An analysis of a laterally symmetric parallel waveguide structure has been carried out by using symmetric and antisymmetric eigenmodes in the coupled mode equations. As opposed to modes of each individual guide, eigenmodes are orthogonal and therefore comply with coupled mode formalism. Of particular interest has been the popular configurationZ -cut LiNbO3 with Wave propagation along the crystalY -axis. The theory shows that output versus voltage characteristics are nonperiodic in voltage, and furthermore, they are asymmetric if the eigenmodes are not equally excited. The uniform electrode coupler can easily be explained in terms of eigenmode coupling and interference. 相似文献

A full-wave analysis is applied to a nonradiative dielectric waveguide where the isotropic dielectric slab is replaced by a transversely magnetized ferrite. The characteristic equation is obtained and the corresponding effects are discussed. The above structure exhibits reciprocal propagation characteristics. Nonreciprocal effects are also possible with a proper dielectric loading. Several numerical results are presented in the form of dispersion curve and an operational diagram, as a function of several ferrite and guide parameters. A full-wave analysis of microwave integrated circuits in multilayer dielectric media in a rectangular waveguide is described. It combines spectral-domain approach with residue theory and the contour integration method to accurately evaluate the impedance matrix of the method of moments. The S-parameters are obtained by exciting the circuit with a voltage gap generator and applying the matrix pencil technique, or by impressing traveling-wave currents. This paper presents a full-wave analysis of a variety of coplanar waveguide discontinuities using the frequency domain TLM method. The finite metallization thickness is taken into account as well as metal losses and the interaction of fundamental and higher order modes between cascaded discontinuities. Numerical results are presented for the frequency-dependent s-parameters of transitions between CPW and slotline, CPW and microstrip line and CPW-microstrip overlap transition. The authors present a detailed full-wave analysis of a coplanar waveguide (CPW) and a slotline by the time-domain finite-difference (TD-FD) method. The transient waveforms propagating along the coplanar waveguide and slotline, which are excited by retarded Gaussian pulses, are found in the time domain. After the time-domain field distributions are obtained, frequency-domain parameters such as the effective dielectric constant and the complex characteristic impedance are calculated using Fourier transformations. The results agree well with available theoretical and experimental data over a wide frequency range. The validity of the quasi-TEM assumptions for CPW and slotline analyses is also checked by evaluating the ratios of the longitudinal and transverse field components directly 相似文献

This paper presents a new microwave device - a non-radiative dielectric (NRD) waveguide with a dielectric pseudochiral Ω-slab - the Ω-NRD waveguide. A rigorous full-wave analysis is presented and the modal equations for the longitudinal-section magnetic (LSM) and longitudinal-section electric (LSE) modes are derived. The dispersion curves and operational diagrams for the first hybrid LSM modes are presented. The effect of the pseudochiral Ω-medium is discussed. New interesting modal features are revealed, showing that the propagation characteristics may differ considerably from the common isotropic case 相似文献

It is shown that the broad-band coupling properties of narrow-wall short-slot directional couplers and hybrids are due to the effect of the evanescent TE30 mode in the coupling region. This causes a change to the effective phase length of the even-mode circuit, especially when a central tuning element is used. Using the results of a previous paper on the formation of an equivalent circuit from the generalized scattering matrix, an equivalent circuit for the even mode of the coupler is formed, clearly depicting the effect of the TE30 mode 相似文献

The structure-related (SR) finite-difference beam-propagation method is applied to integrated optical couplers employing curved waveguide sections. A general nonorthogonal coordinate system is introduced that matches the local structure geometry, yielding a more accurate analysis with coarser meshes than standard schemes, thus providing significant computational resource savings. Furthermore, the algorithm is easily interfaced with conventional schemes. Examples of curved two-dimensional and three-dimensional directional waveguide couplers are examined to show the advantages and generality of SR schemes as well as to explore the role of the extra degrees of freedom offered by nonorthogonal meshing. 相似文献

The E-plane waveguide branch directional couplers are analyzed by a method which combines the multimode network theory with rigorous mode-matching approach. The electromagnetic field components are expanded by the superposition of LSEx modes rather than TE and TM modes in the mode-matching procedure. Meanwhile, the electromagnetic problem is transferred into the network problem through the mode-matching treatment. It is shown that the present method has the advantages of simplicity and less computation without affecting the accuracy of the calculation. 相似文献

Grating couplers for efficient coupling between silicon sandwiched slot waveguides and standard singlemode fibres are demonstrated. Coupling efficiency up to 20% is experimentally measured for TM polarisation and a wavelength of 1550 nm. A 20 nm 1 dB bandwidth is also obtained. Higher coupling efficiency is expected for particular designs according to simulation results. 相似文献

An extended version of the spectral domain approach (SDA) is developed to analyze discontinuities in open coplanar waveguide with finite metallization thickness. By making use of the exact Green's function in the spectral domain, the effects of surface wave and radiation phenomena are accurately accounted for. Both longitudinal and transverse components of the aperture electric fields are used in the analysis to allow modelling of structures with large transverse dimensions at high frequencies. The procedure also includes mode conversion near the discontinuities. As an illustration of the method, analytical steps and computed scattering parameters of the coplanar waveguide short-circuits and transitions are provided and compared against measured data 相似文献

设计了一种结构紧凑、工作频带较宽、耦合平稳、高方向性的十字形多孔耦合的太赫兹波导定向耦合器。基于多孔耦合原理,利用HFSS软件对太赫兹波导定向耦合器进行了模型仿真和结构优化。仿真结果表明:在325~475 GHz带宽范围内,该多孔耦合太赫兹波导定向耦合器耦合度达到7.50.8 dB,隔离度达到30 dB,即方向性优于20 dB,各端口回波损耗小于-20 dB。通过对该波导定向耦合器进行高温高压模拟仿真,确定了使用负性光刻胶SU-8作为结构材料的可行性,提出应用MEMS工艺在硅衬底上进行加工,将牺牲层工艺应用到波导腔结构的制作中。利用光刻在直通波导和耦合波导公共宽壁上形成的十字形等间距排列耦合孔结构,可以实现较宽的带宽和良好的耦合平坦度。该方法提高了耦合孔尺寸和位置的精度,减小了反射损耗,为太赫兹波导结构的加工提供了新思路。 相似文献

The design of grating-assisted, channel waveguide codirectional couplers is demonstrated using the Gel'fand-Levitan-Marchenko inverse scattering method. Weighted coupling coefficients are computed from rational expression for the desired wavelength response. Approximate formulas that relate the waveguide and grating geometries to the computed coupling coefficients are derived. The technique is illustrated by designing a directional coupler with a third-order Butterworth filter characteristic and a 130 Å full-width-half-maximum bandwidth 相似文献

The operation of two-guide couplers is re-examined to include the effects of cross power. Two two-guide coupler structures that operate as on-off switches are analyzed using both the exact eigenmodes of a slab model of the coupler and a coupled-mode theory that takes cross-power effects into account. The two coupler configurations analyzed are with the output guide on the same side as the input guide and on the side of the coupled guide. For the proper choice of the length of the coupler in the first case, the waveguide detuning can be adjusted so that ideal switching behavior can be achieved. Coaxial waveguides are very commonly used in many microwave subsystems for the connection of various components. Significant size reduction could, therefore, be achieved by integrating the design of the coaxial transition in the computer-aided design (CAD) of microwave filters. In this context, we first discuss in this paper a coaxial transition, which can be efficiently designed interactively using an accurate and efficient CAD procedure. The key elements of the CAD tool developed are then described and a specific example of a microwave filter is discussed. We describe the design and optimization of a new polarizer structure realized in circular waveguide with insertion of elliptical irises. The device is compact, showing a considerable reduction in size and weight when compared to previously known realizations. It requires manufacturing by milling techniques only and, since it is composed entirely by waveguides with separable cross sections, it is also well suited for electromagnetic modeling. Measured and theoretical results for a polarizer with a 90°±1° differential phase shift and a return loss better than 35 dB for both polarizations over the operating frequency band confirm the validity of the proposed design 相似文献

A wavelength division multiplexer based on curved polymer planar waveguide is proposed. According to the coupled modetheory and the waveguide structure, the performance of the curved waveguide coupler (CWC) is analyzed. The results showthat CWC can accommodate wider multiplexing bandwidth than parallel straight waveguide coupler (SWC) due to thecompensation effect of the effective coupling length. The two variables, curvature radius and minimum spacing, increasethe design flexibility of the waveguide device. A 4-channel wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system based onCWC is designed. The deviation of the center wavelength, due to the errors of curvature radius and minimum spacingduring fabrication process, is investigated. The spectral-domain method is used to calculate the frequency-dependent even- and odd-mode effective dielectric constants of symmetric coplanar waveguide forward directional couplers. Comparisons are made with symmetric microstrip forward couplers on the same substrate that have the same line spacing and access port characteristic impedance.
