We focus on the problem of scheduling n independent jobs on m identical parallel machines with the objective of minimizing total tardiness of the jobs considering a job splitting property. In this problem, it is assumed that a job can be split into sub-jobs and these sub-jobs can be processed independently on parallel machines. We develop several dominance properties and lower bounds for the problem, and suggest a branch and bound algorithm using them. Computational experiments are performed on randomly generated test problems and results show that the suggested algorithm solves problems of moderate sizes in a reasonable amount of computation time.  相似文献

This paper deals with the single machine total tardiness problem, and proves that if the job sequences produced by two heuristics, named as Time Forward and Time Backward algorithms, have the same starting and ending job subsequences, then there exists an optimal job sequence with the starting and ending job subsequences. The computation experiments show that there is a significant improvement of the running time of a branch and bound algorithm with the incorporation of the new property.  相似文献

A scheduling problem with unrelated parallel machines, sequence and machine-dependent setup times, due dates and weighted jobs is considered in this work. A branch-and-bound algorithm (B&B) is developed and a solution provided by the metaheuristic GRASP is used as an upper bound. We also propose a set of instances for this type of problem. The results are compared to the solutions provided by two mixed integer programming models (MIP) with the solver CPLEX 9.0. We carry out computational experiments and the algorithm performs extremely well on instances with up to 30 jobs.  相似文献

This paper presents a modified Branch and Bound (B&B) algorithm called, the Branch, Bound, and Remember (BB&R) algorithm, which uses the Distributed Best First Search (DBFS) exploration strategy for solving the 1|r i |∑t i scheduling problem, a single machine scheduling problem where the objective is to find a schedule with the minimum total tardiness. Memory-based dominance strategies are incorporated into the BB&R algorithm. In addition, a modified memory-based dynamic programming algorithm is also introduced to efficiently compute lower bounds for the 1|r i |∑t i scheduling problem. Computational results are reported, which shows that the BB&R algorithm with the DBFS exploration strategy outperforms the best known algorithms reported in the literature.  相似文献

This paper considers the identical parallel machines scheduling problem (PMSP) with a single server in charge of job setups. A job can be processed with a precedent setup by a server on one of the machines. The setup can be processed at only one machine at any time. In this paper, the problem P, S1|sj|Cmax with a general job set is formulated using mixed integer programming in two ways. The first one is developed by taking into account the characteristics of the single server problem, and the second one is developed by adding the concept of the server waiting time suggested by Abdekhodaee and Wirth (2002) [3]. Abdekhodaee and Wirth (2002) [3] define the equation of the server waiting time applied to only the special case with two machines and a regular job set. The general model for several machines is studied in this paper by developing the properties on the server waiting time. The hybrid heuristic algorithm is developed for the practical use, which can yield a near-optimal schedule in a reasonable computational time. The performance of algorithm is evaluated by comparing with the results of MIP models and heuristics appearing in the literature.  相似文献

This research proposes a heuristic and a tabu search algorithm (TSA) to find non-dominated solutions to bicriteria unrelated parallel machine scheduling problems with release dates. The two objective functions considered in this problem are to minimize both makespan and total weighted tardiness. The computational results show that the proposed heuristic is computationally efficient and provides solutions of reasonable quality. The proposed TSA outperforms other algorithms in terms of the number of non-dominated solutions and the quality of its solutions.  相似文献

In the event that big-sized complex products (containing a large number of assembly tasks most of which have long task times) are produced in simple or two-sided assembly lines, hundreds of stations are essentially required. Long product flow time, a large area for establishment of the line, a high budget for the investment of equipment, and tools in stations and several work-in-process are also required for these kinds of products. In order to avoid these disadvantages, assembly lines with parallel multi-manned workstations can be utilized. In this paper, these lines and one of their balancing problems are addressed, and a branch and bound algorithm is proposed. The algorithm is composed of a branching scheme, some efficient dominance and feasibility criteria based on a problem-specific knowledge. A heuristic-based guidance for enumeration process is included as an efficient component of the algorithm as well. VWSolver algorithm proposed for a special version of the problem in the literature has been modified and compared with the proposed algorithm. Results show that proposed algorithm outperforms VWSolver in terms of both CPU times and quality of feasible solutions found.  相似文献

We consider the problem of scheduling a set of non-preemptable jobs on two identical parallel machines such that the makespan is minimized. Before processing, each job must be loaded on a machine, which takes a given setup time. All these setups have to be done by a single server which can handle at most one job at a time. For this problem, we propose a mixed integer linear programming formulation based on the idea of decomposing a schedule into a set of blocks. We compare the results obtained by the model suggested with known heuristics from the literature.  相似文献

We consider the strongly NP-hard problem of scheduling two-operation non-preemptable jobs on two identical parallel machines. A single server, that can handle at most one job at a time, is available to carry out the first (or setup) operation. The second operation, to be carried out on the same machine but without the server, must be executed immediately after the setup. The objective is to minimize the makespan. We apply a column generation method to a population of partial schedules, in turn generated by some well known heuristics, to achieve effective and efficient solutions. We compare the performance of this method with those proposed earlier and also suggest future work.  相似文献

This paper investigates the scheduling problem of parallel identical batch processing machines in which each machine can process a group of jobs simultaneously as a batch. Each job is characterized by its size and processing time. The processing time of a batch is given by the longest processing time among all jobs in the batch. Based on developing heuristic approaches, we proposed a hybrid genetic heuristic (HGH) to minimize makespan objective. To verify the performance of our algorithm, comparisons are made through using a simulated annealing (SA) approach addressed in the literature as a comparator algorithm. Computational experiments reveal that affording the knowledge of problem through using heuristic procedures, gives HGH the ability of finding optimal or near optimal solutions in a reasonable time.  相似文献

We introduce and analyze several models of schedulingn different types (groups) of jobs onm parallel machines, where in each group all jobs are identical. Our main goal is to exhibit the usefulness of quadratic programming approaches to solve these classes of high multiplicity scheduling problems, with the total weighted completion time as the minimization criterion. We develop polynomial algorithms for some models, and strongly polynomial algorithms for certain special cases. In particular, the model in which the weights are job independent, as well as the generally weighted model in which processing requirements are job independent, can be formulated as an integer convex separable quadratic cost flow problem, and therefore solved in polynomial time. When we specialize further, strongly polynomial bounds are achievable. Specifically, for the weighted model with job-independent processing requirements if we restrict the weights to be machine independent (while still assuming different machine speeds), anO(mn+n logn) algorithm is developed. If it is also assumed that all the machines have the same speed, the complexity of the algorithm can be improved toO(m logm+n logn). These results can be extended to related unweighted models with variable processing requirements in which all the machines are available at time zero. This paper presents several procedures for scheduling identical parallel machines with family setups when the objective is to minimize total tardiness. These procedures are tested on several problem sets with varying numbers of families, jobs and machines, varying setup time distributions and various levels of due date tightness and variability. The results show that genetic algorithms are the most effective algorithms for the problem.  相似文献

We present a new highly parallel algorithm for fast determination of near-optimal solutions to the NP-hard problem of identifying a maximum distance-2 matching in arbitrary graphs. This problem, known as D2EMIS, has important applications such as determining the maximum capacity of the media access (MAC) layer in wireless ad-hoc networks [1]. It can also be seen as a maximum 2-packing problem [2] on the edge-to-vertex dual graph of the original graph. Our algorithm extends the GRASP [3] philosophy in that partial solutions are constructed by adding in a greedy adaptive manner the “best” nodes that can be found; however, when there are multiple alternatives that can be selected in an iteration, the algorithm branches into as many paths as there are (greedy) alternatives. The algorithm, using appropriate bounds to prune partial solutions that cannot be optimal, produces very fast near-optimal solutions that compare very well against other distributed algorithms and random greedy heuristics proposed before or variants thereof, or exact methods (Integer Programming or Maximum Satisfiability state-of-the-art solvers).  相似文献

A two parallel machines scheduling problem where one machine is periodically unavailable with the objective of minimizing makespan is considered. It is showed that the worst-case ratio of the classical LPT algorithm and the competitive ratio of the LS algorithm are 3/2 and 2, respectively, for the offline version and the online version of the problem.  相似文献

In this work, we tackle the problem of scheduling a set of jobs on a set of unrelated parallel machines with minimising the total weighted completion times as performance criteria. The iterated greedy metaheuristic generates a sequence of solutions by iterating over a constructive heuristic using destruction and construction phases. In the last few years, iterated greedy has been employed to solve a considerable number of problems. This is because it is based on a very simple principle, it is easy to implement, and it often exhibits an excellent performance. Moreover, scalability for high-dimensional problems becomes an essential requirement for modern optimisation algorithms. This paper proposes an iterated greedy model for the above-mentioned scheduling problem to tackle large-size instances. The benefits of our proposal in comparison to existing metaheuristics proposed in the literature are experimentally shown.  相似文献

This paper studies a semi-online hierarchical scheduling problem on three identical machines. In the problem, there is only one machine with hierarchy 1 and two machines with hierarchy 2, and the goal is to minimize the makespan. When the total size of low-hierarchy is known, an online algorithm with the competitive ratio of 5/3 and the lower bound of 3/2 is given. When the total size of high-hierarchy is known, an online algorithm with the competitive ratio of 9/5 and the lower bound of 3/2 is given. When the total size of each hierarchy is known, an online algorithm with the competitive ratio of 3/2 and the lower bound of 4/3 is given. When the total size of jobs is known, a best possible online algorithm with the competitive ratio of 3/2 is given.  相似文献

This paper presents a new job release (JR) and scheduling methodology for one-stage parallel machines where sequence dependent setup times exist. A decision support system (DSS) based on job release is developed in order to enable the application of the methodology. First, mathematical programming models for both job release and job scheduling are devised. Then, due to the NP-hard nature of the problems, heuristics are proposed. As for the interaction between JR and scheduling, job scheduling is integrated with job release for the proposed heuristic solutions so that the capacity achievement provided by scheduling can be utilized for job release. In brief, product design characteristics oriented scheduling affects JR in the proposed approach. Moreover, value stream mapping (VSM) approach is used with the aim of stating the effect of the proposed methodology. Furthermore, the presented methodology was applied in a real life electric wire-harness production system. The application, based on 120-day production data, revealed that the proposed methodology provided 25% decrease in in-plant manufacturing lead time.  相似文献

In this study we consider a U-shaped assembly line balancing problem where each task uses a specified set of equipments and each type of equipment has a specified cost. Our problem is to assign the tasks together with their equipments to the workstations so as to minimize the total equipment cost. We formulate the problem as a mixed integer linear programming model that is capable of solving small sized instances. We propose a branch and bound algorithm that uses efficient precedence relations and lower bounds. We find that the algorithm is able to solve moderate sized problem instances in reasonable times.  相似文献

We address the parallel machine total weighted tardiness scheduling problem with release dates. We describe dominance rules and filtering methods for this problem. Most of them are adaptations of dominance rules based on solution methods for the single-machine problem. We show how it is possible to deduce whether or not certain jobs can be processed by a particular machine in a particular context and we describe techniques that use this information to improve the dominance rules. On the basis of these techniques we describe an enumeration procedure and we provide experimental results to determine the effectiveness of the dominance rules.  相似文献

We study the online batch scheduling problem on parallel machines with delivery times. Online algorithms are designed on m parallel batch machines to minimize the time by which all jobs have been delivered. When all jobs have identical processing times, we provide the optimal online algorithms for both bounded and unbounded versions of this problem. For the general case of processing time on unbounded batch machines, an online algorithm with a competitive ratio of 2 is given when the number of machines m=2 or m=3, respectively. When m≥4, we present an online algorithm with a competitive ratio of 1.5+o(1).  相似文献
