Robust multiuser detection in non-Gaussian channels   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
In many wireless systems where multiuser detection techniques may be applied, the ambient channel noise is known through experimental measurements to be decidedly non-Gaussian, due largely to impulsive phenomena. The performance of many multiuser detectors can degrade substantially in the presence of such impulsive ambient noise. We develop robust multiuser detection techniques for combating multiple-access interference and impulsive noise in CDMA communication systems. These techniques are based on the M-estimation method for robust regression. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed robust techniques offer significant performance gain over linear multiuser detectors in impulsive noise, with little attendant increase in computational complexity. We also develop a subspace-based technique for blind adaptive implementation of the robust multiuser detectors, which requires only the signature waveform and the timing of the desired user in order to demodulate that user's signal. The robust multiuser detection technique and its blind adaptive version can be applied to both synchronous and asynchronous CDMA channels  相似文献

We develop a blind adaptive multiuser detector for synchronous code-division multiple access (CDMA) with a noise-whitening filter. The triangular structure of the noise-whitened model ensures complete resolution of detection ambiguities. To further improve the symbol error probability performance, we introduce decision feedback in our detector similar to the decorrelating derision-feedback detector (DDFD), thus forming the decision-feedback blind adaptive multiuser detector (DFBD). Simulations indicate that the performance of the DFBD is very close to that of the DDFD in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels. In Rician fading channels, the DFBD can track the slowly varying channels well and has a symbol error probability performance approaching that of the DDFD, which requires the knowledge of users' energies. The blind adaptive and decision-feedback blind adaptive multiuser detectors proposed here do not, however, require that knowledge  相似文献

This paper deals with the problem of multiuser detection in direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (CDMA) fading channels with impulsive noise. This issue arises in practical situations because in many realistic wireless channels, the ambient channel noise is impulsive, resulting from various natural and man-made impulsive sources. An M-estimator-based structure for noncoherent demodulation of differentially phase-shift keyed (DPSK) signals transmitted simultaneously via a CDMA flat-fading channel and embedded in impulsive noise, is proposed and analyzed. Analytical and numerical results show that, in highly impulsive noise, the performance gain afforded by the proposed multiuser detector can be substantial when compared to the linear decorrelating detector for DPSK, with little attendant increase in algorithmic complexity.  相似文献

Simple reduced tree-search detection schemes of the breadth-first type are applied to suboptimal joint multiuser detection in bit-synchronous code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems over both Gaussian and two-path Rayleigh-fading channels. It is pointed out that in contrast to the case of the optimal multiuser detector, the choice of the receiver filter severely influences the performance of suboptimal multiuser detectors. Simulation results supported by analysis show that breadth-first tree-search algorithms using a decorrelating noise whitening receiver filter perform better than similar receivers, which solely use a matched filter (MF) for virtually all nonsingular spreading code sets studied. Most of the code sets are randomly generated. The M- and T-algorithm detectors based on decorrelating noise whitening filter (WF) outputs can achieve near optimum performance at a very low complexity compared to the optimal detector, although the proposed detectors are more complex than some known suboptimum detectors. Furthermore, the use of combining techniques is considered for a two-path Rayleigh-fading channel, and a semi-synchronous CDMA structure is proposed. It is shown that if maximum ratio combining (MRC) is employed, the decorrelating noise WF still exists. The corresponding suboptimal combining detector with a decorrelating noise WF outperforms a similar noncombining detector  相似文献

Recently developed subspace techniques for blind adaptive multiuser detection are briefly reviewed first. In particular, blind methods based on signal subspace tracking for adapting linear multiuser detectors in AWGN CDMA channels are considered, as well as extensions of these techniques to frequency selective fading channels, dispersive channels, and antenna array spatial processing. In addition, subspace‐based nonlinear adaptive techniques for robust blind multiuser detection in non‐Gaussian ambient noise channels are also described. Several new techniques are then developed within the subspace framework for blind joint channel estimation and multiuser detection, under some specific channel conditions. These include (1) an adaptive receiver structure for joint multiuser detection and equalization in dispersive CDMA channels, (2) a subspace method for joint multiuser detection and equalization in unknown correlated noise, and (3) a method for joint interference suppression and channel tracking in time‐varying fading channels. The present paper deals with the problem of data detection in direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems with non-Gaussian ambient noise. This issue arises in pratical situations because many physical channels in which multiple-access communications is applied are known to be decidedly non-Gaussian, due largely to impulsive phenomena. (Such channels include urban and indoor radio channels, and underwater acoustic-modem channels). The optimum multiuser detector for the additive noise channel model is derived, and several suboptimal multiuser detectors are proposed. Moreover, for performance comparison purposes the robust multiuser detector, recently proposed in the literature, is also considered.  相似文献

A fuzzy decorrelating detector for CDMA non-Gaussian channels is proposed. The proposed scheme combines a linear decorrelator with a nonlinear preprocessor based on fuzzy logic and rank ordering that is incorporated to combat impulsive noise. Simulation results show that the proposed technique is very robust in combating impulsive noise.  相似文献

Previously developed blind techniques for multiuser detection in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems lead to several near-far resistant adaptive receivers for demodulating a given user's data with the prior knowledge of only the spreading sequence of that user. In the CDMA uplink, however, typically the base station receiver has the knowledge of the spreading sequences of all the users within the cell, but not that of the users from other cells. In this paper, group-blind techniques are developed for multiuser detection in such scenarios. These new techniques make use of the spreading sequences and the estimated multipath channels of all known users to suppress the intracell interference, while blindly suppressing the intercell interference. Several forms of group-blind linear detectors are developed based on different criteria. Moreover, group-blind multiuser detection in the presence of correlated noise is also considered. In this case, two receiving antennas are needed for channel estimation and signal separation. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed group-blind linear multiuser detection techniques offer substantial performance gains over the blind linear multiuser detection methods in a CDMA uplink environment  相似文献

The decorrelating detector and the linear minimum mean-square error (MMSE) detector are known to be effective strategies to counter the presence of multiuser interference in code-division multiple-access channels; in particular, those multiuser detectors provide optimum near-far resistance. When training data sequences are available, the MMSE multiuser detector can be implemented adaptively without knowledge of signature waveforms or received amplitudes. This paper introduces an adaptive multiuser detector which converges (for any initialization) to the MMSE detector without requiring training sequences. This blind multiuser detector requires no more knowledge than does the conventional single-user receiver: the desired user's signature waveform and its timing. A nonlinear group-blind technique is developed for joint detection of some given users' data in a CDMA uplink environment with the presence of unknown interference. This method performs the so-called “slowest-descent search” over a likelihood function of the desired users, starting from the estimate closest to the unconstrained maximizer of the likelihood function, and along mutually orthogonal directions where this likelihood function drops to the slowest. Simulation results show that this new nonlinear technique offers substantial performance improvement over the previously proposed linear group-blind multiuser detectors with little attendant increase in computational complexity. The problem of group-blind multiuser detection in the presence of both unknown interference and impulsive ambient noise is also treated under the framework of slowest-descent search, with the aid of a novel subspace-based robust interference cancellation scheme. It is seen that this robust group-blind method significantly outperforms the robust blind multiuser detection scheme proposed previously  相似文献

We consider the problem of demodulating and decoding multiuser information symbols in an uplink asynchronous coded code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system employing long (aperiodic) spreading sequences, in the presence of unknown multipath channels, out-cell multiple-access interference (OMAI), and narrow-band interference (NBI). A blind turbo multiuser receiver, consisting of a novel blind Bayesian multiuser detector and a bank of MAP decoders, is developed for such a system. The effect of OMAI and NBI is modeled as colored Gaussian noise with some unknown covariance matrix. The main contribution of this paper is to develop blind Bayesian multiuser detectors for long-code multipath CDMA systems under both white and colored Gaussian noise. Such detectors are based on the Bayesian inference of all unknown quantities. The Gibbs sampler, a Markov chain Monte Carlo procedure, is then used to calculate the Bayesian estimates of the unknowns. The blind Bayesian multiuser detector computes the a posteriori probabilities of the channel coded symbols, which are differentially encoded before being sent to the channel. Being soft-input soft-output in nature, the proposed blind Bayesian multiuser detectors and the MAP decoders can iteratively exchange the extrinsic information to successively refine the performance, leading to the so-called blind turbo multiuser receiver  相似文献

针对加性高斯白噪声信道下的多用户非正交多脉冲调制系统,提出了基于QR分解的非相干判决反馈多用户检测器。该检测器通过QR分解矩阵变换,利用功率较强用户的判决信息来进行干扰抵消,可以有效消除用户间的多址干扰。而在各用户内,针对多脉冲调制技术,提出了一种线性解相关运算来进行非相干检测。同时,考虑解相关运算中矩阵求逆的复杂度比较高,进一步提出了一种软干扰抵消检测器。仿真结果表明所提的两种多用户检测算法可以有效消除非正交调制所造成的多址干扰,极大地提高功率较弱用户的性能,并且所提软干扰抵消检测器通过避免矩阵求逆降低了计算复杂度,同时检测性能没有损失。   相似文献

Non-Gaussian noise is one of the most common noise models observed in wireless channels. This type of noise has severe impact on wireless systems with multiuser detection devices. In this paper, the issue of multiuser detection in non-Gaussian noise multipath channel is addressed. We also pay a close attention to the neural network applications, and propose a new robust neural network detector for multipath impulsive channels. The maximal ratio combining (MRC) technique is adopted to combine the multipath signals. Moreover, we discuss the performance of the proposed multiuser neural network decorrelating detector (NNDD), under class A Middleton model. Furthermore, the performance of the system under power imbalance scenario is shown. We show that the proposed NNDD has magnificent effect on the system performance. The system performance is measured through the bit error rate (BER). It is shown that the proposed robust receiver reduces the impact of the impulsive noise by processing the received signal and clipping the extreme amplitudes.  相似文献

The noncoherent demodulation of differentially phase-shift keyed signals transmitted simultaneously via a synchronous code-division multiple-access (CDMA) channel is studied under the assumption of white Gaussian background noise. A class of noncoherent linear detectors is defined with the objective of obtaining the optimal one. The performance criterion considered is near-far resistance that denotes worst-case multiuser asymptotic efficiency over near-far environments. It is shown that the optimal linear detector is a noncoherent decorrelating detector. The commonality between the properties of the decorrelating detectors for coherent and noncoherent channels is established. In particular, it is shown that no other differential phase-shift keying (DPSK), multiuser detector achieves a higher near-far resistance than does the noncoherent decorrelator  相似文献

Nonparametric multiuser detection in non-Gaussian channels   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Existing multiuser detection techniques in wireless systems are based on the assumption that some information on the parameters of the probability density function (pdf) of ambient noise is available. Such information may not be available in all cases, particularly for non-Gaussian and impulsive noises, or may change depending on circumstances. In this paper, we present a technique for multiuser detection that does not require any a priori knowledge about the noise parameters. This method is based on using pseudo norms for linear nonparametric regression. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed method offers an improved, or at least comparable, performance over existing robust techniques in the absence of any information on the nature of noise in the environment. The increased computational complexity is marginal compared to existing parametric detectors. In addition, the proposed nonparametric detector is portable in the sense that it does not need to be tuned for different noise models without any considerable degradation of performance. We also show that in non-Gaussian noise, the performance of blind adaptive nonparametric multiuser detectors is better than that of robust multiuser detectors.  相似文献

Blind signal detection in multiuser code division multiple access (CDMA) system is particularly attractive when only the desired user signature is known to a given receiver. A problem common to several existing blind multiuser CDMA detectors is that the detection performance is very sensitive to the signature waveform mismatch (SWM) which may be caused by channel distortion. In this paper, we consider the design of a blind multiuser CDMA detector that is robust to the SWM. We present a convex formulation for this problem by using the second-order cone (SOC) programming. The resulting SOC problem can be solved efficiently using the recently developed interior point methods. Computer simulations indicate that the performance of our new robust blind multiuser detector is superior to those of many existing methods.  相似文献

This paper investigates the application of linear reinforcement learning stochastic approximation to the blind adaptive energy estimation for a decorrelating decision-feedback (DDF) multiuser detector over synchronous code-division multiple-access (CDMA) radio channels in the presence of multiple-access interference (MAI) and additive Gaussian noise. The decision-feedback incorporated into the structure of a linear decorrelating detector is able to significantly improve the weaker users' performance by cancelling the MAI from the stronger users. However, the DDF receiver requires the knowledge of the received energies. In this paper, a new novel blind estimation mechanism is proposed to estimate all the users' energies using a stochastic approximation algorithm without training data. In order to increase the convergence speed of the energy estimation, a linear reinforcement learning technique is conducted to accelerate the stochastic approximation algorithms. Results show that our blind adaptation mechanism is able to accurately estimate all the users' energies even if the users of the DDF detector are not ranked properly. After performing the blind energy estimation and then reordering the users in a nonincreasing order, numerical simulations show that the DDF detector for the weakest user performs closely to the maximum likelihood detector, whose complexity grows exponentially with the number of users  相似文献

We have proposed a new M-estimator based structure for noncoherent demodulation of differentially phase-shift keyed (DPSK) signals transmitted simultaneously via direct sequence code division multiple access (CDMA) flat-fading channel and embedded in impulsive noise. The approach is also corroborated with simulation results to show the efficacy of the proposed detector with the proposed M-estimator in synchronous flat-fading non-Gaussian channels. The gross error sensitivity for the proposed estimator is analyzed. Further, lower bounds for the explosion and implosion breakdown points of the proposed estimator are derived.  相似文献
