Cylindrical stand-alone tubes of plasma-sprayed alumina were tested in uniaxial compression at room temperature, using strain gages to monitor axial strains. The effect of lamella size on the mechanical response was investigated by employing different starting powders to fabricate samples. The average powder sizes investigated included 9 m, 19 m and 32 m alumina; the resulting effective lamella diameters were 10 m, 28 m, and 55 m, respectively. Similar stress-strain hysteresis was observed on unloading in all tubes, independent of lamella size. A strong correlation between the failure stress and the cumulative strain at failure was also observed for tubes fabricated from the three powders. For samples with approximately constant densities, tubes plasma sprayed with the 9 m powder exhibited greater moduli than tubes sprayed from either 19 or 32 m powders. This difference was attributed to the greater percentage of unmelted -Al2O3 in the coating.  相似文献

Thixomolded magnesium alloy AM60 plates joined by friction-stir welding were observed to be as strong or stronger than the unwelded base material. The thixotropic microstructures of the as-molded plates consisted of either 3% or 18% primary solid fraction of -Mg globules (45 m average size) in a eutectic mixture consisting of -Mg grains (10 m) surrounded by Mg17Al12 intermetallic grains in the -Mg grain boundaries (having an average size of 1–2 m). This complex, composite microstructure became a homogeneous (Mg + 6% Al)), recrystallized, equiaxed grain (10–15 m) microstructure in the weld zone.  相似文献

A comprehensive analytical theory is presented for non-hysteretic RF SQUIDs operating in the adiabatic mode in the presence of large thermal fluctuations. When 1 ( = 2LIc/0 is the hysteresis parameter, L is the SQUID inductance, Ic is the critical current of the Josephson junction, and 0 is the flux quantum) the theory is applicable also for RF SQUIDs operating in the non-adiabatic mode. In contrast to previous theories in which the noise is treated perturbatively and which therefore are applicable only if the product 1 ( = 2kBT/ 0 Ic is the noise parameter, kB is the Boltzmann constant, and T is the absolute temperature)—the case of small thermal fluctuations—the present theory is valid for around unity or higher. In the limit 0 the theory reproduces the results of small thermal fluctuations theories. It has been found that in the presence of large thermal fluctuations the screening current in the SQUID inductance is suppressed by a factor that increases with increasing . Taking into account this new basic fact, all SQUID characteristics (output signal, transfer function, noise spectral density and energy sensitivity) have been recalculated and a good agreement with experimental data has been obtained. It has been also found that RF SQUIDs can be operated with substantially higher values of the inductance and of the noise parameter than DC SQUIDs. These two aspects, which are of particular importance at liquid nitrogen temperature, make high Tc RF SQUIDs very attractive.  相似文献

Summary The hypersonic small-disturbance theory is reexamined in this study. A systematic and rigorous approach is proposed to obtain the nonlinear asymptotic equation from the Taylor-Maccoll equation for hypersonic flow past a circular cone. Using this approach, consideration is made of a general asymptotic expansion of the unified supersonic-hypersonic similarity parameter together with the stretched coordinate. Moreover, the successive approximate solutions of the nonlinear hypersonic smalldisturbance equation are solved by iteration. Both of these approximations provide a closed-form solution, which is suitable for the analysis of various related flow problems. Besides the velocity components, the shock location and other thermodynamic properties are presented. Comparisons are also made of the zeroth-order with first-order approximations for shock location and pressure coefficient on the cone surface, respectively. The latter (including the nonlinear effects) demonstrates better correlation with exact solution than the zeroth-order approximation. Our previous theory yielded for the Zeeman splitting of the imaginaryJ=1 collective mode in3He-B the result =2+0.25J z ( is the effective Larmor frequency). In this paper we take into account the downward shift of the pair-breaking edge from 2 to 22– (2 and 1 are the longitudinal and transverse gap parameters). This leads to a complex Landé factor: the frequencies of theJ z =±1 components become =2+0.39J z , and the linewidths of these resonances become finite: =0.18. The coupling amplitudes of theJ z =±1 components to density are found to be proportional to gap distortion, (12/(/)2. Our results for the ultrasonic attenuation due to theJ z =±1,J=1 modes are capable of explaining the field dependence of the attenuation close to the pair-breaking edge as observed by Dobbs, Saunders, et al. The observed peak is caused by theJ z =–1 component: its height increases due to gap distortion as the field is increased, and the peak shifts downward in temperature and its width increases with the field due to the complex Landé factor. TheJ z =+1 component gives rise to a corresponding dip relative to the continuum attenuation.  相似文献

We present data on the copper isotope effect (63Cu-65Cu), Cu =-nTc/nmCu, for two isotopic pairs of oxygen-deficient YBa2Cu3O7–, where varies between 0.06 and 0.52. Cu is below 0.01 at =0.06 (fully oxygenated), it takes values between –0.14 and –0.34 in the 60 K plateau. Larger negative values of Cu are observed away from the plateau. The dependence of Cu is similar to that of the pressure effect dnTc/dP.  相似文献

The agglomeration process that occurs during annealing of thin Fe films (<200 nm) on Si substrates has been studied. Agglomeration occurred on uncapped films prior to silicide formation. Capping layers of SiO2, or more appropriately Si-SiO2, have been used to minimize agglomeration effects. Continuous thin films of -FeSi2 have been grown on 11 1 and 100 oriented substrates. Preferred growth of (202) and (220) suicide planes on 111 Si has been obtained, while preferential growth was not observed on 100 Si.  相似文献

We consider the specific problem of the influence of an inhomogeneous distribution of defects in solids on positron annihilation characteristics. In detail, we investigate the effect of micro-structure, i.e. dislocations, vacancies, vacancy clusters, grain and subgrain boundaries, pores or inner surfaces, on positron lifetime spectroscopy. Only few materials show such small grain sizes that positron annihilation is affected. One example are powder compacts, made out of small and fine-grained powder, during different stages of the sintering process. All samples generically show positron trapping at grain boundaries (GB300 ps) and at surfaces (surf=500–600 ps). GB=300 ps corresponds to small voids consisting of roughly eight vacancies. Different defects can lead to similar annihilation parameters. Hence, we compare the lifetime data obtained from porous and fine-grained samples to the kinetics of defect annealing after irradiation and plastic deformation, e.g. the thermal stability of dislocations or vacancy clusters. We conclude that GB300 ps is apparently not related to vacancy clusters in the matrix, but is due to positron trapping at large-angle grain boundaries. This large open volume is in contrast to common grain boundary models. The change of porosity and grain size with temperature, i.e. during sintering, has been determined in a correlated study by metallography and X-ray line-profile analysis. The effective powder particle size ranges from 0.5 to 15 m, while the grain sizes are always smaller. The only detectable lattice defects in all samples above recrystallization temperature are grain boundaries, besides a surface component in very fine powders.  相似文献

Ductile L20-type wires and+L12-type duplex wires with high strengths and large elongation in the Ni-Al-Fe and Ni-Al-Co ternary systems have been manufactured directly from the liquid state by an in-rotating-water spinning method. The wire diameter was in the range 80 to 180m and the average grain size was 2 to 4m for the wires and 0.2 to 1.0m for the+ wires. y, f and p of the wires were found to be about 360 to 760 MPa, 560 to 960 MPa, and 0.2 to 5.5%, respectively, for the Ni-Al-Fe system, those of the+ wires were about 395 to 660 MPa, 670 to 1285 MPa, and 3.5 to 17%, respectively, for the Ni-Al-Fe system, and about 260 to 365 MPa, 600 to 870 MPa, and 4.0 to 7.0%, respectively, for the Ni-Al-Co system. Cold-drawing caused a significant increase in y and f and the values attained were about 1850 and 2500 MPa, respectively, for Ni-20Al-30Fe and Ni-25Al-30Co wires drawn to about 90% reduction in area. The high strengths, large elongation and good cold-workability of the melt-quenched and+ compound wires have been inferred to be due to the structural change into a low-degree ordered state containing a high density of phase boundaries, suppression of grain-boundary segregation and refinement of grain size.  相似文献

The absorption spectrum of ZnO precipitates in ZnSe saturated with oxygen is studied in the spectral range 500–2000 cm–1 and is shown to correlate with the transmission spectrum of single-crystal ZnO. Saturation of ZnSe with oxygen in the course of growth leads to ZnO precipitation during cooling. The precipitates give rise to narrow absorption bands in the range 5.8–7.1 m, which correlate with the components of the multiphonon absorption spectrum of ZnO, formed by combinations of LO and TO phonons. The 2LO mode defines the long-wavelength transmission edge of ZnO. In addition, the spectrum shows strong absorptions due to the LO + TO(10.2 m) and 2TO (11.3 and 12.7 m) modes. The possible role of SeO2 is discussed. It is suggested that ZnO with a high carrier concentration may act as a gray filter in the spectral range 2–9 m.  相似文献

Summary The similarity solutions for free convection on a vertical plate when the (non-dimensional) plate temperature is x and when the (non-dimensional) surface heat flux is –x are considered. Solutions valid for 1 and 1 are obtained. Further, for the first problem it is shown that there is a value 0, dependent on the Prandtl number, such that solutions of the similarity equations are possible only for >0, and for the second problem that solutions are possible only for >–1 (for all Prandtl numbers). In both cases the solutions becomes singular as 0 and as –1, and the natures of these singularities are discussed.  相似文献

Two casts of type 316L(N) austenitic stainless steel have been solution treated for 1 h at 1070 C, air-cooled, then aged for up to 20 000 h at temperatures between 550 C and 750 C. Grain boundary precipitation of the M23C6 phase occurs, and the Cr composition profile normal to the grain boundaries has been determined at high resolution by an analytical electron microscope. The data have been fitted firstly to collector plate models, which indicated that some of the material was in the process of desensitization, or healing, indicated by a rise in the boundary Cr content. The data were then fitted to a model of the Cr profile as a function of ageing treatment in the healing regime, and a good correlation was obtained.  相似文献

A metastable -Pu (bcc) solid solution has been retained to room temperature by rapid quenching of Pu-rich Pu-Ti alloys from the liquid state. Until now, -Pu solid solutions were limited to high temperatures and had not been successfully quenched to room temperature without transformation. The apparatus used to quench the specimens was a modified gun-type splat-cooling unit, capable of producing extremely high cooling rates of from 106 to 108 ° C sec–1. -Pu(Ti) was retained in the composition region from 20 to more than 45 at.% Ti, and extrapolation of the lattice parameter/composition curve yielded a value of a 0 = 3.530 Å for -Pu at 20° C. This modification differs from the -Pu modification derived by extrapolating from high temperature to 20° C by a small valence increase of 0.1. Metastable -Pu (Ti) (fcc) solid solutions were also quenched-in with alloys containing lesser amounts of Ti, and evidence was found to indicate that the was probably a product of -Pu(Ti) solid-state decomposition.  相似文献

Measurements have been made at room temperature of the strength and fracture toughness of a complex nickel silicide containing particles of a ductile phase. The matrix was either a single-phase L12 distorted Ni3Si (2) or a two-phase Ni3Si (1) and Ni31Si12 () mixture. The particles were a solid solution of Ni(Si) encased within a rim of 1; they contained a dispersion of 1 precipitates. The principal variable was the particle size, and this had little effect on the properties. The results show that the compressive yield strength ( 1200 MPa), the compressive ductility (2–10%) and the fracture toughness (17 ± 3 MPa m1/2) are relatively high. The toughness and ductility are attributed to the plastic deformation and ductile fracture of the crack-stopping Ni(Si) particles.  相似文献

Summary The validity of an approximation 0 of one of the solutions of a set of two linear coupled dispersive wave equations has been discussed. 0 is the solution of a linear Korteweg-de Vries equation and satisfies the same initial condition as . It is shown that for square integrable solutions having a spectral range not exceeding [–, ] the approximation is useful if 5 2t«1 in the sense that –0(t)« (t)(L 2 -norm). is a measure for the dispersion. The crystal structure of film samples of "high-level" (based on 238Pu) and low-level (based on 239Pu) metallic plutonium during their prolonged (up to 343 days) storage (self-irradiation) at room temperature was studied by X-ray diffraction. In the samples of high-level plutonium, the -Pu and -Pu lattices coexist. In the period of 40-60 days, the other known crystal modifications of plutonium (-Pu, -Pu, -Pu, and -Pu) are also present. Low-level plutonium had only the -Pu lattice. A possible origin of this phenomenon is discussed.  相似文献

The formation of intermetallic compounds consisting of nickel-rich B2-type NiAl (-phase) ductilized by two-phase A1 ()/L12 () regions provides the possibility of combining ductility and high-temperature performance. Similar microstructures can also form the basis of high-temperature shape memory alloys, due to martensitic transformation of the -phase to an L10-type product. One route by which –/ microstructures can be produced involves the use of chromium as a -stabilizer. However, microstructural development in such a case is complicated by the formation of -Cr precipitates.This paper examines microstructural development and stability in cast Ni-25 at % Al-14 at % Cr, Ni-29 at % Al-22 at % Cr and Ni-27 at % Al-8 at % Cr alloys, together with a more complex material, namely, Ni-20 at % Al-13 at % Co-9 at % Cr-4 at % Ti-1 at % Mo-1 at % V. Both the as-cast condition and samples aged at 850 and 1100 °C for 140 h are examined using transmission electron microscopy. The paper discusses the formation of L10 martensite, intradendritic ', interdendritic /' and -Cr precipitation.  相似文献

The compositions of high magnesium content -magnesium sialon crystals within the 3M/4X plane of the Mg-Si-Al-O-N system indicate some form of metal atom ordering wihtin the structure. Although it is not possible using X-ray diffraction to detect weak additional reflections arising from the ordering between magnesium, aluminium, and silicon atoms, such weak reflections are revealed on electron diffraction photographs for a phase, resulting in a tripling of the hexagonal latticec-dimension. These show to have a structure very similar to rhombohedral willemite (Zn2SiO4), with the (Mg, Al) metal atoms ordered with respect to the silicon atoms in a 21 ratio. However, there are some additional weak diffraction spots with indices not obeying the rhombohedral condition of –h+k+l=3n. It is proposed that the structure of this is identical to that of willemite and the extra spots are a result of some form of twinning, which implies the existence of ordered microdomains.  相似文献
