In this paper, output feedback adaptive control is investigated for a class of nonlinear systems in output-feedback form with unknown control gains. To construct output feedback control, the system is transformed into the form of the NARMA (nonlinear-auto-regressive-moving-average) model, based on which future output prediction is carried out. With employment of the predicted future output, a constructive output feedback adaptive control is given with the discrete Nussbaum gain exploited to overcome the difficulty due to unknown control directions. Under the global Lipschitz condition of the system functions, the boundedness of all the closed-loop signals and asymptotical output tracking are achieved by the proposed control. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This paper addresses the distributed output feedback tracking control problem for multi-agent systems with higher order nonlinear non-strict-feedback dynamics and directed communication graphs. The existing works usually design a distributed consensus controller using all the states of each agent, which are often immeasurable, especially in nonlinear systems. In this paper, based only on the relative output between itself and its neighbours, a distributed adaptive consensus control law is proposed for each agent using the backstepping technique and approximation technique of Fourier series (FS) to solve the output feedback tracking control problem of multi-agent systems. The FS structure is taken not only for tracking the unknown nonlinear dynamics but also the unknown derivatives of virtual controllers in the controller design procedure, which can therefore prevent virtual controllers from containing uncertain terms. The projection algorithm is applied to ensure that the estimated parameters remain in some known bounded sets. Lyapunov stability analysis shows that the proposed control law can guarantee that the output of each agent synchronises to the leader with bounded residual errors and that all the signals in the closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded. Simulation results have verified the performance and feasibility of the proposed distributed adaptive control strategy.

The problem of robust output tracking for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems which do not satisfy the conventional matching condition is considered. The main assumption on the uncertainty is that the triangularity condition is satisfied. Based on backstepping method and input/output linearization approach, we propose a class of non-adaptive state feedback controllers which can guarantee exponential stability of the tracking error for the uncertain nonlinear systems first. Next, adaptive control laws are developed so that no prior knowledge of the bounds on the uncertainties is required. By updating these upper bounds, we design a class of adaptive robust controllers. It is shown that under the proposed adaptive robust control the tracking error of the controlled system converges to zero as time approaches infinity.

In this paper, an adaptive neural output feedback control scheme based on backstepping technique and dynamic surface control (DSC) approach is developed to solve the tracking control problem for a class of nonlinear systems with unmeasurable states. Firstly, a nonlinear state observer is designed to estimate the unmeasurable states. Secondly, in the controller design process, radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) are utilised to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions, and then a novel adaptive neural output feedback tracking control scheme is developed via backstepping technique and DSC approach. It is shown that the proposed controller ensures that all signals of the closed-loop system remain bounded and the tracking error converges to a small neighbourhood around the origin. Finally, two numerical examples and one realistic example are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design approach.

We address the problem of output tracking for a class of nonlinearly parameterized systems with unstabilizable linearization. To achieve practical output tracking globally in the case when both the bound of reference signals and the bound of unknown time-varying parameters are not known a priori, we present a robust adaptive control method that is based on the idea of universal control combined with the new adaptive feedback design method developed recently for controlling uncertain systems with nonlinear parameterization. Continuous adaptive tracking controllers are explicitly constructed in this paper. The proposed adaptive tracking controllers use only the information of a prescribed reference signal but not its derivatives, nor its bound.

In this paper, the integrated kinematic and dynamic trajectory tracking control problem of wheeled mobile robots (WMRs) is addressed. An adaptive robust tracking controller for WMRs is proposed to cope with both parametric and nonparametric uncertainties in the robot model. At first, an adaptive nonlinear control law is designed based on input–output feedback linearization technique to get asymptotically exact cancellation of the parametric uncertainty in the WMR parameters. The designed adaptive feedback linearizing controller is modified by two methods to increase the robustness of the controller: (1) a leakage modification is applied to modify the integral action of the adaptation law and (2) the second modification is an adaptive robust controller, which is included to the linear control law in the outer loop of the adaptive feedback linearizing controller. The adaptive robust controller is designed such that it estimates the unknown constants of an upper bounding function of the uncertainty due to friction, disturbances and unmodeled dynamics. Finally, the proposed controller is developed for a type (2, 0) WMR and simulations are carried out to illustrate the robustness and tracking performance of the controller.

An adaptive control scheme using output feedback for output tracking is developed for systems with unknown actuator failures. Such actuator failures are characterized by some unknown inputs stuck at some unknown fixed values at unknown time instants. An effective output feedback controller structure is proposed for actuator failure compensation. When implemented with true matching parameters, the controller achieves desired plant-model output matching. When implemented with adaptive parameter estimates, the controller achieves asymptotic output tracking. A stable adaptive law is derived for parameter adaptation in the presence of parameter uncertainties. Closed-loop signal boundedness and asymptotic output tracking, despite the uncertainties in actuator failures and plant parameters, are ensured analytically and verified by simulation results

Investigates the adaptive control design for a class of nonlinear systems using Lyapunov's stability theory. The proposed method is developed based on a novel Lyapunov function, which removes the possible controller singularity problem in some of the existing adaptive control schemes using feedback linearization techniques. The resulting closed-loop system is proven to be globally stable, and the output tracking error converges to an adjustable neighborhood of zero

A multivariable MRAC scheme with application to a nonlinear aircraft model
This paper revisits the multivariable model reference adaptive control (MRAC) problem, by studying adaptive state feedback control for output tracking of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. With such a control scheme, the plant-model matching conditions are much less restrictive than those for state tracking, while the controller has a simpler structure than that of an output feedback design. Such a control scheme is useful when the plant-model matching conditions for state tracking cannot be satisfied. A stable adaptive control scheme is developed based on LDS decomposition of the high-frequency gain matrix, which ensures closed-loop stability and asymptotic output tracking. A simulation study of a linearized lateral-directional dynamics model of a realistic nonlinear aircraft system model is conducted to demonstrate the scheme. This linear design based MRAC scheme is subsequently applied to a nonlinear aircraft system, and the results indicate that this linearization-based adaptive scheme can provide acceptable system performance for the nonlinear systems in a neighborhood of an operating point.

In this article, committed to extending the robust integral of the sign of the error (RISE) feedback control to the working condition of output feedback, a novel output feedback controller with a continuously bounded control input which combines the adaptive control and integral robust feedback will be proposed for trajectory tracking of a family of nonlinear systems subject to modeling uncertainties. A novel adaptive state observer (ASO) with disturbance rejection performance is creatively constructed to derive real-time estimation of the unmeasured state signals. Moreover, a projection-type adaption law is integrated to handle parameter uncertainties and an integral robust term is employed to deal with external disturbances. It is shown that asymptotic estimation performance and meanwhile asymptotic tracking result can eventually be derived. Simulation validations are implemented to demonstrate the high tracking performance of the presented controller. Notably, the synthesized control algorithm can be readily extended to the Euler–Lagrange systems. Typically, it can be extended to practical electromechanical equipment such as three-dimensional vector forming robots to improve the real-time forming accuracy.

An adaptive neural network (NN)-based output feedback controller is proposed to deliver a desired tracking performance for a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems, which are represented in non-strict feedback form. The NN backstepping approach is utilized to design the adaptive output feedback controller consisting of: (1) an NN observer to estimate the system states and (2) two NNs to generate the virtual and actual control inputs, respectively. The non-causal problem encountered during the control design is overcome by using a dynamic NN which is constructed through a feedforward NN with a novel weight tuning law. The separation principle is relaxed, persistency of excitation condition (PE) is not needed and certainty equivalence principle is not used. The uniformly ultimate boundedness (UUB) of the closed-loop tracking error, the state estimation errors and the NN weight estimates is demonstrated. Though the proposed work is applicable for second order nonlinear discrete-time systems expressed in non-strict feedback form, the proposed controller design can be easily extendable to an nth order nonlinear discrete-time system.

In this paper, adaptive tracking control is considered for a class of general nonlinear systems using multilayer neural networks (MNNs). Firstly, the existence of an ideal implicit feedback linearization control (IFLC) is established based on implicit function theory. Then, MNNs are introduced to reconstruct this ideal IFLC to approximately realize feedback linearization. The proposed adaptive controller ensures that the system output tracks a given bounded reference signal and the tracking error converges to an -neighborhood of zero with being a small design parameter, while stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is illustrated through an application to composition control in a continuously stirred tank reactor (CSTR) system.

In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy output feedback control approach is developed for a class of SISO nonlinear uncertain systems with unmeasured states and unknown virtual control coefficients. The fuzzy logic systems are used to model the uncertain nonlinear systems. The MT-filters and the state observer are designed to estimate the unmeasured states. Using backstepping design principle and combining the Nussbaum gain functions, an adaptive fuzzy output feedback control scheme is developed. It is proved that the proposed adaptive fuzzy control approach can guarantee all the signals in the closed-loop system are semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded and the tracking error converges to a small neighborhood of origin. A simulation is included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

We investigate the problem of robust adaptive tracking by output feedback for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems. Based on the high‐gain scaling technique and a new adaptive law, a linear‐like output feedback controller is constructed. Only one dynamic gain is designed, which makes the controller easier to implement. Furthermore, by modifying the update law, the adaptive controller is robust to bounded external disturbance and is able to guarantee the convergence of the output tracking error to an arbitrarily small residual set. A numerical example is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Adaptive output feedback tracking control of a nonholonomic mobile robot
An adaptive output feedback tracking controller for nonholonomic mobile robots is proposed to guarantee that the tracking errors are confined to an arbitrarily small ball. The major difficulties are caused by simultaneous existence of nonholonomic constraints, unknown system parameters and a quadratic term of unmeasurable states in the mobile robot dynamic system as well as their couplings. To overcome these difficulties, we propose a new adaptive control scheme including designing a new adaptive state feedback controller and two high-gain observers to estimate the unknown linear and angular velocities respectively. It is shown that the closed loop adaptive system is stable and the tracking errors are guaranteed to be within the pre-specified bounds which can be arbitrarily small. Simulation results also verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
