Raising the standard—System-independent programming for educational software

This paper introduces the need for a hardware— and operating system—independent programming environment for educational software production. The proposed system is based upon the graphics library developed at ILECC using the GKS standard. As a result of adopting such a standard developers can expect to achieve software portability, and avoid the problems that were encountered when moving from 8 to 16 bit microcomputers.
