The gallotannins of Galla chinensis (GAC) were extracted consecutively by five solvents of different polarity, and the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the extracts were evaluated. All of the ether-, ethyl acetate-, ethanol-, and water-extracts presented remarkable antioxidant abilities in the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), β-carotene linoleic acid system, and hydroxyl radical scavenging assays. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of these extracts against 3 species of gram-positive bacteria, 3 species of gram-negative bacteria, and 3 species of fungi were also determined using the agar dilution method. All of the extracts showed excellent antibacterial activities, but no antifungal activities. The gallotannins in different extracts were analyzed by the HPLC and HPLC-ESI-MS. The results indicated that the extracts with weaker polarity contained gallotannins with higher molecular weight, and had stronger antioxidant and antibacterial activities.  相似文献

Applicability of solvent-free microwave extraction (SFME) for extraction of the fruits of Schisandra chinensis essential oil was examined; the composition and antioxidant activities and antibacterial activities of the essential oil were assessed in vitro. An orthogonal experiment (L9 (3)4) was applied to optimize the extraction process. The optimum conditions were: extraction time, 45 min; microwave power, 800 W; diameter of powder particles, 0.25 mm; and proportion of water pretreatment, 30%. Under these conditions, the extraction yield was 1.75%. Thirty-five compounds, representing 91.12% of the oil, were identified, of which the major ones, ylangene (50.11%), β-himachalene (10.76%),α-bergamotene (9.52%) and β-Chamigrene (5.41%), accounted for of 75.80% the oil.Antioxidant activity, IC50 value of the essential oil was determined as 3.87 mg/mL by DPPH assay, and the inhibition values of the essential oil at 1.8 mg/mL was 41.88% by β-Carotene–linoleic acid bleaching assay. The essential oil was screened for antibacterial activity against both Gram positive (Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis) and Gram negative (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris) bacteria. The essential oil showed antibacterial effect against all the gram (+) bacteria and gram (−) bacteria tested. These results show that S. chinensis essential oil could be considered as a natural alternative to food antioxidants and preservatives.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to investigate the antioxidant and antibacterial activities of different extracts from Rabdosia rubescens and to further evaluate the antibacterial mechanism of extracts. The results showed that 80% acetone extracts had the highest contents of total polyphenols (8.09 mg GAE g?1) and flavonoids (5.69 mg RE g?1) and exhibited the strongest antioxidant activities, followed by 80% methanol and 80% ethanol, and the lowest for hexane extracts. Others except for hexane extracts showed different antibacterial activities against Gram‐positive strains, while no inhibitory effects were found on tested Gram‐negative bacterial strains. Among these extracts, 80% acetone and ethanol extracts had relatively higher antibacterial activities with the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration values of 5 and 10 mg mL?1. The antibacterial mechanism of ethanol extracts against Staphylococcus aureus might be described as it disrupts cell wall, increases cell membrane permeability and then leads to the leakage of cell constituents.  相似文献

The fruit of Clausena lansium (wampee) is popular in southern China and warm areas of the world. Our chemical study on the fruit yielded three jasmonoid glucosides, 12-β-d-glucopyranosyloxy-6-epi-7-isocucurbic acid-1,6-lactone (1), 12-β-d-glucopyranosyloxyjasmonic acid (2) and 12-hydroxyjasmonic acid (3), two sesquiterpenes, (+)-curcumen-12-oic acid (4) and (+)-(E)-α-santalen-12-oic acid (5), two coumarins, xanthotoxol (6) and indicolactone (7), in addition to 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (8), 5-hydroxymethylfuraldehyde (9), isopropyl β-d-glucopyranoside (10) and stigmasterol (11). Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods. Compound 1 was a new metabolite and the others excluding 6 were reported from the species for the first time. Compounds 17 were evaluated for antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Among them, compound 6 showed antioxidant activity in ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and DPPH radical scavenging assays as well as antibacterial activity against Staphyloccocus aureus and Shigella dysenteriae, while compound 5 was active against Bacillus cereus.  相似文献

Modification of gelatine with a novel natural polyphenol, Galla chinensis extract, was investigated. The gel strength, elastic and viscous moduli, swelling property, thermal stability, X-ray diffraction, ultrastructure, and Fourier transform infrared spectra were determined to evaluate the properties of the modified gelatine. Gel strength and thermal stability tests indicated that Galla chinensis extract increased the stability of gelatine within a certain concentration range. On the other hand, the swelling of Galla chinensis extract-containing gelatine decreased with increasing Galla chinensis extract content because of the formation of a denser structure. The elastic and viscous moduli were enhanced by Galla chinensis extract, but the melting and gelling points did not show any significant improvement. Scanning electron microscopy studies suggested that Galla chinensis extract played an important role in modifying the gelatine microstructure. X-ray diffraction revealed that Galla chinensis extract could intercalate the gelatine chains and strengthen the intermolecular interactions. These results suggested that Galla chinensis extract may be used as a novel natural crosslinker to stabilize gelatine, and gels treated with Galla chinensis extract could be found with different properties.  相似文献

Free radical scavenging and antibacterial activities were determined for several red wines from different grape varieties from the southern Serbia wine region. The amount of polyphenols and anthocyanins in selected wines was investigated and the potential antibacterial activity of the wines against pathogenic strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli was also determined. The free radical scavenging and antibacterial activity of the wines was correlated with polyphenolic and anthocyanin content. The significant differences in the antioxidant and antibacterial activities between the wines from grape cultivars (Cabernet Sauvingon and Pinot Noir) and the indigenous varieties (Vranac and Prokupac) were not confirmed. The hypothesis of a protective effect of red wine is supported by our results that show that the red wines with higher amounts of polyphenols and anthocyanins had higher antioxidant and antibacterial properties.  相似文献

Chinese herbs employed in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have been used for centuries in the practice of medicated diet and dietetic therapy. The seed of Cuscuta chinensis Lam. (Convolvulaceae), a commonly used traditional Chinese herb, is frequently added in Chinese cooking and preparation of refreshments, including porridge and alcoholic beverages, to nourish the human body. In the present study, we compared the antioxidant activities of water and ethanol extracts from the seeds C. chinensis and also of its different organic fractions, including n-hexane, ethyl acetate, n-butanol and organic water, by assessing their DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazine) free radical-scavenging, superoxide anion scavenging, anti-superoxide anion formation and anti-lipid peroxidation abilities. The flavonol contents of all test samples were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography with an ultraviolet (HPLC–UV) detector. The results showed that there is a direct correlation of the flavonol content with the antioxidant activities from the extracts and fractions of C. chinensis. Moreover, the ethyl acetate fraction demonstrated significantly better and higher antioxidant effects, and also had a higher flavonol content than had the remaining samples (P < 0.05). The water fractions, however, exhibited the weakest antioxidant activity, and had low concentrations of flavonols. Thus, we suggest that the ethanol extract of C. chinensis, but not its water extract, could be used as a dietary nutritional supplement to promote human health and prevent oxidation-related diseases, due to its antioxidant properties.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the essential oils from Origanum dictamnus L. (wild and organic cultivated plant) was analysed by GC–MS. Carvacrol, thymol, p-cymene, and γ-terpinene were identified as major constituents and isolated from both samples. The above components were successfully encapsulated in phosphatidyl choline-based liposomes and the possible improvement of their antioxidant and antimicrobial activities was tested against selected microbia. The antimicrobial properties of the oils were tested by a diffusion technique against four Gram positive and four Gram negative bacteria and three human pathogenic fungi, as well as the food-borne pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes. The percentage of the encapsulated carvacrol, the major component of the oil, was determined by GC–FID. In order to investigate any possible synergistic or antagonistic effect between carvacrol/thymol and carvacrol/γ-terpinene, the antimicrobial activities of the mixtures, were also determined before and after encapsulation in liposomes. All tested compounds presented enhanced antimicrobial activities after the encapsulation. Finally, in all cases, their antioxidant activity using differential scanning calorimetry was studied, in order to gain knowledge about their oxidation stability.  相似文献

本文以水为溶剂提取获得五倍子水提物并测定其总酚及总黄酮含量、抗氧化及抗菌活性,以及将五倍子水提物添加至魔芋葡甘聚糖溶液中对猪肉进行涂膜保鲜。在体外实验中,五倍子水提物可清除2,2-联氮-二(三-乙基-苯并噻唑-6-磺酸)二铵盐(ABTS)自由基,且对金黄色葡萄球菌和大肠杆菌具有抑制作用。将添加五倍子水提物的魔芋葡甘聚糖(KGM)涂膜液对冷鲜猪肉进行涂膜,能延缓冷鲜猪肉中菌落总数、硫代巴比妥酸(TBARS)值、p H以及颜色的变化。以菌落总数为参考指标,富含五倍子水提物的涂膜处理的冷鲜猪肉与未经涂膜处理的冷鲜猪肉对比,在4℃储藏条件下货架期延长5 d。含五倍子水提物的魔芋葡甘聚糖涂膜对冷鲜猪肉具有保鲜效果。   相似文献

Ecklonia stolonifera and Ecklonia kurome are traditional edible brown algae in the fisheries towns in Far East Asia. In the Noto Peninsula area, Ishikawa, Japan, both the Ecklonia are called ‘kajime’ and people believe that the algae improve the property of blood. To determine the varieties of antioxidant and antibacterial properties E. stolonifera and E. kurome products, assays for total phenolic content and antioxidant activities, including DPPH radical-scavenging activity, superoxide anion radical-generated by non-enzymatic system, ferrous-reducing power and WST-8, a tetrazolium salt, redox activity of four dried and two boiled E. stolonifera, and four dried and two raw E. kurome preparations were tested in this study. Furthermore, antibacterial activity of the products was tested. Though the total phenolic content, the antioxidant activity and the antibacterial activities of E. stolorifera and E. kurome products were high, these properties were varied by manufacturers or each product. Especially, two dried and two boiled products of E. stolonifera showed low activities. The results of this study indicate that the contents of functional compounds and their activities were affected or decreased greatly by the processing method.  相似文献

Honey possesses antioxidant and antibacterial activities; however the compounds that are responsible for these activities are still under investigation. To determine whether there are common features/compounds that underlie the antioxidant and antibacterial activities, 20 Canadian honeys were analysed using the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) and the broth micro-dilutions assay, respectively. Principal component analysis revealed the highest correlation between ORAC and Maillard reaction-like products (MRLP) (R = 0.938, p < 0.0001). In addition, the extremely significant correlations between ORAC, MRLPs, phenolic content and honey colour may suggest that these compounds represent the same chemical entity and exert their antioxidant activity while being part of a higher molecular weight structure. Moreover, the antioxidant activity and MRLPs were also the dominant variables contributing to the antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (R = 0.737, p < 0.0001 and R = 0.65, p < 0.002, respectively) however no such correlation against Bacillus subtilis. In conclusion, MRLPs in honey appear to underlie the antioxidant and partially the antibacterial activity against E. coli.  相似文献

Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is widely accepted as a delicious fruit in China and its seeds have been commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine to relieve neuralgic pain. In the present study, chemical investigation of the 95% ethanol extract of Litchi chinensis seeds led to the isolation of four new compounds, 2α,3α-epoxy-5,7,3′,4′-tetrahydroxyflavan-(4β-8-catechin) (5), 2β,3β-epoxy-5,7,3′,4′-tetrahydroxyflavan-(4α-8-epicatechin) (7), litchiol A (9) and litchiol B (12), together with 11 known ones, 2,5-dihydroxy-hexanoic acid (1), soscopoletin (2), coumaric acid (3), protocatechuic acid (4), 2α,3α-epoxy-5,7,3′,4′-tetrahydroxyflavan-(4β−8)-epicatechin (6), pterodontriol d-6-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (8), Narirutin (10), naringin (11), dihydrocharcone-4′-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (13), pinocembrin-7-rutinoside (14), pinocembrin-7-neohesperidoside (15). Their structures were mainly elucidated on the basis of NMR, MS, IR, CD and UV spectral evidences. Antioxidant activities of 14 compounds were determined by DPPH radical-scavenging assay and Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity assay, and the results showed that four compounds, protocatechuic acid (4), 2α,3α-epoxy-5,7,3′,4′-tetrahydroxyflavan-(4β-8-catechin (5), 2α,3α-epoxy-5,7,3′,4′-tetrahydroxyflavan-(4β−8)-epicatechin (6), 2β,3β-epoxy-5,7,3′,4′-tetrahydroxyflavan-(4α-8)-epicatechin (7), exhibited moderate antioxidant activities.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the antioxidant, antibacterial, and antiproliferative activities of flesh free (FF), flesh bound (FB), peel free (PF), and peel bound (PB) phenolics from Fuji apple. The PB, which had highest total phenolic contents (126.15 ± 2.41 mg/100 g wet weight) and lowest total carbohydrate contents (34.68 ± 2.78 mg/100 g wet weight), showed the strongest 2,2’‐azinobis‐(3‐ethylbenthiazoline‐6‐sulphonate) (ABTS) radical scavenging activity (EC50 = 0.36 ± 0.02 mg/mL), 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picryhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity (EC50 = 0.26 ± 0.01 mg/mL), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (Ferric reducing antioxidant power; EC50 = 0.19 ± 0.02 mg/mL) compared with those of FF, FB, and PF. The PB also showed the strongest antibacterial activities on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes and it also showed the highest antiproliferative effects on Caco‐2 human colonic cancer cell (EC50 = 1.44 ± 0.01 mg/mL) and Hela human cervical cell (EC50 = 2.81 ± 0.01 mg/mL). Both free and bound phenolics from Fuji apple showed good antioxidant, antibacterial, and antiproliferative activities in our study, and bound phenolics had significantly higher activities compared with those of free phenolics.  相似文献

In the present study, the seeds and fruit rind of six plants of the Fabaceae family were selected to evaluate their potential as antioxidant and antibacterial agents. The dried powders were individually extracted with various organic solvents by the cold percolation method, were evaluated for antibacterial activity and methanol extracts used for antioxidant activities. Total phenol, protein and sugar contents were also measured. Antioxidant activities were measured by DPPH free radical scavenging activity, superoxide anion radical scavenging activity and reducing capacity assessment. Antibacterial activity was measured by the agar well diffusion method against four Gram positive and four Gram negative bacteria. The methanol extract of the fruit rind of C. indica showed the maximum DPPH free radical scavenging activity, superoxide anion radical scavenging activity, a high reducing capacity assessment and also had the highest total phenol content. There was a direct correlation between the phenol content and the antioxidant activity. The antibacterial activity of all the extracts was more pronounced on Gram positive bacteria than on Gram negative bacteria. Thus, the fruit rind of C. indica showed the best antioxidant and antibacterial activities.  相似文献

Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is a delicious fruit widely accepted by consumers all over the world. In this work, phytochemical investigation of litchi pericarp methanol extracts led to the isolation of a novel phenolic, 2-(2-hydroxyl-5-(methoxycarbonyl) phenoxy) benzoic acid, together with kaempferol, isolariciresinol, stigmasterol, butylated hydroxytoluene, 3,4-dihydroxyl benzoate, methyl shikimate and ethyl shikimate. Most were found in litchi pericarp for the first time. Their structures were mainly elucidated by NMR and MS evidences. Antioxidant activities of the eight compounds were determined by a DPPH radical scavenging assay and the results showed that 2-(2-hydroxy-5-(methoxycarbonyl) phenoxy)benzoic acid, kaempferol, isolariciresinol, butylated hydroxytoluene and 3,4-dihydroxy benzoate exhibited good antioxidant activities. An interesting finding was that butylated hydroxytoluene was detected as a natural antioxidant in this work, which was usually taken as a synthesized antioxidant. Furthermore, the novel compound exhibited no inhibitory effects against tyrosinase and α-glucosidase activities.  相似文献

Total phenolic content, antioxidant and antibacterial activities of Ficus microcarpa aerial roots were determined on methanol extract and its sub-fractions (hexane, ethyl acetate, n -butanol and water). The ethyl acetate fraction possessed the highest amount of phenolic compounds evaluated by Folin-Ciocalteu reagent method. It also showed the highest antioxidant activity when tested the following methods: DPPH, ABTS+ radical-scavenging, superoxide radical scavenging, reducing power and β -carotene linoleic acid bleaching. On the other hand, high phenolics content extracts (ethyl acetate, methanol and n -butanol) showed significantly higher inhibitory activity than low phenolics content extracts (water and hexane) against five tested Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Protocatechuic acid, catechol, p -vinylguaiacol, syringol, p -propylphenol, vanillin, p -propylguaiacol, isovanillic acid, 4- n -Propylresorcinol, syringaldehyde and oleanolic acid contained in ethyl acetate fraction were identified by GC-MS and HPLC based on their cochromatography with standard compounds. Protocatechuic acid, catechol and syringol exhibited nearly same antioxidant activity as did by positive control Trolox using the mentioned assays. Results here showed that the ethyl acetate fraction has strong antioxidant and antibacterial activities, which are correlated with its high level of phenolic compounds.  相似文献

The aim of this study was the investigation of antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of different ethanolic extracts of propolis (EEP) collected from north‐western Algeria. Total polyphenols and flavonoids contents of extracts were measured. The UV absorption spectrum showed and confirmed their polyphenols constituents. All EEPs exerted antibacterial activity against Gram‐positive bacteria, but no effect on Gram‐negative bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of EEPs ranged from 0.01% to 2.6% v/v. The antioxidant activity was measured using ferric‐reducing power (FRAP), 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical‐scavenging and ESR methods. Propolis TIA‐2 and MOH‐MAS samples showed the highest antioxidative capacity, after 35 min, while TIA‐1, NED‐TL and SFS‐SBA samples showed the highest antioxidative potential of measured EEPs, after 3 min. TIA‐2 sample showed the highest antibacterial, antioxidant activity and highest DPPH free radical‐scavenging activity as well as the highest polyphenols and flavonoids content, compared with other propolis samples.  相似文献

The methanolic fresh leaf extracts of Macaranga gigantea, Macaranga pruinosa, Macaranga tanarius and Macaranga triloba were screened for their antioxidant properties (AOP), tyrosinase inhibition and antibacterial activities. Total phenolic content (TPC), 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging, ferric-ion reducing power (FRAP), ferrous-ion chelating (FIC) and lipid peroxidation inhibition (LPI) activities were used to evaluate the AOP. Modified 3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine (L-DOPA) method was used to determine tyrosinase inhibition activity, whereas antibacterial activity was determined using the disc-diffusion technique. TPC screening of the same species from different collection sites showed no significant difference between sites. M.triloba showed the highest ascorbic acid equivalent antioxidant activity (AEAC), FRAP and LPI values. M. tanarius, which showed the lowest TPC, AEAC, FRAP and LPI activities, exhibited the best FIC activity. M. pruinosa showed the best tyrosinase inhibition activity, whereas M. triloba showed the best antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria species, with minimal inhibition dosage (MID) values as low as 10 μg/disc.  相似文献

Different parts of three plants (Primula auriculata, Fumaria vaillantii and Falcaria vulgaris) were extracted with three different solvents to yield 72 crude extracts. The phytochemical analysis (chemical screening, GC–MS) of three plants was investigated for their antioxidant and antibacterial activity using nine Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The principal antioxidant and antimicrobial components were determined using HPLC with UV detection. All extracts possessed antibacterial activity especially methanolic extracts from flowers of P. auriculata. The DPPH-radical scavenging assay exhibited high antioxidant activities in three plants (more than 80% at 50 μg). The F. vulgaris showed high content of carvacrol (29.8%) as main component. The contents of carvacrol and fumaric acid in the methanolic–water extracts were 1119 and 1966 mg/l respectively. Our results indicate that these plants would be able to promise sources of natural products with potential antibacterial and antioxidant activity.  相似文献

Physicochemical, binding, antioxidant and antibacterial properties of chitosans prepared from ground and entire crab leg shells were compared. Chitosan prepared from ground shell (designated as g‐chitosan) had significantly higher nitrogen content, degree of deacetylation, solubility and viscosity, but lower ash content, bulk density and colour redness (a*) value than chitosan prepared from entire shell (designated as e‐chitosan). Compared with e‐chitosan, g‐chitosan had comparable water‐binding capacity, but higher fat‐binding and dye‐binding capacity, DPPH radical scavenging activity and antibacterial activity against two Gram‐negative (Salmonella Enteritidis and Escherichia coli) and two Gram‐positive (Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria. This study demonstrated that chitosans prepared from ground and entire crab leg shell exhibited drastic differences in their physicochemical and functional characteristics. These differences were contributed by the particle size of the crab shell.  相似文献
