The effect of three different solid lubricants (graphite, Sb2S3, and MoS2) in the brake friction material on various aspects of friction characteristics was investigated. Three friction material specimens were produced based on an experimental formulation, and they contained 10 vol.% graphite, 7 vol.% graphite + 3 vol.% Sb2S3, and 7 vol.% graphite + 3 vol.% MoS2, respectively, fixing the composition of other ingredients. Tribological properties of the friction materials were obtained using a brake dynamometer. Results showed that the friction materials containing Sb2S3 and graphite improved friction stability and fade resistance. The friction materials with Sb2S3 and MoS2, on the other hand, exhibited disadvantages in terms of wear resistance, anti-fading, and DTV (disk thickness variation) generation.  相似文献

The carbon fabric composites filled with the particulates of nano-SiO2, nano-TiO2, and nano-CaCO3, respectively, were prepared by dip-coating of the carbon fabric in a phenolic resin containing the particulates to be incorporated and the successive curing. The friction and wear behaviors of the resulting carbon fabric composites sliding against AISI-1045 steel in a pin-on-disc configuration were evaluated on a Xuanwu-III high temperature friction and wear tester. The tensile strength and adhesion strength of the filled carbon fabric composites were determined on a DY35 universal materials test machine. The morphologies of the worn surfaces of the unfilled and filled carbon fabric composites and the transfer films on the counterpart steel pins were analyzed by means of scanning electron microscopy, and the elemental plane distributions on the transfer films were analyzed with an energy dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDAX). It was found that the nano-particles as the fillers contributed to significantly improve the mechanical properties and wear-resistance of the carbon fabric. Nano-CaCO3 as the filler was the most effective in increasing the wear-resistance, while nano-SiO2 was the most effective in increasing the friction-reducing ability and mechanical properties. This was because the nano-particulates as the fillers contributed to enhance the bonding strength between the carbon fabric and the adhesive resin. Moreover, the friction and wear properties of the carbon fabric composites were closely dependent on the characteristics of the transfer films formed on the counterpart steel pin surfaces and on the environmental temperature as well. Namely, the differences in the wear-resistance of various filled carbon fabric composites were related to the differences of their transfer films on the counterpart steel pin surface. The wear rates of the composites at elevated temperature above 180 °C were much larger than that below 180 °C, which was attributed to the degradation and decomposition of the adhesive resin at excessively elevated temperature.  相似文献

SiO2, TiO2, and hydroxyapatite (HA) thin films with good biocompatibility were grown on Ti–6Al–4V (coded as TC4) substrate by sol–gel and dip-coating processes from specially formulated sols, followed by annealing at 500 °C The chemical states of some typical elements in the target films were detected by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are applied to characterize the original unworn films. The tribological properties of thin films sliding against an AISI52100 steel ball were evaluated on a reciprocating friction and wear tester. As the result, the target films composed of nano-particles ranging from 30 nm to 100 nm around were obtained. All the sol–gel ceramic films are superior in resisting wear compared with the TC4 substrate. Among all, HA film shows the best resistance while SiO2 film shows the worst wear resistance both under higher (3 N) and lower load (1 N). TiO2 shows good wear resistance under lower load (1 N). SEM observation of the morphologies of worn surfaces indicates that the wear of TC4 is characteristic of abrasive wear. Differently, abrasion, plastic deformation and micro-fracture dominate the wear of ceramic films. The superior friction reduction and wear resistance of HA film is greatly due to the slight plastic deformation of the film. It is supposed that the deformation of the HA film is closely related to the special arrangement of the nano-particles and microstructure. HA film is recommended for clinical application from the point of wear resistance view.  相似文献

The tribological properties of a Ti–MoS2 coating (9 at% Ti) were studied at macroscopic length scales with an in situ tribometer and at microscopic length scales with a nanoindentation instrument equipped for microsliding experiments. Measurements were conducted in controlled environments at both low and high humidity (i.e. ~4%RH and ~35%RH). Reciprocating micro- and macro-sliding tests were performed with spherical diamond tip with a 50 μm radius and a sapphire tip with a radius of 3.175 mm, respectively. For both scales, the range of Hertzian contact pressures was between 0.41 GPa and 1.2 GPa. In situ video microscopy observations identified that the dominant velocity accommodation mode at macro-scale was interfacial sliding. However, an additional velocity accommodation mode, transfer film shearing, was also observed with higher humidity. Overall higher friction was observed with microtribology compared to macrotribology. The higher coefficient of friction was attributed to three different stages during the sliding process, which were identified with respect to different contact pressures, contact areas, tip shapes, and environmental conditions. The first two stages exhibited a solid lubrication behavior with some combination of interfacial sliding, transfer film shearing and microplowing. The transfer film thicknesses for these stages, normalized to the initial Hertzian contact radius, fell in a range of 0.001–0.1. For the third stage, the dominant VAM was plowing and the normalized transfer film thickness fell below this range. Comparisons between the two scales demonstrated that for dry sliding, microscopic contacts on Ti–MoS2 deviate slightly from macroscopic behavior, showing higher limiting friction and microplowing. For humid sliding, microscopic contacts deviate significantly from macroscopic behavior, showing plowing behavior and absence of transfer films.  相似文献

The tribological properties of NiCr-40 wt% Al2O3 (NC40A) cermet-based composites containing SrSO4 and other lubricant (graphite, MoS2 and Ag) against alumina ball were evaluated to identify their self-lubrication mechanisms from room temperature to 800 °C. The composites demonstrated distinct improvements in effectively reducing friction and wear, as compared to NC40A cermet. The best results were observed for NC40A–10SrSO4–10Ag composite, which exhibited satisfactory reproducibility of friction coefficient over a wide temperature range (200–800 °C) through high temperature cyclic friction tests due to the formation of synergistic lubricating films SrAl4O7, NiCr2O4 and Ag on the contact surface.  相似文献

In order to improve the tribological properties of titanium-based implants, sodium hydroxide (NaOH), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) solutions, sol–gel hydroxyapatite (HA) film, thermal treatment and combined methods of NaOH solution/HA film, H2O2 solution/HA film are used to modify the surfaces of Ti–6Al–4V (coded TC4). The chemical states of some typical elements in the modified surfaces were detected by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The tribological properties of modified surfaces sliding against an AISI52100 steel ball were evaluated on a reciprocating friction and wear tester. As the results, complex surfaces with varied components are obtained. All the methods are effective in improving the wear resistance of Ti–6Al–4V in different degrees. Among all, the surface modified by the combined method of NaOH solution/HA film gives the best tribological performances. The friction coefficient is also greatly reduced by the modification of NaOH solution. The order of the wear resistance under 3 N is as following: Ti–NaOH–HA>Ti–NaOH>Ti–HA>Ti–H2O2–HA>Ti–H2O2 >Ti–500; under 1 N is Ti–HA, Ti–NaOH–HA>Ti–NaOH. For Ti–H2O2, a very low friction coefficient and long wear life over 2000 passes is obtained under 1 N. SEM observation of the morphologies of worn surfaces indicates that the wear of TC4 is characteristic of abrasive wear. Differently, abrasion, plastic deformation and micro–crack dominate the wear of Ti–HA; slight abrasive wear dominate the wear mechanism of Ti–NaOH and microfracture and abrasive wear for Ti–NaOH–HA and Ti–H2O2–HA, while the sample modified by thermal treatment is characterized by sever fracture. The superior friction reduction and wear resistance of HA films are greatly attributed to the slight plastic deformation of the film. NaOH solution is superior in improving the wear resistance and decreasing the friction coefficient under relative higher load (3 N) and H2O2 is helpful to reduce friction and wear under relatively lower load (1 N). Combined method of Ti–NaOH–HA is suggested to improve the wear resistance of Ti–6Al–4V for medial applications under fretting situations.  相似文献

Reciprocating ball-on-flat dry sliding friction and wear experiments have been conducted on single-phase γ-Y2Si2O7 ceramic flats in contact with AISI 52100 bearing steel and Si3N4 ceramic balls at 5–15 N normal loads in an ambient environment. The kinetic friction coefficients of γ-Y2Si2O7 varied in the range over 0.53–0.63 against AISI 52100 steel and between 0.51–0.56 against Si3N4 ceramic. We found that wear occurred predominantly during the running-in period and it almost ceased at the steady friction stage. The wear rates of γ-Y2Si2O7 were in the order of 10?4 mm3/(N m). Besides, wear debris strongly influenced the friction and wear processes. The strong chemical affinity between γ-Y2Si2O7 and AISI 52100 balls led to a thick transfer layer formed on both contact surfaces of the flat and counterpart ball, which changed the direct sliding between the ball and the flat into a shearing within the transfer layer. For the γ-Y2Si2O7/Si3N4 pair, a thin silica hydrate lubricant tribofilm presented above the compressed debris entrapped in the worn track and contact ball surface. This transfer layer and the tribofilm separated the sliding couple from direct contact and contributed to the low friction coefficient and wear rate.  相似文献

Laser surface texturing (LST) was performed on the nickel-based composites by a Nd:YAG pulsed laser and the regular-arranged dimples with diameter of 150 μm were fabricated on their surfaces. The textured surfaces were smeared with molybdenum disulfide powder. The tribological properties of the textured and filled composites were investigated by carrying out sliding wear tests against an alumina ball as a counterface using a high temperature ball-on-disk tribometer. The tests were conducted at a sliding speed of 0.4 m/s and at normal loads ranging from 20–100 N and from room temperature to 600 °C. The friction coefficient of nickel-based composite textured and smeared with molybdenum disulfide was found to reduce from 0.18 to 0.1 at the temperature range from 200 to 400 °C. The texture with a dimple density of 7.1% was observed to prolong wear life of MoS2 film by more than four times in comparison to the texture with other dimple densities. The lubricious oxide particles stored in the dimples reduce friction coefficient at elevated temperatures and compensate for the extra lubricant owing to the degradation of MoS2 caused by its oxidation at high temperatures.  相似文献

Transfer films of PTFE/bronze composites with 5–30% volume content of bronze were prepared using a RFT friction and wear tester on surface of AISI-1045 steel bar by different sliding time (5–60 min). Tribological properties of these transfer films were studied using a DFPM reciprocating tribometer in a point contacting configuration under normal loads of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 N. Thickness and surface morphology of the transfer films were investigated. It was found thickness of the transfer films slightly increased along with the increase of bronze content of corresponding composites. Increased sliding time of transfer film preparation is helpful to form transfer film with better ductibility and continuity, but sliding time almost has no effect on tribological properties of the transfer film. Higher bronze content in the composite improved tribological properties of the corresponding transfer film, i.e., reduced friction coefficient and prolonged wear life. All these transfer films are sensitive to load change. Their wear life becomes shorter along with the increase of load. SEM image of the worn surface show fatigue wear and adhesion wear have happened on the transfer film during the friction process. The author believe bronze in the transfer film effectively partaked in shear force applied on the transfer film and its good ductibility helped to improve tribological properties of the transfer films.  相似文献

PEEK is a high strength engineering thermoplastic that suffers from a high friction coefficient and a friction induced wear mode. Past studies with 10 μm PEEK and PTFE powders resulted in composite solid lubricant that (at the optimal composition) had a wear rate of k = 2 × 10−9 mm3/Nm with a friction coefficient of μ = 0.12. A compositional grading of PEEK and PTFE is implemented in this study to create a bulk composite with the functional requirements of component strength, stiffness and wear resistance while providing solid lubrication at the sliding interface. The tribological performances of three functionally graded PEEK components were evaluated on linear reciprocating, rotating pin-on-disk and thrust washer tribometers. Wear rates comparable to samples of the bulk solid lubricant and comparable or improved frictional performance were achieved by compositionally grading the near surface region of PEEK components.  相似文献

The calcined petroleum coke (CPC), talcum powder (TP) and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) were used as the friction modifiers to improve the mechanical and tribological properties of phenolic resin-based friction composites (the resin matrix was coded as PHE). Thus the composites filled with the inorganic particulates of laminar structures were prepared by compression molding. The hardness and bending strength of the friction composites were measured. The tribological properties of the composites sliding against cast iron were evaluated using a pin-on-disc test rig. The morphologies of the worn surfaces of the composites and the transfer films on the counterpart cast iron disc were analyzed by means of scanning electron microscopy, and the elemental plane distributions on the transfer films were analyzed using energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA). It was found that the friction composites of different compositions showed different friction and wear behaviors, which was highly dependent on the volume fractions of the friction modifiers in the composites. Namely, the inclusion of CPC, h-BN, and TP at a volume fraction of 10% helped to greatly increase the bending strength and wear resistance of the composites, and in these cases the coefficients of friction for the composites were ranged within 0.43–0.47. In particular, the PHE-based composite with 10% h-BN had excellent friction stability at various testing conditions and showed the best wear resistance above 125 °C, which was attributed to the formation of a compact friction film (third-body-layer) on the rubbing surface of the composite and of a durable transfer film on the rubbing surface of the counterpart cast iron. The PHE-based composite with 10% CPC showed the best wear resistance below 125 °C, which was ascribed to the same reasons mentioned above. The different actions of various friction modifiers in terms of their effects on the friction and wear behavior of the phenolic resin-based friction composites could be related to their different bonding strengths with the resin matrix and their different abilities to form friction films (third-body-layer) on the surfaces of the composites and transfer films on the counterpart cast iron surface as well.  相似文献

The non-lubricated, sliding friction and wear behavior of Ti3Si(Al)C2 and SiC-reinforced Ti3Si(Al)C2 composites against AISI 52100 bearing steel ball were investigated using a ball-on-flat, reciprocating tribometer at room temperature. The contact load was varied from 5 to 20 N. For monolithic Ti3Si(Al)C2, high friction coefficients between 0.61 and 0.90 and wear rates between 1.79 × 10−3 and 2.68 × 10−3 mm3 (N m)−1 were measured. With increasing SiC content in the composites, both the friction coefficients and the wear rates were significantly decreased. The friction coefficients reduced to a value between 0.38 and 0.50, and the wear rates to between 2.64 × 10−4 and 1.93 × 10−5 mm3 (N m)−1 when the SiC content ranged from 10 to 30 vol.%. The enhanced wear resistance of Ti3Si(Al)C2 is mainly attributed to the facts that the hard SiC particles inhibit the plastic deformation and fracture of the soft matrix, the oxide debris lubricate the counterpair, and the wear mode converts from adhesive wear to abrasive wear during dry sliding.  相似文献

POM/MoS2 nano-balls composite was prepared by adding MoS2 nano-balls synthesized from Na2MoO4 and CH3CSNH2 into polyoxymethylene (POM). The comparative POM-based composite blended with micro-MoS2 particles was also prepared. The obtained POM/MoS2 composites were used as the polymerical layer in the three-layer self-lubrication materials. The results of tribological tests showed that the POM with MoS2 nano-balls presented better tribological properties than that with micro-MoS2. When the content of MoS2 nano-balls was not more than 1.0 wt%, the POM/MoS2 nano-balls samples presented lower friction coefficients and smaller wear volumes. However, higher contents of MoS2 nano-balls than 1.0 wt% were very disadvantageous to the tribological performances. DSC results showed the excessive MoS2 nano-balls affected the POM crystallinity, and accordingly, the self-lubricating capabilities of these samples were influenced as well. SEM micrographs for wear scars confirmed that the worn manner of the POM sample was changed when the content of MoS2 nano-balls was increased. XPS analysis showed that MoS2 nano-balls was transferred to the mated friction surface, on which Mo(IV) was oxidized into Mo(VI) via tribochemical reaction. TEM micrographs of worn debris proposed a wear manner concerning the exfoliation of nano-sheets from MoS2 nano-balls. The reason for the stable self-lubrication properties of POM/MoS2 nano-balls composite was ascribed to the forming-destroying of debris clusters in a long-time sliding process.  相似文献

In this study, Fe–X at% Si alloy (X=70.5, 80.0 and 96.0), Re–64.3 at% Si and Mo–66.7 at% Si disk specimens were prepared by spark plasma sintering, and their friction and wear properties were investigated when they were slid against Si3N4 ball specimens in ethyl alcohol. The friction and wear properties of Si ingots were also examined. Fe–70.5 at% Si, Fe–80.0 at% Si, Fe–96.0 at% Si and Re–64.3 at% Si disk specimens exhibited friction coefficients as low as 0.15. It is considered that the low friction of the Fe–70.5 at% Si, Fe–80.5 at% Si and Fe–96.0 at% Si disk specimens was due to the formation of low friction silicon alkoxide and polyoxysilane on the worn surfaces of the disk specimens and the paired ball specimens. Re–64.3 at% Si disk specimens exhibited the highest microvickers hardness of all the disk specimens prepared in this study. In addition, the microvickers hardness of the Fe–X at% Si (X=70.5, 80.0, 96.0 and 100) disk specimen increased with increasing the Si content. Moreover, it was difficult to obtain dense Fe–90.0 at% Si disk specimens by sintering the annealed and crushed Fe–90.0 at% Si powder. However, dense Fe–96.0 at% Si disk specimens could be obtained by sintering the Fe–90.0 at% Si powder at 1403 K.  相似文献

The tribological behaviour of TiCN coating prepared by unbalanced magnetron sputtering is studied in this work. The substrates made from austenitic steel were coated by TiCN coatings during one deposition. The measurements were provided by high temperature tribometer (pin-on-disc, CSM Instruments) allowing measuring the dependency of friction coefficient on cycles (sliding distance) up to 500 °C. The evolution of the friction coefficient with the cycles was measured under different conditions, such as temperature or sliding speed and the wear rate of the ball and coating were evaluated. The 100Cr6 balls and the Si3N4 ceramic balls were used as counter-parts. The former were used at temperatures up to 200 °C, the latter up to 500 °C. The wear tracks were examined by optical methods and SEM. The surface oxidation at elevated temperatures and profile elements composition of the wear track were also measured.The experiments have shown considerable dependency of TiCN tribological parameters on temperature. Rise in temperature increased both friction coefficient and the wear rate of the coating in case of 100Cr6 balls. The main wear mechanism was a mild wear at temperatures up to 200 °C; fracture and delamination were dominating wear mechanisms at temperatures from 300 to 500 °C.  相似文献

High-density, sputtered molybdenum disulfide films (MoS2) were investigated as lubricants for the next generation of spacecraft gimbal bearings where low torque signatures and long life are required. Low friction in a vacuum environment, virtually no out-gassing, insensitivity to low temperature, and radiation resistance of these lubricant films are valued in such applications. One hundred and twenty five thousand hours of accumulated bearing lest time were obtained on 24 pairs of flight-quality bearings ion-sputtered with three types of advanced MoS2 films. Life tests were conducted in a vacuum over a simulated duty cycle for a space pay bad gimbal. Optimum retainer and ball material composition were investigated. Comparisons were made with test bearings lubricated with liquid space lubricants.

Self-lubricating PTFE retainers were required for long life, i.e., > 40 million gimbal cycles. Bearings with polyimide retainers, silicon nitride ceramic balls, or steel balls sputtered with MoS2 film suffered early torque failure, irrespective of the type of race-sputtered MoS2 film. Failure generally resulted from excess film or retainer debris deposited in the ball track which tended to jam the bearing. Both grease lubricated and the better MoS2 film lubricated bearings produced long lives, although the torque with liquid lubricants was lower and less irregular.  相似文献

The structure, hardness, friction and wear of tungsten nitrides prepared by d.c. reactive magnetron sputtering were investigated. The coatings were deposited with different nitrogen to argon ratios; the total pressure was kept constant. The tribological tests were performed on a pin-on-disc tribometer in terrestrial atmosphere with 100Cr6 steel, Al2O3 and Si3N4 balls as sliding counter-bodies. The wear tracks, the ball-wear scars and the wear debris were analysed by scanning electron microscopy in order to characterize the dominant wear mechanisms.The coatings exhibited different phases as a function of the nitrogen content: films with low N content exhibited the α-W phase; β-W phase was dominant for nitrogen contents from 12 to 15 at.% and β-W2N was observed for nitrogen content higher that 30 at.%. The mechanical and tribological properties of the tungsten nitride coatings were strongly influenced by the structure. The hardness and the Young's modulus values were in the ranges (29–39 GPa) and (300–390 GPa), respectively; the lowest values correspond to the coatings with the highest nitrogen content. Generally, the friction and wear rate of tungsten nitride coatings sliding against ceramic balls increased with nitrogen content reaching a maximum at 12 at.%; further increase of the nitrogen content led to a decrease of the friction and wear. The sliding with the steel balls did not wear the coatings under the selected testing conditions.  相似文献

In the present work, we report the processing and properties of WC–6 wt.% ZrO2 composites, densified using the pressureless sintering route. The densification of the WC–ZrO2 composites was carried out in the temperature range of 1500–1700 °C with varying time (1–3 h) in vacuum. The experimental results indicate that significantly high hardness of 22–23 GPa and moderate fracture toughness of ∼5 MPa m1/2 can be obtained with 2 mol% Y-stabilized ZrO2 sinter-additive, sintered at 1600 °C for 3 h. Furthermore, the friction and wear behavior of optimized WC–ZrO2 composite is investigated on a fretting mode I wear tester. The tribological results reveal that a moderate coefficient of friction in the range from 0.15 to 0.5 can be achieved with the optimised composite. An important observation is that a transition in friction and wear with load is noted. The dominant mechanisms of material removal appear to be tribochemical wear and spalling of tribolayer.  相似文献

In this paper, the action of the zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate (ZDDP) anti-wear additive has been examined on two different materials (Steel AISI 52100 and a Co/Cr/Mo thermal spray coating) sliding against cast iron in reciprocating mode. Tests have been conducted under lubricated wear conditions at relatively low (20, 50 °C) and elevated (up to 100 °C) bulk oil temperatures. A comparison is made between the friction, wear and chemical nature of the wear film formed under varying temperatures, on two materials, in two lubricants (one free from and one containing ZDDP) and after different test durations. The wear film has been examined by energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).In this work, it has been shown in this work that the friction coefficient is dependent on the temperature, the lubricant and the nature of the contacting surfaces. In the presence of ZDDP, a wear film, comprising Zn, S and P, forms even at the lowest bulk oil temperature of 20 °C. The nature of the film is dependent on the substrate material and the steel and Co/Cr/Mo coating showed contrasting film characteristics. In this paper, the wear and friction results for each couple in oil containing and free from additives is discussed with reference to the nature of the wear film. A correlation has been made between the wear, friction and chemical analysis measurements.  相似文献

In the present paper, friction and wear behaviors of a carbon fiber reinforced carbon–silicon carbide–titanium silicon carbide (C-SiC–Ti3SiC2) hybrid matrix composites fabricated by slurry infiltration and liquid silicon infiltration were studied for potential application as brake materials. The properties were compared with those of C/C-SiC composites. The composites containing Ti3SiC2 had not only higher friction stability coefficient but also much higher wear resistance than C/C-SiC composites. At an initial braking speed of 28 m/s under 0.8 MPa pressure, the weight wear rate of the composites containing 5 vol% Ti3SiC2 was 5.55 mg/cycle, which was only one-third of C/C-SiC composites. Self-lubricious film-like debris was formed on the composites containing Ti3SiC2, leading to the improvement of friction and wear properties. The effect of braking speed and braking pressure on the tribological properties of modified composites were investigated. The average friction coefficient was significantly affected by braking speed and braking pressure, but the wear rate was less affected by braking pressure.  相似文献
