Clustering algorithms optimization can minimize topology maintenance overhead in large scale vehicular Ad hoc networks (VANETs) for smart transportation that results from dynamic topology, limited resources and non-centralized architecture. The performance of a clustering algorithm varies with the underlying mobility model to address the topology maintenance overhead issue in VANETs for smart transportation. To design a robust clustering algorithm, careful attention must be paid to components like mobility models and performance objectives. A clustering algorithm may not perform well with every mobility pattern. Therefore, we propose a supervisory protocol (SP) that observes the mobility pattern of vehicles and identifies the realistic Mobility model through microscopic features. An analytical model can be used to determine an efficient clustering algorithm for a specific mobility model (MM). SP selects the best clustering scheme according to the mobility model and guarantees a consistent performance throughout VANET operations. The simulation has performed in three parts that is the central part simulation for setting up the clustering environment, In the second part the clustering algorithms are tested for efficiency in a constrained atmosphere for some time and the third part represents the proposed scheme. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms clustering algorithms such as honey bee algorithm-based clustering and memetic clustering in terms of cluster count, re-affiliation rate, control overhead and cluster lifetime.  相似文献

The diverse roles of deployable underwater assets have increased the need for ad hoc networking capability. This capability is defined as the ability to form acoustic communication links by deploying assets in a non-deterministic manner, without depending on a priori route and positioning information. Each asset represents a node in the network, and can act as a data source, sink or router, and initiates, stores or relays data, respectively. Data packets may be hopped over a few nodes before arriving at the designated destination. This ad hoc network consists of two main layers: the medium access control (MAC) layer to resolve node contention, and the ad hoc routing layer to manage routing information. In the MAC layer, both random access and timedivision protocols are applied. The protocol in the routing layer is responsible for route setup and route maintenance. This concept of multiple-hop, ad hoc networking was implemented during sea trials conducted in Portland Harbour, UK, involving up to six nodes. The trial was designed with the aim of gaining application experience in ad hoc network deployment and in assessing the performance of the protocols in a real operating environment. The emphasis was on modem integration, and the stability and reliability of packet transport. The trial results and their subsequent analysis demonstrated the robustness of the network in performing ad hoc routing and resolving node contention in a realistic and acoustically challenging environment.  相似文献

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET), which are created by vehicles equipped with short- and mediumrange wireless communication, have an array of important applications in intelligent transport systems. Many of these applications require reliable, bandwidth-efficient dissemination of traffic and road information via ad hoc network technology. This is a difficult task since inter-vehicular networks often lack continuous end-to-end connectivity and are characterised by large variations in node density. A new epidemic algorithm for information dissemination in highly dynamic and intermittently connected VANET is introduced. It is shown through realistic simulations in highway traffic that the proposed algorithm is capable of reliable and efficient information dissemination in VANET in the face of frequent network fragmentation and large density variations.  相似文献

The conventional layered protocols in ad hoc networks tend to suffer from the inability to distinguish between losses due to route failures and congestion because of the inflexible structure. Recently, in efforts to overcome the challenges of dynamic environment, there have been increased interests in protocols that rely on interactions between different layers. The authors propose a cross-layer multicasting scheme based on the concept of local backtracking groups and adequate buffer equipped within nodes to avoid undesired retransmission from the source and further to improve the efficiency of source-to-receivers delivery with the aid of buffer. While encountering route failure, a node can quickly restore its routing paths to multicast subscribers by exploiting the precise notification from the MAC layer and the parent group then opportunely provides it with an unacknowledged packets conserved in the buffer. It is obviously benefic that retransmission packets are issued from the parent group rather than from the source. The authors present both analytic models and simulation results that substantiate the efficiency and robust of our approach based on realistic mobility scenarios.  相似文献

It is widely believed that IEEE 802.11 standard is aimed mainly for fixed indoor wireless local area networks and is not suited for mobile applications, even though the IEEE 802.11b systems may work in either infrastructure mode or ad hoc mode. The impact of node mobility on ad hoc network performance has already been studied intensively, but these studies mostly do not consider temporal fluctuations of the mobile wireless channel due to the Doppler shift. An investigation of the mobility impact on the performance of IEEE 802.11b ad hoc systems with Rician/Rayleigh fading under different node velocities is presented. A comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the impacts of a multitude of different signal distortions on an IEEE 802.11b system performance is also presented. Specifically, the authors study the bit-error rate performances with respect to node velocities for different modulation schemes. The simulation results show that, owing to its extremely low implementation and deployment cost, the current IEEE 802.11b standard has its potential to be deployed in a mobile ad hoc environment if the line-of-sight path between transmitter and receiver exists.  相似文献

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a wireless, dynamic, infrastructure-less, self-organized, multi-hop, and decentralized network. Each node in MANET can act as a router as well as a work station. Many routing protocols have been developed to increase the efficiency of MANET. The primary objective of this paper is a detailed QoS comparison of reactive (AODV), proactive (DSDV), and hybrid (ZRP) routing protocols of MANET in order to find which routing protocol works best in a particular network scenario. The analysis was made for TCP-based traffic patterns. The performance differentials were analyzed on the basis of normalized routing overhead, packet loss, packet delivery ratio, control packets, end-to-end delay, packet received, and packet sent with a variation of nodes density and mobility. Access to information services while on the move is becoming increasingly prevalent within transport systems. Whereas Internet access is now common place in trains, it still remains a challenge for vehicles, particularly when travelling through high speed motorways. Motorway vehicles equipped with wireless communication nodes form an ad hoc network have been examined by which data can be exchanged among them without the need for a pre-installed infrastructure. The main challenge with such an infrastructure-less network is developing communications and protocols that can deliver robust and reliable ad hoc communications between vehicles, when the relative speed between vehicles that can be extremely high under opposite traffic conditions. To address this opposite direction effect, a solution has been presented by minimising the effect of opposite traffic on routing packets. Firstly, a router direction index is introduced to enhance the performance of ad hoc on demand distance vector protocol in updating its routing table and secondly, a new queue priority mechanism is proposed which is based on cross-layer collaboration. Simulations were performed for an ad hoc network consisting of 200 vehicles driving with speeds between 90 and 120 km/h on a two-way motorway for different traffic loads sent through a Gateway adjacent to the motorway. The results obtained demonstrate a performance increase in the average data goodput and less routing overhead for the proposed solution  相似文献

As usual, these comprise a range of ITS applications. There are two papers on Vehicular Adhoc Networks (VANETs) which seems to be an increasingly `hot? topic. Maziar Nekovee presents a new algorithm for reliable and efficient information dissemination and Rohan Goonewardene and colleagues propose a new robust adaptive clustering scheme. Then there is a paper from my colleague Nicholas Taylor of TRL on the traffic and congestion effects of moving abnormal loads on the road network. Next, Michael Schneider and colleagues discuss the suitability of toll collection data as a source of traveller information on main roads in Austria. The following paper from Xiao-Yun Lu and Samer Madanat from Berkeley shows how environmental factors can and should be taken into account in recommending a following distance or warning of a too close approach. Finally, Jun Ho and colleagues from Imperial complete this section with a paper on spatial econometric models to enhance route guidance systems by congestion prediction.  相似文献

Previous work has shown that TCP (transmission control protocol) Vegas outperforms the more widely deployed TCP Reno in both wired and wireless networks. It was also shown that when both TCP variants coexist on the same wired links, Reno dominates because of its more aggressive behaviour. This paper examines for the first time the compatibility between Reno and Vegas in wireless IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks. It is shown that Vegas generally dominates in the heterogeneous Reno/Vegas network scenario; a startling result that is inconsistent with what is seen in wired networks. It is shown that the wireless ad hoc network environment does not reward the aggressive behaviour of Reno. On the other hand, Vegas, with its more accurate yet more conservative mechanisms, is able to capture most of the bandwidth. This is found to be true when using the on-demand routing protocols of dynamic source routing (DSR) or ad hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV): the failure of a node to reach a next-hop node because of media access control (MAC)-sublayer repeated collisions is reported to the routing protocol, which then declares a route error that impacts Reno in a more serious way than Vegas. When the table-driven routing protocol destination-sequenced distance vector (DSDV) is used, Reno and Vegas share the network bandwidth in a fairer manner. Generally, fairness in this environment can be improved by reducing the TCP maximum window size.  相似文献

Efficient mobility metrics are necessary for mobile ad hoc networks to measure the impact of node mobility on performance. Normally, measuring mobility requires the use of complex localisation systems. A new mobility metric for performance measurements, the intra-vicinity dependency, is proposed. Its main novelty is that it can fully capture the relative motions between a node and its vicinity in a 2D plane, in real-time, using simple triangulation. Variants of this metric are proposed for predicting the performance of networks that follow group and random mobility models (e.g. inter-group inter-meeting times and packet delivery rate). To make the proposed mobility metrics more robust in noisy environments, a calibration method is also proposed for improving accuracy. Experimental results show that, without the help of any localisation systems, the proposed metrics enable a more accurate approximation of the average relative speed between mobile nodes/groups than existing methods. It is also shown that the proposed metrics yield excellent performance when they are used to predict the inter-group inter-meeting times for networks that follow the Rereence point group mobility model and to estimate the packet delivery rate for those that follow the Random Way Point model.  相似文献

The fact that ad hoc networks are required to support mobility of individual network nodes results in problems arising when routing data. These problems include route loss, poor longevity of established routes and asymmetric communications links. Mobility of nodes also increases the control traffic overhead and affects the performance of the protocol. Mobility can, however, be exploited to improve route longevity when establishing the route. In some situations, the source of information is not available (e.g. GPS information in the underground), hence protocols relying on this information will fail to operate correctly. In such situations, alternative `self-content' information should be available to perform the needed task of routing. Three novel schemes that make use of such information, the heading direction angle, to provide a mechanism for establishing and maintaining robust and long-lived routes are presented. The results show that these schemes reduce the overhead and increase the route longevity when compared with the AODV protocol. The schemes described can operate as a standalone mechanism or can be adopted by other routing protocols in order to improve their performance.  相似文献

This paper investigates the effect of the intensification of Police enforcement on the number of road accidents at national and regional level in Greece, focusing on one of the most important road safety violations: drinking-and-driving. Multilevel negative binomial models are developed to describe the effect of the intensification of alcohol enforcement on the reduction of road accidents in different regions of Greece. Moreover, two approaches are explored as far as regional clustering is concerned: the first one concerns an ad hoc geographical clustering and the second one is based on the results of mathematical cluster analysis through demographic, transport and road safety characteristics. Results indicate that there are significant spatial dependences among road accidents and enforcement. Additionally, it is shown that these dependences are more efficiently interpreted when regions are determined on the basis of qualitative similarities than on the basis of geographical adjacency.  相似文献

Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is an emerging trend where vehicles communicate with each other and possibly with a roadside unit to assist various applications like monitoring, managing and optimizing the transportation system. Collaboration among vehicles is significant in VANET. Resource constraint is one of the great challenges of VANETs. Because of the absence of centralized management, there is pitfall in optimal resource allocation, which leads to ineffective routing. Effective reliable routing is quite essential to achieve intelligent transportation. Stochastic dynamic programming is currently employed as a tool to analyse, develop and solve network resource constraint and allocation issues of resources in VANET. We have considered this work as a geographical-angular-zone-based two-phase dynamic resource allocation problem with a homogeneous resource class. This work uses a stochastic dynamic programming algorithm based on relaxed approximation to generate optimal resource allocation strategies over time in response to past task completion status history. The second phase resource allocation uses the observed outcome of the first phase task completion to provide optimal viability in resulting decisions. The proposed work will be further extended for the scenario that deals with heterogeneous resource class. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme works significantly well for the problems with identical resources.  相似文献

Utilising the battery life and the limited bandwidth available in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) in the most efficient manner is an important issue, along with providing security at the network layer. The authors propose, design and describe E2-SCAN, an energy-efficient network layered security solution for MANETs, which protects both routing and packet forwarding functionalities in the context of the on demand distance vector protocol. E2-SCAN is an advanced approach that builds on and improves upon some of the state-of-the-art results available in the literature. The proposed E2-SCAN algorithm protects the routing and data forwarding operations through the same reactive approach, as is provided by the SCAN algorithm. It also enhances the security of the network by detecting and reacting to the malicious nodes. In E2-SCAN, the immediate one-hop neighbour nodes collaboratively monitor. E2-SCAN adopts a modified novel credit strategy to decrease its overhead as the time evolves. Through both analysis and simulation results, the authors demonstrate the effectiveness of E2-SCAN over SCAN in a hostile environment.  相似文献

Integrated cellular networks (ICNs) are normally constructed by adding ad hoc overlay on cellular networks to solve the latter's flexibility and capacity expansion problems. In such networks, routing plays a critical role in finding a route to divert congested traffic from a congested cell to another less crowded cell. Much work has been conducted on routing protocols in ICNs, whereas no dedicated work has been found for an important aspect of routing, namely source selection. The process of a source selection can be an algorithm that is designed for selecting a proper pseudo- source to release its occupying channel to a blocked mobile user. Consequently, this pseudo-source diverts its ongoing call to another cell by using a free channel in a neighbour cell via a relaying route. Based on an introduction of a representative ICN infrastructure, three source selection algorithms are proposed. Both numerical analysis and evaluation results are presented, which show the efficiency of the algorithms and their different abilities in adapting to different network situations, such as traffic density and cell capacity.  相似文献

移动自组网是一种由一系列可以自由移动的节点主机聚集而成的一个临时性动态网络。它没有固定基站,也没有作为控制管理中心的节点主机,由于其拓扑的动态性,其路由协议与其他传统网络有很大的区别。为了能更有效地移动自组网中实现数据的传送,本文提出了一种基于移动预测下的MANET路由协议,该协议综合考虑了传输路径的延时和稳定性,选择在延时限制下平均拥有最稳特性的传输路径,模拟结果表明,这种方法比基于移动预测量稳路径路由协议的传输时延要短,传送成功概率要高,而控制开销却相关不大。  相似文献

Reliability is one of the most important performance measures for emerging technologies. For these systems, shortcomings are often overlooked in early releases as the cutting edge technology overshadows a fragile design. Currently, the proliferation of the mobile ad hoc wireless networks (MAWN) is moving from cutting edge to commodity and thus, reliable performance will be expected. Generally, ad hoc networking is applied for the flexibility and mobility it provides. As a result, military and first responders employ this network scheme and the reliability of the network becomes paramount. To ensure reliability is achieved, one must first be able to analyze and calculate the reliability of the MAWN. This work describes the unique attributes of the MAWN and how the classical analysis of network reliability, where the network configuration is known a priori, can be adjusted to model and analyze this type of network. The methods developed acknowledge the dynamic and scalable nature of the MAWN along with its absence of infrastructure. Thus, the methods rely on a modeling approach that considers the probabilistic formation of different network configurations in a MAWN. Hence, this paper proposes reliability analysis methods that consider the effect of node mobility and the continuous changes in the network's connectivity.  相似文献

Routing in ad hoc wireless networks does not simply consist in finding a route with shortest length (as in wired networks with virtually error-free communication links), but it requires the creation of a stable and good quality communication route to avoid any unnecessary packet loss. In this paper,we discuss physical layer-oriented routing in ad hoc wireless networks, and we analyse the potential advantages of combining the use of power control (PC) with the chosen routing strategy. More precisely, we propose a modified ad hoc on-demand distance vector (MAODV) routing protocol, with and without PC, derived from the AODV-routing protocol by considering the bit error rate at the end of a multi-hop path as the metric to be minimised for route selection. In other words, we consider routing with a physical layer-oriented quality of service criterion, and we analyse the system performance in scenarios with either strong line-of-sight (LOS) or shadowed communications. Although in a scenario with strong LOS communications there are a few cases where the MAODV-PC protocol offers the best performance, in the presence of shadowed communications the proposed physical layer-oriented strategy is not attractive.  相似文献

Abstract

Planar structures exist widely in the images of various scenes, and the detection of planar regions is important in many applications related to computer vision, such as image mosaic and three-dimensional reconstruction. In this paper, a robust detection method for multi-planar regions is proposed. After the feature point pairs are extracted, their preference vectors are generated in similar conceptual space. By introducing the shared nearest neighbour in clustering procedure, the feature point pairs with smaller Jaccard distance and more shared nearest neighbours simultaneously are clustered into the same planar region. Because the relationship between the feature point pairs is considered, the accuracy of the inlier probability is high. Our method can detect multi-planar regions correctly without pre-determining the number of regions, and the corresponding clustered feature point pairs can be easily utilised for image mosaic. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

由于有线网络的QoS选路算法不能直接用于自组网,基于预测机制,提出了一个时间约束的最小代价分布QoS路由协议.研究了模糊控制技术的使用,对每种度量,定义了相应的模糊隶属度函数用于预测一个更稳定的链路,实现了一个模糊推理规则库以产生每种链路的模糊代价.通过仿真,比较了基于最短路的QoS和基于洪泛机制的稳定路由QOS,结果表明,基于预测机制的QOS选路的平均呼叫有高的接收率.  相似文献
