Hidden substances identification by detection of fast neutron induced γ rays using associated α particle technique

Measurements have been made of characteristic gamma rays spectra from A(n,n^′γ)A reactions induced by 14.1 MeV neutrons on bulk samples of different substances: C, H₂O, SiO₂, C₃H₆N₆ and samples of soil. Background radiation was reduced by the associated alpha particle technique.     

Repair by radiation itself or not? A study of threonine irradiated by keV ion

A saddle type dose-survival rate curve of threonine was confirmed in low energy ion irradiation. Mass spectrometry has been used as an analytical tool in determining the species and quantities of volatile reaction products generated during the decomposition of threonine by fast atom bombardment. The radiation chemistry was related to the radiation physics of fundamental interaction between the projectile and target molecule. The nuclear collision process was proposed as the main reason of the particular dose effects curve, based on the analysis of the interaction process between the projectile and target molecule. A new repair model was assumed.     

Chromatin and DNA chain fragmentation studies on apoptosis in immune cells induced by ^235U and radioprotection of IL—2 or IL—6

The apoptosis in human acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell line Molt-4 cell and macrophage cell line Ana-1 cell are studied after internal irradiation with enriched uranium 235U.The cumulative absorption dose of ^235U in cultural cells through different periods are estimated.The fluorescence microscopic observations indicate that Molt-4 and Ana-1 immune cells internally irradiated by ^235U displayed significant chromatin fragmentation and marked pyknosis in immune cells nuclei.as well as DNA chain fragmentation and apoptotic bodies formation.It should be noted that DNA chain fragmentation induced by ^235U may be inhibited statistically by IL-2(interleukin-2)or IL-6 treatment.
