To determine types of fungi in the water and associated with the benthic amphipod Diporeia spp., samples were collected at various depths in Lake Michigan in an area where the Diporeia population was in a severe state of decline. No fungi were found associated with living, freshly-dead, or dried Diporeia cultured separately from Lake Michigan water. When dead Diporeia and other organic substrates (snake skin and hemp seeds) were used to grow fungi in Lake Michigan water, a rich and diverse fungal and water mold community was revealed. A total of 31 species were found, with the most common genera being Achlya, Aphanomyces, Myzocytium, and Pythium. In general, species were homogeneously distributed in the water; that is, few differences were found in species richness between nearshore (10–15 m) and offshore (60–80 m) waters, and between near-surface (1 m) and near-bottom waters (1 m off bottom). Sampling occurred during the unstratified period (April and October) to maximize the number of species collected, which may have contributed to the uniform spatial pattern observed. While conclusions must be placed in context with our methods of detection, we found no evidence that a fungal infestation was associated with Diporeia in this region of the lake.  相似文献

Activated sludge samples from wastewater treatment plants from potato starch and starch derivatives factory and from a municipal sewage treatment plant were analyzed with DNA probes specific for several filamentous bacteria. It was found that Haliscomenobacter hydrossis, Sphaerotilus natans, Thiothrix sp. and Eikelboom Type 021N were common in the activated sludges. Fluorescent in situ Hybridization (FISH) analysis could detect more types of sheathed bacteria and yielded a more accurate quantification of bacteria than conventional microscopy.In a pilot and a full scale wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) clear correlations were found between the SVI and growth of a Sphaerotilus natans and a Thiothrix sp. Addition of chlorine to the bulking sludge resulted in an improved SVI of the sludge but only damaged filamentous cells outside the floc. Nitrification was measured with substrate depletion and FISH analysis. Signal interpretation of FISH analysis was demonstrated both manually and with automated image analysis.  相似文献

An investigation comprising four studies was undertaken to determine possible factors affecting the growth of several different types of filamentous microorganisms present in a bulking industrial wastewater activated sludge. Results from laboratory-scale continuous-flow and full-scale studies suggested that DO concentration and F:M ratio were the likely key factors affecting filamentous growth in the activated sludge. From the results of two laboratory studies isolating the effects of DO concentration and F:M ratio on filamentous growth, favorable growth ranges of DO concentration or F:M ratio were estimated for the following filaments: Microthrix parvicella, Nocardia spp., Nostocoida limicola II, and Types 0041, 1851, and 1863. Most of the bacteria causing filamentous bulking of the activated sludge were found to be filaments typically associated with low F:M, and increasing the F:M ratio appeared to cause N. limicola II to lose its competitive advantage in the activated sludge system. Type 1863, on the other hand, was found to be a low DO filament, as DO concentrations of 0.1 mg O2/l or less appeared to be a necessary condition for its filamentous growth. Though Nocardia was found to be a low F:M filament, its growth also seemed to be affected by DO concentration, as its growth was stimulated by concentrations of 1.0 mg O2/l or greater, with a near linear relationship up to at least 5 mg O2/l.  相似文献

Selected shorelines and offshore shoals in Lakes Erie, Huron and Ontario were surveyed with a high frequency hydroacoustic system to investigate current spatial patterns of nuisance benthic filamentous algal (e.g., Cladophora) cover and stand height. Cladophora reached nuisance levels at all sites in Lakes Erie and Ontario, but not in Lake Huron or Georgian Bay. Despite clear gradients in coastal land cover, near shore water quality gradients were generally weak, and for Lakes Erie and Ontario, measures of near shore water quality were similar to that at offshore shoals. Hierarchical partitioning analysis suggested that while dreissenid mussel abundance appeared to be important in determining the magnitude of Cladophora standing crop, the joint contribution of catchment land cover, near shore water quality (nutrient levels and suspended matter) and dreissenid mussel abundance explained nearly 95% of the total variance in nuisance Cladophora standing crop observed in this study. Although the results from this study are necessarily correlative in nature and definition of causal relationships is not possible, these results provide corroborating evidence from sites across a gradient within and across the lower Great Lakes that is consistent with the operation of the near shore shunt model.  相似文献

Algal carotenoids (n:16) and chlorophylls (n:7) were determined in phytoplankton (n:60), filamentous algae (n:14) and sediments (n:44), collected from two nearshore sites in eastern Lake Erie (Van Buren Point (VBP), 6.5 m; Point Gratiot (PG), 17 m), during summer and fall of 2003, 2004 and 2005. The most prominent biomarkers for diatoms (fucoxanthin), cryptophytes (alloxanthin), chlorophytes (chlorophyll-b) and cyanobacteria (zeaxanthin) revealed temporal variations in phytoplankton community composition, which were correlated to water temperatures: i) seasonal succession, from diatoms with some cryptophytes in June (cool), to an increased percentage of chlorophytes and cyanobacteria in August and September (warm); ii) differences between 2004 (cool; cryptophytes more abundant) and 2005 (warm; chlorophytes more abundant). Filamentous algae (chlorophytes, epiphytic diatoms; some cyanobacteria) varied in condition, according to levels of chl-a, pheopigments, and class biomarkers: high, at VBP (growing; decaying; bont/E suspect); low, at PG (mostly dead). Relative to phytoplankton, sediments were depleted in several biomarkers (chl-a; diadino-, neo- and violaxanthin) but enriched with others, particularly at PG (pheopigments; diatoxanthin; canthaxanthin, echinenone; alloxanthin). Sediment composition was characterized by strong differences between sites (chl-a, chl-b and fucoxanthin nearly 10-fold greater at VBP than PG) and increasing accumulation of biomarkers from year-to-year. A linear log–log function, relating total carotenoids to total chlorophylls (intercept −0.516, slope 1.054, r2 0.96), implied increased biodegradation among specimen types: levels of pigments (pmol/g ww) decreased three orders of magnitude, from phytoplankton, through filamentous algae, to sediments. Deviation from a 1:1 relationship indicated 1.7-fold depletion of carotenoids relative to chlorophylls at mid-range.  相似文献

Zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha (Pallas), proliferation in Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron is associated with increased water clarity and increased light levels on benthic substrata in the littoral zone. We hypothesized that the filtering activities of Dreissena and associated increases in light penetration should affect the structure and function of benthic algae in the bay. Monthly quantitative benthic algal samples were collected from natural substrata by SCUBA in the littoral zone of the bay through the growing seasons of 1991 (initial Dreissena colonization), 1992 and 1993 (post-Dreissena colonization). Algal community structure was examined microscopically and productivity rates were measured using carbon-14 in sealed acrylic chambers in situ. Our data demonstrate that, following Dreissena proliferation, light penetration, benthic algal biomass, chlorophyll concentrations and rates of benthic primary productivity have increased. These changes coincided with a shift from diatom domination of the benthic algal community to a flora dominated by filamentous green algae (Zygnematales). We suggest that these shifts have the potential to affect benthic food webs within littoral zones of the Great Lakes.  相似文献

In situ hybridization (FISH) of two fluorescent oligonucleotide probes, TNI and 21N, directed against 16S rRNA fragments of Thiothrix nivea and type 021N filamentous bacteria, was used to study activated sludge samples of various origins. Comparison of the results obtained by this technique with morphological data enabled us to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the probes, as well as to propose practical classification criteria, in an effort to correlate the identification and ecology of these two microorganisms. We applied the two oligonucleotide probes to the study of Thiothrix sp. in pilot and laboratory batch reactors fed a substrate that was moderately deficient in rapidly available phosphorus. We monitored the growth dynamics of Thiothrix sp. in the pilot reactor, using various hydraulic configurations and after certain perturbations, such as transient substrate overloads. The results provided data which led us to question the importance of the length of time oxygen-deficient sludges spend in clarifier tanks and we discuss the effects of both moderate reductions in oxygen and of very intermittent feedings on the occurrence of Thiothrix sp. growth peaks. The identification and quantification of these filamentous bacteria by size class, made possible by in situ hybridization, are shown to be powerful tools for the early detection and evaluation of episodes of proliferation of filamentous bacteria, revealing them to be much more sensitive indicators than the sludge volume index (SVI).  相似文献

To supply theoretical verification of the function of a selector to control aerobic activated sludge bulking in the wastewater treatment plant for a chemical fiber factory in Taiwan, the filamentous and floc-forming bacteria in the aeration tank in the full-scale plant were examined microscopically and isolated. The kinetic characteristics of filamentous and floc-forming bacteria were also investigated.The predominant filamentous organism was Sphaerotilus natans. In addition to this organism, 21 strains of non-filamentous bacteria were isolated using the plate count method. These included Aeromonas jandaei DNA group 9, Acinetobacter johnsonii/genospecies 7, Bacillus pasteurii and Bacillus sp. (using the Biolog identification system). Nine strains showed the ability to form flocs when cultivated in glucose mineral salts medium.With glucose and acetate as sole substrates, the 4 floc-forming bacteria tested showed different substrate utilization characteristics. The 4 strains could be divided into 3 groups. The first group was the substrate degrading bacteria, the second group was the acid degrading bacteria and the other strains were those that had the highest substrate degradation rates at low substrate concentrations (below 800 mg/l). None of the floc-formers could utilize ethylene glycol, which is the major wastewater component. The kinetic characteristics of filamentous bacterium S. natans (Km = 4.0 mg glucose/l, Vm = 0.43 μl O2/l) and the flocforming bacterium Aeromonas jandaei DNA group 9 (Km = 34.8 mg glucose/l, Vm = 0.59 μl O2/l) provided information for selector design.  相似文献

The extent of activated sludge separation problems associated with excessive growth of filamentous microorganisms has increased recently in the Czech Republic. Most of the activated sludge plants in the country were contacted by mail with a questionnaire, the aim of which was to obtain the basic technological data on the plants and on the nature and intensity of activated sludge separation problems. Selected activated sludge plants were visited at different periods of the year and samples of activated sludge mixed liquor and foam were collected for microscopic examination and kinetic batch tests. It was found that good settling properties were associated more with good quality activated sludge flocs than with the absence of filaments. On the other hand, a very high abundance of filaments always resulted in bulking or foaming. The most common tilamentous microorganisms in activated sludge mixed liquors were M. parvicella, N. limicola and Types 0092,0041 and 0803 while the foams were mostly dominated by M. parvicella, NALOs (GALOs) and N. limicola. Seasonal shifts in filamentous population diversity were also observed. M. parvicella, Type 0092, N. limicola, Type 0803 and Type 0041 were dominant in both conventional and biological nutrient removal activated sludge plants whereas the other Eikelboom's types of filaments dominated mostly in conventional activated sludge plants. The ability of foams to denitrify depended on the dominating tilamentous microorganism and type of substrate.  相似文献

Changes in populations of attached algae growing near the water line along the west shore of Lake Michigan were observed. Emphasis was placed on harbor populations with particular focus on the algae of Milwaukee Harbor during 1979 and 1980. Vertical zonation on rocks and harbor structures is documented and seasonal growth patterns and selected interrelationships are described. Of the three major filamentous algal forms present in this habitat, Bangia appears as a permanent resident, while Ulothrix may be considered a seasonal and opportunistic plant, responding rapdily to changes in water level. Cladophora is a perennial, but plants above a depth of approximately 30 cm tend to grow as annuals due to conditions of ice scour. It is suggested that seasonal and spatial variation in the abundance of particular species is related to the physical growth requirements of the species.  相似文献

The limnology of offshore Lake Erie during periods of extensive (> 70%) ice cover was examined from ship borne sampling efforts in 2007 to 2010, inclusive. Dense and discrete accumulations of the centric filamentous diatom Aulacoseria islandica (> 10 μg Chl-a/L) were located in the isothermal (< 1 °C) water column directly below the ice and only detectable in the ship wake; viable phytoplankton were also observed within ice. Evidence from these surveys supports the notions that winter blooms of diatoms occur annually prior to the onset of ice cover and that the phytoplankton from these blooms are maintained in the surface waters of Lake Erie and reduce silicate concentrations in the lake prior to spring. The mechanisms by which high phytoplankton biomass rise at this time of year requires further investigation, but these winter blooms probably have consequences for summer hypoxia and how the lake responds to climate change.  相似文献

We investigated the diversity of benthic algal communities as well as phytoplankton in Lake Baikal. The structure of benthic algal communities changed in comparison to the period before 2000 due to intense development of filamentous algae, particularly Spirogyra. Percent cover of filamentous algae in different areas of the coastal zone varied from 0 to 100%. The lowest Spirogyra biomass was recorded in the surf and wave-breaking zones, whereas the highest biomass was observed in the area of the bottom less affected by waves. Fragments of Spirogyra thallomes were also recorded in the phytoplankton community of Lake Baikal's southern basin which is a new phenomena not previously recorded in the lake. Hydraulic characteristics of Spirogyra were similar to those of planktonic diatoms. Currents and wave effects on the bottom favored transfer and distribution of Spirogyra from locations with intense development to the coastal area of Lake Baikal. Spirogyra is now found throughout Lake Baikal.  相似文献

Wastewaters from a chemical industry polluted by heavy metal ions represent a hazard for all living organisms. It can mean danger for ecosystems and human health. New methods are sought alternative to traditional chemical and physical processes. Active elimination process of heavy metals ions provided by living cells, their components and extracellular products represents a potential way of separating toxic heavy metals from industrial wastewaters. While the abilities of bacteria to remove metal ions in solution are extensively used, fungi have been recognized as a promising kind of low-cost adsorbents for removal of heavy-metal ions from aqueous waste sources. Yeasts and fungi differ from each other in their constitution and in their abilities to produce variety of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) with different mechanisms of metal interactions. The accumulation of Cd(2+), Cr(6+), Pb(2+), Ni(2+) and Zn(2+) by yeasts and their EPS was screened at twelve different yeast species in microcultivation system Bioscreen C and in the shaking Erlenmayer's flasks. This results were compared with the production of yeast EPS and the composition of yeast cell walls. The EPS production was measured during the yeast growth and cell wall composition was studied during the cultivations in the shaking flasks. At the end of the process extracellular polymers and their chemical composition were isolated and amount of bound heavy metals was characterized. The variable composition and the amount of the EPS were found at various yeast strains. It was influenced by various compositions of growth medium and also by various concentrations of heavy metals. It is evident, that the amount of bound heavy metals was different. The work reviews the possibilities of usage of various yeast EPS and components of cell walls in the elimination processes of heavy metal ions. Further the structure and properties of yeasts cell wall and EPS were discussed. The finding of mechanisms mentioned above is necessary to identify the functional groups entered in the metals elimination processes.  相似文献

Dreissenid (zebra and quagga) mussels are widely recognized as having strong, adverse ecological and economic impacts, e.g., biofouling and loss of water column primary production. We assessed perceptions and values associated with two less often considered ecological outcomes of dreissenid mussel influences on coastal ecosystems along Lake Ontario and the western St. Lawrence River in New York State. One, the generation of water clarity through filtration, we define as an ecosystem service; the other, the production of large amounts of nuisance algae (e.g., Cladophora and Microcystis) is defined as an ecosystem disservice. Surveys of business owners and homeowners quantified their preferences and the formation of values regarding these products of zebra mussel influence. Water clarity increased greatly, particularly in the eastern portion of Lake Ontario, and algal problems increased throughout. Businesses attributed increases and decreases in revenues associated with water clarity and algae; homeowners reported analogous changes in property values. Water clarity was positively associated, and algae negatively associated, with changes in revenues and property values. Threshold responses of costs as functions of filamentous algae were evident. Given the likely continued influx of invasive species due to human activities, further development of the ecosystem service concept should consider potential “goods” and “bads” of invasives and their influence on ecosystem and social system resiliency.  相似文献

A joint EU research project aimed at solving activated sludge bulking in nutrient removal plants was initiated in 1993. The project started with a survey of the size and composition of the filamentous population in nutrient removal plants in Denmark, Germany, Greece and the Netherlands.The results show that biological nutrient removal process conditions indeed favour filamentous microorganisms in their competition with floc forming organisms. An increase in the size of the filamentous population resulted in a deterioration of the settling properties of the biomass, except for plants with Bio-P removal conditions. It is assumed that in the latter case the dense clusters of Bio-P bacteria increase the weight of the flocs, and compensate for the effect of the larger number of filaments.Although exceptions frequently occur, the following sequence in decreasing filamentous organism population size was observed for the process conditions indicated:
  • -completely mixed + simultaneous denitrification;
  • -completely mixed + intermittent aeration/denitrification;
  • -alternating anoxic/oxic process conditions, with an anaerobic tank for biological phosphate removal (Bio-Denipho);
  • -alternating anoxic/oxic process conditions (Bio-Denitro);
  • -predenitrification
The surveys provided little information about the effect of nutrient removal in plants with plug flow aeration basins. Simultaneous precipitation with aluminium salts nearly always resulted in a low number of filaments and a good settling sludge.The size of the filamentous organism population showed a seasonal pattern with a maximum in winter/early spring and a minimum during summer (in Greece: during autumn). This seasonal variation is primarily caused by the effect of the season on the population sizes of M. parvicella, N. limicola and Type 0092.M. parvicella is by far the most important filamentous species in nutrient removal plants. In Denmark only, Type 0041 also frequently dominates the filamentous population, but seldom causes severe bulking. Considering their frequency of occurrence, approx. 10 other filamentous micro-organisms are of minor importance. Growth of some of these species, viz. those which use soluble substrate, can be prevented by the introduction of Bio-P process conditions.M. parvicella and Type 0041 (and probably also Actinomycetes and the Types 1851 and 0092) seem to compete for the same substrates i.e. the influent particulate fraction. Most of the differences in composition of the filamentous microorganism population can be explained by whether or not premixing of influent and recycled sludge is used. In general, premixing for a short period of time followed by anoxic conditions favours Type 0041. M. parvicella seems to proliferate if the particulate fraction is first hydrolysed or if it enters the plant via an oxic zone. It is concluded that bulking in nutrient removal plants is mainly caused by filamentous species requiring the particulate fraction for their growth.  相似文献

While nutrient loading has affected all levels of Lake Winnipeg’s ecology, its greatest influence has likely been on the microbial community. In addition to eutrophication, zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) have recently invaded the ecosystem and threaten food web dynamics. Their filter-feeding predation and association with bacteria, specifically phototrophs, was investigated. A sampling trip to Lake Winnipeg in October 2017, focused on the isolation, enumeration, and identification of aerobic anoxygenic phototrophs in littoral water, sediment, and tissues of mussels. Gimli, Patricia, and Grand beaches, separated by >15 km across the South Basin, had similar bacterial counts when cultivated on rich organic, BG-11, purple non-sulphur, and K2TeO3-supplemented media. Culture-based enumeration on rich organic medium revealed 1.74% of heterotrophs from littoral waters were aerobic anoxygenic phototrophs, and represented 13.98% within sediments. In contrast, 0.48, 1.15, and 0.16% of cultured heterotrophs were aerobic anoxygenic phototrophs within zebra mussel gill, gut, and gonadal tissues, respectively. High-throughput sequencing of bacterial 16S V4 rDNA maintained similar trends in respective bivalve organs, where 0.22, 1.13, and 0.20% of total 16S genes belonged to these phototrophs. Several Sphingomonadaceae isolates were recovered from gut tissues, all with filamentous morphology large enough for predation. Bioaccumulation of metals was also studied in D. polymorpha. All tested associated aerobic anoxygenic phototrophs were capable of resisting the metalloid oxide tellurite. The consistent distribution of aerobic anoxygenic phototrophs within microbial communities across Lake Winnipeg, and their predominance in the gut tissues of zebra mussels suggested bacterial consumption by this invasive species.  相似文献

For the first time, species of the genus Spirogyra, non-typical of the open nearshore waters of Lake Baikal, formed algal mats with Ulothrix zonata, Ulothrix tenerrima, and Ulothrix tenuissima near the village of Listvyanka, Russia. Normally widely distributed in the 0- to 1.5-m depth range, the growth of U. zonata was now evident and dominant (63% of the biomass) in the 2- to 5-m depth range. The overgrowth of the lake bottom by filamentous green algae, changes in distributional boundaries, the emergence and mass development of species of the genus Spirogyra, the presence of the eutrophic diatom indicator Fragilaria capucina var. vaucheriae, elevated abundances of coliform bacteria, and elevated levels of nutrients suggest an early stage of cultural eutrophication in the nearshore of Lake Baikal near Listvyanka, a popular tourist destination. The unusual abundance of Fragilaria associated with the filamentous green algae consisted of long-ribbon colonies of F. capucina var. vaucheriae, a eutrophic species, wound around the filamentous green algae, enhancing the dense algae mats. Historically dominant species, such as Didymosphenia geminata, Tetraspora cylindrica var. bullosa, and Draparnaldioides baicalensis typically observed at deeper depths of Lake Baikal, are now subdominants or minor species in the nearshore along the shoreline near Listvyanka.  相似文献

We investigated the phytoplankton species composition and abundance in two seasons in Mwanza Gulf, Lake Victoria (Tanzania). Phytoplankton was sampled and chlorophyll a content was measured in the dry and wet seasons of 2010–2011 at three stations, from the southern land-inward end of the Gulf towards the open lake. Cyanobacteria, mostly small colonial and filamentous species (e.g., Aphanocapsa spp., Planktolyngbya spp., Merismopedia spp.) dominated at each station (76–95 %), followed by Chlorophyta (5–21 %), whereas the contribution of Bacillariophyceae was small (0–6 %). Phytoplankton densities were generally higher in the rainy season and strongly increased going land-inward from the open lake. Low abundance of N-fixing phytoplankton species suggests that N-fixation was low. The chlorophyll a content in the mouth of the Gulf was low (mean values 4–6 µg/L) compared to values reported previously. Also, chlorophyll a values (means 11–14 µg/L) at land-inward stations of Mwanza Gulf were much lower than those in the northern gulfs (Napoleon Gulf, Murchison Bay and Nyanza Gulf). Between 2002 and 2009 the phytoplankton composition of Mwanza Gulf changed from a community mostly dominated by Bacillariophyceae into a community dominated by Cyanobacteria. In the open water of Lake Victoria, Bacillariophyceae and Cyanobacteria were both abundant. Cyanobacteria dominated both in the three northern gulfs and Mwanza Gulf, but all four showed substantial differences in species and genus compositions. Phytoplankton composition and abundance in Mwanza Gulf differs in many respects from the open water of Lake Victoria and its three northern gulfs.  相似文献

We investigated spatial and temporal patterns in macroscopic benthic primary producer biomass, production, and composition in inner Saginaw Bay in 2009 and 2010. Charophytes and filamentous algae (FA) were relatively abundant, and vascular macrophytes were less common. The probability of benthic primary producer presence increased with the proportion of benthic substrate composed of rock. Most benthic primary producer biomass occurred at depths of 2–4 m, with very little biomass observed beyond 4 m deep. Charophyte and vascular macrophyte abundances displayed consistent patterns related to distance from the mouth of the Saginaw River. FA abundance also displayed such patterns, but they reversed between 2009 and 2010. Macrophytic benthic primary producer communities were generally dominated by charophytes. Three genera of vascular macrophytes, including Myriophyllum, were also observed. Filamentous algal communities were composed of a mixture of FA taxa. Ten FA genera were observed, including the red alga Compsopogon. Dominance of Compsopogon was related to low water clarity and low TP. Biomass-based benthic production estimates indicated that charophytes and FA strongly dominated macroscopic benthic production; production of vascular macrophytes was relatively low. The observed relationships of abundance and environmental conditions suggested regulation of benthic producer biomass by a shifting mosaic of substratum, nutrient, and light availabilities. The diverse nature of the benthic producer community could complicate understanding and management of excess benthic biomass and beach fouling in Saginaw Bay.  相似文献

Escherichia coli and fecal coliform bacteria were isolated from five benthic and four pelagic fish species to determine their role in the fecal contamination of recreational waters. All fish were collected during fall 2006 from Southworth Marsh in the Duluth-Superior Harbor, a public beach that is commonly posted to minimize water contact due to high E. coli levels. Although fecal coliform bacteria were isolated from each fish species, they were only isolated from 66% and 72% of the individual benthic and pelagic fish, respectively. While 42% of the fecal coliforms from benthic fish were E. coli, only 4% of these bacteria from pelagic fish were E. coli. Cluster analysis showed different fish species harbored identical strains of E. coli and some fish contained multiple E. coli strains. The potential source for 65% of the E. coli isolates obtained from fish were identified by using the HFERP DNA fingerprinting method and libraries of E. coli DNA fingerprints from warm-blooded animals and environmental isolates collected in the area. The E. coli strains whose source could be identified were most similar to strains isolated from sediments, Canada geese, mallard ducks, and wastewater. None of the fish E. coli had DNA fingerprints matching those from any water or beach sand isolates. Although our results demonstrate that benthic fish contain E. coli, it may be more appropriate to consider these fish as a vector of E. coli from other sources, rather than a new source of E. coli contamination in aquatic environments.  相似文献
