An enhanced MT-RJ type connector was constructed employing a compact two-fiber ferrule in a newly designed housing for high-density optical duplex connection. The ferrule and the connector housing is designed to achieve physical contact (PC). As a result, the connectors we fabricated perform very well and provide ease of operation by means of direct core endface contact between the plugs. This connector is highly effective for use in the duplex connection of advanced optical networks.  相似文献

A small plastic molded single-mode ten-fiber connector has been developed for high-count optical subscriber cables. The connector ferrule alignment mechanism is designed with a sufficient factor of safety to allow rough handling during connection. The ferrules are precisely aligned by alignment pins and guide sleeve. The fabricated connector, which has a cross section of just 4 mm × 6 mm, exhibited an average loss of 0.4 dB and reconnection time of less than 0.5 min. Various optical fiber connectors using a graded-index fiber have been fabricated and good performances have been obtained during field trial tests. The average connection loss of aC-type, plug-in type, andU-link connector has been found to be 0.4, 0.34, and 0.62 dB, respectively. A new field assembly (FA) type connector using a precision made ceramic capillary has also been developed. This FA type connector is fabricated for use with single-mode fibers, and has a connection loss of 0.56 and 0.52 dB at 0.85 and 1.3 μm, respectively. By using coupling experiments between laser diodes and single-mode fibers, a laser module with a coupling loss of 1.8 dB under optimum alignment conditions has been fabricated.  相似文献

In this letter, we propose a mean square error (MSE) strategy to control a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) optical equalizer. We show by simulation that MSE is a suitable criterion to exploit the PLC programmability for realizing an adaptive optical equalizer. When controlled through the MSE criterion, a PLC equalizer for chromatic dispersion compensation performs better than with other control strategies and turns out to be effective even with few component elements.  相似文献

With the advent of very high-bit-rate optical communication systems (40 Gb/s and beyond) and the progressive transformation of the optical layer in a real networking layer, a channel-by-channel adaptive optical equalization will be needed. An adaptive optical equalizer for chromatic dispersion compensation, based on planar lightwave circuit (PLC) technology and controlled by a minimum mean square error (MSE) strategy, is proposed here. It is shown in a rigorous manner how the PLC parameters are to be adjusted and that the control algorithm is effective even with a few stages PLC equalizer, performing better than other nonadaptive control techniques. An analysis of the dynamic behavior of the equalizer shows that, in a realistic time-varying scenario, it can easily adapt to slow channel variations and is able to quickly restore a minimum MSE condition after an abrupt chromatic dispersion variation.  相似文献

We have developed two types of field installable connection techniques. One is mechanical splicing, which is used to connect coated optical fibers without the need for stripping or cleaning procedures. The other is a field assembly connection technique, which employs a new type of field installable connector that makes it possible to realize a physical contact connection with chamfer grinding. Mechanical splicing is achieved by precisely aligning and directly connecting coated fibers with a capillary. The assembled splice is installed with 1.3-μm single-mode fibers that have an 80-μm cladding and a 125-μm coating and they exhibit good optical performance with a low average insertion loss of 0.2 dB. Connection is achieved with our developed field installable connector by using a chamfered fiber endface and the compression force of the buckled fiber. The assembled connectors achieve physical contact with the chamfered fiber endface, which provides good optical performance with a low insertion loss of 0.11 dB.  相似文献

A planar lightwave circuit (PLC) platform for optoelectronic hybrid integration shows potential for achieving 10 Gb/s operation. It uses AuSn bump-type bonding pads on a silica layer to decrease parasitic capacitance, which limited the CR time constant in the optical chip assembly region, and two-layer electrical wiring to reduce parasitic inductance, which caused resonance in the electrical circuit region. An arrayed receiver module fabricated by integrating a two-channel monolithic opto-electronic integrated circuit (OEIC) chip on the PLC platform demonstrated a 3 dB-bandwidth of 8 GHz in both channels, which is equal to the bandwidth of the OEIC chip. This shows the feasibility of using this PLC platform for multichannel 10 Gb/s operation. Furthermore, this PLC platform can combine the versatile optical circuit functions of a PLC, such as an arrayed-waveguide grating wavelength multiplexer, with the high-speed signal processing function of mature electronic IC circuits. Trunk transmission network systems connecting exchange offices were the first transmission systems using optical fiber cables. Subscriber network systems connecting the exchange office with each subscriber including local area networks or CATV network systems are under development at present. Two main techniques are newly required to be developed for making optical fiber mechanical connectors for optical fiber subscriber network system realization. The first is to realize a new connector with a high return loss and a low connecting loss. The second is to cut the joining cost of optical fibers. The newly developed "optical contact connector" realized a high return loss of more than 25 dB and a low connecting loss of 0.15 dB average value. A newly developed "multifiber connector" which can connect many optical fibers at the same time can save time and space for joining fiber cables, and also a "plastic molding technique" can save the cost of the connector. The performance of all these connectors is the same as that of the "optical contact connector." This paper describes the present status of the technique to obtain a high return loss connector, a multifiber connector, and a plastic molded connector for the subscriber network system.  相似文献

This paper investigates the feasibility of implementing an optical coupler in the analog front-end (AFE) circuit of a power line communication (PLC) modem to reduce the common mode (CM) noise coupling onto the power lines. Based on a two-current-probe measurement approach, an equivalent CM circuit model is developed to predict the expected CM current generated by the PLC modem when it is plugged onto the power line network. The model provides insight into the CM noise coupling mechanism from any PLC modem onto the power line network, so that the effectiveness of using an optical coupling technique in reducing the CM current from the power line network can be properly quantified  相似文献

A novel fabrication process using a hot embossing technique has been developed for micromechanical passive alignment of polymer planar lightwave circuit (PLC) devices. With only one step of embossing, single-mode waveguide straight channels and micropedestals for passive aligning are simultaneously defined on a polymer thin film with an accuracy of /spl plusmn/0.5 /spl mu/m. This process reduces the steps for fabricating alignment structures. A fabricated polymer PLC chip and fibers are combined on a v-grooved silicon optical bench (SiOB) in a flip-chip manner. The process provides a coupling loss as low as 0.67 dB per coupling face and a cost-effective packaging solution for various polymer PLC devices.  相似文献

分析了光纤连接器端面几何参数对光纤连接器性能的影响,提出了一种利用正弦相位调制(SPM)干涉仪测量光纤连接器端面几何参数的新方法。计算机模拟计算表明,这种方法能在有噪声干扰情况下高精度测量光纤连接器端面几何参数。  相似文献
