MoS x /MoS x -Mo multi-layer films consisted of several bilayers and a surface layer on steel substrate were deposited by d.c. magnetron sputtering at different deposition pressures. Each bilayer contained a MoS x layer with 80 nm in thickness and a MoS x -Mo composite layer with 20 nm in thickness. With the increase of deposition pressure, the perpendicular orientation of the basal plane prevailed while the parallel orientation decreased. The tribological properties of the multi-layer films were investigated by using a ball-on-disk tribometer both in vacuum and in humid air. The multi-layer film deposited at 0.24 Pa had a compact, consistent layered structure with high intensity of (002) plane and low S content compared to the others deposited at 0.32 and 0.40 Pa, and showed the lowest friction coefficient and wear rate in humid air.  相似文献

Amorphous carbon nitride coatings (a-CNx) were deposited on SiC disk by ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD). The tribological behavior of a-CNx coating sliding against SiC ball in water was investigated and compared with that of SiC/SiC system at room temperature. The influences of testing conditions on friction coefficient and specific wear rate of both kinds of tribopairs were studied. The worn surfaces on disks were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results indicate that the running-in period of a-CNx/SiC was shorter than that of SiC/SiC system in water. At a sliding velocity of 120 mm/s, the mean steady-state friction coefficients of SiC/SiC (0.096) was higher than that of a-CNx/SiC (0.05), while at 160 mm/s, lower friction coefficient (0.01) was obtained for SiC/SiC in water. With an increment of normal load, the mean steady-state friction coefficients after running-in first decreased, reaching a minimum value, and then increased. For self-mated SiC, the specific wear rate of SiC ball was a little higher than that of SiC disk, while for a-CNx/SiC, the specific wear rate of SiC ball were 10 times smaller than that of a-CNx coating. Furthermore, the specific wear rate of SiC ball sliding against a-CNx coating was reduced by a factor up to 100~1000 in comparison to that against SiC in water. The wear mechanism of SiC/SiC system in water is related to micro-fracture of ceramic and instability of tribochemical reaction layer. Conversely, wear mechanism for a-CNx/SiC is related to formation and transfer of easy-shear friction layer.  相似文献

We report here on the friction behavior of fine- and coarse-grained Ti3SiC2 against steel and Si3N4 balls. Two successive friction regimes have been identified for both grain sizes and both counterparts. First, Type I regime is characterized by a relatively low (0.1–0.15) friction coefficient, and very little wear. Sliding occurs between a tribofilm on the ball and the Ti3SiC2 plane when against steel. Then, a Type II regime often follows, with increased friction coefficients (0.4–0.5) and significant wear. Compacted wear debris seems to act as a third body resulting in abrasion of the ball, even in the case of Si3N4. The transition between the two regimes occurs at different times, depending on various factors such as grain size, type of pin, and normal load applied. Some experiments under vacuum showed that the atmosphere plays also a major role. The reason for this evolution is not fully clear at that time, but its understanding is of major technological importance given the unusual good properties of this material.  相似文献

Tribological behaviors and the relevant mechanism of a highly pure polycrystalline bulk Ti3AlC2 sliding dryly against a low carbon steel disk were investigated. The tribological tests were carried out using a block-on-disk type high-speed friction tester, at the sliding speeds of 20–60 m/s under a normal pressure of 0.8 MPa. The results showed that the friction coefficient is as low as 0.1∼0.14 and the wear rate of Ti3AlC2 is only (2.3–2.5) × 10−6 mm3/Nm in the sliding speed range of 20–60 m/s. Such unusual friction and wear properties were confirmed to be dependant dominantly upon the presence of a frictional oxide film consisting of amorphous Ti, Al, and Fe oxides on the friction surfaces. The oxide film is in a fused state during the sliding friction at a fused temperature of 238–324 °C, so it takes a significant self-lubricating effect.  相似文献

The investigation of the tribological performance of MoS2-based coatings in air of high humidity is critical for the future use of such low-friction and high-wear-resistant coatings in ambient air. Sulfur-deficient MoS x coatings with a basal plane (x = 1.3) and a random (x = 1.8) crystallographic orientation were produced by planar magnetron sputtering. The coefficient of friction and the wear loss of MoSx coatings in comparison with TiN and amorphous TiB2 coatings were investigated in bi-directional sliding fretting tests performed in ambient air of different relative humidity. The wear rate expressed as a volumetric loss per unit of dissipated energy was determined. From these results, the best friction and wear performance was achieved with basal-plane-oriented MoS x coatings tested at a relative humidity in the range of 10-50%. A coefficent of friction of 0.06-0.08 and a wear rate of 4 × 103 m3J-1, at a normal load of 1 N and a fretting frequency of 10 Hz, were recorded for that type of MoS x coatings.  相似文献

Tribological properties of TiO2 coatings synthesized by micro-arc oxidation (MAO) on the surface of TC4 titanium alloys were investigated at the fretting contact against 440C stainless steel in simulated body fluid (SBF). Fretting experiments were carried out by ball-on-flat contact at various loads for 1 h, with an amplitude of 100 μm and a frequency of 5 Hz. Results show that MAO TiO2 coatings presented good tribological properties with lower friction coefficient in SBF. Less wear volume was observed for MAO TiO2 coatings compared with that for TC4 alloy. At lower load, the wear mechanism of MAO TiO2 coatings was dominated to abrasive wear. With an increase of normal load, however, fretting corrosion increased due to chemical reactions with SBF, and therefore, fretting fatigue coexisting with abrasive wear became the predominant mode.  相似文献

In this paper, Fe3O4 based magnetic fluids with different particle concentrations were prepared by the co-precipitation technique. The size of the Fe3O4 nanoparticles is about 13 nm and their shape is spherical. The tribological performances of the fluids with different concentration Fe3O4 nanoparticles were evaluated in a MMW-1A four-ball machine. The results show that the tribological performance of magnetic fluids with proper Fe3O4 nanoparticles can be improved significantly. The maximum nonseized load (P B) has been increased by 38.4% compared with carrier liquid. The wear scar diameter has been reduced from 0.68 mm to 0.53 mm and the relative percentage in friction coefficient has decreased to 31.3%. The optimal concentration of the Fe3O4 nanoparticles in the carrier liquid is about 4 wt.%.  相似文献

ZrO2–Y2O3 ceramic coatings were deposited on AISI 304 stainless steel by both a low-pressure plasma spraying (LPPS) and a laser-assisted plasma hybrid spraying (LPHS). Microstructure and tribological characteristics of ZrO2–Y2O3 coatings were studied using an optical microscope, a scanning electron microscope, and an SRV high-temperature friction and wear tester. The LPHS coatings exhibit distinctly reduced porosity, uniform microstructure, high hardness and highly adhesive bonding, although more microcracks and even vertical macrocracks seem to be caused in the LPHS coatings. The ZrO2 lamellae in the LPHS coatings before and after 800°C wear test consist mainly of the metastable tetragonal (t′) phase of ZrO2 together with small amount of c phase. The t′ phase is very stable when it is exposed to the wear test at elevated temperatures up to 800°C for 1 h. The friction and wear of the LPHS coatings shows a strong dependence on temperature, changing from a low to a high wear regime with the increase of temperature. At low temperatures, friction and wear of the LPHS coatings is improved by laser irradiation because of the reduced connected pores and high hardness in contrary to the LPPS coating. However, at elevated temperatures, the friction and wear of the LPHS coatings is not reduced by laser irradiation. At room temperature, mild scratching and plastic deformation of the LPHS coatings are the main failure mechanism. However, surface fatigue, microcrack propagation, and localized spallation featured by intersplat fracture, crumbling and pulling-out of ZrO2 splats become more dominated at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

A silane coupling reagent (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (abridged as MPTS) was self-assembled on a single-crystal Si substrate to form a two-dimensional organic monolayer (MPTS-SAM). The terminal –SH group in the MPTS-SAM film was in-situ oxidized to –SO3H group to endow the film with good chemisorption ability. Then ZrO2 thin films were deposited on the oxidized MPTS-SAM by way of the enhanced hydrolysis of aqueous zirconium sulfate (Zr(SO4)2·4H2O) in the presence of aqueous HCl at 50 °C, making use of the chemisorption ability of the –SO3H group. The thickness of the ZrO2 films was determined with an ellipsometer, while their morphologies and corresponding friction forces were analyzed by means of atomic force microscopy. The hardness and elastic modulus of the ZrO2 thin films were determined on a Nanoindentation II (MET) instrument. The macro-friction and wear behaviors of the ZrO2 films sliding against an AISI-52100 steel ball were examined on a unidirectional friction and wear tester and the worn surface morphologies observed on a scanning electron microscope (SEM). As the results, the as-deposited ZrO2 thin film at a deposition duration of 100 h is about 100 nm thick, it decreases to 48 nm after annealing at 500 °C and further decreases to 45 nm after heating at 800 °C. The as-deposited ZrO2 film is relatively rougher, with the rms to be about 1.0 nm, while the ZrO2 thin films heated at 500 and 800 °C have surface roughness rms of 0.76 nm and 0.68 nm, respectively. The ZrO2 film annealed at 800 °C has a high hardness to elastic modulus (H/E) ratio (0.062) as compared to the as-deposited ZrO2 film and the film annealed at 500 °C. Both the two annealed ZrO2 films show excellent wear-resistance as they slide against AISI-52100 steel at a normal load below 2.0 N, while the one annealed at 800 °C has better wear-resistance. The differences in the friction and wear behaviors of the as-deposited ZrO2 film, the ZrO2 film annealed at 500 °C and that annealed at 800 °C are attributed to their different micro structures and compositions. Since the ZrO2 films was well adhered to the underlying MPTS-SAM, it might find promising application in the surface-protection of single crystal Si and SiC subject to sliding at small normal load in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS).  相似文献

Al2O3 particles reinforced Cu–Cr–Zr alloy matrix composite was fabricated through a powder metallurgy plus hot extrusion process by using the water atomization Cu–Cr–Zr powder as raw material. The effect of aging treatment on the tribological behavior of the composite was investigated. Experimental results show that tiny coherent precipitated phases were formed in the matrix after proper aging treatment and therefore good combination properties could be obtained. The wear rates of the Al2O3/CuCrZr composite and its matrix alloy were obviously influenced by the aging treatment, wherein the best wear resistance was reached at the aging temperature corresponding to the highest Vickers hardness. The major reason was that the depth of plastic deformation in the subsurface region was dramatically decreased due to the improvement of mechanical properties of the matrix, and therefore adhesion induced surface materials loss could be markedly alleviated. By comparing with the SiC20 vol%/Cu composite, it is indicated that the Al2O3/CuCrZr composite exhibited much better wear resistance as well as higher electrical conductivity.  相似文献

A high-temperature ball-on-flat tribometer was used to investigate dry and oil-lubricated friction and wear of sintered Si3N4 and Si3N4/hexagonal boron nitride (H-BN) fibrous monoliths. The friction coefficients of base Si3N4 flats sliding against Si3N4 balls were in the range of 0.6–0.8 for dry and 0.03–0.15 for lubricated sliding, and the average wear rates of Si3N4 were 10–5 mm3 N–1 m–1 for dry sliding and 10–10–10–8 mm3 N –1m–1 for lubricated sliding. The friction coefficients of Si3N4 balls against composite fibrous monoliths were 0.7 for dry sliding and 0.01–0.08 for lubricated sliding. The average specific wear rates of the pairs were of the same order as those measured for the conventional Si3N4 pairs. However, the fibrous monoliths, in combination with sprayed dry boron nitride, resulted in reduction in the lubricated friction coefficients of the test pairs and significant reduction in their wear rates. The most striking result of this study was that the coefficients of friction of the Si3N4/H-BN fibrous monolith test pair were 70–80 lower than those of either roughened or polished Si3N4 when tests were performed under oil-lubricated sliding conditions over long distances (up to 5000 m). The results indicated that Si3N4/H-BN fibrous monoliths have good wear resistance and can be used to reduce friction under lubricated sliding conditions.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The present work focuses on investigating the wear and friction characteristics of the Atmospheric Plasma Sprayed Cr3C2-NiCr coatings deposited onto the surface of die steel material. The as-sprayed specimens were characterized. The coating porosity, bond strength and microhardness values were evaluated. Wear tests were performed on the high-temperature pin-on-disc tribometer at room temperatures, 400°C and 800°C under two loads as 25N and 50N in the laboratory. The wear mechanisms of all the worn-out samples were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique. The specific wear rates and the coefficient of friction values were analyzed. The developed coating showed better wear resistance than its uncoated counterpart. The coefficient of friction values for coated specimens decreased at elevated temperatures. At room temperatures, the wear mode was observed to be adhesive and further at elevated temperatures of testing, the wear mode was observed to be the combination of oxidative, adhesive and abrasive.  相似文献

Natural biological surfaces and biomaterials have some distinguishing properties for adapting themselves to natural surroundings. The outside shell surfaces of mollusc species often undergo the abrasive wear action from the sand particles in water sand slurry in natural conditions. The two-body abrasive wear behavior of the outside shell surfaces of three mollusc species Lamprotula fibrosa Heude, Rapana venosa Valenciennes and Dosinia anus Philippi was examined. Abrasive material used for tests were quartz sand (96.5 wt.%) with three different size ranges and powdered bentonite (3.5 wt.%). The two-body abrasive wear tests were run on a rotary disc type abrasive wear testing machine. The results showed that the abrasion resistance of the outside shell surfaces of the three mollusc species was higher when the corrugations on the shell surfaces were perpendicular to the sliding direction of the abrasive material than that when the corrugations on the shell surfaces were parallel to the sliding direction of the abrasive material. Basically, the shell of Lamprotula fibrosa Heude possessed the highest abrasion resistance among the three species of shell; the abrasion resistance of the shell of Rapana venosa Valenciennes was the lowest; and the abraded depth of the three species of shell increased with an increased abrasive particle size and relative sliding velocity. MoS2–Cr coatings with different Cr contents have been deposited on high speed steel substrates by closed field unbalanced magnetron (CFUBM) sputtering. The tribological properties of the coatings have been tested against different counterbodies under dry conditions using an oscillating friction and wear tester. The coating microstructures, mechanical properties and wear resistance vary according to the Cr metal-content. MoS2 tribological properties are improved with a Cr metal dopant in the MoS2 matrix. The optimum Cr content varies with different counterbodies. Showing especially good tribological properties were MoS2–Cr8% coating sliding against either AISI 1045 steel or AA 6061 aluminum alloy, and MoS2–Cr5% coating sliding against bronze. Enhanced tribological behavior included low wear depth on coating, low wear width on counterbody, low friction coefficients and long durability.  相似文献

This paper studies experimentally the effects of CO2 laser-treatment on the wear behaviour of plasma-sprayed Al2O3 coatings, in linear contact sliding (dry, abrasive and lubricated) against SAE 4620 steel. Tests were carried out using a block-on-ring friction and wear tester, under different loads at different speeds. The wear mechanism and the changes in adherence, porosity and microstructure by laser treatment were also investigated. Results show a better wear behaviour for both laser-treated ceramic coating and its paired steel under dry and abrasive conditions, compared with the case without laser treatment. The lubricated wear behaviour of the laser-treated ceramic coating, however, is not improved. The changes in microhardness, porosity and adherence caused by the laser treatment are responsible for the change in wear behaviour of the ceramic coating.  相似文献

In the present study, the abrasive wear characteristics of Al2O3/PA1010 composite coatings were tested on the turnplate abrasive wear testing machine. Steel 45 (quenched and low-temperature tempered) was used as a reference material. The experimental results showed that when the Al2O3 particles have been treated with a silane coupling agent (γ-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane), the abrasive wear resistance of Al2O3/PA1010 composite coatings has a good linear relationship with the volume fraction of Al2O3 particles in Al2O3/PA1010 composite coatings and the linear correlation coefficient is 0.979. Under the experimental conditions, the size of Al2O3 particles (40.5-161.0 μm) has little influence on the abrasive wear resistance of Al2O3/PA1010 composite coatings. By treating the surface of Al2O3 particles with the silane coupling agent, the distribution of Al2O3 particles in PA1010 matrix is more homogeneous and the bonding state between Al2O3 particles and PA1010 matrix is better. Therefore, the Al2O3 particles make the Al2O3/PA1010 composite coatings have better abrasive wear resistance than PA1010 coating. The wear resistance of Al2O3/PA1010 composite coatings is about 45% compared with that of steel 45.  相似文献

This paper studies the friction and wear behaviour of two important bearing materials, Thordon XL and LgSn80, in dry and lubricated sliding vs. plasma-sprayed Cr2O3 coatings. As a reference, AISI 1043 steel is also studied under the same conditions. SEM, EDS and surface topography were employed to study the wear mechanisms. The results indicate that the Thordon XL/Cr2O3 coating pair gives the lowest dry friction coefficient (0.16) under a normal load of 45.3 N (pressure 0.453 MPa) at a velocity of 1 m/s. The dry friction coefficient of Thordon XL/Cr2O3 coating increases to 0.38 under a normal load of 88.5 N (pressure 0.885 MPa). The dry friction coefficients of the LgSn80/Cr2O3 coating are in the range of 0.31–0.46. Secondly, both dry wear rate under low normal load (45.3 N) and lubricated wear rate under a load of 680 N for Thordon XL are lower than those of LgSn80 in sliding against plasma-sprayed Cr2O3 coatings at a speed of 1 m/s. However, under a normal load of 88.5 N the dry wear rate of Thordon XL is much higher than that of LgSn80. Thirdly, a high viscosity lubricant (SAE 140) leads to lower wear for Thordon XL and LgSn80 than a low viscosity lubricant (SAE 30). Finally, the dominating wear mechanism for Thordon XL is shear fracture when against the plasma-sprayed Cr2O3 ceramic coating. For LgSn80 against plasma-sprayed Cr2O3 ceramic coating, abrasive wear is the governing failure mechanism.  相似文献

During the last decade, the usage of difficult-to-machine materials such as austenitic stainless steels has increased continuously in various industrial applications. Tools such as blind hole taps, punches, or deep drawing molds are often exposed to severe wear while machining/forming these materials, mainly due to excessive adhesion and material transfer. On combination with abrasive wear due to work-hardened wear debris, tool lifetime in these applications is often limited. In this study, ball-on-disc experiments were carried out with arc-evaporated AlCrN coatings with different Al/(Al + Cr) ratios against Al2O3 and austenitic stainless steel balls in ambient atmosphere. Test temperatures of 25, 500, and 700°C were chosen for the hard Al2O3 balls simulating severe abrasive loads, whereas 25, 150, and 250°C were used for the softer stainless steel material to evaluate the adhesive wear behavior. Characterization of the wear tracks was done by scanning electron microscopy in combination with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and optical profilometry. The best abrasive wear resistance during testing against Al2O3 was observed for the coating with the highest Al content. In the case of the austenitic stainless steel balls, sticking of the ball material to the coating surface was the dominating wear mechanism. The influence of test temperature, chemical composition, and surface roughness was studied in detail.  相似文献

Friction and wear behaviors of hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H) and hydrogen-free amorphous carbon (a-C) films sliding against Si3N4 balls were investigated in different testing environments. The result showed that two films with extreme chemical disparity (one hydrogenated, and the other hydrogen free) showed distinct different friction and wear behaviors, and the friction and wear behaviors of the both films were strongly dependent on the environment. For a-C:H films, much low friction coefficient and wear rate were obtain in dry N2. In the water and/or oxygen containing environments, the friction coefficient and wear rate of a-C:H films were obviously increased. On the contrary, a-C films only provided low friction coefficient and wear rate in the presence of water and/or oxygen in the test chamber. In dry N2, the highest friction coefficient and wear rate were observed for a-C films. By investigating the worn surfaces of the films using XPS, it was proposed that the environment dependence of the friction and wear behaviors of the films was closely related with the friction-induced chemical interactions between the films and water and/or oxygen molecules. The specific roles of hydrogen, water and oxygen molecules and their tribochemical effects on the friction and wear mechanism of the films are discussed.  相似文献

The Cr containing amorphous carbon coatings (Cr/a-C) with varying Cr content were deposited using unbalanced magnetron sputtering. The results revealed that the chromium carbide nano-clusters were formed when the Cr content exceeded 4.9 at%. The critical load increased while the hardness decreased after the Cr element incorporation. Although the low Cr containing Cr/a-C coatings (≤4.9 at%) exhibited similar friction coefficient with a-C coatings, but the initial friction coefficient, running-in distance and wear rate of SUS440C balls all decreased. However, the Cr/a-C coatings with high Cr content (11.98–14.09 at%) would worsen the tribological properties because chromium carbides acted as abrasive wear particles during tribotests.  相似文献
