition of NaOH in the water cooling system when a drop of pH value occurs cannot fully satisfy the requirements of the operating circular due to low buffer properties of aqueous medium.
