The combustion characteristics of liquefied petroleum gas inside porous heating burners have been investigated experimentally under steady-state and transient conditions. Cooling tubes were embedded in the postflame region of the packed bed of a porous heating burner. The flame speed, temperature profile, and [NOx] and [CO] in the product gases were monitored during an experiment. Due to the heat removal by the cooling tubes, a phenomenon termed metastable combustion was observed; this is that only one flame speed exists at a particular equivalence ratio for maintaining stable combustion within the porous bed of the porous heating burner. This behavior is quite different from that of porous burners without cooling tubes, in which an extended range of flame speeds usually is found for maintaining stable combustion. After metastable combustion has been established in a porous heating burner, a change in the equivalence ratio will stop the metastable combustion and drive the flame out of the packed bed. From the steady-state results, the porous heating burner was shown to maintain stable combustion under fuel-lean conditions with an equivalence ratio lower than the flammability limit of a normal free-burning system. The flame speed in a porous heating burner was found to decrease with an increase in the length of the porous bed. Combustion within a porous heating burner has the features of low flame temperature, extended reaction zone, high preheating temperature and low emissions of NOx and CO. The flame temperature ranged from 1050 to 1250 °C, which is ∼200 °C lower than the adiabatic flame temperature at the corresponding equivalence ratio. The length of the reaction zone could be more than 70 mm and the preheating temperature ranged from 950 to 1000 °C. Both [NOx] and [CO] were low, typically below 10 ppm.  相似文献

In the present analysis, the flame stabilization and temperature distribution within a premixed burner contain porous wall are studied experimentally. The effects of inner diameter, length, and pore density of the porous wall, thermal load, equivalence ratio, and the inlet velocity of the fuel‐air mixture on these are studied. The fuel used in this study is natural gas and the porous wall is SiC (silicon carbide) ceramic foam. The experimental results clearly indicate that the axial temperature along the porous wall increases when the inner diameter of the porous wall decreases and its length increases. The porous wall temperature with an inner diameter of 40 mm, length of 66 mm, and pore density of 30 PPI (pores per inch) has the highest temperature among the examined states. The results of studying the effect of the porous wall on flame stability show that the flame stability limit has a direct relationship with the length and pore density of porous wall and an inverse relationship with the inner diameter of the porous wall. Also, it is found that the porous wall has the highest temperature causes the maximum flame stability limit.  相似文献

Micro-combustor is a portable power device that can provide energy efficiently, heat recirculating is considered to be an important factor affecting the combustion process. For enhancing the heat recirculating and improving the combustion stability, we proposed a heat-recirculating micro-combustor embedded with porous media, and the numerical simulation was carried out by CFD software. In this paper, the effect of porous media materials, thickness and inlet conditions (equivalence ratio, inlet velocity) on the temperature distribution and exhaust species in the micro combustor are investigated. The results showed that compared with the micro combustor without embedded porous media (MCNPM), micro-combustor embedded with porous media (MCEPM) can improve the temperature uniformity distribution in the radial direction and strengthen the preheating capacity. However, it is found that the embedding thickness of porous media should be reasonably arranged. Setting the thickness of porous media to 15 mm, the combustor can obtain excellent comprehensive capacity of steady combustion and heat recirculating. Compared the thermal performance of Al2O3, SiC, and ZrO2 porous media materials, indicating that SiC due to its strong thermal conductivity, its combustion stabilization and heat recirculating capacity are obviously better than that of Al2O3 and ZrO2. With the porous media embedded in the micro combustor, the combustion has a tempering limit of more than 10 m/s, and the flame is blown out of the porous media area over 100 m/s. The reasonable equivalence ratio of CH4/air combustion should be controlled within the range of 0.1–0.5, and “super-enthalpy combustion” can be realized.  相似文献

An experimental study was conducted using outwardly propagating flame to evaluate the laminar burning velocity and flame intrinsic instability of diluted H2/CO/air mixtures. The laminar burning velocity of H2/CO/air mixtures diluted with CO2 and N2 was measured at lean equivalence ratios with different dilution fractions and hydrogen fractions at 0.1 MPa; two fitting formulas are proposed to express the laminar burning velocity in our experimental scope. The flame instability was evaluated for diluted H2/CO/air mixtures under different hydrogen fractions at 0.3 MPa and room temperature. As the H2 fraction in H2/CO mixtures was more than 50%, the flame became more unstable with the decrease in equivalence ratio; however, the flame became more stable with the decrease in equivalence ratio when the hydrogen fraction was low. The flame instability of 70%H2/30%CO premixed flames hardly changed with increasing dilution fraction. However, the flames became more stable with increasing dilution fraction for 30%H2/70%CO premixed flames. The variation in cellular instability was analyzed, and the effects of hydrogen fraction, equivalence ratio, and dilution fraction on diffusive-thermal and hydrodynamic instabilities were discussed.  相似文献

A porous burner stacked in turn with 3‐ and 9‐mm alumina pellets was established to perform C2H4 combustion experiments by acquiring the flammable limits, temperature variation characteristics, combustion wave velocity, pollutant emissions, and treatment efficiency. The burner operated well at equivalence ratios within 0.3 to 0.7. Larger alumina pellets widened the burner's lower flammable limit. As the flame propagated downstream, the higher premixed gas flow velocity and larger alumina pellets, the higher combustion wave velocity, whereas the circumstances were opposite as the flame spread upstream. The combustion temperature increased with the equivalence ratio and premixed gas flow velocity. In response to the effect of the alumina pellet dimension, 3‐mm alumina pellets corresponded to higher combustion temperatures, lower CO emissions, and higher treatment efficiency than those less than 9‐mm conditions.  相似文献

The work investigates the reacting flow field, oxy‐methane flame characteristics and location, and the species distributions in a porous‐plate reactor mimicking the operation of oxygen transport membrane reactors (OTMRs). The study was performed experimentally and numerically considering ranges of operating equivalence ratio, from 0.5 to 1.0, and CO2 concentrations in the total oxidizer flow (O2 and CO2), from 0% to 55% (by Vol). Oxygen was supplied through a slightly pressurized top and bottom chambers to cross the two porous plates to the central chamber, where a premixed mixture of CH4 and CO2 is introduced. ANSYS Fluent 17.1 software was used to solve for conservation and radiative transfer equations in the full three‐dimensional (3‐D) domain. The modified Westbrook‐Dryer (Oxy‐WD) two‐step reduced mechanism for oxy‐methane combustion was adapted for the calculations of chemical kinetics. The captured flame shapes using a high‐speed camera were compared with the calculated ones, and the results showed good agreements. At fixed equivalence ratio, elongated flames were obtained at higher CO2 concentrations due to the increase in the mainstream Reynolds number and reduction in reaction rates, which delays the completeness of combustion. At fixed CO2 concentration, the increase in equivalence ratio resulted in more compact and intense flames. The effective mixing and flame stability resulted in complete fuel conversion under stoichiometric condition. Stable flames were located between the two porous plates at reasonable distance. This perfect flame location prevents the thermal fracture of the membranes and improves their oxygen permeation flux, resulting in better combustion characteristics when the results are projected on the case of OTMRs. This implies efficient and safe applicability of the OTMRs by the condition that membranes can provide sufficient oxygen flux for complete combustion. A warm outer recirculation zone (ORZ) was created beside each porous plate, which helps anchoring the flame at the leading edge of the porous plate. The range of temperature within the ORZ was 800 to 1600 K, which lies in the operability limits of membranes for the case of OTMRs. The effective complete mixing and flame stability resulted in complete fuel conversion under stoichiometric condition. The temperature and species distributions within the reactor are presented in detail over wide ranges of operating conditions. The results recommended the reactor operation under stoichiometric combustion condition based on performance and economic points of views. The results are promising when projected on the application of the OTMRs under oxy‐combustion conditions for clean and efficient energy production.  相似文献

Metals such as Al and Mg have high combustion enthalpies and they are widely used as additives in energetic materials for propellants, explosives, and pyrotechnics. However, long ignition delays and slow combustion kinetics limit their current applications. An approach suggested in this work is to design new metal-based materials in which pre-determined phase changes will occur and trigger ignition at a desired temperature and also accelerate the rate of heat release during combustion. As a first step, metastable solid solutions of Mg in Al (10-50% of Mg) have been produced by mechanical alloying. The ignition temperatures of the produced alloys in air were determined using digital imaging and three-color pyrometry of the electrically heated filaments coated with different alloy powders. Combustion of mechanical alloys in air was studied using a laminar, premixed flame aerosol burner. The ignition temperatures were around 1,000 K, much lower than the pure aluminum ignition temperature of about 2,300 K. The steady flames of mechanical alloy powders were produced at lower equivalence ratios and had higher propagation velocities than similar pure aluminum powder flames. Phase compositions of the combustion products were determined using X-ray diffraction. In addition to Al2O3 and MgO, significant amounts of Al2MgO4 were found in experiments.

Present work is a numerical analysis of combustion of submicron carbon particles inside an inert porous medium where the particles in form of suspension in air enter the porous medium. A one-dimensional heat transfer model has been developed using the two-flux gray radiation approximation for radiative heat flux equations. The effects of absorption coefficient, emissivity of medium, flame position and reaction enthalpy flux on radiative energy output efficiency have been presented. It is revealed that in porous medium the combustion of suspended carbon particles is similar to premixed single phase gaseous fuel combustion except the former has shorter preheating temperature zone length. Use of porous ceramic having high porosity and made of Al2O3 or ZrO2 with stabilized flame position operated nearer to downstream end will ensure radiative output maximum and minimum at downstream and upstream end, respectively.  相似文献

Hydrogen energy is an ideal clean energy to solve the expanding energy demand and environmental problems caused by fossil fuels. In order to produce hydrogen, a double-layer porous media burner with shrunk structure was designed to explore the partial oxidation (POX) of methane. And the combustion temperature, species concentration and reforming efficiency were studied under different shrunk parameters and operating conditions. The results indicated that the shrunk structure greatly influenced the flame position and temperature distribution. The flame moved to the downstream section with the decreasing of the inner shrunk diameter and the increasing of the shrunk height. When the diameter of the filled Al2O3 pellets was 8 mm, the hydrogen yield reached the highest value of 43.8%. With the increasing of equivalence ratio, the reforming efficiency increased first and then decreased, and the maximum value of 53.0% was reached at φ = 1.5. However, the reforming efficiency and axial temperature kept increasing when the inlet velocity increased from 10 to 18 cm/s. The corresponding results provided theoretical reference for the control of flame position and species production by the design of shrunk structure in porous media burner.  相似文献

The laminar flame speed of syngas (CO:H2 = 1:1)/air premixed gas in a wide equivalence ratio range (0.6–5) and initial temperature (298–423 K) was studied by Bunsen burner. The results show that the laminar flame speed first increases and then decreases as the equivalence ratio increasing, which is a maximum laminar flame speed at n = 2. The laminar flame speed increases exponentially with the increase of initial temperature. For different equivalent ratios, the initial temperature effects on the laminar flame speed is different. The initial temperature effects for n = 2 (the most violent point of the reaction) is lower than others. It is found that H, O and OH are affected more and more when the equivalence ratio increase. When the equivalence ratio is far from 2, the reaction path changes, and the influence of initial temperature on syngas combustion also changes. The laminar flame speed of syngas is more severely affected by H + O2 = O + OH and CO + OH = CO2 + H than others, which sensitivity coefficient is larger and change more greatly than others when the initial temperature and equivalence ratio change. Therefore, the laminar flame speed of syngas/air premixed gas is affected by the initial temperature and equivalence ratio. A new correlation is proposed to predict the laminar flame speed of syngas (CO:H2 = 1:1)/air premixed gas under the synergistic effect of equivalence ratio and initial temperature (for equivalence ratios of 0.6–5, the initial temperature is 298–423 K).  相似文献

Motivated by the fuel hydrogen applications in porous combustors, as well as hydrogen production in syngas porous devices, this work shows a simplified one-dimensional, steady state heat and mass transfer model for stabilized premixed flames in porous inert media. Single-layer and double-layer porous burner are studied. The model has three conservation equations, describing the heat transfer in the solid and fluid phases and the mass transfer in the reacting flow. The model considers a plug flow and is solved numerically by using the finite volume method. The results are compared with benchmark data, depicting the superadiabatic flames and the heat recirculation process. A parametric analysis of the model reveals the effects of the porous media properties and the Lewis and Peclet numbers on the heat and mass transfer processes. Furthermore, the effects of the flame stand-off parameter in double layer porous burner are also analyzed. The results have considered the values of the dimensionless parameters based on reference data for hydrogen/air and methane/air combustion in porous burners built with SiC and Al2O3.  相似文献

Due to its high hydrogen density and extensive experience base, ammonia (NH3) has been gaining special attention as a potential green energy carrier. This study focuses on premixed ammonia–hydrogen–air flames under standard temperature and pressure conditions using an inert silicon-carbide (SiC) porous block as a practical and effective medium for flame stabilization. Combustion experiments conducted using a lab scale burner resulted in stable combustion and high combustion efficiencies at very high ammonia concentration levels over a wide range of equivalence ratios. Noticeable power output densities have also been achieved. Preliminary results of NOx emission measurements indicate NOx concentrations as low as 35 ppm under rich conditions. The remarkable capability of this specific burner to operate efficiently and cleanly at high ammonia concentration levels, which can easily be achieved by partial cracking of NH3, is believed to be a key accomplishment in the development of ammonia fired power generation systems.  相似文献

The present work focuses on studying experimentally and numerically the oxy‐fuel combustion characteristics inside a porous plate reactor towards the application of oxy‐combustion carbon capture technology. Initially, non‐reactive flow experiments are performed to analyze the permeation rate of oxygen in order to obtain the desired stoichiometric ratios. A numerical model is developed for non‐reactive and reactive flow cases. The model is validated against the presently recorded experimental data for the non‐reacting flow cases, and it is validated against the available literature data for oxy‐fuel combustion for the reacting flow cases. A modified two‐step oxy‐combustion reaction kinetics model for methane is implemented in the present model. Simulations are performed over wide range of operating oxidizer ratios (O2/CO2 ratio), from OR = 0.2 to OR = 0.4, and over wide range of equivalence ratios, from φ = 0.7 to φ = 1.0. The flame length was decreased as a result of the increase of the oxidizer ratio. Effects of CO2 recirculation amount on the oxy‐combustion flame stability are examined. A reduction in combustion temperature and increase in flame fluctuations are encountered while increasing CO2 concentration inside the reactor. At high equivalence ratio, the combustion temperature and flame stability are improved. At low equivalence ratio, the flame length is increased, and the flame was moved towards the reactor center line. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Three-dimensional direct numerical simulations with detailed chemistry were performed to investigate the effect of equivalence ratio on spatial variations of the heat release rate and flame markers of hydrogen/carbon monoxide syngas expanding spherical premixed flames under turbulent conditions at elevated pressures. The flame structures and the heat release rate were analysed and compared between fuel-lean, stoichiometric and fuel-rich centrally ignited spherical flames. The equivalence ratio changes the balance among thermo-diffusive effects, Darrieus–Landau instability and turbulence, leading to different flame dynamics and the heat release rate distribution, despite exhibiting similar cellular and wrinkling flames. The Darrieus–Landau instability is relatively insensitive to the equivalence ratio while the thermo-diffusive process is strongly affected by the equivalence ratio. As the thermo-diffusive effect increases as the equivalence ratio decreases, the fuel-lean flame is more unstable than the fuel-rich flame with the stoichiometric flame in between, under the joint effects of the thermo-diffusive instability and the Darrieus–Landau instability. The local heat release rate and curvature display a positive correlation for the lean flame, no correlation for the stoichiometric flame, and negative correlation for the rich flame. Furthermore, for the fuel-lean flame, the low and high heat release rate values are found in the negative and positive curvature zones, respectively, while for the fuel-rich flame, the opposite trends are found. It is found that heat release rate markers based on species concentrations vary strongly with changing equivalence ratio. The results suggest that the HCO, HO2 concentrations and product of OH and CH2O concentrations show good correlation with the local heat release rate for H2/CO premixed syngas-air stoichiometric flame under turbulent conditions at elevated pressures.  相似文献

Combustion is the primary source for exergy loss in power systems such as combustion engines. To elucidate the exergy loss behaviors in combustion and explore the principle for efficiency improvement, the second-law thermodynamic analysis was conducted to analyze the energy conversion characteristics in laminar premixed flames of methane/hydrogen binary fuels. The sources causing exergy losses in laminar premixed flames included five parts, namely heat conduction, mass diffusion, viscous dissipation, chemical reactions and incomplete combustion, respectively. The calculations were conducted at both atmospheric and elevated pressures, with the equivalence ratio varying from 0.6 to 1.5 and the hydrogen blending ratio increasing from 0% to 70%. The results indicated that the total exergy loss firstly increased and then decreased with increased equivalence ratio, and reached the minimum value at the equivalence ratio of 0.9. This was primarily due to the trade-off relation between the decreased exergy loss from entropy generation and the increased exergy loss from incomplete combustion, as equivalence ratio increased. As the hydrogen blending ratio increased from 0% to 70%, the total exergy loss decreased by 2%. Specifically, the exergy loss from heat conduction decreased, primarily due to the decreased flame thickness. Moreover, the reactions with H2, H and H2O as reactants were inhibited, leading to decreased the exergy loss from chemical reactions. As pressure increased from 1 atm to 5 atm, the total exergy loss decreased by 1%, because the exergy losses induced by heat conduction and chemical reactions decreased as the flame thickness was reduced. The exergy loss from incomplete combustion also decreased, because elevated pressure inhibited dissociations and decreased the mole fractions of incomplete combustion products.  相似文献
